Lovely solution Saq!

why it does not work with a non-existent Target tiddler? how can I extend
the code to address this issue?

[tw5] Re: Reducing the friction of using images

2021-03-20 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
I assume we need the accompanying
*NodeJSExternalFiles plugin* if we want to externalize
the image automatically?

When I tried it without the plugin, it inserted the image as advertised,
but of course made a regular TW image tiddler.

When I tried it with the plugin installed, it created the image file in the
files directory but did not create any image tiddler (especially not the
_canonical_uri that I might have been expecting). The link it created still
expected an image TIddler and needed to be hand-adjusted to include the
files/ path. I guess if it were to be tweaked it should be tweaked so that
the file path in the inserted link includes *files/* in the path name. That
would make it close to a complete solution.

When compared to something like Evernote, there's still the additional step
you need of first downloading images to your hard drive before importing
them back into your TW file.

Thanks!

Nah nah nah. Every basic question (including recurring/repeat question),

Same as any TiddlyWiki use case, or sample approach to solving something,

All of these are stuff of the "some good" kind !

2021-03-20 Thread David Gifford
oof, I didn't package this into a plugin, I only recently learned to do
this. And as I mentioned in the OP, I don't intend to support this with
help. You could try copying your file, then import all the tiddlers and all
the system tiddlers. Experiment to see if it breaks anything. If it
doesn't, youre good. If it does, throw away the file and continue using
your original.

[tw5] Keyboard Shortcut Suggestion for Linking

2021-03-20 Thread Scott Simmons (Secret-HQ)
The ability to add and configure keyboard shortcuts in TiddlyWiki is the
gift that keeps on giving!

I would like to float a suggestion about the built-in shortcuts for
linking, however:

In Windows world, CTRL+K is usually the keyboard shortcut for creating a
hyperlink (at least in text editors and in the text areas of most programs
I've come across). One of the first things I did when I discovered I could
now configure shortcuts in TW was change the *Linkify* shortcut to CTRL+K
and the *Link* shortcut to SHIFT+CTRL+K.

I don't know that I've ever seen CTRL+L or SHIFT+ALT+L trigger any kind of
linking behavior in Windows. Unless there are conventions I'm unaware of,
I'd recommend making TW's out-of-the-box shortcuts for *Linkify* and *Link*
CTRL+K and SHIFT+CTRL+K, respectively.

==

I might also recommend a minor edit to the hint shadow tiddlers for each
shortcut to prod users in distinguishing them in the control panel.

Perhaps:
Wrap selection in square brackets, e.g. `link`
... for *Link*.

And:
Create wikitext link, e.g. `destination`
... for *Linkify*.

[tw5] Re: Edit textbox to append text to another tiddler

2021-03-20 Thread Saq Imtiaz
@Diego, this is untested code but should hopefully point you in the right
direction:

\define appendBoxActions()
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> text={{{
[get[text]addsuffixaddsuffixaddsuffix{$:/temp/appendbox}]

}}}/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler="$:/temp/appendbox" text=""/>
\end

<$vars targetTiddler="Target" linebreak="
">
<$keyboard key="Enter" actions=<>>
<$edit-text tag="textarea" placeholder="" tiddler="$:/temp/appendbox"/>

Since you are only appending on the Enter key as opposed to on every
keystroke, you could indeed apply this code via a viewtemplate and append
to the tiddler the textarea field is in, if so desired. The key is that the
edit-text widget writes to a temp tiddler.

[tw5] Re: Edit textbox to append text to another tiddler

2021-03-20 Thread Mat
Hi Diego.
Lot of ambiguous points in your post, but I think it should be pretty
simple once it is clear what you want:

What do you mean with "gets appended to a tiddler" - where? To the tiddlers
title? To the bottom of the tiddler? And yes it can, without a problem, "be
appended" to the current tiddler. And should the timestamp be part of the
string you append?

And what do you mean that you "know it will involve a keyboard widget" -
are you saying you *want* it to? (It certainly doesn't have to). And what
do you mean that the keyboardwidget would do?

