[tw] upgrading TWclassic to TW5beta: no love

2014-02-17 Thread packetlevel
I've been using TWfor many years and upgraded many times. However I've been
unsuccessful upgrading by any means available to the current beta.

Unless there is an alternative step-by-step instruction, it sounds like I
should just leave well enough alone until it's released.
For what it's worth, to provide the information here, this is a completely
plain TW that I have been saving into with tiddlysnip for some years, it
probably has 500+ tiddlers.

I applaud and appreciate the move to modernization and generalization. But,
I'm going to need to use what I have for the time being I'm afraid since
it's my 'daily bread'.

I look forward to trying it again when the stable release is out.

[tw] Re: upgrading TWclassic to TW5beta: no love

2014-02-17 Thread packetlevel
Thanks so much for the reply -
You should be able to open a new, empty TW5 and then drag-and-drop an
existing TWC file, which will copy the tiddlers into the new file - yes,
and after about 5 min of nothing and FF 27 completely locking up I force
quit it. The second time, with FF16 (last one that works with tiddlysnip),
another 5 min with no apparent action, my stuff appeared in the previous
original skin. However have been unable to save and have it open as an html
file.

To backtrack just a bit to try to provide useful info about my results so
far:
mid 2011 MB pro, OSX 10.8.5
Existing TWC 2.8.1

Using FF21 (the last one that does not kill TS for my FF16):
- TW5 download button does not work
- go to http://tiddlywiki.com/empty.html, save empty.html file - it opens
as a text file no matter what
- online converter does not work - no activity
- rt click on url http://tiddlywiki.com/empty.html, save, open saved empty
file, drop in TWC, FF paralyzed for 5 min.
- - comes up with content in new skin
- - won't local save, rt click
- - - won't follow links in save as dialogue, won't move up/down folder
structure to save in particular location
- - - save as foo.html.part
- - - some new skin, old standard skin gone.
- - - have not explored the saved file much - don't know how much of the
previous file is there or correct.

Safari:
- online upgrade doesn't work
- rt click on url http://tiddlywiki.com/empty.html, save, open saved empty,
drop in TWC
- - safara paralyzed 5 min
- - comes up with content in new skin
- - won't local save, rt click, save as 'unknown'
- - - won't follow links in save as dialogue, won't move up/down folder
structure to save in particular location
- - - saved as foo.html
- - - opens in new skin, old standard skin gone.
- - - have not explored the saved file much - don't know how much of the
previous file is there or correct.

Hope this helps -
As I'm teaching full time and a half, not much time for beta testing, but
will forward any info I have.

Feature request: TW5 incorporate Tiddlysnip; the single most useful feature
about tiddlywikis I have found over the last 6 years.

[tw] Re: TiddlySnip and Firefox 17 (with TiddlyFox)

2013-10-05 Thread packetlevel
Second that - 17 and up (now 24 and counting) Tiddlysnip doesn't work.
Really wish I was a coder - and as I've said before I'd /love/ to pay for a
working version, as I suspect many others would.

Any ideas / workarounds would be much appreciated by me and my students.

Cheers,

John

[tw] Re: Not able to save with Safari

2013-06-24 Thread packetlevel
I was just coming here to report that the latest update to Safari, as well
as update to Firefox - v21 both have eliminated saving. Backing off the
version restores saving - Safari and FF are both broken for TW right now -
snip

I am now unable to save TWs running in Safari.

[tw] Upgrading from 2.6.1 and 2.6.2 to 2.7.1 - successful method notes

2013-05-17 Thread packetlevel
Upgrading from 2.6.1 and 2.6.2 to 2.7.1 - successful method notes

Greetings all -
Thanks so much for all the great work from so many that made TW the main
class page of all my classes. I recently found I'd not updated in a while
and it might not work. I have at least one TW for each class. I see others
here had that problem, so I'm making a new post in hopes my notes may help
others.

