Tomcat 4.0.3 SSL - no yellow lock in IE6

2002-04-09 Thread Gary McGowan

Hi Guys

I have TC 4.0.3 with its SSL enabled on port 443, but I cannot get the
little yellow lock to display on IE6.

For example - if i look at https://mydomain.com the lock doesn't appear, but
if I double click where the lock should be I get the certificate
information. BUT if I am browsing a directory on the server (I have
directory browsing enabled) - the lock appears!

Anyone have any ideas?? - All would be greatly appreciated.

In my server.xml file I have:

Connector className=org.apache.catalina.connector.http.HttpConnector
   port=443 minProcessors=5 maxProcessors=75
   enableLookups=true
acceptCount=10 debug=0 scheme=https secure=true
  Factory className=org.apache.catalina.net.SSLServerSocketFactory
   clientAuth=false protocol=TLS/
/Connector

Thanks folks!

HSQLDB JDBCRealm

2002-04-09 Thread Knight, Digby

Hi,

I'm trying to get HSQLDB (1.6) working as the database behind the JDBCRealm,
and have got most of the way there, but I seem to have a problem setting the
username and password for when Tomcat connects to the database, and I'm
getting a 'Cannot find user' error message as Tomcat loads. It's definitely
finding the database and the hsqldb.jar.

I've tried appending user=xxxpassword=yyy to the end of the URL, but then
Tomcat can't find the database.properties file.

I suspect that I need to put the username and password into a properties
file (maybe), but can anyone tell me what I need to do, since trial and
error on this one is taking a lot of time.

Many thanks.

Dig

all my web pages will be in jsps (to use include). Should I still use Apache
in front of TOMCAT? won't it be better to use tomcat only in my
case?(although I will still use images and other medias) I think coming
through apache and talking to tomcat via a connector is more pricey in my
case...

and also..

if i choose to use tomcat only.. (stand-alone).. can i use name virtual
host?? It seems like Host tag in server.xml is for that purpose.. but
there's very vew documentations on how to configure server.xml file for
tomcat-stand alone + name virtual host..

I have ISA server to block all 8080 http requests coming from the Internet, but

Hi,
I'm using Tomcat 4.03 on win2000 server(sp2) and IIS 5.0
Tomcat seems to work fine (mysite.com:8080) but I can't get jk_nt_service to
work.
I have disabled tomcat.exe in my services and restarted the server, but the
service doesn't start. My operating system is in swedish but this is an
error I found in this group that looks like it:
***
A system error has occurred.
System error 1067 has occurred.
The process terminated unexpectedly.

I couldn't find an answer to the old message so I ask again. Why can't I
have this service started. Just to see that it wasn't my server that was
messed up, I installed tomcat on win2000 prof (sp2) with default IIS and it
generates the same error.

If I try to start the service in the Command Prompt (jk_nt_service -s
Tomcat) and it generates this error:
*
Asked (and given) winsoc
Starting Tomcat.
Tomcat failed to start.
*

The service is started by following command: jk_nt_service.exe Tomcat in
win2000 services.
If I try that in the Command Promt I get the following error:

Asked (and given) winsock 1.1
Error: StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed.

Can it have to do with spaces in my tomcat installation dir. d:\Java\Apache

Thanx for any help,

System.out disappears in filter wrapping

2002-04-09 Thread lloyd . colling

Hi all,

I'm trying to fiddle about a bit with filters in Tomcat 4.0.3 connected to Apache
1.3.19 using mod_webapp. The connection is fine, as other servlets and jsp's are
continuing to run perfectly fine.

I have a filter that takes a servlet request/reponse pair and wraps the request
using a HttpServletRequestWrapper. That HttpServletRequestWrapper re-implements the
getParameter(String s) method. The first line in this new getParameter() is a
System.out.println that echoes the parameter being requested (for debugging
purposes). However, that println never seems to appear, either in the catalina.out
or on the console when run using the 'run' rather than the 'start' command.

