Tomcat on windows platform?
Hi, We are currently running a web server using apache + tomcat on a linux machine, but we want to move the web server to a windows machine to avoid linux system administration. Could anybody share some ideas on how well apache+tomcat work on windows platform, and how is the security compared with Linux machine? If apache+tomcat doesn't work well, is there an alternative solution to run the JSP and Servlet on windows without degrading the performance? Any help will be greatly appreciated! I should have said that no jsp works. However, some executalbes such like ErrorPage will call a html first, so it work, but when I click submit, it throws the same error message. RE: installing and running tomcat 4.1 on linux
I did not repost these questions, but it is odd that they are got posted again. I set up the CATALINA_HOME and JAVA_HOME in /etc/profile. I used echo $CATALINA_HOME and echo $JAVA_HOME to make sure they are set and when I start up the tomcat, the following message comes up Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.4 Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.4 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.4/temp Using JAVA_HOME: /usr/jdk1.3.1 Using classpath: /usr/jdk1.3.1/lib/tools.jar:/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.4/bin/bootstrap.ja r It still does not work. The same error message. I wander if it is because my Linux machine(6.2.4) doesn't work with Tomcat4.x. I installed tomcat 3.3.1, and everything works fine. I thought I replied to this last week. I don't have any suggestions...installing and running Tomcat from binary is a fairly straight-forward 5 step process. I don't modify my startup scripts at all...I set my environment variables in /etc/profile or in a user directory, depending on the scenario. Are you sure that CATALINA_HOME and JAVA_HOME are actually set throughout the entire startup process? How do you know? upgrade web server from apache-1.3.14 + tomcat-3.2.1 to apache-1.3.26 + tomcat-4.0.4 or tomcat-4.1.10
Hi, I am planning to upgrade my web server from apache-1.3.14 + tomcat-3.2.1 to apache-1.3.26 + tomcat-4.0.4 or tomcat-4.1.10. I am using Linux 6.2. Could anybody tell me is this a good move? Is there any bad consequence with upgrade? Which version of tomcat should I upgrade to, 4.0.4 or 4.1.10? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Yaogeng
URLConnection was rejected in Apache-Tomcat Web envirment!
Hi: I was testing my servlet under Apach-Tomcat envirment in Linux system. I opened 200 threads in my Win 2000 and kept opening URLConnections and sent some String to the servlet using DataOutputStream dateOut = new DataOutputStream(conn.getOutputStream());. After a period of time, a lot of threads was failed to connect to the servlets by throwing java.net.ConnectionException. I checked Linux machine, and I found a lot of sockets were opend by my test client and were not closed and waiting time out. Is it normal that all these tcp connection did not close by themself and is it the reason that some URLConnection was rejected? How can I fix the problem? Is there any limitations with my Linux machine or TomCat on the number of TCP socket (by URLConnection on port 8080) connections? How can I check it and change the number? Thanks Yaogeng
RE: URLConnection was rejected in Apache-Tomcat Web envirment!
Ken: Thanks for your info. I was creating one URLConnection per 5 seconds per thread. When I created 400 threads, a lot of threads failed to connect after about 5 minutes. If I run 200 threads, there was not any exception, but connecting to server is obviously slow. So I was thinking I was creating around 20 connections/sec to generate ConnectException. Is that the limit of Tomcat/Apache? I thought Tomcat/Apache is much more powerful than that. Any more thoughts on that? Thanks a lot! For apache limits, see: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/directives.html For linux, try 'sysctl -a' to see a list of limits. How many connections/sec were you creating? RE: Memory usage
Jeff: Thanks for the replying. The total memory usage of Apache and tomcat is 14464k. Is that normal? Thanks a lot! Just java native threads showing up as multiple processes, but its actually mostly shared memory. Do a 'top' to confirm. jeff Yaogeng Cheng wrote: Hi: I am using TomCat version 3.2.1 in Linux, and I found there are a lot of java apps running after I started the tomcat. They used a lot of memory. Memory usage
Hi: I am using TomCat version 3.2.1 in Linux, and I found there are a lot of java apps running after I started the tomcat. They used a lot of memory. Does newer version TomCat use much less memory than 3.2.1. If there is, which version should I use? Thanks, Yaogeng
