Dear all  The world is going at a fast pace .we declare we r modern but as an
elderly person what alarms me most is levels of stress and insecurity which has
risen among the people .          I feel very sad and dismayed to follow kamal
hasans career graph .
Long ago we visited his family at their eldams road residence .his mama shri
jaganathan and my fatherinlaw were colleagues in the IB .  His mother a very
beautiful saintly iyengar lady who was quite ill replied to my fatherinlaw s
query in a shocking way     He told her to get him.married and her reply  I
don't want to spoil a girls life .he has very different views . This callous
statement about ur own son set me thinking of  parenting  .    Religion teaches
us how to live  and teaches us to  endure rejection sufferings and gives us
strength to deal with life   Our Hindu religion is not a religion it is a way
of life .The Muslim religious teachings are praiseworthy as they stress on
protecting the women .the meher system and the widow remarriage and the dowry
system is very well organised.
Christianity we know teaches us about  peace love and and endurance .  It is
terrible to note how all these teachings who give us the ability to commune
with our inner strength has been reduced to rituals and blind fundamentalism .
The Sikhs r the ideal bridge of spiritualty which has combined all faiths in
their guru Grantha saab.    We have the so called gutless  broadminded Hindus
condemning their religion. I feel very sorry for them .            They have
not understood the ancient texts and fail to  understand the strength it gives
us .it is a pathetic bid to gain popularity with the other faiths ,believe me
no one is going to respect u .
Family and parents have a vital role to play moulding a child's life  during
the formative years . Let us not confuse rituals and caste based blind
orthodoxy with religion .Rituals r personal belief systems .
We have raja ram.mohan Roy and rabindranath  tagore  who started the brahma
samaj . We have dayananda  saraswathi who started the arya  samaj .life should
be based on efforts regularity and discipline.    Secularism is a misunderstood
term only applies to Hindus. The other faiths merrily continue their lives .
Kamal hasan is  a brilliant actor has reduced himself to a puppet and feel very
sad for himI guess the orthodoxy put him of . Hatred and condemning and using
prejudiced statements never give us a status .             The Hindus have
their sanathana dharma which tells us about our different duties stresses on
the fact life is temporary .It is not the fault of the religion we have become
buffoons and object of derision .    It is the duty of every parent to instill
religious spiritual values and encourage their children to pray be friendly be
equal and relaxed that is all.Do ur best and leave it to the God to do the rest
.The Hindus revere all the natural elements and express thanks giving .the fact
it is been reduced to a money making pathetic circus .is not the fault of the
religion.   my humble appeal don't expose ur children to blind superstition
rituals and black magic and stupid orthodoxy and term it religion . Don't
overprotect them .teach them to be good strong human beings .learn to be  a
good human being and the kids will follow      Regards jayshree venkatraman

Sharing no whining

2018-03-24 Thread 'Jayashree Venkataraman' via Thatha_Patty
Dear all Sharing as usual my fears and apprehensions.  Iam
increasingly alarmed at the growing frustration and the negative vibes which is
spewed out during functions and family gatherings   regarding the super
geriatric  care, makes one shudder because of the terrible  after effects it
has on the young er generation .
The responsibilities which now people in their 70s
are facing are caretaking of their elders in their 90s. I admit it is tough but
pls refrain from whining and grumbling so openly .the sickening part is either
complaining or boasting .most of them want padma shri  ha ha  It  is after all
our parents .               I don't want to moralise but the solution is
sharing and  caring and accepting part time help .pls don't drive ur self too
hard .Take a break and if necessary find an adult creche . I would like to
suggest instead of complaining about adult kids  during ur idle times and
indulging in self pity pls offer part time help to the concerned family .
Let me tell u about shri Sampath and Mrs Malini both r senior bank officials .
They r offering help and moral support to the super geriatric group giving the
family members a breather. They told us we were wondering what to do with
ourselves and we decided to spend time this way gives u a feeling of tripti. No
big  lect ures they just mention it casually that is all.      Quite a few of
us who have free time can think about it  within the family or extended
relations.an afternoon or a day should ocasionally make a world of difference.
I honestly feel the grumbling and rage  makes u a sick person not the caring .
I remember I used to enjoy old movies with my elders and they
used to tell me very rare stories .                       I remember my dad
suddenly asked me u never sing ur old rabindra Sangeet I almost told him that
day I would do it later but some divine strength urged me on .I brought out my
harmonioum and we had a wonderful session of singing and reliving our days in
calcutta .a few days later dad went into  a semi coma and never returned. What
iam trying to emphasize is spend time with family ..even now I feel so warm and
thankful  when I think of that day   I was amused at my relative who has
proudly presented some ancient family tree from some archives and is busy
publicizing it .this person had not cared to give a second look when the elders
were alive .             Ask ur self an honest question what r u trying to
achieve.                           We need to understand one thing  if we r
able to be with our elders and family when they r all alive and  be of some use
to the mortal body it is an achievement .Let us not try to do things remote
control .                   it is futile.don't over do the respect and
adoration pls give some attention to ur wife and husband .
we have no idea of balance .either we behave li k e Shravan baalak who
carried his parents around in a basket,                     personally I feel
it is very unrealistic and juvenile or we dump them during emergencies.
pls remember don't behave like gautam
Buddha  dumping that poor yashodara .do u remember who she is  or lakshmana
dumping that poor urmila.                the mantra of existence is sharing and
caring and enjoying and depart .regards jayshree venkatraman
Ps   philosophy comes later learn to feed the
hungry and realise the pain of existence. It is a tragedy when we r not welcome
any where and very sad to see people faces screw up in distaste when we timidly
smile expecting  a smile in return .whatever age we r .
Pls refrain from shunning people .it might be u at their door one day .    U
might be the next time keeps ticking my friend .