The reason for wanting to do that debugging is that the wrapper is there to provide
a layer over a servlet. The servlet performs certain activities based on a single
request parameter. To provide a simple interface, filters are being used to allow
different methods of specifying what to perform, so each filter looks at a separate
parameter, and returns an appropriate value when the original parameter is request
- The servlet asks for parameter 'x', so the wrapper looks at parameter 'y' and
returns an appropriate value for x. The problem was that the modifications from 'y'
were never returned, so I wanted to check that the new method was being called.

Can anyone give me a reason why this System.out line is disappearing into the
ether?

Thanks all,

Lloyd Colling

RE: NullPointerException when using JDBC ResultSet next() method

2002-04-09 Thread Jon Wingfield

Maybe reading the code wrong but you're declaring the variable rs on the
third line of doGet(...) but putting the return value of the
stmt.executeQuery() in a variable called rset. Then you call next() on the
original variable, which is null ;)

A few other points:
You are definately loading the driver otherwise a ClassNotFoundException
would be thrown from Class.forName(...). You also would not have been able
to get a Connection or prepare a Statement object.
Mixing application logic and presentation code in a servlet can lead to a
maintenance nightmare. You can use custom jsp iterator tags to separate out
the application code. We use these a lot ;)
Also, from a maintenance point of view you may want to encapsulate the
database connection/sql generation code into domain specific classes. The
connection parameters and, possibly, the sql could then be placed in
configuration files. Makes changing database easy ;)

Hope this helps,
Jon

The stack trace says that your NullPointer occurs on line 45, but line
45 is blank. Is there some more code that you didn't ost? Import
statements, perhaps?

I think it probably happened here:

stmt = con.createStatement();

-IE: You were not able to get a Connection, con is null and calling its
methods will give you the NullPointer. Are you sure the driver loaded
properly?

 Strange... if you have example webapp then you should have this class
 as well.

 Look at http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs/jakarta-tomcat-4.0/
 and browse to webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes/filters

 The class is there.

 with best wishes,
 Taavi

  I could not find the specified class anywhere in the tomcat home
 folder.
  Do i need to download something else for this class??

Tomcat4 / OpenLDAP - Encrypted connectionPassword in JNDI Realm (server.xml) - Please Help

2002-04-09 Thread Jeremy Prellwitz

Hi all,

  i searched the archives but could not come up with an answer for this.

I have everything working for LDAP authentication on my server, and i've
figured out how to include non plain text passwords everywhere except for
the connectionPassword attribute of the Realm tag in the
$CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml file. I would like to replace the
MY_CURRENT_PLAIN_TEXT_PASSWORD string with an encrypted password for this
configuration file, as everyone knows, this is otherwise a pretty good
security hole.

   Realm className=org.apache.catalina.realm.JNDIRealm debug=99
connectionName=cn=root,dc=MYDOMAIN,dc=ca
connectionPassword=MY_CURRENT_PLAIN_TEXT_PASSWORD
 connectionURL=ldap://MYHOST:389;
  roleBase=dc=roles,dc=MYDOMAIN,dc=ca
  roleName=cn
roleSearch=(uniqueMember={0})
   roleSubtree=false
digest=SHA
  userPassword=userPassword
   userPattern=uid={0},dc=MYDOMAIN,dc=ca
  /

I've tried using this : java org.apache.catalina.realm.RealmBase -a
{algorithm} {cleartext-password}, which is what i used to enter my passwords
into my OpenLDAP server, but with this you specify the encryption algorithm
with the digest attribute.

Please help. How do i specify the algorithm and encrypted password for the
connectionPassword attribute; and if you would..which tool do i use to
create this password?

Thanks a million!!!

OT: Question to hardware requirements

2002-04-09 Thread Andreas Schlegel

Hi,

I have a question to some experienced servlet or Tomcat users.
I need to know what may be the hardware requirements (RAM, Mhz, how many
disks ...) for the application as described below.

