glyphs.BMP

2003-10-25 Thread rich gregory
For those of you new to The Bat! (newer than me!) did you know you can change the
icons used throughout the program by copying a properly formatted file named
GLYPHS.BMP into the program directory.

A great collection of GLYPHS.BMP files can be found at:
http://batworld.de/glyphs/index.html

Now some questions for those who are not so new to TB!

1) What are the specs for creating that file should others want to create and submit
new GLYPH creations?

2) Once created, where could one upload these new files?

3) Is the webmaster of batworld.de here? I would ask for a link to allow the download
of ALL the glyph files as a ZIP. (Maybe it's is there already but I do not read
German!)

4) (A little off-topic) In what other ways can one personalize TB?

I think he means a description of what each icon is used for. Most are straightforward
just by looking at them, but some are not.

Yes, that's what I mean. Some of the icons are easy to figure out, but
some not. For example, I'd like the upload icon to change colors, say to
red, when messages are waiting to upload. I know which icon starts the
upload, but can I do the color change? A map of what each icon in
glyphs.bmp stands for would really help.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your message

actually request that you not do so on this list because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the top
of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to which
you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to, and then
below the quotation, type your response. If you're responding to more
than one parts of the original, then quote each part separately and
follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that you
may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much respect this.
However, this is the format that most of the active members here prefer
and all members are expected, and are being asked to use the format that
will make most of the active membership here comfortable reading. You'll
likely get a more responsive group when you post using a style that is
comfortable for them to read and understand.

Thank you.
