I'd second that very much, although I am assuming this is not trivial to
implement.

[tw] [TW5] Websockets and TiddlyWiki

2017-10-29 Thread Jed Carty
This is only for the node version of tiddlywiki and it is less polished
than I would like, but it may be a week before I get back to working on it
so I wanted to share it now.

For a while I have been using websockets with tiddlywiki to control my
robot and as an interface between tiddlywiki and git. I finally got around
to packaging the websockets portion up nicely into a plugin. Unfortunately
I don't have a good demo application for this yet. I am working on setting
up a git plugin as a demo but it isn't ready yet.

What this plugin lets you do is send messages between the browser and the
node process.

This gives a framework for doing a few things that people have been asking
for and discussing, including triggering bash or other scripts from a wiki,
allowing edits to tiddler files (or adding tiddler files) outside of the
wiki to affect the wiki without having to restart the node server, to
search through folders of images or pdf files and create the .meta files to
add them to a wiki, and, like I was doing with my robot, stream real time
data into a wiki and use the wiki to control other systems on the computer.
This can hopefully be used to make multi-user wikis by allowing the server
to let each wiki know when a tiddler is being edited.

Now I just need to make some of it. It uses a two npm modules, websockets
(the ws module) and it gets information it needs using the ip module. If
you don't know what that means than this is probably not developed enough
for you to play with yet.

I put the plugin on GitHub
here https://github.com/OokTech/TW5-TiddlyWebSockets but without something
else that uses it all you can do is make a button like this:

<$button>
Test
<$action-websocketmessage $type='test'/>

and when you click the button the window with the node process should
display

{ messageType: 'test' }

in the console where the node process is running.

With this base worked out creating things that use this is relatively
straight forward and as soon as I get a demo application set up I am going
to write documentation for it. Hopefully this is something we can add into
the node version of tiddlywiki after a bit of polishing.

In my opinion, the problem with relying on the Download Saver for many
people is the chance of losing work accidentally. It depends, I suppose,
how one actually uses TW. I tend to have it open all the time for making
notes and personally, I wouldn't be at all happy to have to manually save

[tw] Using Android from multiple devices

2017-10-29 Thread AlanBCohen
I've been following the discussions of different techniques to use to backup
your tiddlywiki from multiple devices. My primary problem is that I have become
mostly an Android user, only occasionally going to my TW from a computer. This
is a technique that is currently working well for me. I use two Android
devices, a phone and a tablet, Andtidwiki, Dropbox and Dropsync Pro. As most of
you know, Andtidwiki requires you to use a specific directory on your device.
Dropsync Pro allows you to define pairs of directories to sync between your
Android device and your Dropbox. I sync my andTidWiki directory on each device
with a common Dropbox directory. I then specified that backups would be in both
directions and that backups would be done as frequently as possible on each
device. This minimizes the chance for the TW files on the two Androids becoming
out of sync because of timing problems. This also allows occasional access of
my TW file from my computers, if necessary. Since my computers are Linux boxes,
I am able to use the native Dropbox application to sync from a Linux box to a
Dropbox directory.

I hope this helps somebody else.

[tw] Re: INTRO: A script and todo manager workflow / UI experiment + video howto's

2017-10-29 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
The CSS related video (#5) is very good. Its the extra piece needed.

CSS in TW deserves much more documentation because its somewhat different
in how it works than most people expect. (1) css IDs are not reliable
[downside]. (2) css can be VERY EASILY applied and unapplied [big upside].

This is obvious to US. I'm pretty sure this is NOT obvious to new users.