The features of the application are the following:
- lightweight HTML pages (no images)
- frames (we need to rebuild only a part of a page)
- every page has a HTML form with about 10 input fields
- no script language on the client (so we have a lot of trafic between
client and server for validating)
- every request calls also the database
- database connection pooling
- java server uses session handling
- XML tier, JDOM, XML to HTML transformation
- jdk 1.3

We are expect about 20 hard working users.
The server should use Linux, Postgres, Apache, Tomcat and has to fulfill
the only task to support this application.

Second question: is it necessary to install the Tomcat addin for Apache
or could Tomcat fulfill this task without Apache?

Greetings,
Andreas

 Hi,
 I'm using Tomcat 4.03 on win2000 server(sp2) and IIS 5.0
 Tomcat seems to work fine (mysite.com:8080) but I can't get
 jk_nt_service to work.
 I have disabled tomcat.exe in my services and restarted the
 server, but the service doesn't start. My operating system is
 in swedish but this is an error I found in this group that
 looks like it:
 ***
 A system error has occurred.
 System error 1067 has occurred.
 The process terminated unexpectedly.
 ***
 I couldn't find an answer to the old message so I ask again.
 Why can't I have this service started. Just to see that it
 wasn't my server that was messed up, I installed tomcat on
 win2000 prof (sp2) with default IIS and it generates the same error.

 If I try to start the service in the Command Prompt
 (jk_nt_service -s Tomcat) and it generates this error:
 *
 Asked (and given) winsoc
 Starting Tomcat.
 Tomcat failed to start.
 *

 The service is started by following command:
 jk_nt_service.exe Tomcat in win2000 services.
 If I try that in the Command Promt I get the following error:

 Asked (and given) winsock 1.1
 Error: StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed.
 ***

 Can it have to do with spaces in my tomcat installation dir.
 d:\Java\Apache Tomcat 4.0 ?

 Thanx for any help,

My problem exactly. I don't know if it is just Tru64 UNIX or others have the same

Tru64.

The message Lee reported on the bottom is from Catalina and it simply states that the
startup parameters were wrong. What must be added is -config
${CATALINA_HOME}/conf/server.xml. For some reason, it must be explicitely stated on
startup. So, on 4.03 I had to edit startup.sh line into this:

exec $PRGDIR/$EXECUTABLE start -config ${CATALINA_HOME}/conf/server.xml

Is org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina supposed to look around for it's config file
if not specifically stated on command line?

Nix.

Re: jk_nt_service fails (error 1067)

2002-04-09 Thread Alexander Höglind

Hi,
I'm using Tomcat 4.03 and this is what I found at the end of the file,
*
#wrapper.cmd_line=$(wrapper.javabin)
-Djava.security.policy==$(wrapper.tomcat_policy)
-Dtomcat.home=$(wrapper.tomcat_home) -classpath $(wrapper.class_path)
$(wrapper.startup_class) -config $(wrapper.server_xml)

wrapper.cmd_line=$(wrapper.javabin) -Xrs
-Djava.security.policy==$(wrapper.tomcat_policy)
-Dtomcat.home=$(wrapper.tomcat_home) -classpath $(wrapper.class_path)
$(wrapper.startup_class) -config $(wrapper.server_xml) start
*

Soo it seems like it is already fixed by default.

Thanx,
Alexander

Hi,

Have you looked in %TOMCAT_HOME%\logs\jvm.stderr? This message looks
familiar. There appears to be an issue with the wrapper.properties file
(the one you should specify as a command-line argument to jk_nt_service.exe)
in that the property wrapper.jvm.options is not being read properly.
Either remove this from the wrapper.cmd_line (found at the end of the file)
or set wrapper.jvm.options=-Xrs. This issue is actually documented
somewhere in the mailing list, which makes a case for better documentation
for Tomcat.

