Thanks for that. Now I know why it happens. I think I need to buy a
new mouse as I have seen random double clicks instead of single clicks in
Windows Explorer recently.

Like you, I find the preview pane in the main window sufficient.

See Help | Help Topics | "Contents" tab | expand "Reading Mail" |
  Folder View.

"The "Message Viewer" window is actually a Folder View window
and (by default) hides a list of messages stored in the
folder that contain the message you are viewing."

I rarely have a use for it, as I read most messages in the preview
  pane in the main window.

But why does that new window even open at all?

It happens for me as well (previously version 7.3.1 but also with
7.3.2). Windows 7 Ultimate is my operating system.

I have two monitors.

I see the main list and the current message displayed below as normal
on monitor 1, but clicking on any message in that list opens a new
window on monitor 2 that looks the same, but now with that clicked-on message
shown below.

Strangely, clicking on another message in the list on monitor 2 does NOT open
yet another new
window, but just displays that message below the list as expected.

In the new window, you could try:-

View | Show message list | Hide

mail messages open up as new instance of application

2016-09-14 Thread Achdut18
Hi,

I don't know how to properly describe this, but when I open up a message, a new
window of The Bat opens up (in addition to the existing window) with the
message appearing within the window below the message list taps. This just
started this morning when I turned on the computer, after I opened up the
application. How can I restore the configuration to what it had been such that
the message opens up by itself? When the application is opened up, initially,
individual message text does not appear below the message tabs. That is,
message auto-view is not turned on. However, when a message is opened, it
appears as if message auto view is "on" in the new window; however, the
"Workspace," "options," and "help" toolbar headings do not appear, so it is not
as if I could just "turn off" message auto view in the new window.
