Self-introduction: Jeff BuCher

2024-03-14 Thread Jeffrey Bucher

Hey Y'all,

my name is Jeff BuCher (jeffiscow) I'm 32 from NE Ohio USA. I've always
had an interest in Linux and wanted to go to college for something in
the tech field. Well, I ended up becoming a machinist but after burn out
and being laid off in the past year. I decided to go back to school for
software engineering. I actually start April 1st.

I just joined the Fedora community and so far from what I've seen
everyone's great! I feel QA would be a great start in my journey. Seems
like a space I can learn and get my bearings.

I've used Linux and other FOSS off and on for years but in the past year
or so I've started a deep dive. I'm also in the process of trying to
switch to as much FOSS things as I can. I'm no expert but I feel I have
a solid foundation on Linux mostly Fedora. (Probability because Fedora
has great documentation and has been working well with any old hardware
I put it on!)

I've been dabbling in rust a bit and I'm a pretty big fan of CLI apps
and using the terminal in general. I just think its neat and some people
do pretty cool things with it. I've also been messing around with podman
and OCI containers and I'm a big fan of trying out new features in
different software.

I'm excited to get started and meet yall! If you have any questions just
ask.

Self-introduction: Osama Albahrani

2023-10-25 Thread Osama Albahrani via test
Hello everyone,

I am in my last year as a Computer Science undergraduate student as North
Carolina State University and the Treasurer of the Linux Users' Group at NC
State. And I am from Saudi Arabia.

I have some experience with the command line through a couple classes I've
taken and using different Linux distros on my free time through dual booting
and using containers. At school, I liked learning C and operating systems, and
developed an interest in how operating systems work and how they compare to one
another. I am also interested performance and optimizations and how software
can better communicate with the hardware. I look forward to learning more about
package management and becoming a maintainer as well as learning how to write
kernel code in the near future.

So, I would like to be more involved and help with Fedora testing! I wanted to
mark that I was able to successfully perform

2022-08-29 Thread Tommy Nguyen
Reposting this as I sent this to the wrong list by accident.

Hello all,

I've been using Fedora for many years and recently became interested
in QA testing. My interest developed when I wanted to test programs
before they reached stable so that I could ensure that I wouldn't be
surprised by an update. But I find the QA process to be kind of fun
and useful.

My previous experience includes maintaining a website (see footer) and
I have a few COPR packages as well.

I'm not really interested in joining currently as I probably will not
be able to commit, but I'd like to keep testing, filing bug reports and
be useful in some way.

Thanks.

Hello there,
I just realized I made a huge spelling mistake when I wanted to say
"distributions". Instead, I've wrote "disturbutions". I really am sorry for
that spelling mistake that mail might sound like that was a hate mail to Fedora
and Linux community. I have my all respect to whose who make their best at open
source communities and again sorry from my deep of my heart.

Self-introduction: Liu Tzu hsi (gakmots)

2022-03-28 Thread GAKMOTS GAKMOTS
  Hello everyone!

My name is Tzu hsi Liu, a student from mainland China, and my FAS account is
GAKMOTS. Due to the recent pandemic, I have had more time to engage in social
activities (ironically, this is actually forced).

I have perused the QA wiki and decided to join it. I've been using Fedora for
over a year before and did find some bugs (in Rawhide, as someone who likes new
stuff), so I decided to join the QA group and report bugs. As the general
manager (the direct translation is Bar-owner) of Fedora Baidu Tieba (something
like Discord), I may also report some errors found by other Chinese users. They
report errors on Chinese social platforms, but do not have FAS accounts, or are
reluctant to speak here because of language differences.

After a few searches, it seems that the process on the wiki is not entirely
correct, as now I can't actively apply to join a group, so I'm sending this
self-introduction directly here and hoping to join the discussion.

I actually had another account before, but due to some security issues and
other personal circumstances, I gave up on it almost immediately after signing
up, and I now forget its exact account name.

If anyone sees it please let me know how to proceed next and of course if a
sponsor sees it, I hope you will approve my request and add me to the QA group.

Since I am not a native English speaker, I hope you will forgive me for some
strange or inappropriate expressions.

Self Introduction: Ian Laurie

2021-11-22 Thread Ian Laurie

Hello everyone,

I'm an embedded systems developer by day, mostly designing embedded h/w,
and depending on workloads sometimes the s/w that runs on top.

At 63 I've been around a while. My first contact with Linux was Red Hat
5.1 Manhattan and I ran a RHEL 3 taroon DNS/Mail/Web server for a number
of years back in the day, but none of this makes me an expert, more of
an advanced noob who can read the docs.