Fw: Vedic Verses for 8/6/17

2017-08-06 Thread 'Jayashree Venkataraman' via Thatha_Patty
Dear allI am really dismayed at the growing dependence of the corporate and
political  world resorting to tantric powers for succes and mental peace .
There has been a mention about this obsession in india today a few years back
.hinduism is not at all understood by us .it is a wonderful balance of duties
rights and way of living .why r we getting stuck at the ritualistic level. Why
don't we realise we have no power to change our destiny.of course we have the
power of prayer ,positive vibrations which do help  and modify.
Let us read out vedas and upanishads and realise there is a time when we need
to know when tobe  detached .it is comical when peopl get terrified of evil
forces.please realise we r all mortal and distri buting and sharing are the
real forces which help. No one is responsible for our life's activities ups and
down .we all know it is a kaala chakram.        There r 4 stages for all .when
we reach vaanprastham we should have the brains to realise and move away .fear
is the biggest disease.pls don't blame any one accept everyone's behaviour.u
might like the excerpts from the upanishad.all of us must during our early
seventies must  follow vedanta way only to prevent from cribbing and the
emotion of fear rage and jealousy . We r so petrified why.  life is very
painful I know but no point in finding loopholes .accept and move on believe me
it helps pls don't encourage half baked ritualistic methods and demean our
divine religion. Naam sankeertanam  and discipline is the best solution to
alleviate mental and physical pain .Regards jayshree venkatraman

what is secularism teaching us

2013-07-13 Thread Jayashree Venkataraman
listening to the old hauntingly melodious song from chitralekha 'mann re tu
kaahe na dheer dhare' i was amazed at the beautiful philosophy underlying the
words and then it struck me what is our pathetic nation been led to believe
about been secular from our bandit group of politicians .

This song is written for a history based movie chitralekha, the singer
is a punjabi muslim and i have yet to see a person singing with such devotion
the famed rafi sahb , the lyrics are pure sanskrit based verses and written by
sahir

ludhianvi a punjabi muslim and the music composed by a  punjabi hindu Roshan
Nagrath

do we need any more lessons in secularism , well i think the hindus are the
only ones who are given all the pathetic instructions. let us wake up and put
our sick nation on our feet and that is the least we oldies can do for the
children of the Nation

I want to thank you all for your educational e-mails over
the past year. I am totally screwed up now and have little
chance of recovery.

I can no longer open a bathroom door without using a paper
towel, nor let the waitress put lemon slices in my ice water
without worrying about the bacteria on the lemon peel.

I can't sit down on a hotel bedspread because I can only
imagine what has happened on it since it was last washed.

I have trouble shaking hands with someone who has been
driving because the number one pastime while driving alone
is picking one's nose.

Eating a little snack sends me on a guilt trip because I can
only imagine how many gallons of trans fats I have consumed
over the years.

I can't touch any woman's handbag for fear she has placed it
on the floor of a public toilet.

I must send my special thanks for the email about rat poo in
the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet sponge
with every envelope that needs sealing.

