The screenshots don't help non German speakers much :) Could you
translate, please - especially the error message under INSTALLATION
DESTINATION on the hub in the second screenshot? Thanks.

Also, there *is* a known bug in 26 and Rawhide currently where the
INSTALLATION DESTINATION spoke sometimes shows an error condition for
no real reason, and just going through it again will sort things out.
openQA runs into it every so often, I haven't yet been able to figure
out what the trigger is.

Re: Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-26_Beta-1.3.iso doesn't boot from usb stick

2017-05-31 Thread Joerg Lechner

 Hi Joachim,
did now the full installation chain in legacy mode (mediawriter - iso - F26
Beta 1.3 build) all worked fine.
If You think it's the usb stick, test with F3. If I get problems with one of my
usb sticks, I make a new partition table on the stick with gparted, if gparted
can not delete a fedora partition, I try a new Fedora install on this stick and
interrupt this process, before the new data are written, by doing this
afterwards gparted always "repaired" an usb stick which had only a SW
corruption and no hardware defect.
Kind regards Joerg

This is before media check runs.

So your failure is happening at the 2nd step, you're still in the
bootloader. This is almost certainly a USB stick problem. I'd just
write the image again and maybe it'll fix itself as a transient
failure. If not, the try another stick.

Re: Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-26_Beta-1.3.iso doesn't boot from usb stick

2017-05-31 Thread Joerg Lechner
Hi Joachim,
I wanted to prepare a bootable iso, when my laptop runs in legacy mode, to see
if there is a different behaviour of the iso on usb stick prepared on a system
in uefi mode versus prepared on a system running in legacy mode, but currently
a have no Fedora running in legacy mode, therefore I can currently not test
this behaviour.
I booted successfully F26 Beta 1.3 from usb stick with the laptop running in
legacy mode (iso prepared with F24 in EFI Mode with mediawriter, x86_64, 4.0.7,
fc24), I could install F26 mediawriter on this iso, but so far I can not read
the F26 Beta 1.3 located on an other partition of the same stick, to make an
installation of F26 - today lack of knowledge - I will solve this (mounting 2nd
partition with the F26 file on it to get access with mediawriter to this file)
possibly tomorrow.
What I have seen in running the F26 beta 1.3 iso in legacy mode, is after
giving access to WIFI and doing one, two, or three other small jobs
successfully, the system is blocked and I have to reboot and start again, in my
feeling it's not blocked because of lack on memory.
Kind regards Joerg

Hi Joerg,

I wrote the iso with mediawriter-4.1.0-1.fc25.x86_64 in F25 onto the USB
stick, but if booted, it hangs up during "loading initrd.img".

What do you mean by "I could not prepare a F26 iso running in Legacy mode"?

So, I have no explanation why the boot fails. Perhaps an USB problem?
No problems if I write the iso with K3b to a DVD. This DVD boots
completely without failure and without hanging up.

Thank you for all your replies.

A 1.4 is in fact happening right now for unrelated reasons - let's hope

0.3.45-1 doesnt include a password dialog (no indication you should
enter the password) and it is not suppressed (visible in plain text)

which doesn't really sound shippable, so if that's the case I think we
should probably focus on 1.4 when it arrives. It's composing now.

I think ultimately we need a way to get these out of lockstep with the
main release. We should be able to build and publish Spins/Labs on
their own cycles (ideally without human intervention required from
rel-eng).

How much use do you see of the Astronomy Spin as bootable media or its
own install? For some, this really makes sense (the desktops, the
security lab) but it seems like maybe Astronomy might be better as a
curated software set in GNOME Software?

We have tested 1438046
with our ARM devices and it seems to work even with Beta 1.3. In that case
it would be a viable candidate. Please help test, thanks.

If the media check passed, there should be nothing wrong with the flash
drive, nor with the data written to it. There could be either a problem
with your laptop's settings (EFI security) or there's something wrong
with

the image itself.

My rather old fashioned desktop PC (no laptop) boots only by BIOS and
has no EFI feature.

I can't imagine that something is wrong with the image, because it boots
properly if it's written to DVD!

Joachim

USB bootup is different from DVD bootup. The Fedora images are in a hybrid
format that allows both of them. It is however possible the configuration
is broken for the particular image you tested or that your computer cannot
handle it. I don't possess enough knowledge about this unfortunately, so
hopefully somebody who does will chime in.

1. The mediacheck passed after writing the image to the usb stick.
2. Booting the usb stick first presents, as expected, a menu for
selection of some F26 variants or memory test.

If selecting the memory test, it will run properly, but not F26.

Hey Soumya,

First of all, Welcome and thanks for showing your interest in Fedora QA.You
need to start off by creating an FAS account , if you already have one then
just send a request for sponsorship to the qa group.

You can start off by testing updates in [http://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/] for
Fedora 24 , Fedora 25 and Fedora 26. Update testing is where a tester tests a
package and gives out a +1 Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora Releases
and tags viz "pending" & "testing" . You can read much about update testing
here [1]. You can also, use fedora-easy-karma for giving out feedbacks.

you can start with Release Validation testing. In Release Validation all you
need to do is to check the nightly/TC/RC against certain criteria. For example,
let's take the latest alpha (Fedora 26 Branched 20170513), you can run test
cases which are mentioned [2] and submit your results in the test matrix.

Note that each of the test cases[3] will have "How to test" section which will
have the steps (to be executed sequentially) and if the results match with the
expected results you can mark it as pass by editing the wiki page
{{result|PASS|}} . Always make sure to check for "Associated
release criterion" which can be found on the top of test case page , if your
test case fails you can mark it fail by editing the wiki page
{{result|FAIL|}} and file a bug at RHBZ [4] under Fedora.

You can always find the ‘current’ validation pages using these addresses:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Installation_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Base_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Server_Test
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Cloud_Test

For Automation, you can start looking at Taskotron
[https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Taskotron]
and Open QA[https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/OpenQA].

PS : There in an onboarding call this saturday from 1400-1500 UTC , you can

Introduction

2017-05-31 Thread Soumya Maharana
Hello Everyone

Hope you all are doing great today.

First things first. My Introduction.

My name is Soumya Maharana and I am from India. I have over 5 years of
experience as a quality analyst. Currently I'm working with an IT company
involved in providing quality services to its customers.

My main aim of joining an open source community like Fedora is to contribute,

I have absolutely zero experience in Linux. So I guess, I have already taken