2021-03-20 Thread dieg...@gmail.com

Hello all,

Using Nico's projectify with the excellent quick todo add, has put me in
mind for something similar.

I'd like to have a tiddler with an edit box visible in view mode, and when
I type something in that edit box and press enter, what I've typed gets
*appended* to a tiddler (as I understand, cant be the tiddler Im using the
edit box in), with a timestamp.

I know this will involve a keyboard widget. While I was trying it out
myself, I got stuck trying to append.

Has anyone done anything similar and/or willing to help?

Thanks!
Diego

Use the ".tc-menubar" class, like this:

.tc-menubar {
 font-family: monospace;
 font-size:18pt;
}

You can use the "has[...]" filter which, by default, looks for *non-empty*
field values.
You can also combine both field tests into one filter run.

Thus:
<$vars disabled={}>

enjoy,
-e

Re: [tw5] Looking for a simple and mobile friendly wiki for a public website

2021-03-20 Thread Ste
Hi Ivan,
As tiddlywiki is an html file it is basically a web site out of the box.
You only really need somewhere to host it. That can range from Dropbox to
your
Own domain name running a node js instance on your raspberry pi with lots
of options inbetween.
Possibly the easiest way to get a wiki online at the moment is the just
announced tiddlyhost. https://tiddlyhost.com/

[tw5] Making zoomin story view scroll to the top of the tiddler

2021-03-20 Thread Soren Bjornstad
Hi all,

I've been considering using the zoomin story view for *Grok TiddlyWiki *to
make life easier for people who aren't used to scrolling through a bunch of
different tiddlers, but have noticed that when I click on a link within a
tiddler, the browser doesn't scroll to the top of the newly opened tiddler.
Given that sections consist of a number of tiddlers transcluded together,
they are often larger than the screen, so I suspect this is enough to
cancel out any benefit in behavior standardization.

Is there an easy way to adjust the scroll when using *zoomin*? I'm not in
the mood to dive into rendering JavaScript today, but perhaps someone else
has done this before.

[tw5] Re: a filter question: two fields has value then NO else YES

2021-03-20 Thread Mohammad Rahmani
One solution I came up with is as below.

Note here the two fields are name (fone) and colorsheme (ftwo)

\define tmpTid() myTiddler

<$vars disabled={} >
<$button actions=<> disabled=<>>Create

This is an *ugly *solution! I am looking for a simpler, more semantic and
easy to follow!

Note ii: the button is working if two fields are not empty at the same time!

Best wishes
Mohammad

*Question*: There is a tiddler say myTiddler, a button shall be visible if
and only if both fields of fone and ftwo have non empty values

I know this can be done using two $list widgets but I am looking for a
simpler more semantic solution!

@flohit Are you referring to GraphViz? I'm not sure if you are asking
how to use it, or if you are just curious about how I use it specifically.
To learn the syntax just look at the usage and readme tabs on the plugin
page.

@Soren Its been a while since I tried it, but IIR there was a bug where
graphs would randomly get rendered at the bottom of the screen, outside of
any tiddler. I can't remember more detail than that though. Thanks for
sharing your fix for the text-cut-off bug, and maybe I will try out one of
the updated forks at some point.

2021-03-20 Thread Soren Bjornstad
Si, if you have a folder wiki handy, you can clone one of those
repositories directly into its plugins/ subdirectory and reload the server,
and it'll show up in the "Plugins" tab. You can then drag it from there
into whatever wiki you like.

This quick demo that I posted a while back might be of interest:
https://groups.google.com/g/tiddlywiki/c/ueeaCHA7hI0/m/2Ujwl1TABAAJ

If you run TiddlyWiki on node.js, the image can be externalised at the same
time as it's pasted and imported as well.

2021-03-20 Thread si
@flohit I just use it every so often when I need to add a little image of a
graph. For example say I had a tiddler on the Konigsber bridge problem
,

I might use graph-viz to illustrate various related concepts.

I don't think you can embed links with GraphViz (I don't know for sure
though). If I want to map out tiddler relationships I would use TiddlyMap
, which is much better suited for this IMO.

