Re: fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.

2003-02-28 Thread Lukas Keller

Hi again,

   Many thanks to Alberto Molina for directing me toward the solution for the
problem. The issue had come up before with BeOS, and Thomas Esser's suggested
solution can be found at:

   http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg01805.html

   I followed this and added the following to my cnf.c:

 #elif defined (_sparc_)
 #define unix

   This solved the problem and everything worked nicely thereafter.

   For those who are interested, I first tried Olaf Weber's suggestion which
can be found at:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg01809.html

   Perhaps I made a mistake when changing cnf.c, but while ftmutil.cnf was
found just fine after that change, the compilation ended with lots of errors.
If anyone is interested I can email them a partial log of the errors created.

   Thanks to all who made suggestions,

 Lukas

LUkas,

Try having a look at a previous problem I posted---it looks the same
to me. Apparently, your system is not detected as UNIX at some points.
Thomas Esser gave me a solution. The thread subject was "kpathsea and
BeOS". (Sorry, but do not have access to the message text now, so I
can not give you the exact solution).

Hi,

The precise problem also occurs on Sun Solaris 9 for Intel (not
Sparc). I have not even had time to track it down in any
detail (I just reboot to Linux), but would really like to see
a solution. I'll try looking at it tonight, if no one else
has any great ideas.

I'm using gcc rather than sun compilers, by the way, if that's
relevant.

fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.

2003-02-27 Thread Lukas Keller

 Hi,

   I am trying to compile and install tetex-2.0.1 on a Sun Sparcstation 20
running Solaris 2.6 (uname -a: SunOS bineshi 5.6 Generic_105181-33 sun4m sparc
SUNW,SPARCstation-20) using gcc2.8.1 .

   I've come across a problem I don't seem to be able to solve myself. Any
help would be most appreciated.

   When issuing 'make world' I get the following error message:

==

if test -f /local2/teTeX/bin/fmtutil; then \
  TEXMFMAIN=/local2/teTeX/share/texmf
PATH=/local2/teTeX/bin:/local2/teTeX/bin:usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/local:/usr/loc
al/bin:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/openwin/lib:/usr/etc:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/include/X1
1:/usr/ucb \
/local2/teTeX/bin/fmtutil --all; \
else :; fi
fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.
*** Error code 255
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `install'

==

The file in question does exist at /local2/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c but somehow
make doesn't find it. I had a look around and saw that other people have had
similar problems. They were solved when they realized that an environment
variable (TEXMF) had inadvertently been set. The output of 'env' on my machine
(see below) does not suggest the presence of any such environment variable.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Many thanks,

Lukas

Maybe, but in any case there are ample debugging tools available to you
before you can decide where the fault lies. I'd start by running
texconfig manually. This does some quick sanity checks and might point to
the problem right away. If not, you should systematically check that
kpathsea is finding things in the right places. Have it print the values
of all the relevant variables and look at the debugging logs for various
searches. Can you do 'texdoc kpathsea'?

fmtutil.cnf not found !

2002-11-08 Thread cudjoe
I'm running under linux debian 3.0 unstable with 2.4.19 kernel.
I try to install latex with apt. I seem to have all the required packages.

The file exists :
# locate fmtutil.cnf

/etc/texmf/fmtutil.cnf
/usr/share/man/man5/fmtutil.cnf.5.gz
/usr/TeX/texmf-var/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
/usr/TeX/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf

There is a problem with tetex-extra

Sorry, tetex-extra is already the newest version.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 packages not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
Setting up tetex-extra (1.0.2+20011202-3) ...
texhash: Done.
Running initex for missing formats. This may take some time. ...
fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.
dpkg: error processing tetex-extra (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
tetex-extra
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Where is the solution ?

Everybody I know have succeeded without this problem !
Is it relative to unstable distribution ?

Thanks.
