the sample messages you posted to the list.

I installed a new hard drive in addition to the others and installed a
new copy of F22b from the same USB flash drive. I rsync'd .thunderbird
from a copy on the NSF server as I usually do and the iPhone text
messages are displayed without any problem. I don't know what is causing
the problem with the F-22 on the other drive. However I the other drive
will be cleared and used for something else. Hopefully the problem was
cured with a re-install!

What can I say, sorry for the noise?

I appreciate your effort. So it seems certain I have a unique problem, I
am at a loss to explain why. I've ordered another WD Black drive to
replace the failed drive and will do another installation on that in a
few days. I can't imagine what has caused the problem, I always do
things about the same way and stuff mostly works without a hitch ...

FWIW, RFC 1521 defines the MIME Format of Internet Message Bodies. Within that
RFC is the definition for The Multipart/mixed (primary) subtype. In cursory
look at the RFC I could find no instance where type= is defined as being used.

 XFCE Mime editor only shows:
  application/smil+xmldefaultvideo

 Can that be a problem?

I tried selecting Thunderbird instead of Video but it made no difference.

Actually, I doubt it will make any difference for 2 reason.

1. It displays fine for me and that is pretty much the same MIME definitions I
have.

2. And more importantly, the second line defines the entire message as
multipart/mixed, which if I recall my MIME standards correctly (don't have time
to check it now) the type is irrelevant since it is actually defined
individually for each part.

FWIW a quick check of other multipart messages in my inbox show no type defined
in that segment of MIME headers.

So, the part of the message which contains the text is defined as you'd expect
text/plain;

I also don't find doing forwards of much use in diagnosing a problem since you
have to know how the UA is going to mangle the message. There used to be a
bounce plugin for T-Bird which re-transmitted the message without alteration.

FWIW, I copied the text of the message from the above and placed it in a file
call test.eml.

I used T-Bird 31.6.0 on F21 and successfully opened the saved message.

I then used T-Bird 31.5.0 which I installed on my F22-Beta system via dnf
install thunderbird. It too opened the message correctly.

So, I'm not convinced it is a T-Bird issue. Sounds more like something strange
about your system.

 another computer.

Thank you for looking at my problem,

I think you should change the wording to say the text won't display in F22 for
me. :-) :-) As I don't see any issue, maybe others will try what I did and
confirm that it works or doesn't work for them.

BTW, if I recall correctly you have some vision issues. Have you tried to
highlight the area where the text should be appearing just to check if there
isn't a contrast issue.

The only odd thing that I noticed you said you're running T-Bird 31.6.0 on

In the course of troubleshooting the problem I updated both computers to
31.6.0, F21 and F22. Initially it did not work on F22 which is what got
me off on this tangent. It doesn't matter what version of t-bird, the
text wont display in F22, I have thousands saved, what displayed in this
computer with every Fedora for the last few years will not display in F22b.

It looks like a problem to me. If I am right others will complain
eventually and it will get fixed. In the mean time I can read it from
the source or use another computer.

Thank you for looking at my problem,

Bob

The failed drive was a WD Black, WD6401AALS, Date: 21 Oct 2010.

It was a refurbished bargain, as best I can remember, from Newegg and
I used it for a couple of years.

So copy the ~/.thunderbird from it, and run Tbird with it.
 Check with both, v38 beta2 and 31.6.0-1.

Neither thunderbird version works right in F22b.

31.6.0 works in the F21 computer but does not work in this F22 box. It seems
improbable that moving another copy of the same thing is going to work an

Can't display text messaging -

2015-04-25 Thread Bob Goodwin ~ Zuni, Virginia, USA

This system updated today, Thunderbird 35.5.0 can not display text
messages sent from an iPhone.

Message source shows the following:

Date: Fri, 24 Apr 2015 22:22:11 +
MIME-Version:1.0
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
 type=application/smil;
 boundary=__CONTENT_64564_PART_BOUNDARY__33243242__

My BCC from this F-22b computer displays as usual. Another computer
running Fedora-21 and Thunderbird 31.6.0 displays the messages.

I use this to exchange a number of messages via VZWPIX.COM daily. I can
get by looking at the message source but would like to fix it. Trying
various settings in MIME editor hasn't helped, it defaults to
application/smil+xmlDefaultvideo

It looks like I should try replacing Thunderbird with an earlier version ...

Any suggestion appreciated,

Bob
