Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox on an HP Mediasmart server space usage
Status update - Installed the C++ requirement. Followed that with the install of 7.7.2-33893 update. All went well and seems to be working fine. A little monitoring for a day or two should tell the tale. Ran the Squeezebox cleanup for the cache. It ran for approximately six hours. Everything seems to be running fine after that. And most important is that the free space on the sys drive is now 8.29 GB. Now I must decide which path to take to install the 7.7.2 update and hope for the best. Thanks for the help so far - but I will be back for more, most likely. tspyder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96355 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox on an HP Mediasmart server space usage
You should update your LMS. 7.7 introduced a much improved caching, getting rid of the FileCache folder. Please note that during the update you might think the installer had locked up. That's due to your gigantic cache folder which will be removed. Due to the large number of files in there this can take quite a while. mherger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96355 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox on an HP Mediasmart server space usage
I am running 7.6.1 r33110 at this time. There is an LMS 7.7.2 - 33893 waiting to be installed. Are you saying that this may resolve the problem and eliminate the large cache? that would be great. However, a while back, i had been running a version before the 7.6.1 level. An update came in for a new version which I do not at this time recall the level. It may have been the first 7.7 version. I went through the steps to do the instal but it failed and left things broken. As a result, I picked up the release prior to that one and installed it with no problem. I am somewhat reluctrant to do this install. The problem as I recall was that the install that failed wanted some software which it could not find on the system and would not continue, leaving everything broken. How can I be certain everything will work ok this time? Is there some way to check for necessary parts prior to doing an install? Is there a detailed install document available? Should the current release be uninstalled first? Is there a straight forward procedure to backup the current version for a quick go back? tspyder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96355 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

There was something about a missing c++ runtime for some windows users you migth wan't to install that ? Do other WHS user have any input on how to proceed ? Hopefully the folders will be removed or you could delete them after the upgrade, now that mherger reminded me i remember manually deleting mine after an upgrade a long time ago (but i tested an beta ) maybe they been smart and made this automatic Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96355 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

If in doubt, download the runtime library before the LMS installation, and install it on your system. Would it pay to run the cache cleanup prior to a upgrade install? It would speed up the installation process, as you're dealing with that lengthy part of it beforehand. Seems to me that this ought to be automated in the upgrade or at least a documented procedure provided. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox on an HP Mediasmart server space usage
I need to state that I do not like to make changes if I do not understand what they are and what they may do, at least a little. I prefer an orderly approach as much as possible. So just to clarify a few things, Squeezebox is running on an HP EX495 Mediasmart server using an HP version of Microsoft Windows Home Server system. This is not Linux. The system drive has a 20GB partition dedicated to the system stuff. All the other space is handled automatically by WHS. There is currently about 2.6TB available across 2 drives. The music files reside in that storage space, not in the system area. The only other things that are stored in that space are backups for 5 pc's plus photos in shared files. This is all I use the server for and it works great. I am reluctant to point the cache to the storage area unless I can be certain that is approved and will not disturb other functions of the server. Squeezebox is used to provide music to a Logitech Touch which in turn is cabled to an amp for playing music. This also works very well. I never need to touch a cd player again. The music is stored as flac, because I do not like mp3. There are only 211 albums with 2242 tracks at this time. I am confident that this is a relatively small number of music files, compared to others. Squeezebox is at the 7.6.1 level. I have already checked for log-files using excessive space and do not think there is a problem in this regard. The logs are set to error, not verbose. Treesize points to Squeezebox cache as taking 7.4GB of the 20GB system. That 7.4 resides in the Documents and Settings folder of SYS, which is currently only 7.9 total. The remainder of the space utilization in SYS appears to be normal and not excessive. The 7.4 in squeezebox cache seems excessive. What is in that cache? Does it grow with more data, therefore destined to become a limiting factor? Should I regularly purge the cache, and what is the result of that? Why is it not self-cleaning if that is necessary? These are questions I would like to understand prior to making any changes. tspyder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96355 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I am assuming that this is the database itself which Squeezebox uses somehow. It will take quite a while to find one file amongst hundreds in tis folder and it will be a meaningless search. This is probably just the way the database is structured. This IS the significant folder/file. So again, is this normal? Can I clean this database out and will it rebuild properly? When it rebuilds, will it reduce in size to something workable and less greedy? If this is normal, or normal in that it will grow again, this appears to be, as I said, a limiting factor in day to day processing. Ok what was the exact version of LMS you are running ? you can find out from the info page in settings in the web-UI My cache size for 37000 music files is 1,743 items, totalling 2.4 GB and 1.8 GB is my spotify cache as i use triodes plugin so *my real cache is only 0.6GB * I assume that you do let LMS scan for photos and videos ? I don't even have a folder named FileCache . But I have disable all photo and video scanning Maybe mherger can answer what FileCache do ,thats a clue for sure !! Btw are you using any plugin like trackstat or any other of erlands plugins if so you can set their cache directories from the web-UI for example the trackstat plugin does backups reguraly and they are big . But the plugi lets you store this stuff elsewhere . [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox on an HP Mediasmart server space usage
I am running Squeezebox product on HP EX495 server. It works fantastically. However, I recently encountered a problem with the system partition of the server filling up. As far as I can tel now, it seems that the biggest usage of space is Squeezebox for its cache. The server does not allocate a lot of space for the system partition because it uses the remainder of available space for backups and media collection files. The space is so tight that it will sometimes hangup and I have to delete some log files just to get enough to continue to run. Why does the cache use so much space - on my system it is currently 7.4GB out of the available total of 20GB. Is there a way to point the cache at a different drive on the server? ( I currently have 3TB of storage space in separate drives, with 2.4TB free.) Should the cache be regularly cleaned out? And if I do that, what am I losing? Also, that would seem a limiting factor in how much music could be maintained on the system. Since this is a server, it would be nice to be able to set it up and ignore it. If one has to do regular cleanups, it is not set and forget. At this point, can I run the cache cleanup and be assured that I do not have to reload anything or re-enter information? Will that back down the space used by the cache or will it rescan and go right back to where it was? tspyder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41771 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96355 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