I do run a couple of Debian VMs (Testing and Stable) to prevent me from
becoming too tunnel visioned, but my day-to-day is in the RH ecosystem
(Fedora/Stream/RHEL).

I'm keen to get more involved with Fedora QA group as I already do
testing (typically I update from updates-testing so I do sometimes hit
problems). As a side issue I'm interested in EPEL as well. Some folks
here may know me already from BZ or Bohdi.

On FAS and IRC I'm nixuser.

Good. What is your FAS username?
Since the introduction of the new account system there is no more the option to
ask for sponsorship directly in that system, but at the moment, asking here is
the way to go. (Yes, documentation should be updated).

Freenode is no more the Fedora's IRC platform. You should use libera.chat
If you spot freenode mentioned in some document, please report it.

Good. What is your FAS username?
Since the introduction of the new account system there is no more the option to
ask for sponsorship directly in that system, but at the moment, asking here is
the way to go. (Yes, documentation should be updated).

Hello Ahmed, and welcome.

This list will get updates on different testing related activities.
Subscribing the test-announce mailing list [0] could be useful as well.

As you may know, we are near to the Fedora Linux 35 final release.
Running release validation tests [1] [2] can be still useful.

You can start to test updates in Bodhi [3] for Fedora 33 and Fedora 34
(and Fedora 35).
Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1
Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [4]. You can also use the RPM package fedora-easy-
karma for giving out feedbacks from the command line for the installed
packages (enable the updates-testing repository!).

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [5], you can catch
us mostly at #fedora-qa on libera.chat IRC, Matrix or Telegram.

This is our Docs page [5].

Do you already have a FAS account?

Self-introduction - Ahmed Almeleh

2021-10-23 Thread Ahmed Almeleh
Hello team,

My name is Ahmed Almeleh, I am 20 years old and live in London, UK.

I am really interested in helping with Fedora's Quality Assurance team. I
have a BTEC Level 3 in Computing from Nescot College at Distinction
Distinction Merit (DDM) grade. I am currently studying for my HND in
Computing at Nescot whilst also teaching Information Technology online
through Superprof. I love virtualizing linux distros such as Fedora,
Oracle Linux, POP OS and Ubuntu. I started using Linux with Ubuntu 16.04
LTS on the 25th October 2016 when I was only 15 years old. I loved updating
packages, backing up and testing the distro out. My first contact with
Fedora was Fedora 28. I really enjoy using DNF and really want to be a
System Administrator or Web Developer. I am fluent in Html, CSS and
JavaScript. I also am currently doing an assignment for college that
involves testing how data can be secured when working remotely and how to
monitor employees who are working remotely.

Feel free to contact me

Yours Sincerely
Ahmed Almeleh

I am curious guy, so I did some search... Look like TheEvilSkeleton is
good writer and he/she already have experience a lot with flatplak.

Welcome to Fedora QA, take look on wiki [1]. Do you have FAS? go and get

Re: Self-introduction: TheEvilSkeleton

2021-03-28 Thread TheEvilSkeleton

Hi,

Leaving aside the question of using a real name...
It is much easier to take people seriously if they have a more
sensible,

even if boring, name. The names you suggested might be fine in your
existing situation, but imply (probably incorrectly) a lack of
maturity,
and some people would also find them offensive (though I'm sure that
is

not your intention).

Sorry for those that find my username offensive, and sorry that the
names are a bit immature; no one pointed it out to me me before so I
didn't notice, so I appreciate the feedback. May I ask which name
specifically is the one that would be considered as offensive?

As for my real name, I prefer not to share it online currently. I don't
feel "strong" enough to do so. However, I am planning to upload my CV
on my website someday, and until then, I will use my real name. I hope
it's okay, but if it's required to provide the name, then I will do so.

Hi and welcome! You may also want to take a look at the Fedora Docs
team,

and perhaps Fedora Magazine.

Will do. Thank you.

This is so true. I think for programmers, it isn't as much fun to
write documentation. And there are always more bugs to fix, and code
to

write, than programmer hours, so it is human nature to let the
documentation slide. And, open source changes so rapidly that
documentation goes out of date quickly.
May your successes be legion. :-)

Agreed, and thank you.

I can't speak for the original poster, but for my part I consider it a
means of thwarting the ubiquitous tracking on the web. Especially by

Self-introduction: TheEvilSkeleton

2021-03-27 Thread TheEvilSkeleton

Hello everyone!

My alias is TheEvilSkeleton, but you can also call me Tesk,
TheEvilSkely, Skelly, Proprietary Chrome-chan or anything close to it.

I'm really excited to be part of QA! I first tried GNU/Linux 3 years
ago, from Ubuntu to Manjaro, Arch, Gentoo, Pop!_OS, etc. and finally
Fedora Silverblue, and I started using it as my daily OS since then.