Hi,
I'm using Tomcat 4.03 on win2000 server(sp2) and IIS 5.0
Tomcat seems to work fine (mysite.com:8080) but I can't get jk_nt_service to
work.
I have disabled tomcat.exe in my services and restarted the server, but the
service doesn't start. My operating system is in swedish but this is an
error I found in this group that looks like it:
***
A system error has occurred.
System error 1067 has occurred.
The process terminated unexpectedly.
***

Can it have to do with spaces in my tomcat installation dir. d:\Java\Apache
Tomcat 4.0 ?

Thanx for any help,

RE: jk_nt_service fails (error 1067)

2002-04-09 Thread Larry Isaacs

Elsewhere in wrappers.properties two log files are defined.
Are these log files created? If not, it suggests that
jk_nt_service is not finding the wrapper.properties or
maybe the wrapper.properties has some error that prevents
it from being processed (I have never seen such an error
though).

If the log files exist but don't contain any clues, I
would recommend manually building the wrapper.cmd_line
with all the substitutions and executing that in a DOS
prompt to see what happens. Hopefully it will reveal
the error the service is encountering with it tries
to execute this command.

Cheers,
Larry

Apache says 'httpd: module mod_jk.c is not compatible with this
version of Apache.'

If I try to build the version from source - There isn't an apache2
version in the source
distro of Tomcat 3.3.1

Help

RE: setProperty

This is specified behavior. Section JSP.4.2 of the
JSP 1.2 spec states for the property attribute of
jsp:setProperty ...:

The name of the Bean property whose value you want to set.
If you set propertyName to * then the tag will iterate over
the current ServletRequest parameters, matching parameter
names and value type(s) to property names and setter
method type(s), setting each matched property to the value
of the matching parameter. If a parameter has a value of ,
the corresponding property is not modified.

RE: integrating TOMCAT 4.0 with APACHE 2.0 - or Tomcat 3.3.1

2002-04-09 Thread Larry Isaacs

The API to Apache 2 is very different from Apache 1.3.x. It was
also evolving, so it wasn't practical to include a working Apache 2
connector in Tomcat 3.3.x, or Tomcat 4.x for that matter.
The mod_jk-3.3-ap20.so is likely a version that Henri Gomez built
a while ago, and is probably out of date with respect to the current
Apache 2.

Work on a mod_jk, actually mod_jk2, connector for Tomcat 3.3.x
and Tomcat 4.x is being actively worked on as part of the
jakarta-tomcat-connectors project. You can check the mail archives
of tomcat-dev to see what is being done. The mod_jk2 for Apache 2
appears within the jakarta-tomcat-connectors repository under
jk/native2 directory.

Cheers,
Larry

 If I try to build the version from source - There isn't an apache2

Well i had the same pb on SOLARIS 8 after i made some modifications...

I was workin' under root, to have my installations achieved, and obviously with
/bin/sh shell...

As i like the completion and other stuff, i used the ENV=$HOME/.kshrc; export
ENV features to get some
special features when enter an exec ksh.

In this .kshrc i had an echo New Shell : $0, just to know where i am.

I tried then to have my mod_webapp compiled and had the error yu mentionned.

I investigated:

When yu launch the webapp/support/buildconf.sh

if [ -f ./apr/buildconf ]
then
echo --- Running the \buildconf\ script for APR
( cd ./apr
sh ./buildconf
)

The script looks for webapp/apr/buildconf and if true, generates a child
process () and executes a sh ./buildconf

The first thing is done is to make an sh of apr/biuld/biuldconf.sh

and in this third fiel yu have :
ac_version=`autoconf --version 2/dev/null|head -1|sed -e 's/^[^0-9]*//' -e
's/[a-z]* *$//'`

The head -1 says to bind the sed to the first line of the `autoconf
--version`
In My case, the first line was the echoed cmd of my .kshrc file, cause i was
under ksh !

ksh# New Shell -ksh
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.52

So try to trace this file and yu'll get it !