ALSO, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for
the same reason.

I can't have a drink in a bar because I fear I'll wake up in
a bathtub full of ice with my kidneys gone.

I can't eat at KFC because their chickens are actually
horrible mutant freaks with no eyes, feet or feathers.

I can't use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell
like a water buffalo on a hot day.

Thanks to you I have learned that my prayers only get
answered if I forward an e-mail to seven of my friends and
make a wish within five minutes.

Because of your concern , I no longer drink Coca Cola
because it can remove toilet stains.

I no longer buy fuel without taking someone along to watch
the car, so a serial killer doesn't crawl in my back seat
when I'm filling up.

I no longer use Cling Wrap in the microwave because it
causes seven different types of cancer.

And thanks for letting me know I can't boil a cup of water
in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face,
disfiguring me for life.

I no longer go to the cinema because I could be pricked with
a needle infected with AIDS when I sit down.

I no longer go to shopping centers because someone will drug
me with a perfume sample and rob me..

And I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me
to dial a number for which I will get a huge phone bill with
calls to Jamaica , Uganda , Singapore and Uzbekistan ..

Thanks to you I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a
big black snake could be lurking under the seat and cause me
instant death when it bites my butt.

And thanks to your great advice I can't ever pick up a dime
coin dropped in the car park because it was probably placed
there by a sex molester waiting to grab me as I bend over.

I can't do any gardening because I'm afraid I'll get bitten
by the Violin Spider and my hand will fall off.

If you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in
the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on
your head at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, and the

fleas from 120 camels will infest your back, causing you to
grow a hairy hump. I know this will occur because it
actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbors ex
mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's best friend's
beautician!

Oh, and by the way...

A German scientist from Argentina , after a lengthy study,
has discovered that people with insufficient brain
activity read their e-mails with their hand

Subject: Fw: t's time to get angry !!

Dear friends,
Many of you don’t know me, many will say ‘unsubscribe’, many would not like
to read it at all but I need to write..
It’s not about me, it’s not about you. It’s about the place we stay in, the
society we live in, the systems we have!!
I often wonder when a mosquito bites me why do I think of a
repellant, why a coil or hit, why don’t I have the courage to question my
municipality?
Why do I buy water in a bottle? Why do I purify water at my home?
Does the water bill say that the tap water is only for washing clothes or
having
a bath? Why don’t I get drinking water in my tap?
Why should I pay a toll tax on every single black, nice looking
road? Why a basic road is not my right?
Why do I buy an inverter or dream of a generator? Why don’t I get
current in my wires?
Why do we call the private schools as public schools.. I always
thought schools run by the government should be called public schools!!
Why- the cricketer who sold the ethics of game sits in parliament or
come as experts on channels?
Why someone known for beating his wife and had charges of holding
drugs is a celebrity to judge dance shows and all of us watch and clap
too.
Why is it that the so called high profile tainted journalists still
run public shows and we all watch it..
Why don’t I know the fine on jumping red light or for not wearing a
helmet but am very well aware of power of 100 rupees: the cost of duty of most
of the traffic guys across the country!!
Why is a girl raped in a roaming car in the capital of the country
almost every month and all that the government says is that “girls should be
careful..”
Why does the trial and judgment of social activists just takes a few
weeks but Raja, Raju, Reddy roam around!!
Why even after killing hundreds of people on road the blue line
buses remained on roads? Do you know any city apart from the capital of your
country where the city buses crushed people on a daily basis?
Why didn’t we come on the roads when someone made elephants of
stones for thousands of crores rupees in U.P. where people still dig pits to
sleep or die of hunger?
Why a tainted, corrupt minister is called to IIM and Academy for IAS
and applauded – unstopped on his desi style?
It’s so easy to call someone corrupt but have you ever thought; The act
of bribe starts by giving not by taking.. it starts from me not from him or
her.. so why don’t I look at myself first ?
I strongly believe that the Logic is always for NOT doing something..
Doing does not need logic, doers don’t believe in logics!!
Just a couple of years back some people came and played with us, killed our
pride and people. We were angry.. some people thought  that the attack in
Mumbai was on rich people and therefore something would change..
Nothing happened.. we all go to gateway of Indian on every anniversary in
November, burn some wax, sing some songs and come back. Nothing changes- the
government is back, Z security is back and people are back at the Gateway of
India…
It’s time to come out, stand up...move.. do something.. Sitting in
drawing rooms or discussing over a mug of beer will not solve anything..
Please remember this country does not need thinkers any more, enough of
them.. what you need is an action .. an initiative !!
Even when the government listens to Anna, the voice has to go on…
corruption is not limited to the government only !!  we all need to start
with ourselves and march..
Anna Hazare is there.. and there are thousands of people across.. its time
for you to join.. Time to create lots of Jantar Mantars- across the
country..
Lage raho !!

