[Touch-packages] [Bug 1412916] Re: evince: Bad PDF rendering: invalid font scale

2015-01-21 Thread Charles Baylis
I would like this bug to be considered for a Stable Release Update to
14.04 (and 14.10 if applicable)

[Impact]

 * Many PDFs do not display correctly, including the boarding passes
from a major European airline

 * Printing a boarding pass is a common simple task which users expect
to work, and therefore should be fixed in the stable release.

 * see upstream bug report for discussion about the mechanism of the
fix.

[Test Case]

 * attempt to view the test case in the linked upstream bug using
'evince attachment.pdf'

 * observe corrupted text displayed

[Regression Potential]

 * theoretically, other PDFs which currently display correctly could be
displayed incorrectly after this change, but is intended to emulate
acroread, so this is unlikely.

 * patch has been reviewed and committed upstream, so should be safe

[Other Info]

 * none

Hopefully, the patch attached to the upstream bug report would fix the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413313] Re: apparmor denied messages in log, may be responsible for not printing anymore

2015-01-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd should have this line:
  profile third_party {

changed to:
  profile third_party flags=(attach_disconnected) {

Once that is done, then the fix for bug #1413232 will need to be applied
to apparmor for this to be fixed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413302] Re: GSM connected, but no data plan - should report disconnected

2015-01-21 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
@mathieu-tl

this bug is not about informing the users that their data plan has ran
out or that there might be additional costs to data connectivity.

This bug is about Connectivity API telling the applications that there
is network connection available, but still no data is moving in or out.

First thing to figure out is that is the establishing of mobile
connection actually successful on technical point of view, or is there a
bug in either NM or ofono that they report a data connection being
connected when in fact on the technical level there is no data carrier.

If ofono and NM are behaving properly and from their point of view
everything is up and running (there is an IP assigned through DHCP and
DNS server being assigned by the operator) but the operator is simply
dropping all of the traffic on their end, then this becomes a (feature)
bug about enabling higher level Are we connected to the actual
Internet detection which can either be dealt with enabling Captive
Portal detection in NM or we cook up some other detection mechanism.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1406925] Re: lxc-start fails due to insufficient permission for creating netdev

We are working around important functionality being missing from
the kernel. I'd prefer that the apparmor mount functionality go
upstream sooner, rather then spend time (and risk regressions)
working around it better.

  ProblemType: Bug

  Package: systemd-services 204-0ubuntu19
  Uname: Linux 3.12.0-custom x86_64

  SRU INFORMATION:
  FIX: https://github.com/desrt/systemd-shim/commit/9e1ebe3ab (in trusty
already)

Regression potential: Low. Flushing the session bus was introduced in
version 4 and is obviously bogus as in a system D-BUS service there is
no session bus. This causes lots of confusing error messages and
unnecessary overhead like trying to start dbus-launch. Flushing the
system bus is low-risk, in most cases it's a no-op and it would
otherwise prevent losing signals after waking up. No known
  regressions.

TEST CASE: Run several suspend/resume cycles with the lid, session
indicator menu, and verify that the network comes back up. It is known
that this fix is necessary but not sufficient, so it is not expected
to fix all cases. But it should not make things worse, so if network
now does not come up any more on a machine where it previously worked
  this would count as failure/regression.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413302] Re: GSM connected, but no data plan - should report disconnected

2015-01-21 Thread Tony Espy
AFAIK, there's no way for ofono to know that credit has run out.
ofono is responsible for attaching to the GPRS network and ensuring that
the correct ConnectionManager DBus properties are exposed ( 'Powered'
and 'Attached' ). Likewise ofono exposes one or more GPRS contexts
which NM may choose to activate.

If the operator responds to an context activation request with valid IP
settings, then NM will use them to configure the data connection.

If packets on this new interface are dropped, we currently lack any kind
of network heartbeat mechanism to detect this situation. This is no
different than being in an area that has borderline signal quality.
This is quite similar to the case where an Ubuntu desktop is connected
to a WiFi AP, but the the ISP that the AP is connected to is having
issues.

@Michael - in order to confirm the ofono state, could you please include
the output of ofono's 'list-modems' and 'list-contexts' scripts ( which
can be found in /usr/share/ofono/scripts on the phone )?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1371853] Re: Logitech wireless mouse periodically loses correct click behaviour

2015-01-21 Thread Ed Guenter
I think I am hitting the same problem; interestingly on Xubuntu 14.04 ... and a
plantronics blackwire 420 headset.
Any time I use it to make a call (and start using its volume keys) ...
mouse/keyboard get whacked that way.