The best has to be to stay under /bin/sh

Hope this help,

encryption, there are 2 issues I see... 1. User - Authentication Page

Please help. How do i specify the algorithm and encrypted password for the

AW: mod_webapp build problem

2002-04-09 Thread Schulze Christian

I had the same Problem.

I'll forward you the answer which helped me ...

Hi Christian,

Sorry it tool so long to reply.

Yes I have installed mod_webapp correctly.

The biggest problem is the fact that hp-ux
does not keep zero length string in the shell memory. the configure script
script however perform a number of tests on string throughout the script.
By using a couple dozen echo statements the only place I found that I needed
to override the logic was near the bottom

your configure script should have something like this around line 2000 or so

if ${TEST} -z ${MODULE}
then
  echo $ac_terror 16
  { echo configure: error: No target module specified 12; exit 1; }
fi
echo $ac_t${MODULE} 16
CFGFILES=${CFGFILES} ./${MODULE}/Makefile

if ${TEST}  -z ${APR_VARFIL}

at least for me, at this point APR_VARFIL should not contain a value so I
change the if logic to

if ${TEST} -z ${MODULE}
then
  echo $ac_terror 16
  { echo configure: error: No target module specified 12; exit 1; }
fi
echo $ac_t${MODULE} 16
CFGFILES=${CFGFILES} ./${MODULE}/Makefile

APR_VARFIL=I am really empty

echo I have $MODULE and am using the hardcoded value for APR_VARFIL
if ${TEST}  -n ${APR_VARFIL}

The script will work.

you may have to make a change in the make file as well

somewhere along the line $(MFLG) gets set to b
which my make has trouble deal with

so in Makefile

change

template:
@ { \
$(ECHO)  ; \
$(MECHO) Entering directory \$(MDIR)\ ; \
cd $(MDIR) ; \
$(MECHO) Invoking \$(MAKE) $(MFLG) $(MTGT)\ ; \
$(MAKE) $(MFLG) $(MTGT); \
RET=$$? ; \
$(MECHO) Exiting directory \$(MDIR)\ ; \
cd $(SRCDIR) ; \
if test $${RET} != 0 ; then \
exit $${RET} ; \
fi ; \
}

to

template:
@ { \
$(ECHO)  ; \
$(MECHO) Entering directory \$(MDIR)\ ; \
cd $(MDIR) ; \

Well Arni (?)

First yu have a 4.0.2_Final which is the one i run under on My SOLARIS'
Servers which is the Final Rel.

Seconf, under conf the only file yu do have to worry about, at the beginning,
is the conf/server.xml.

Just run Tomcat under port 8080 and have a close look to the online doc.
It's really well done !

Hope this help :O)

Re: Please help me on a question about TOMCAT OR APACHE + TOMCAT

2002-04-09 Thread Michael Teter

Howdy.

I found a very useful document that describes in
simple terms how to set up Apache + (n * Tomcat) in
load-balancing fashion. That may be something to
consider just for flexibility.

I currently have mine configured with only one Tomcat,
so the load balancer isn't doing much for me, but it's
trivial for me to add another internal machine with
Tomcat and share the load.

http://www.ubeans.com/tomcat/index.html

Good luck.

RE: HTTP Tunnel (a response please????)

2002-04-09 Thread rsequeira

That's the way HTTP works. You browser connects to a web server when it
makes a request. And once it gets a response, it disconnects. The
connection, it creates, may be persistent (default with HTTP/1.1) though.
But servers generally timeout after being idle for sometime. So what you
are looking for in terms of consistent or persistent connections may not be
guaranteed this way. You should consider using sessions in your servlet or
jsp (that is if you just want to persist the user state) or maybe use
sockets (may run into firewall/security issues)

Altering content of BodyContent prior to JSP eval

2002-04-09 Thread Jeffrey Bonevich

How can I get at the content of BodyContent in a BodyTagSupport
subclass, alter that content, and then reinsert the content into the
body before it gets evaluated as JSP? Is this just just totally
anathema to JSP spec or something? Say that I have the following:

mytaglib:bodymunger value=lookup
   Place the stuff *** here
/mytaglib:bodymunger

Then in the BodymungerTag (extends BodyTagSupport) I want to lookup the
value of lookup, grab the body content, and replace the string ***
with that value. Say the value actually returns a string:
mytaglib:othertag/

Then I want that new content evaluated as JSP.