The story is man made, no truth, all false statements, please do not circulate.

I know a story, In nagaland some christian propagandist who wants to spread
christianity decided to convert the whole town, they kept a Two in one stereo
player on a tree top hidden and they can operate through remote control. They
said to the people we will call krishna, siva, ganapathy etc.. and jesus, see
who answers our call, they read Bhagavath geetha, bible then they started
calling each god, but when they called jesus, somebody operated the stereo set
by remote control and a loud voice answered and it started a verse from bible
also, and the christian fathers who added more spirit by going unconscious,
crying etc... converted the whole uneducated gramavasis

A BREATHTAKING TESTIMONY OF DR. SRINIVASA BHATTACHARY

(This testimony was given in a public meeting in Tamilnadu)

Good morning, How many of you are really happy this morning? I am Dr. Srinivasa
Bhattachary. If I appropriately introduce myself stating my full name it is too
long. I come from the 145th direct generation of Sri Vaishnav Bhattachary
priesthood community. Even today my grandfather, Raghu Bhattachary is the chief
priest in Sri Ranganathaswamy Devasthanam at Sirangam. My father Govindaraja
Bhattahay is chief priest in Srilakshmaneshaswamy Devasthanam at
Ponvanugalathoor. I come from a family background of priests and today my whole
family are Bhattacharyas for the gods who have eyes but cannot see, who have
ears but cannot hear, who have noses but cannot smell, who have hands but
cannot touch, who have legs but cannot walk, but I by the grace of Jesus
Christ, have come among you as a Bhattachary for Lord Jesus Christ.

At the age of six I wore the sacred thread (poonool) according to the Hindu
tradition. I was given to the Gayathri Diksha, ombhoohu, Om bhuwaha, Om
subhaga, ommaha, Omjanaka, Om thapaka, Om sathyam, Om thathuservdarinam, Om
barbudevastimagam, Om diviyayonagam, Om prajothaya, Om jothirasakam, Om
amarthavarm, Om burbosaram. I was sent to an ashramam for my studies. Right
from my childhood I studied the Rigveda, Yegurveda, Samarveda, Adarvarnaveda,
Nalayiram Lijya Prabhandtha, Ethihasa, Purana Ramayana, Mahabharatha,
Ehagvateeetha etc etc in the Hindu mythological subjects in Sanskrit as well as
in the Grandha language. Once my early education was over in Hindu philosophy
in south India , I was sent to north India , Uttar Pradesh to do my doctorate
in the Banaras University . I went there and did my siromony in Sanskrit and
Ph.D. in Grandha. While I was studying in the Banaras University the
destruction of the Babri Masjid took place at Ayodhya. Since I was
a Bhattachary and since I was doing my double Ph.D. in a famous Hindu
university, I was chosen by the RSS as their national youth leader. The
objective of the RSS, as you all know, is to stop foreign religions coming to
India . They are especially dead against to Christ and Christianity being
proclaimed in the land of India . When I was in this organisation as their
national Youth leader, my personal commitment was to destroy the mosque then
and there. In those days my faith in the Hindu religion and their gods was very
strong and so I went all the way to France and I peddled a dynamite bomb and I
brought it to India and set it off at the tomb of the mosque, using my personal
computer from my cabin. At that time many Islamic fundamentalists came forward
to stop us in our activities. In retaliation our Hindu parishad people chopped
up their hands and legs and chopped off their heads and killed not less than

i just got this mail from a senior citizen group and i was asked for my
comments . Ihave only one thing to say if we lead our life with ethical
principles and remember to see things from others point of view, and steer
clear from been judgmental the world would be a better place. thought i would
send it to the group. why is it that we always think a little too late, it
sounds a little to mushy about the laddos and we have to realise that is not
the point start setting an example when we are young would be a better solution

The son who performs the ritual of shraddha even though his mother is alive

[Note: Shraddha is a Hindu ritual performed for the benefit of the departed
ancestors.]

