John,

I have tried your suggesions but I think the problem is the path to Tomcat.

I am using Windows XP and the command promp automatically defaults to
C:\Documents and Settings\Go For It Web Design, it doesn't recognise
C:\ as a valid command. How can I get around this as Tomcat is installed
under C:\Tomcat?.

Thanks for your help

Rocket
p.s. the logs for Tomcat were empty

the directory you are un doesn'r mattet as long as you set path and
environment variables: PATH CATALINA_HOME JAVA_HOME.
if you just want to be in c:\tomcat\bin strike cd c:\tomcat\bin
CATALINA_HOME will be set @ .. by the startup batch. but you still have
to set JAVA_HOME correctly, or ot won't work.

Re: Tomcat Application on Port 443 or 8080?

Hi Experts:

My Apache+SSL is working now - thanks to you all. I checked it using
https://www.kithany.com.

However, I have a small Application which contains JSP+Servlets which
calls Oracle DB via JDBC. This application is working fine when I type
http://www.kithany.com:8080/kithany/index.jsp but when I try HTTPS as
https://www.kithany.com:8080/kithany/index.jsp it does'nt work - ie
page does'nt shows up.

I know that HTTPS listens to port 443 and my Application(Tomcat+JBoss)
listens to port 8080 - so how do I integrate both the ports to work
together? Any useful information on above is appreciated.

THANKS!

testing tomcat 5.0

2002-11-07 Thread yves lambert
Hello the list...
Testing 5.0 I can't access to http://localhost:8080/jsp-examples/ 404
error in any version i have downloaded.
tomcat 5.0 seems faster than 4 release, but without testing the JSP
example it's hard to make comparison. i tried to find what was wrong bit
didn't get any idea. i renamed servelt-examples directory to Test and
got access to http://localhost:8080/test. then i renamed jsp-examples
to foo and still got no access to http://localhost:8080/foo. any idea?

Re: testing tomcat 5.0

2002-11-07 Thread yves lambert
The examples are fixed in the CVS version (which is extermely easy to
build).
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/building.html

on http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.0-doc/BUILDING.txt the
build process is somewhat different. which one is the most general?
Thak you Remy. i should read :-)

5.0.1-dev is currently faster than 4.0.x, but slower than 4.1.x (not
by that much, though). The first stable release is expected to be
faster than the latest 4.1.x release.

the comparison i made was with 4.1.7 not 4.1.x release and index.jsp
loads faster in 5.0

your batch file must be like that
restart.bat
call %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\shutdown.bat
call %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat
if it doesn't work you may set a delay between the 2 commands?