Is there any way to do this? Do I have to do it manually using Jspc or
something?

getInitParameter(someString) lets you access information in the web.xml
file. someString corresponds to the name of the param in the web.xml.

Note that there is are ServletContext and
ServletConfig implementations.

The ServletContext version could be used where you have values that
are shared across all of your servlets/jsps.

The ServletConfig allows you to have information that is specific to
a servlet or jsp.

RE: mod_webapp build problem

2002-04-09 Thread PELOQUIN,JEFFREY (Non-HP-Boise,ex1)

Depending on how your system is set up you will also need
the gnu tools
autoconf
m4
libtool

and if you go on to use APACHE SSL you will need
flex

HP has depots for autoconf and m4 at
http://hpdrdev.fc.hp.com/OpenSource/Tools/autoconf/autoconf.html

http://hpdrdev.fc.hp.com/OpenSource/Tools/m4/m4.html

libtool and flex as well as autoconf and m4 can be obtained at
http://www.gnu.org/ as tar files.

Below in the message from Christian, I make mention of a problem with the
letter b making it into the build commands.

I have not had a chance to check but I think it is from this line in the
apache/bin/apxs script

my $CFG_LDFLAGS_SHLIB = q(-b); # substituted via Makefile.tmpl

I would guess removinf the -b would fix the make problem

Also, one person I know of, has encounted a number of syntax errors with the
make scripts generated by the mod-webapp configure scripts.

This appears to be a system specific issue, as he gets the same problem when
I send him a tar of my src directory.

good luck

I had the same Problem.

I'll forward you the answer which helped me ...

Hi Christian,

Sorry it tool so long to reply.

Yes I have installed mod_webapp correctly.

The biggest problem is the fact that hp-ux
does not keep zero length string in the shell memory. the configure script
script however perform a number of tests on string throughout the script.
By using a couple dozen echo statements the only place I found that I needed
to override the logic was near the bottom

your configure script should have something like this around line 2000 or so

if ${TEST} -z ${MODULE}
then
  echo $ac_terror 16
  { echo configure: error: No target module specified 12; exit 1; }
fi
echo $ac_t${MODULE} 16
CFGFILES=${CFGFILES} ./${MODULE}/Makefile

if ${TEST}  -z ${APR_VARFIL}

at least for me, at this point APR_VARFIL should not contain a value so I
change the if logic to

if ${TEST} -z ${MODULE}
then
  echo $ac_terror 16
  { echo configure: error: No target module specified 12; exit 1; }
fi
echo $ac_t${MODULE} 16
CFGFILES=${CFGFILES} ./${MODULE}/Makefile

APR_VARFIL=I am really empty

echo I have $MODULE and am using the hardcoded value for APR_VARFIL
if ${TEST}  -n ${APR_VARFIL}

The script will work.

you may have to make a change in the make file as well

somewhere along the line $(MFLG) gets set to b
which my make has trouble deal with

so in Makefile

change

template:
@ { \
$(ECHO)  ; \
$(MECHO) Entering directory \$(MDIR)\ ; \
cd $(MDIR) ; \
$(MECHO) Invoking \$(MAKE) $(MFLG) $(MTGT)\ ; \
$(MAKE) $(MFLG) $(MTGT); \
RET=$$? ; \
$(MECHO) Exiting directory \$(MDIR)\ ; \
cd $(SRCDIR) ; \
if test $${RET} != 0 ; then \
exit $${RET} ; \
fi ; \
}

to

template:

RE: Adobe Acrobat

2002-04-09 Thread John Burgess

The two I know of are:
Acrobat Distiller -- £150 or so but with horrendous licensing costs for
using it in a web application
Zeon Docucom http://www.zeon.com.tw costs about $65 but the license seems
fine for use as part of a web app.