I met a friend at the Indian sweet shop and he said: ‘Today is my mother’s
Shraddha and she likes ladoo very much, so I have come to buy some.

I was very surprised. Just five minutes ago I had met his mother in the
vegetable market. And before I could say something, his mother arrived there
with her bag . I slapped my friend and said: ‘Dear friend, what type of joke is
this? Mother is here, right next to you!’

My friend put both his hands on his mother's shoulders and with a smile said:
‘Gopal bhai, rather than perform the Shraddha after her death and give the
ladoos to crows, I prefer satisfying her whilst she is alive by putting the
ladoo in her meal. I believe that to make our parents happy whilst they are
alive is the true shraddha.’

He further said that Mother had diabetes, but she likes MAAZA [soft drink] very
much, so I always keep MAAZA in the fridge.

Orange, Apple, mangoes, etc. are her favourite items and I feed her with all
these.

Devotees go and light incense sticks in the temple. I do not visit the temple,
but I do light the mosquito repelling incense stick in mother’s bedroom.

In the morning before she starts reading the Bhagvad Gita, I polish her reading
glasses. I think rather than dusting the photograph or idol of God, cleaning
the old mother’s reading glasses has more merit.

My friend's opinion will hurt the devotees, but there is some virtue in his
belief. We tend to perform shradha after the death of our ancestors. We feed a
luxury meal to the community. Remember that this may be all right as a
tradition, but to feed cows and crows never benefits the departed souls.

Even in America and Japan there is no service which will carry tiffin [lunch
box] to the heavens above. Giving all the comforts to parents whilst they are
alive is the most virtuous shraddha.

One truth must be realised right now. Sons may be very wise, understanding and
loving but they cannot know the true pains, dependence, and vulnerability felt
in old age.

The helplessness experienced by the blind can only be understood by becoming
blind. Under the circumstance, the old need love more than money and support,
rather than criticism.

In today’s life of stress, we can forgive those sons who themselves are
suffering from tensions and responsibilities of their own. Even though they
desire, they are unable to look after their parents. A large proportion of
elders in the society are suffering disrespect and suffering in silence.

Such sons do not spend a little to please their parents and spend thousands of
rupees after their death in appeasing the community.

When the parents are eating their meals, the daughter-in-law does not want to
add a spoonful of ghee in their rice, yet in their funeral, they w,aste a kilo
of ghee on their dead body; they give donations to Brahmins, they visit places
of worship to perform shraddha. All these are unproductive activities.

Although the old and orthodox are unlikely to change their worn out mindset, it
is necessary of the youth of today to dispense with these old meaningless
traditions.

There is a small booklet containing the poetry of Shayar Devdas ‘Ameer’. A
sentence in it by Ramesh Joshi: ‘When I was a child, I remembered my mother
whenever there were tears in my eyes; today, whenever I remember my mother,
tears come to my eyes!.

When we were young and could not walk, they held our hands and made us walk.
Now, they are unable to walk, so we should hold their hands!

I understand one thing very well. You may not be able to take your elderly
parents to visit places of worship, but if you take them with respect and
support to the toilet, it will be as good as visiting 68 places of worship. It
is said that parents cry on two occasions: one when their daughter gets married
and leaves home; other when their sons disregard them. But mothers! They have
to cry throughout their

i have been reading and been a part of this august and intellectual group  for
quite a few years  and i completely agree with Madam that we are having a
surfeit of religious articles and bordering on the ritualistic pattern . Small
incidents and pep tabs can be included and suggestions to get on with life at
all age groups .

Dear Friends,
As you all know i am a member here since the first day itself
and we have a  beautiful group now with  lot of members here. We are receiving
a lot of emails daily and most of them are simply good to read. Off late i feel
that we are heading very  much towards religious and Brahminism which is not a
healthy one. Sincerely i must say that we should start writing on a broader
subject on various topics instead of caste and religion, which others may feel
a bad taste. There are enormous topics on health, medicines, travelling,
cooking, art, jokes, etc etc. Lets please focus our attention to these topics
hereafter and it would be very healthy and nice too.

Sorry i dont mean to hurt anyone, its only a small request
which i felt like expressing , and not for anyone to take it to heart.
Sometimes religion and repeatitive emails are  becoming a bore.As the group is
growing bigger we have people from various walks of life and so better we start
thinking on these lines.

    God bless,
LalithaSubramaniam
