JSP problem

2003-09-10 Thread Michele Neylon:: Blacknight Solutions
Hi all

We ran into a rather odd problem earlier today. Tomcat stopped serving JSP,
though it continued to serve servlets. Stopping and restarting did not solve
the problem.
We 'solved' it by emptying the 'work' directory.
The setup is Apache 2 with Tomcat 4.1.24 connecting using mod_jk - virtual
hosts etc.

Any ideas would be appreciated, as our 'fix' might not last for very long

If you are looking for JDK you would need to look on sun.com
For Tomcat you'll find all the rpms on apache.org under the tomcat project

RH 7.1 is rather old. I would upgrade if at all possible.

That sounds like an interesting method. At the moment we have to manually
restart both. I was of the understanding that you needed to stop and start
Apache or else there would be problems with the JK2 connector. Did I miss

It is 'compatible' but only if you make your life really complicated as it
relies on the APR libraries which are native to Apache 2 not Apache 1.3*

For Apache 1.3* you should use mod_jk 1 series

If you look in the archive some links to tutorials were posted yesterday.
General consensus is to use mod_jk either v1 or v2

See the links mentioned. Basically you would be using an ajp13 or ajp14
handler to pass the requests from one to the other.

That would be nice. If anybody has a simple way of doing it please please

The same principles apply. Our rather imperfect server.xml has:

www.domain.com

Unlike mod_jk you don't need to add the mount points directly to
httpd.conf, so you create or edit workers2.properties to map the
JSP/Servlets to Tomcat.
I would never claim to be an expert in this, but my fumbling around and a
few queries to the list produced a working configuration - albeit imperfect.

The strange thing was that it was listening all the time :-(
I ran a netstat -an and it showed 8009 as listening.

Your HOWTO was very helpful too - thank you.
By combining part of your configuration with that from thinlizard.com I
finally managed to get it to work (almost!), but am still rather confused
about the workers2.properties

I followed instructions on the FreeBSD site to get a standard install
running - which was the easiest part of the process.

The server.xml seems to be okay and using your configuration Tomcat seems
quite happy now :-)

We managed to overcome that part of the problem :-)
We can now view the examples at:
http://lancelot.blacknightsolutions.com/examples

Part of the problem was more related to logfiles and other weird stuff not
being in their default locations under FreeBSD.
We are still a little confused with regards to mapping *.jsp files to
Tomcat, as:
http://lancelot.blacknightsolutions.com/test2.jsp?me
simply spits the output to the screen without processing it.

In workers2.properties we are using the following lines:
[uri:/examples/*]
worker=ajp13:lancelot.blacknightsolutions.com:8009
[uri:/*.jsp]
worker=ajp13:lancelot.blacknightsolutions.com:8009

The examples work fine, it's the other ones that seem to bork.
Any ideas or clear examples would be greatly appreciated.

JK2 - FreeBSD - Apache 2 on FreeBSD

2003-03-23 Thread Michele Neylon :: Blacknight Solutions
Hi all,

Following the instructions on
http://www.thinlizard.com/lizard/modjk2.html I was able to compile mod_jk2
(thank you!)

I've tried a number of variations of the jk2 configuration, but cannot get

I'm at a loss :-(
If anybody has any clear explanations/examples of the jk2 configuration I
would appreciate it (a lot!)

Thanks in advance,

This is part of my problem! It's not in the ROOT directory, but in a
virtual host.

No. With a previous configuration I could get to the Tomcat welcome page at:
http://www.blacknightsolutions.com:8080
I have since tried a different configuration, but although a copy of the
JSP examples (copied from the Tomcat/webapps/examples directory) is
accessible at:
http://www.blacknightsolutions.com/examples/jsp/
nothing else involving Java is viewable and some of the examples aren't
working either :-(

Tomcat seems to be intercepting requests for all .jsp pages, but doesn't
seem to be mapping them correctly..

Tomcat 4, mod_jk, Apache 1.3.20

2002-07-25 Thread Michele Neylon -Blacknight Solutions

Hi all,
I've been trying to configure Tomcat 4.0.4 with Apache 1.3.20 using mod_jk
on a Cobalt RAQ4.
The problem seems to be in my virtual hosts declarations in server.xml
Does anybody have an example of a server.xml configured for virtual hosts
on Linux?
At the moment:
http://www.blacknightsolutions.com/test.jsp
does not work, though
http://www.blacknightsolutions.com/examples/jsp/
does.
Tomcat is running quite happily on port 8080 :
http://www.blacknightsolutions.com:8080
I've already looked at:
http://www.galatea.com/flashguides/apache-tomcat-4-unix.xml
but am still having problems

Thanks for your time!

I already tried that, but it didn't work :-(
I would be just as happy to use mod_jk instead of mod_webapp.so , but that
isn't working properly either!
eg. http://www.blacknightsolutions.com/test.jsp
Although Tomcat is running it reports 404s on any jsp or servlets passed to
it. I tried to follow the instructions on integration at:
http://www.galatea.com/flashguides/apache-tomcat-4-unix.xml
but seem to be missing something... it's all very frustrating

Linux version is Cobalt 6.0:
kernel-reiserfs-utils-2.2.16C32_III-2
kernel-2.2.16C32_III-2
kernel-headers-2.2.16C32_III-2

I had to build mod_webapp.so myself, as none of the binaries would work at all.

Tomcat 4.0.4 on RAQ - mod_webapp

2002-07-23 Thread Michele Neylon -Blacknight Solutions

If anybody can help me fix this I would be extremely grateful!
I've been trying to setup Tomcat 4.0.4 with Apache 1.3.2
When I try to use the mod_webapp connector I get the following error:
Setting up Web Service: Syntax error on line 65 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/mod_webapp.so into server:
/etc/httpd/modules/mod_webapp.so: undefined symbol: pthread_sigmask

Any ideas no matter how crazy are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Webapp on RAQ4

2002-07-04 Thread Michele Neylon -Blacknight Solutions

Hi,
I've been trying to get Tomcat 4.0.4 to work with Apache 1.3.2 on a RAQ4.
Tomcat will work by itself, but I keep on getting errors with mod_webapp.so
no matter how I compile it.
The latest error is:
Setting up Web Service: Syntax error on line 54 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/mod_webapp.so into server:
/etc/httpd/modules/mod_webapp.so: undefined symbol: pthread_sigmask

Somebody pointed me in the direction of:
http:[EMAIL PROTECTED]%3E

but it does not seem to apply as I DO get a list of symbols.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