Title:
Logitech wireless mouse periodically loses correct click behaviour

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
This problem began with the 14.04 upgrade. The mouse has always worked
  normally until then.

Approximately every 10 minutes left-clicks are not registered properly to the
topmost window. They usually appear to go through to the window below and
it's not possible to switch focus to a new window (or any other window). Mouse
movement is unaffected and clicking on the original window (which has grabbed
the focus) seems to work. The Unity bar pops out but is not clickable and
rapidly re-hides. Sometimes individual window elements are not usable even if
the main window itself is. Examples:
  * In Thunderbird, left-pane account/folder selection works, but does not
perform the corresponding update to the message list/preview panes when the
folder selection changes.
  * dialogues are popped up where parts of the dialogue respond to clicks but
other parts do not. Commonly, the dialogue title/menu bar is not responsive (it
cannot be moved/closed).

Sometimes right-clicking will restore focus to the appropriate
  window/area. Sometimes not.

Unloading and reloading usbhid and hid_logitech modules does not help.

Restarting will fix the problem temporarily.

WORKAROUND: Switch to a console and back will fix the problem
temporarily via Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then Ctrl-Alt-F7.

Bug description:
Hello, I just completed a quick review of the click source and the
unity-scope-click source and behaviours, and found some opportunities
  for improvement.

Debian, and Ubuntu, rely upon signed repository files with
cryptographic hashes of packages to provide both integrity and
authenticity checks for the packages hosted on that repository.

The click framework and the unity-scope-click discovery and
installation tool do not use signed repository files, nor do they have
signatures of any sort on downloaded packages. The only integrity and
authenticity checks are provided by the use of HTTPS. The click
verify command will check files within the archive against MD5sums
stored inside the archive but the click verify command is not used
during package installation. (This is suitable for validating
  integrity against accidental changes only.)

While it appears that unity-scope-click properly uses HTTPS to
download package metadata and packages, HTTPS alone is insufficient
  for our needs:

  - Someone in a position to create new certificates at any of several
hundred certificate authorities could create certificates purporting
to be our update servers. This actual problem has been discovered in
the wild with several certificate authorities issuing wild-card
certificates or even certificates with signing authority.

  - X.509 is extremely complicated; TLS is extremely complicated. Flaws
  in both are inevitable.

  - HTTPS prevents the use of caching.

  - HTTPS only 'works' for data-in-motion; it is useless for data-at-
  rest integrity and authenticity checks.

I have not yet reviewed the tools that application authors will use to
upload their packages to our distribution servers but note in passing
that most of these issues are also issues for adding packages to our
update servers -- packages in flight within our network can be
corrupted for many reasons, packages on disk can be corrupted for many
reasons. A signature mechanism can protect against internal network
faults, storage faults, and provide assurance months or years later
that an uploaded package was uploaded by someone in control of a
  corresponding private key.

  Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1320788] Re: USSD code result shows useless Cancel button

2015-01-21 Thread Tiago Salem Herrmann
When we first implemented this feature we tried to use only one button,
but the snap decision wouldn't allow us to place only one button in the
bubble. Not sure if that is currently possible.

USSD must be a modal notification as per GSM spec and should not
timeout. It requires an interaction from users in order to go away. And
IIRC, regular on screen notification also do not support that.

We ended up adding the cancel button as a workaround. The right fix in
my opinion would be allowing snap decisions with only one action button.

While listening music through internal speakers I noticed that left speaker
sounds differently from the right one. I would describe left speaker's sound as
those from the headphones lying on the table: low volume level and mostly high
frequences are heard.
  1) Trying to check mixer levels in alsamixer, muting/unmuting, balance
channels etc didnt help.
  2) In alsamixer there is a mixer item called Bass Speaker. If I mute it,
other playback items (including Master) are muted too. If I make its level to
0, then sound from both speakers become identical: low volume and without bass
frequences. Level of the Bass Speaker resets if I adjust volume level from
Unity volume control tool.
  3) Trying to set model parameter for intel_hda module to mbp55 or imac27
didnt help.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1075717] Re: mounted-dev must not re-create consoles in a container

2015-01-21 Thread Stéphane Graber
This needs fixing in precise too. I just ran into that very problem with
current upstream LXC and a precise privileged container.