I recently upgraded about 20 TWs from 2.6.1 and 2.6.2 to 2.7.1
Went through some hoops - took notes so I can remember when I find more to
upgrade - here they are, YMMV, hope this helps:

tiddly wiki upgrade notes

macbook pro 2011 current OS FF v12

** Seems core upgrades or tiddler imports may not work unless both TWs are
at root level, or only 1 folder in, and in same folder. Many of my TWs are
6 folders deep - that could be it.
I've seen this previously with upgrades/imports of other versions, so I'm
working at desktop level here.

test
- 6.2 6.3 won’t upgrade directly to 2.7.1
- 2.7.1 won't import from 2.6.2 or 3
- got the v 2.6.3 2.6.4 from TW archive
- got 6.2 to export (using import) to 6.3, then import to 6.4 in the same
folder at root level
- would /not/ import to 2.6.5 hmmm
- BUT 2.6.4 upgraded to 2.7.1 when in the same folder at root level
- upgraded TW tested ok
- discovered I can import to 2.6.4 directly and skip one step
- tested with 2.6.2 and 2.6.1 TWs direct to 2.6.4
end test
-

current upgrade method:
(worked with versions as far back as 2.6.1)

1 copy old file to root folder
2 put copy of 264 next to it
3 import to 264 from old file
4 then upgrade core of 264 to 271 and rename
5 move back to home folder, make a copy as backup, keep original file in
case (belt and suspenders)
6 test

Cheers -

[tw] Re: How to upgrade TWClassic manually

2013-05-17 Thread packetlevel
Right - have used that in the past, and kinda forgot about it - But - I
really was curious about the step by step import and seeing which versions
might of might not import, anyway - science is fun. Thanks -

Now I have to search here about getting the singlepagemodeplugin to work -
not being much of a programmer myself.

Cheers -

[tw] Importing tiddlers based on date or tag

2011-10-28 Thread packetlevel
I'm trying to get two TWs w/ about 1000 tiddlers in sync, so I can use
just the one.
aside - importing seems to only work at all if they're sitting next to
each other in the same dirrectory.

if I select all tiddlers, many will be overwritten, which I wouldn't
mind, but the popup goes down off the screen, and I can't scroll down
to say OK.

if there was a way to select the last 6 months additions, or select by
tag, then I'd do that.

Any suggestions appreciated - anything to avoid going one by one
through 1000 tiddlers.

Regards,

John

[tw] Bug Report: tw2.6.2 randomly adds html code to tiddlers

2011-05-26 Thread packetlevel
I'm finding things like: spanspanspanspanspan
a style=cursor: pointer;a style=cursor: pointer;a
style=cursor: pointer;a style=cursor: pointer;a style=cursor:
pointer; /a/a/a/a/a /span/span/span/span/span
added to my tiddlers more or less randomly -
Details: FF 3.6.17 OSX 10.6.7 I often create them in text editor -
plain text - then paste in, and later double click and add more notes.
I also use TiddlySnip (greatest thing since TW). I use ctrlsh enter
to keep the date the same a lot. Started seeing this a few months ago.
I see no pattern to the additions, sometimes yes, sometimes no,
sometimes a lot of cruft, sometimes just a bit. Not sure if it's
affecting the presentation but it makes it a pain to edit/add info
later. Annoying.

Any suggestions?

TIA

[tw] TiddlySnip - the greatest or - something else?

2010-03-11 Thread packetlevel
Greetings -

I've found that TiddlySnip is the most used thing about TW's for me -
grabbing things from the net and putting them into my basic TW, then
being able to find them next semester for the class I'm teaching then.
But - it's not been supported for a while. Is there any other add-on
that does the same thing? Or at least can I hope that someone might
take up the charge to keep TS up to date - I wish I could, but I'm not
a coder.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

[tw] Firefox Mac Save allow deny can't remember decision

2009-08-15 Thread packetlevel

Greetings -

For a while now, in current Mac OS, current Firefox with the current
TW version, I've been getting allow deny like bloody M$ app and
check remember this decision, of course, just like internet exploder,
is just a decoration. As soon as that window is closed, and the TW
opened again, it's the same thing all over again.

I don't think I've overlooked anything in FF settings - but this is
driving me nuts - I feel like I'm in a PC/Mac commercial Allow /
deny - allow deny fooey -

Any hints appreciated -

Thanks very much in advance.