Personally, I don't think I have much experience with Linux, since I
have been using it for around three years. I do think that I have more
knowledge in such topic than an average Linux user, but not as much as
say, a system administrator. I try my best to learn as much as I can so
I can contribute back what I've learned. I mostly contribute to
documentation, since it's one of the places where free and open source
software (FOSS) falls behind, but also because it's where I am very
good at. I also experiment; I play around a lot with distributions,
containers, VMs and more, hence me trying out many Linux distributions
in the past. I often break stuff because, well, I play around things a
lot and I'm very experimental.

I also have some knowledge with Flatpak. I maintain 6 Flatpak packages
currently. I am currently writing an introduction to Flatpak for those
that have little knowledge in Flatpak and want to learn its technical
side. I've been working for around a month, and I've spent plenty of
days for research, so I hope I'm going to give a very accurate and
user-friendly introduction to beginners. With that knowledge, I'm going
to take advantage of it to contribute to Flatpak's documentation.

On a more personal note, I'm a 19 year old "student". I'm quoting
"student", since I stopped attending to classes because I couldn't
concentrate anymore due to stress and heavy pressure from college
because of COVID. Instead of doing nothing during the time, I decided
to join QA to contribute more to FOSS and collaborating with people
around the world, and be part of the Year of the Linux Desktop™. I'm
a male, but you are free to use the pronoun you desire.

Thank you so much for accepting me in the project! I'm really excited
for this. Fedora is very open for contributions and is transparent,
which is the type of project I love.

If you want to contact me:
My nick is TheEvilSkeleton at irc.freenode.chat ;My Matrix user is
theevilskeleton:matrix.org .

Have a nice day everyone, and thank you again for accepting me!

Self-Introduction: Brady Pratt

2021-03-16 Thread Brady Pratt
Hi!

My name is Brady Pratt, I'm newly working on a QE team within Red Hat and
want to
get more involved with the Fedora community. I've been running Linux full
time
for around 5 years now, my experience is mostly within the Arch ecosystem
so I
am excited to branch out.

I enjoy working on tooling and triaging issues so I'm really interested in
getting involved there as well as learning more around testing updates and
new
releases; pretty much any opportunity I can find to begin helping out is of
interest. I have a lot to learn and many dumb questions to ask so please be
patient with me. I'm looking forward to finding opportunities to contribute.

Thank you for your time,
Brady

Hello and welcome. I just sponsored you in the QA FAS group.

This list will get updates on different testing related activities.
Subscribing the test-announce mailing list [0] could be useful as well.

Many Test Days are coming. Stay tuned.
Fedora test days are events where we will test some novelties before
they will be released. You are welcome to join.

You can start to test updates in Bodhi [1] for Fedora 32 and Fedora 33.
Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1
Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [2]. You can also use the RPM package fedora-easy-
karma for giving out feedbacks from the command line for the installed
packages (enable the updates-testing repository!).

Running release validation tests [3] [4] on F34 could be useful, since
we are near to the Beta release.

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [5], you can catch
us mostly at #fedora-qa on freenode IRC, Matrix or Telegram.

Self-Introduction: Patrick Lang

2021-03-02 Thread Patrick Lang
Hi All,

I just wanted to drop a quick note and introduce myself. I have been using
Linux for various things since my first install of RedHat 4.2 on a Cyrix 486.

Lately I've been testing and filing bugs on Pipewire, using rawhide at first
and now F34. I'm excited to see all the progress that's been made so far and
the push to use it as default.

I'd like to join the QA groups in FAS so I can start some discussions and
improve some of the test cases to cover concurrent use of alsa+pulse, or
pulse+jack APIs. This area looks promising but isn't quite ready yet. I'm
filing bugs on the upstream project (Ardour Crashes if Firefox plays audio to
the same device (#803) · Issues · PipeWire / pipewire ·
GitLab) directly
since Wim is actively updating the RPMs after he commits fixes.

Cheers,
Patrick

Self-Introduction: Ben Klepzig

2021-01-11 Thread Ben Klepzig
Hello everyone,

My name is Ben Klepzig. I'm a recent physics graduate, and I use Fedora
mainly for data analysis, programming and computational physics with
Python and C/C++. I also use LaTeX to write papers, Sage to solve
general problems, and a variety of other kinds of software in Fedora's
repositories.

While I have no formal training in software development, I hope to
contribute back to Fedora after having used it for several years. I
have a spare computer of which I have installed rawhide on, so I can do
testing on bare-metal without it having any impact on my work-flow, if
that is relevant.

Assuming I am accepted, I look forward to working with you all and
helping Fedora.

