My feelings exactly, I would have done the same except that (1) I already have a Tbolt, and I had so many messages, that I (2) started in the middle of the flood... [time-nuts] Low profile coax connector?
After digging through boxes tonight, I found a few leftover bits from when I did some work for Trimble, in particular a couple of antennas from their early handheld units that I'll like to try out with a Jupiter board. I thought the connector was a Hirose H.FL (3mm tall) male, but I found some samples of those in the box and the grounding ring of the female is the same diameter as the H.FL male. Close, but no cigar as they say. It's also close to the Tyco OSMT/SSMT series, but the body has a corner bevel instead of the Tyco side bevel. Anyone know what the connector is? If not, I may just replace it with the H.FL or something a little larger. Hi Brian, I found my manuals for the 5085A. I have 2 of them. One is for series 604 and the other is for series 624. The 604 one has back dating info for series 524. Re: [time-nuts] Thunderbolt Group Buy, part 1
Before you get all angry, consider how most people view the list: IN LINEAR ORDER OF MESSAGES SENT! They see TVB's message about a new supply of Thunderbolts, and quickly post a message saying: "me too!" It isn't until it's too late that they see the message saying that there is no list, and don't bug the group (or TAPR) with requests for cheap GPSDO's. The real problem is TVB shouldn't have made the announcement until TAPR was ready to deal with taking orders. (Can you blame him for being excited?) And, I don't think there is any cause for you to insult list members and call them cheapskates. They just want in on what turned out to be a much better deal than was ever contemplated. Remember the earlier deal was for several hundred dollars each. Wow. An Acutime model bc637PCI? We didn't ship a Palisade version. That's reaching back a ways. Anyway, it's functionally the same as the more modern ace versions. There are a few linux refclock drivers for these around. IIRC, one is based on datum vme (refclock 16?). The SyncServer S100 that I created a few years ago was actually a headless 1U x86 computer with a bc637PCI and a modem plugged into it, running linux and ntp with refclock drivers along with a web server for control. Re: [time-nuts] Fast frequency counting question
Now we have gotten to the crux of the matter. You have to decide on one of two approaches: 1. The zero crossing is what is to be measured. In this case, you have to retain all harmonics. You cannot use most of the traditional frequency counting techniques. You must sample the zero crossing directly in the full bandwidth of the digital signal. The digital signal will have some phase noise floor. This noise floor, over the measurement bandwidth, will imply some jitter number by itself. For example, -150 dBc/Hz is equivalent to several ps of jitter. You have to take a huge number of samples for two reasons: First, only a few samples will be near a zero crossing. Second, you have to average away the jitter. 2. The phase noise model: a carrier with phase modulation noise. In this case you bandpass filter the signal to be measured. This gets rid of harmonics, producing a sine wave and also gets rid of the phase noise floor. You can now measure phase vs time and characterize your chirp. The bandpass has to be able to pass enough bandwidth to capture the chirp sidebands. For this approach, you can use the many known techniques of frequency measurement. Re: [time-nuts] Datum/Symmetricom BC637PCI Time and FrequencyProcessor
Nigel, I've just had a look in the boxes with assorted software in, and not found them yet - sorry. I know I've got them somewhere! Will take another look later today or Wednesday. Tom, Others have replied with better prose, but allow me to offer my thanks as well. Having missed the opportunity to pre-order, I certainly do want one! Nigel, I have some CDs in the store room, which Datum produced which have all their driver software on. I know they are in there somewhere, but since moving the last time (domestic split!), I haven't had a chance to sort through a lot of this stuff. Will try to take a look over the next couple of days, and if they are still there, then I'll send it over. Rob -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 06 May 2008 00:35 To: time-nuts@febo.com Subject: [time-nuts] Datum/Symmetricom BC637PCI Time and Frequency Processor Hi All I've just bought a Datum BC637PCI Time and Frequency Processor on a PCI card from the usual place, model BC635PCI is identical but without the onboard GPS receiver, and am looking for any Windows drivers and/or the basic control software. I've found the manual and other documentation online, also documentation for the very similar Symmetricom BC637PCI_U that replaced it, but cannot find the drivers or software for either. The original Datum config and demo program was BC635CPP.exe, and TRAYTIMECPP.exe was a system clock utility. Symmetricom continued to supply Bc635cpp.exe with the BC637PCI_U but the clock utility was now named TrayTime.exe and there was also some GPS demo software called bc637PCI GPS Demo. I have 7 days after receipt to determine if all is working ok so if anyone can help, particularly with a copy of BC635CPP.exe, I'd be very grateful. regards Nigel GM8PZR ___ time-nuts mailing list -- time-nuts@febo.com To unsubscribe, go to https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts and follow the instructions there. ___ time-nuts mailing list -- time-nuts@febo.com To unsubscribe, go to https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts and follow the instructions there.
