Just a question . Is there a (relatively easy) way of changing owner

... if we only had batch modify plugin installed enabled ... sigh /

I really could not figure it out , but I suppose it may be some kind
of confictive proxy or firewall in the middle of the long way to
TH.org (and any other subversion server since it doen't work with any,
including python.org, * , BTW)

In fact I had a hard time cloning t-h.o SVN repo with hgsvn and another
one, literally took me days, while hgsubversion was a breeze pulling all
into a repo that got only half as big as the regular hybrid ones in a
few hours. True, it seems to utilize local SVN client for contact with
SVN repo, but I fail to see a problem in this fact alone. After all, how
do you expect to contact and pull from a SVN server, if not via SVN? :-)

of course , I'm not saying that using SVN client under the hood is
wrong , I'm just saying it doesn't work for me since long time ago ...

Can you guys please explain to me why SVN doesn't work for you? I mean,
not in a technical sense, but we you are not simply using it?
What exactly is so much better in Mercurial? I don't know it at all.

Briefly:

- I can't interact with SVN repos.
- Built-in support for branches, tags and many other features
that at least until I used it , were missing in SVN
- Patch queues (MQ) are a great way to develop patches by
groups of people (at least much better than the current
attach successive versions of the patch to ticket ) and
commit them to the repos on approval .
- ...

Ok, it is distributed and SVN is centralized, but does this make any
difference for a repository like T-H?

At least the patches thing IMO , yes ...

There are mostly only one or two
 people working on a hack.

but anybody can submit patches .

 It isn't the Linux kernel.
Maybe you don't want to change your workflow and/or learn the details of
another VC software, which I really understand. I don't want to learn HG
 as well :-)

/me using SVN for many years , until crashed and never came back ... ;o)

So far I was not seeing any arguments on this list WHY hg is required
(SVN does not work for me without explanation does not really count).

«SVN does not work for me» in my case means there's no possible way to
checkout, commit , * , cause I always get HTTP errors (gateway
timeouts, forbidden, ... at random) . If you don't understand it ,
well, now we're two ;o) ; but the fact is that it doesn't work , and
not because I don't like it . So far I don't have an explanation
either , and asked to svn-users and got nothing either ... so .

Exactly because it is distributed :)
That means, someone does not need to have commit access to the svn
repository on t-h.o to create their own branches, modifications etc.
If you want to do only a simple change, a patch is sufficient,
but doing something more is PITA if you can't commit during the work
(you lose all the benefits of repository if you have to develop a big
feture without the possibility to do commits).

Second, even if you have commit access to the main svn repository,
you sometimes want to have private branches, that you do not share
with the world, to try, experiment, etc.

Ha !!! or MQ patches ...
;o)

[...]
IMHO if you try hg or git, even in two people cooperation (or even
individually), you just do not want to go back to the dark svn ages ;)

I secnd that !

Let's not reduce chances on TH upgrade. =)
ok , is it possible that this will happen later ?

I answer that question with a clear maybe. :)

There have been suggestions to make use of Trac 0.12's feature for
supporting multiple repositories and different repository types (such as
git and hg besides svn) on trac-hacks.org, too. That would be a major
change in how t-h.o operates, but it makes sense to think closer about
whether and how this could be done and what the benefits of such a step
 might look like.

But first things first. The upgrade to Trac 0.12 alone is a pretty big
step already, and before that one didn't happen it does not make too much
sense to start planning other big steps :)

Ok , I agree with that !!!
Even if a single repos is allowed per hack , and repos type is chosen
at e.g. registration time , I'd be very happy with that .

Thnx !

Ok, we probably misunderstood slightly ;)
I just responded to Martin about what mercurial and git has that svn
doesn't. I didn't want to compare hg and git in any way ([0]), sorry if
it sounded like that. And I don't have any opinion whetver TH.org should
migrate to dvcs, if someone wants to use one for their hacks, they just
 use some avaialable hosting solution.

JFTR , an alternative might be to install some kind of Trac connector
for some popular VCS hosting sites e.g. GitHub, BitBucket, SF.net ...
therefore leaving the heavy repos management task to them ??

I'll set that on my list. However, this step requires the use of packages

Is there a chance for getting Hg repos @ TH.org in its initial upgrade stage ?

By the way: what is the benefit of the new version for our purposes?

It is not THAT important, but I had some problems when trying to do some
 branch merging.

In the case of Hg I'd say :

To me is very important . I can't interact with SVN 1.(5|6).* repos .