@R^2 See my reply to Soren - it's been a while since I tried the mermaid
plugin so I don't remember the exact details. I was going to try out one of
those forks, but then I realised that I have no idea how to get a plugin

Thanks Julio, I had not heard of UML before.

In case anyone else is looking I have found that there is a plugin for
graphviz: https://chanilino.github.io/tw5viz/tw5.html

The syntax is not as streamlined as mermaid, and it is a bit slow to
render, but it does the job.

Re: [tw5] Re: Draggable table rows - how?

2021-03-20 Thread Mohammad Rahmani
Mat,
I believe list-links-draggable is not a good choice! You need to use the
$draggable widget directly! I remember Eric has several good examples and
some good solutions (in reply to questions in this forum!) to start with.

Note: You may also use div with display:table, or display:table-row and
display:table-cell.

[tw5] Re: Reducing the friction of using images

2021-03-20 Thread Sebastián Ortega
Some context to understand my use case: I have my wiki hosted in some
server and password-protected with basic HTTP authentication because it's a
private wiki. To avoid bloating it with images I lazy-load them at the
moment but I plan having a script externalizing the images automatically to
a URL available in the same server with the same credentials.

What it would be really nice to me is to be able to paste images without so
many steps.

. Here is one method:

.aaa {text-align:center}

[tw5] Re: Draggable table rows - how?

2021-03-20 Thread Mat
Posted a request for this
. Givet it a thumbs
up if you support it.

I think it makes sense because the current "draggable" macros only treat
single titles, not complex rows, which is very limiting. And lists with
complex rows are a huge deal in TW.

[tw5] Re: Reducing the friction of using images

2021-03-20 Thread
To expand on this, it bears noting that the import feature (and
_canonical_uri:) are only worthwhile if the images require some advanced TW
function such as tagging. For basic use, there is already much less
friction as nothing more than a simple link is needed.

Here's how I currently approach images that don't need tagging (as a
TiddlyDesktop user using TW as a personal information manager):

I have subfolders for images in my source folder — for instance
/img-inventory for photos of items I keep track of via TW.
So when in need of having an image in my "Old painting 1" tiddler for
instance, I can simply save oldpainting1.jpeg in /img-inventory, and then
add [img [./img-inventory/oldpainting1.jpeg]] somewhere in the tiddler,
which takes virtually no time at all as I'll typically be cloning a similar
inventory tiddler and will just change the file name. A custom stamp could
be used here too. And to make this even faster, this is batchable and the
names could be very well be sequential (0001.jpeg...).

Hope this helps.

[tw5] how to center an image?

2021-03-20 Thread seven smith

How do you center a single image in a tiddler? (while the rest of the text
is left aligned). Only managed to find entries for text and tables when it
came to center alignment.

Thank you for your time.

[tw5] Re: Are there any alternatives to the mermaid.js plugin?

2021-03-20 Thread
What's buggy about the mermaid.js plugin? I'm discovering this and it seems
like a great library!

As Søren mentioned, there's are two forks that are updated to v8.84, which
isn't too far off (https://github.com/cedarvera/mermaid-tw5 &
https://github.com/jceb/mermaid-tw5).

[tw5] Re: Reducing the friction of using images

2021-03-20 Thread
This is of course of those things where Tiddlywiki is inferior to Evernote
and its ilk.

I would also love to see some improvement on that end and I believe I quit
expanding my use of TW for over a year in part over this. I eventually came
back of course, not the least because I love that feeling of being able to
tinker around in a somewhat boundless universe. I don't do Minecraft but I
get the feeling that the kick is the same, except that TW actually serves
one's purposes. There's friction of course, but no straitjacket *à la*
Evernote, and over time, I mostly got over my need for single-use images.
I'm now mostly into external linking as per recommendations: I have an
external folder with images and use _canonical_uri: to link back. There's
even more friction involved (paste image to folder, rename image, create
tiddler with _canonical_uri: pointing to the image, import image tiddler to
new tiddler) but at least I'm not bloating my TW. I'm also pretty sure this
could be easily partly automated with an external macro recorder
(atbswp/Autohotkey...). Not as neat, but maybe also something to look into?