I'll upload a straight cherry-pick of the mounted-dev.conf job as we
have it nowadays (I confirmed that fixes it here).

** Also affects: lxc (Ubuntu Precise)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Also affects: mountall (Ubuntu Precise)

   Status: New

** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu Precise)
   Status: New = Invalid

** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu Precise)
   Status: New = Triaged

** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu Precise)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Stéphane Graber (stgraber)

** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu Precise)
   Importance: Undecided = High

** Description changed:

mounted-dev.conf always does MAKEDEV console. MAKEDEV doesn't just make
the devices, it first removes them.

When a container starts, it sets up /dev/console and /dev/lxc[1-4] as
bind mounts of ptys on the host, for use as lxc consoles. If mounted-
dev deletes and recreates those, then none of the lxc consoles work.

A simple patch which stops it from breaking lxc consoles is at lp
  :~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/quantal/mountall/mountall-lxc . However looking
back at it, I think it would be ok to do a further check for whether
/dev/console exists. If it does not exist, then MAKEDEV console anyway.
This isn't necessary, just a thought.
+
+
+ == SRU ==
+ === Rationale ===
+ This bug was fixed in trusty but still affects precise LXC containers that
are brought up with /dev mounted as something other than a devtmpfs (which is
the case with LXC 1.1).
+
+ === Test case ===
+ - Install LXC 1.1 (from ppa:ubuntu-lxc/daily or in a few days, from vivid)
+ - sudo lxc-create -t download -n precise -- -d ubuntu -r precise -a amd64
+ - sudo lxc-start -n precise -F
+
+ That will hang at a blank screen even though the container is
+ functional.
+
+ - sudo lxc-attach -n precise -- apt-get dist-upgrade -y
+ - sudo lxc-attach -n precise -- reboot
+
+ And at that point, getty should show up fine in the lxc-start shell.
+
+ === Regression potential ===
+ Not expecting any, the change is straightforward and has been in Ubuntu since
raring.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1236749] Re: Gnome shell extensions disabled at every startup

2015-01-21 Thread Pietro Gagliardi (andlabs/pietro10)
The problem with this bug is that it doesn't exhibit itself consistently
or predictably.

On my previous laptop's Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 setup, reboots worked fine
until some point (a month after installing?), at which point this
behavior started happening... but only on a clean reboot. If I killed
power to my laptop by force instead, extensions would stay. (This
probably further confirms the hypothesis in bug 1385572.) The previous
laptop was a Dell Precision M6400 with a Core 2 Duo CPU and Quadro FX
2700M graphics. I forget if I tried nVidia drivers or not.

So far, I have not seen this happen with clean reboots on my current
laptop. It is a Lenovo G60-45 with the following combined CPU/GPU: AMD
A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics. I mainly use the AMD drivers
due to freezing issues with mesa; I forget if this happened with mesa as
well or not. This is still with Ubuntu GNOME 14.10.

Title:
  Cannot eject flash memory card

Status in eject package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
As a normal user, insert SDHC flash memory card, it mounts ok, but
there is an error when trying to eject it:

   $ eject /media/00F0-82C2
  eject: unable to open `/dev/mmcblk0p1'

   $ eject --version
eject version 2.1.5 by Jeff Tranter (tran...@pobox.com)

   $ dpkg -l | dpkg-grep eject
  eject-2.1.5+deb1+cvs20081104-9

This is happening in all recent versions of Ubuntu from Maverick to
  Quantal.

sudo eject works ok, and the device permissions are:
    brw-rw 1 root disk 179, 1 Oct 1 12:00 /dev/mmcblk0p1

Looks like the permissions handling needs to be changed.
Either the insert and the eject should both work, or they both should not
work. Being able to insert, but not eject is inconsistent and ridiculous.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1011175] Re: Unable to eject broken dvd

2015-01-21 Thread Ken Sharp
Possible duplicate of Bug #726785

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to eject in Ubuntu.

Title:
  Unable to eject broken dvd

Status in eject package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Normally, I can eject my DVDs simply using eject from the command
line or using the context menu in dolphin (right-click on the DVD -
  eject).

However, today I came across a broken DVD. broken in this case
means: Probably something went wrong while burning the CD; whatsoever
the exact reasonmight be, the result is that the DVD can not be
  mounted.