Respectfully,

Benjamin Klepzig

This is an excellent approach, imho.

Here below you can find some information.

As you may know, the last week was devoted to testing the Kernel 5.10
[0]. However, you are still in time and you are always welcome to
perform some test.

This list will get updates on different testing related activities and
updates from time to time.

You can start to test updates in [http://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/] for
Fedora 32 and Fedora 33.
Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1
Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [1]. You can also use the RPM package fedora-easy-
karma for giving out feedbacks from the command line for the installed
packages (enable the updates-testing repository!).

Running release validation tests [2] [3] on Rawhide could be also
useful.

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [4], you can catch
us mostly at #fedora-qa on freenode IRC or Telegram.

If you have any question, please ask!

2021-01-10 Thread Rick Pohly

Hello everyone!

My name is Rick and I'm excited to join this team and contribute in any
way I can. I've been a devout Linux user for three years now, and have
been focusing on RHEL/Fedora specifically since August 2020. I'm
currently studying to pass my RHCSA exam and have been looking forward
to getting involved in this great community for some time now.

My goal is to one day find work as a system administrator, so the idea
of getting involved with a great distribution like Fedora and
contributing where I can will, I think, help accelerate me toward that
goal while also helping me to give back and be a part of this amazing
open source movement.

Thank you for allowing me to contribute. Happy to be here!

2021-01-04 Thread Emmanuel Rousseau
Hello everybody,

My name is Emmanuel Rousseau. I'm a 47 year-old french-speaking man living in
Belgium. My first contact with linux was more than 20 years ago at university
when I was a PhD student in biomedical science. At that time, I used linux on
Debian or Red Hat distros mainly for data analysis and report writing using R
and Latex. I use linux since that time, and Fedora has become my favorite
distribution for several years now, running in all computers of the family.

As you might guess from this short CV, I've no technical skill on software
engineering, but I'm very curious and want to learn new things every day. Since
I'm grateful to the linux community in general and to the Fedora one in
particular for provinding me such great software, I'd like to contribute, doing
what I can do, like participating in test days or in other QA activities.

With the hope of being accepted into your group, I wish you all the best for
this new year!

Hey Eric!

We are currently involved in the last leg of F33 testing which can be found
here [0].
Validating releases is fairly simple, just download the fedora 1.2 final RC
in this case, install it on
VM or bare-metal and perform test cases listed in the matrices.

The other way to get started easily is contributing to Fedora Test
Days/Weeks, these are specific timeframes
when we ask the community to test a newly landed feature which is going to
stabilize post test days for all releases.
Starting Monday 26th, we have a Kernel 5.9 Test week where we will focus
on testing regression of Kernel 5.9 as it is
rebased for Fedora stable releases. Deatils can be found [1]

For getting started just get a FAS account [2] and send us a group add to
QA [3]

Feel free to ping me off-list and we will be planning for an onboarding
call soon!

P.S: Matthew, thanks a lot for replying :)

Self-introduction: Eric Lopez

2020-10-21 Thread Eric Lopez
Hello everyone,

I am interested in joining the QA team for Fedora. I would love to
contribute to my favorite operating system.

I have some experience with deployment testing at my current job. I am a
tech lead for windows support for Belcan, and we perform IT services for an
enterprise. The deployment testing group I am currently in tests out a wide
variety of software, Linux distributions, and policy changes. We ensure
that everything functions correctly in our environment before that specific
software gets pushed out on our production systems. We perform a lot of
quality assurance tests on Red Hat and Ubuntu. The latest test we performed
was on RHEL8.

My name is Eric Lopez, and I am 30 years old, and I currently live in
Albuquerque, New Mexico. I love using Linux as my main OS at home and work,
even though I support the Windows operating system for my day job. I like
to play video games when I am not at work, and I also love to build
projects on my raspberry pi. I am currently still learning to program in
python, so my pi projects are simple. The latest project I have created was
using Pi-hole!

Thank you for your consideration!

can also use the fedora-easy-karma rpm package for giving out
feedbacks.

As you know Fedora 33 Beta was announced some days ago, and we are near
the final release. We are currently testing the F33 Release Validation.
Running release validation tests [0] [1] will be very helpful!

Ah! Today is Fedora 33 Cloud Test Day 2020-10-05 [3]. Test days in
Fedora are days dedicated to test some novelty or some particular
aspect in the operating system. Fedora community members often
participate, and the public is welcome at these events. If you’ve never
contributed before, this is a perfect way to get started. Join #fedora-
test-day channel on Freenode IRC to meet, discuss and share experiences
with other participants to the event.

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [2], you can catch
us mostly at #fedora-qa on freenode IRC or Telegram.

If you have any question, please ask!
