I say we just have a collection of goodwill instruments on stage and anyone
who wants to jam can. It's free and the more alcohol the better the music
sounds.

Re: [Texascavers] robots in today's news

2016-07-08 Thread Herman Miller via Texascavers
This robot was no more autonomous than a predator drone in iraq. What it
did we have been doing on a near daily basis since 9/11. When predator
drones were initially armed there was a lot of talk about whether it
violated the Geneva conventions or not. After deliberation it was found
that it was in concordance. Are there autonomous "robots" capable of using
lethal force; most definitely. There are FLIR controlled weapon mounts
that will fire indescriminantly and without input from a controller. The
idea of strapping an explosive to a remote controlled vehicle is nothing
new.

That is an important milestone in human history of Biblical importance.
Certainly more interesting than the story about the image of the rose
petals appearing on the drunk man's shirt ( See Virgin of Guadalupe )

We have known for at least a year they have been using remote control
drones to destroy groups of foreigners, but drones are not robots, and the
alleged Jihadist are not citizens.

So now we have a new worry. Will the gov't use robots to kill us ? Can
we trust human-killing robots ? Can we trust men who profit from
human-killing robots ? Will we build a robot designed to destroy
out-of-control human-kiling robots ?

Much to the chagrin of my family this will be the second TCR in a row that
I'll be missing, so no showing up early and helping build up the site for
me. I'm burning a lot of my time off preparing for the 2016 NSS convention
in Ely, NV and also an extended trip into a newly discovered cave in
central British Columbia that is showing a ton of potential. I hope you
all have a great reunion and I hope to see you all at next years national

The optimum time for dishwashing is actually *after* dinner. Cooking
pots, etc. are emptied into the serving vessels as late as possible, and
then serving vessels are emptied by hungry cavers. *That* is when there is
lots of washing up to be done.

It is best done that evening, before it has caked on overnight. In the
morning we really just want to pack up dry gear and go home, not wash the

Re: [Texascavers] Immigration and caving

2014-11-21 Thread Herman Miller via Texascavers
There are numerous avenues for individuals to come into the united states
for recreation. many people in europe only need a passport to enter the
country via the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Mexican citizens need either a
B1/B2 visa to enter the United States or if making a crossing via sea or
land the may enter the country utilizing a B1/B2 Border Crossing Card BCC.
Neither of these are particularly hard to receive you just need to apply at
a US consulate in the country which you reside in and basically prove that
you just want to come into the country for legitimate reasons and that you
arent a risk for staying after the expiration of your visa and or the
permitted individual stay times for a visa, for a B2 (Recreation) the
default period you are permitted to be in the country is six months with a
specific amount of the year spent outside the country which I do not recall
at this time. Under this visa you are not allowed to work and you receive
no benefits. The BCC is very similar though when crossing you also need to
pay a nominal fee for a form I-94. this will allow you to travel further
into the country as a BCC normally only allows an individual to travel 50
miles north (75 in Arizona).

Regarding an expired Lawfully Admitted Residence Card aka LAPR Card or
green card. she will not be out of status with an expired green card
though she will need to get it renewed prior to leaving the country or run
the risk of being charged a very hefty fee on the order of ~800 dollars for
a waiver of documents which is of course not guaranteed. worst case
scenario is that she could be denied entry for criminal acts she has
commited while in the United States or abroad.

 dlocklea...@gmail.com

I hope I can make this sound caving related, but that is probably
 stretching it.

I have heard rumors there are non-U.S. citizens living in the states that
not only go caving here, but are very active cavers.

I would be in favor of a plan to allow undocumented foreign cavers a
visitation visa that was renewable every 3 years, as long as a U.S. citizen
in good standing sponsored them, and that the process be straight-forward.
I would not want them to receive any kind of gov't benefits and their
children would have to attend private school, and their spouses would have
to stay home or qualify separately under their own skills. I would want
their entire criminal history, (not just felonies,) publicly accessible. I
would think such a visa would be worth $ 1,000.

But how would the gov't weed out undesirable applicant's who find
loopholes in the procedures, that nefarious immigration attorneys are known
for? There would be so much fraud.

Personally, I am strongly opposed to deportation of criminals. I would
much rather keep them here permanently in remote tent camps in northern
North Dakota. So I disagree with both Republicans and Democrats in that.

I would like to see a rule included to protect naive US spouses who marry
non-U.S. citizens, but to especially prohibit their children from being
 taken out of the country.

 On a related note,

my Mexican mother-in-law, stays with us for 3 months, then goes home and
renews her papers and then comes back a month later She has been doing
this for 10 years and I am so burned out from having to deal with her. She
does not hurt America, but does make pocket-change cooking tamales and
sewing clothes for other immigrants in our neighborhood. The only help she
provides is being our kid's nanny, so you could say she is putting the
nanny and baby-sitter out of business.

Also, my estranged wife will be here illegally in about 3 months, as her
Green Card will expire. She has made no effort to fix that, except to call
my mother and tell her what a rotten son she raised.
She just started working as a pre-K teacher in a private school in a
religious facility, so she is putting an American out of a job there. The
pay and benefits are terrible, but location is very convenient for her.

One big question I have is, what other presidents in the world are making
an effort to allow US citizens more rights and access to their resources
? Saudi Arabia ? Tibet? Syria ? Puerto Rico ?
( just kidding on Puerto Rico )