If I now try to eject the DVD using sudo eject -v, I receive the
  following output:

  eject: using default device `cdrom'
  eject: device name is `cdrom'
  eject: expanded name is `/dev/cdrom'
  eject: `/dev/cdrom' is a link to `/dev/sr1'
  eject: `/dev/sr1' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/sr1' is not a mount point
eject: `/dev/sr1' is not a multipartition device
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using CD-ROM eject command
  eject: CD-ROM eject command failed

eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using SCSI commands

  eject: SCSI eject failed

eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using floppy eject command

  eject: floppy eject command failed

eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using tape offline command

  eject: tape offline command failed

eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

A normal eject -v with an unbroken DVD inserted looks like this:

  eject: using default device `cdrom'
  eject: device name is `cdrom'
  eject: expanded name is `/dev/cdrom'
  eject: `/dev/cdrom' is a link to `/dev/sr1'
  eject: `/dev/sr1' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/sr1' is not a mount point
eject: `/dev/sr1' is not a multipartition device
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using CD-ROM eject command
  eject: CD-ROM eject command failed
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using SCSI commands
  eject: SCSI eject succeeded

I can't find any possibility to eject the broken DVD. In dolphin it
doesn't even show up, and the eject button on the drive itself is also
not working. I need to restart my PC and eject the DVD while booting!

In KInfocenter, the device is displayed with the following information:
  Vendor: HL-DT-ST Model: DVD-ROM GDR8164B Rev: 0L06

Is there any further information I can provide on the problem?

Title:
  can not eject DVD drive

Status in eject package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: eject

I had a DVD+RW inserted that I unmounted and mounted several times (as
bug data collection for another bug).

After that right clicked the DVD icon in Places/Computer as selected
  to blank it.

Then I tried to burn an iso image to it, but brasero complained there
is no space in the blank DVD...

So I decided to do the old trick of eject-and-reinsert, but I can't eject it.
The hardware eject button has no effect.
In the GUI, the context menu has no Eject item.

  cmd line gives:
  $ sudo eject -v  /dev/sr0
  eject: device name is `/dev/sr0'
  eject: expanded name is `/dev/sr0'
  eject: `/dev/sr0' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/sr0' is not a mount point

eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr0' using CD-ROM eject command
  eject: CD-ROM eject command failed
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr0' using SCSI commands
  eject: SCSI eject succeeded

  But is does not eject.

  The drive is:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 980472] Re: Inappropriate ioctl for device when ejecting USB flash drive

2015-01-21 Thread Ken Sharp
Please stop spamming this report with every type of media that has
trouble ejecting.

Is the ORIGINAL issue (USB drive) still a problem?

Title:
Inappropriate ioctl for device when ejecting USB flash drive

Status in eject package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 (eject version 2.1.5+deb1+cvs20081104-9), when
I eject a flash drive using sudo eject, I get this error message:

not an sg device, or old sg driver
eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Previously, I had no problems ejecting using the same version of
eject. The problem came up when I formatted the flash drive so that
it would be encrypted. Also, I change the file system from the
default (FAT32, I think) to NTFS. On another drive which I formatted
to ext4, the same problem occurs -- again, it is now an encrypted file
  system.

The drive is successfully unmounted, though, since it no longer
appears under df. However, it is still on since the light is
  still on.

  sudo umount gives no problems.

Bug description:
Running `eject -i 1` is supposed to lock the cd drive so it can't be
  ejected:

  $ eject -i 1
CD-Drive may NOT be ejected with device button

Until a few weeks ago, this worked properly: after this command,
neither running `eject` nor pressing the device eject button would
open the drive. However, recently the device eject button has been
  able to eject the drive:

  $ eject -i 1
CD-Drive may NOT be ejected with device button
  $ eject
eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device
$ #press eject button: now the device _ejects_, which is incorrect. After
closing the drive:
  $ eject
  $ #The drive now opens.

This is running Ubuntu 11.10, eject 2.1.5+deb1+cvs20081104-8, and
  kernel 3.0.0-15.26 generic x86_64.

Status in eject package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Normally, I can eject my DVDs simply using eject from the command
line or using the context menu in dolphin (right-click on the DVD -
  eject).

However, today I came across a broken DVD. broken in this case
means: Probably something went wrong while burning the CD; whatsoever
the exact reasonmight be, the result is that the DVD can not be
  mounted.

