Tomcat MySQL Run On Read-Only Media ..
I have a web application containing Servlets JSP pages and uses data on Oracle 9i Server. Data is like a product catalogue. I plan to periodically distribute this system (to people who do not have enough bandwidth to access to our LAN) on CDROM media which contains binaries of a JVM, Tomcat Server, Servlets JSPs and MySQL Server running with special parameters and data dumped into MySQL from Oracle. Is there anyone who accomplished this task?
RE: Tomcat MySQL Run On Read-Only Media ..
User will not install anything. I will put pre-installed directories of JVM, Tomcat and MySQL on the CD with a batch file that runs them with !some! parameters. Everything is up automatically Imagine? For example: \JDK \JDK\bin ... \Tomcat \Tomcat\bin ... \MySQL \MySQL\bin \DATA \webcontents AUTORUN.BAT (for Windows machines) is at the root of the CD. tomcat\bin\tomcat --some-parameters mysql\bin\mysqld-nt --some-parameters-that-open-only-specified-ini-file start \webcontent\StartMyAppUp.html... and so on -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, July 15, 2002 2:21 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Tomcat MySQL Run On Read-Only Media .. RE: Tomcat MySQL Run On Read-Only Media ..
Thanks for all the answers. Martin understood me very well. From now I am trying to construct what I said. If I can, I will write the solution.. Thank you again.. I was just saying 2 mails ago : Who cares about customers ?? Tomcat-user list is not a marketing list.. He just wants to know how he can get that thing running on cd. he probably had a good reason to ask for this solution.. My reamrks were made so it got back ON topic again.. Sorry about the grumpy attitude, just thought he was asking on how to do that, not how to market it and do customer surveys. Just precompile them.. 4) If you copy JDK, Tomcat MySQL files on the CD, will it work? In order to run they need : - DLLs in Windows system directories; - keys in Windows registry; - write access to some of their files... Use hsqldb instead which has a memory database.. 5) What about AUTOEXEC.BAT? It will do nothing if you put it on a CD : it needs to be in C:\, and there is already one there... ?? 6) What if your customers have problems running your CD? Will you create a hotline ;-) ? Not your problem I guess ;).. He was asking HOW not a project plan of things to resolve before hand.. TIP: Search the archives (maybe a year ago or something) there was a big thread about it, which actually worked towards a solution. RE: (Tomcat + JBoss) or (Apache + Tomcat + JBoss) ?
Is there anyone that installed (Apache + Tomcat + JBoss) combination all together? What are the advantages of Using Apache with Tomcat-JBoss combination or is Tomcat enough for complete web content serving? Should I run Apache with Tomcat + JBoss in a separate JVM? Tomcat + JBoss will give you a complete JEE server, with web interface. Apache can help you off-load serving static stuff from your Tomcat. The dynamic part: JSP, Servlets (EJB and other JBoss mechanisms) will not be served by Apache. It's ok. But I am just wondering that; Is it helpful that using Apache with (Tomcat + JBoss) combination? I mean serving the non-dynamic contents of a website through Apache instead of using the Tomcat's internal web server. And additionaly using the EJB container of JBoss and Web Container of Tomcat for non-static parts. Thus using all three products together on a single website? Any idea? Murat.
RE: (Tomcat + JBoss) or (Apache + Tomcat + JBoss) ?
Thank you for your answer. Can the JBoss EJB container be easily added to Tomcat + Apache (binded together with mod_jkxx) couple? if so how can we build-up for running all three..? As far as I know, Tomcat_JBoss couple bundled with together for enterprise usage. Can I integrate the Tomcat unit of this couple with Apache via mod_jkxx module? Thanks.. But I am just wondering that; Is it helpful that using Apache with (Tomcat + JBoss) combination? Functionality of Apache's HTTP/1.1 module and Tomcat's HTTP/1.1 is the same. The only difference is the performance of serving static objects. I mean serving the non-dynamic contents of a website through Apache instead of using the Tomcat's internal web server. If you can separate your static content from the dynamic parts, you can easily make such an arrangement. If not, then the only hope for you is mod_jk (mod_jk2 is still in testing). And additionaly using the EJB container of JBoss and Web Container of Tomcat for non-static parts. Thus using all three products together on a single website? The answer to this question largely depends on your website organization and purpose. It could be that you can run both Apache and Tomcat, side by side, without any integration. Apache would listen on TCP:80 and Tomcat on TCP:8080. The presentations on both servers would have explicit links, like this: http://www.domain.com:80/path/to/link.html http://www.doamin.com:8080/another/path/to/link.jsp If this looks ugly, you can try to integrate Tomcat under Apache, using mod_jk, mod_jk2 or mod_webapp. If you want Apache to serve static contenet belonging to your web application, then mod_jk is the way. Nix.

Off-Topic question..
Sorry for my Off-Topic question but I couldn't find a solution. I am reading news messages offline with Outlook Express and I have a problem; When I synchronized the news server and my local box Deleted/Outdated messages are also deleted from my local box. I want to preserve the old messages in my local box that even deleted on the news server. How can I preserve my old messages? or can you advise a newsreader that can preserve old messages? Thanks in advance, Murat Büyükkal

RE: someone help me !!!!..urgent...
Even if your global classpath environment variable contain the right directories, startup script of Tomcat changes it, therefore your newly added classpath does not work. You must manually edit Tomcat\bin\startup.bat file and add your directories/jar files to corresponding classpath variable. You must then run Tomcat within bin directory with startup.bat. Murat. hai, I have installed JAKARTA-TOMCAT4.0.3 version on my windows machine...its on C:\jakarta-tomcat 4.0.3 I have installed oracle drivers on C:\classe12.zip... Now how do i set the path in this tomcat version so that i can access oracle I am in urgent need of this set up..so someone please help me... i have just started to use tomcat.. thanks Ajith