However, both are windows specific. Zeon has a demo version but it requires
you to press OK to a nag screen before each print.

 Or alternatively use a printer driver that produces pdf files (Adobe

the
 file produced. The other suggestions are probably neater and open source

Well first of all,

Go to yur server.xml file and change the debug=10 to debug=25.

Restart and have look in yur catalina.out; it 'll be much more verbose and
tell yu exactly which file is generating such this error.

Re: starting Tomcat 4.0.3 on Compaq Tru64 Unix

2002-04-09 Thread Dean Bennett

Its the $@ in the java calls. For some reason, Tru64 handles an empty
string as an argument differently and complains about it as an invalid
argument.

You can either pass an argument to the script ( -config works, as noted
below), or remove the $@ in all the java calls, which means that can
never pass in an argument. Or modify the source to ignore it.

Dean

   and catalina.out shows:

   usage: java org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina [
   -config {pathname} ] [ -debug ] [ -nonaming ] {
   start | stop }

My problem exactly. I don't know if it is just Tru64 UNIX or others have
the same problem, but either *startup.sh is broken* or there is something
messy with shells on Tru64.

The message Lee reported on the bottom is from Catalina and it simply
states that the startup parameters were wrong. What must be added is
-config ${CATALINA_HOME}/conf/server.xml. For some reason, it must be
explicitely stated on startup. So, on 4.03 I had to edit startup.sh line
into this:

exec $PRGDIR/$EXECUTABLE start -config ${CATALINA_HOME}/conf/server.xml

Is org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina supposed to look around for it's
config file if not specifically stated on command line?

Nix.

Ok... I'll bite... I've seen this error (or lack of it), when I get
errors with an incompatbile jndirealm and enabling jmx beans are you
getting any kind of errors at tomcat startup, or in your log files I
understand you say basically reload after and it works. I also ran
into this when I began testing Chiki, it seems that when I updated to
Tomcat 4.0.X the problem went away... So I didn't really try to fix it,
but upgraded past the issue...I hope this helps.. from a non-technical

RE: integrating TOMCAT 4.0 with APACHE 2.0 - or Tomcat 3.3.1

2002-04-09 Thread Williams Mark L DLPC

Copying an earlier response from Larry Isaacs; maybe you missed it... If I
read it right, sounds like it's premature to start trying to use Tomcat
w/Apache 2.

=

Cheers,
Larry

RE: integrating TOMCAT 4.0 with APACHE 2.0 - or Tomcat 3.3.1

2002-04-09 Thread Larry Isaacs

The Apache 2.0 connector I think is called mod_jk2 and is built
from the jk/native2 directory. The jk/native directory builds
mod_jk, which is an Apache 1.3 connector that won't work with
Apache 2.0.  I haven't done anything with mod_jk2 yet, so I can't
say whether the current mod_jk2 will satisfy your definition of
working.

Handle exceptions correctly

2002-04-09 Thread Raphael Di Cicco

Hi,

I used to handle exceptions quite weel within my JSP pages. This is what I
chose to do :
- always throw Exceptions inside my Java methods and don't catch them inside.
- don't do a try{} catch{} statement within my JSP pages.
- but include an error page so that errors get redirected there.

It used to work quite well but now whenever I get a small exception somewhere
in the code all I have is a message saying :

org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP}
catch (Throwable t) {
  ^
}
^
}
 ^
3 errors

at

The problem is that I don't know what I have changed in my code, not much. Do
you know what type of problems that can occur with this ?

Thanks for your help