If I now try to eject the DVD using sudo eject -v, I receive the
  following output:

  eject: using default device `cdrom'
  eject: device name is `cdrom'
  eject: expanded name is `/dev/cdrom'
  eject: `/dev/cdrom' is a link to `/dev/sr1'
  eject: `/dev/sr1' is not mounted

  eject: floppy eject command failed

eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using tape offline command

  eject: tape offline command failed

eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

A normal eject -v with an unbroken DVD inserted looks like this:

  eject: using default device `cdrom'
  eject: device name is `cdrom'
  eject: expanded name is `/dev/cdrom'
  eject: `/dev/cdrom' is a link to `/dev/sr1'
  eject: `/dev/sr1' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/sr1' is not a mount point
eject: `/dev/sr1' is not a multipartition device
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using CD-ROM eject command
  eject: CD-ROM eject command failed
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr1' using SCSI commands
  eject: SCSI eject succeeded

I can't find any possibility to eject the broken DVD. In dolphin it
doesn't even show up, and the eject button on the drive itself is also
not working. I need to restart my PC and eject the DVD while booting!

In KInfocenter, the device is displayed with the following information:
  Vendor: HL-DT-ST Model: DVD-ROM GDR8164B Rev: 0L06

Is there any further information I can provide on the problem?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1385572] Re: gnome-session not shutting down cleanly

2015-01-21 Thread Pietro Gagliardi (andlabs/pietro10)
I don't know how much this comment would contribute to this bug but I
can at least confirm that the behavior described here is a possible
reason why this is going on, as judged by my comment to bug 1236749
here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-

occurred if I rebooted cleanly, but not if I forced the machine off.

are disabled after restart (LP: #1236749), I've only just managed to
reproduce this and have discovered that gnome-session is not shutting
  down cleanly.

Basically, X gets shutdown, which causes gnome-shell to abort,
following this gnome-session tries to respawn gnome-shell which fails
and due to this failure disables all shell extensions. I don't know
enough about upstart to really understand what is going on but it
appears this also affects unity and it just hasnt been noticed since
there are probably no such side-effects happening there.

Filing this against upstart since this is not reproducible when using
systemd init, though it may well be a bug in gnome-session, but
  related to upstart user sessions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413343] Re: lxc-create debug output is broken or useless

2015-01-21 Thread Serge Hallyn
You need to specify a template for the container to create. For
instance,

lxc-create -t download -n buildbox -- -d ubuntu -r trusty -a amd64

In newer releases, you do get a better error message:

# lxc-create -n b1
A template must be specified.
Use none if you really want a container without a rootfs.

Bug description:
creating a centos 7 container mostly worked using the template, but
when it was launched, it was really slow to run through most of the
sysinit tasks, and neither systemd-journald nor systemd-logind could
start. The error was something like Error at step CAPABILITIES. I
  found things like

  CapabilityBoundingSet=CAP_SYS_ADMIN CAP_AUDIT_CONTROL CAP_CHOWN
  CAP_KILL CAP_DAC_READ_SEARCH CAP_DAC_OVERRIDE CAP_FOWNER
  CAP_SYS_TTY_CONFIG

in fedora's service files, and tried not dropping SETPCAP in
centos.common.conf. That allowed the container to boot with no further
issues. (the lack of SETFCAP may cause problems with updates down the
  line, I don't know yet)

Currently the SDK has to use adb forward in order to connect and talk to

However it would be much more reliable if we could create a network over USB
and talk
  directly to it.
Probably even run a DHCP server on usb0 so we do not need to setup the
interface ourselves
and provide a DBUS callback so the SDK can trigger the usbnet to be created
over ADB.

Quotes from a conversation with Wellark on IRC:

zbenjamin Wellark: would be interesting for the SDK
zbenjamin Wellark: instead of adb forwarding the ports, which is totally
unreliable, we could create a network with the phone and talk to it directly
Wellark zbenjamin: well, you file a bug
Wellark zbenjamin: then you tell my manager to get me to do the UI
zbenjamin Wellark: the idea would be that we setup the initial stuff with
adb. And then switch over to usb network which is decoupled from the adb
completely
  Wellark zbenjamin: yep.
Wellark adb would only make one call over dbus
zbenjamin Wellark: having a dhcp running on the usb interface would make
things super easy
  Wellark com.ubuntu.connectivity.usbnet.Enable()
  Wellark or something
Wellark that would kick up the usbnet
Wellark zbenjamin: yep. and zeroconf dns
zbenjamin yeah. And we could make ssh only listen on this interface instead
of all, and enable wlan only if the user checks a box in the UI
Wellark so you don't have to deal with IP's
  zbenjamin exactly

You need libpoppler-glib8=0.26.5-0ubuntu2 as well for evince. I suggest
just upgrading all of the poppler packages you have installed.

See the attached screenshots for before/after when upgrading
libpoppler46 libpoppler-glib8. I didn't restart the session, just
evince.

Bug description:
  [ Description ]

Some ligatures (e.g. fi) are not displayed in certain fonts, because
there are two different naming schemes in use in the wild.

  [ Fix ]

Poppler upstream fixed this by adding a lookup table to fall back to
  the second scheme if necessary.

  [ QA ]

  1. Install tex-gyre
  2. Download
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/1317599/+attachment/4213588/+files/rfa1415_15sep_lect1.pdf
  3. Open the file in evince
  4. Look at Biometrics: file on page 3

If the fi ligature in file is not displayed, you have this bug.
file should be displayed normally after it's fixed.

  [ Regression potential ]

Since this patch implements a fallback only when lookup false, there
shouldn't be any problems. Still, check all existing PDFs are still
  displayed correctly.

  [ Original report ]

While there's Bug #1325230 with the same title and the linked PDFs there are
working fine here (displaying fi correctly) there seems to be still some bug
regarding ligatures.
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/1325230

I have some PDFs substituting Helvetica (and others) with TeX Gyre
Heros and showing no fi ligature. I attached a patch I derived from
the patch in Bug #1325230 which is working fine. Now it uses Nimbus
Sans L and the ligatures are fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: Network Manager asks for the PIN even if it is memorized

2015-01-21 Thread Uqbar
@themroc, your workaround has no general applicability.
The GSM/3G modem PIN is a sensitive information and would get different
security level whether stored under /etc or in $HOME.
In the former case only root would know it and be bale to change or disable it.
In the latter case all users should know.

My ThinkPad T43 works quite well with Ubuntu 12.04, but with a clean
install of 12.10, Unity is slow (I can type in the Unity Dash Home and
then count the seconds as my letters slowly appear in sequence),
sometimes freezes (when I close an application, the icon becomes faded
in the Dash but doesn't disappear, and the application window just
stays on the screen but I can't interact with it), and text develops
little lines through it after suspend and resume (this was also
present in 12.04 and can be fixed with a modification to the
xorg.conf... something about debug-wait... but it would be nice if I
didn't have to make that change on the whole batch of T43's I'm going
  to sell).

Bug description:
This is the public version of the following bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/barajas/+bug/1393641

After debugging seems the issue is that the application is getting
deactivated and then activated (via Qt.application.active) when making
a call in greeter (emergency) mode. This is causing problems for the
app as it pops pages when it gets deactivated and causes the bug
sometimes. The underlying problem is that this signal should not be
occuring when the app is clearly in the foreground. It doesn't happen
  when not in greeter mode.

An easy way to test is to install telepathy-ofono deb which is
attached and set a fake emergency number to allow you to dial a normal
number in emergency mode to help test by running this command at the
  shell:

  mc-tool set ofono/ofono/account0
  string:fakeEmergencyNumber=yourNumber

Then adding console.log() to the applicationActive signal in dialer-
app.qml will verify. When pressing the call button the app is
  deactivated then reactivated.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) install attached telephathy-ofono deb and reboot
  2) run
  mc-tool set ofono/ofono/account0 string:fakeEmergencyNumber=yourNumber
and then follow secondary instructions (if any)
  3) lock phone
  4) press emergency call button
  5) dial yourNumber which will be a fake emergency call
  6) press the call button
  7) sometimes you will see a blank Emergency Call page after you press the
call button, and when it works you will see the live call page
  8) adding debug to dialer-app.qml will show the active=false then active=true
behavior after performing step 6.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1273201] Re: bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at boot

2015-01-21 Thread John Ruiz
Is there any plan to get this into 14.04 LTS?

I run Mint, which is going to stay on 14.04 LTS for the next few
releases, so unless it gets into 14.04 LTS, Mint users won't be able to
get this fix for - potentially - a long time.

Title:
bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I've created a bridge with network-manager-gnome, the bridge slave
physical device is eth0. After a reboot the bridge is brought up, but
  eth0 isn't attached.

  First test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0 and remove all other connections. After a reboot the bridge is
brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. When I open
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and save it without any modification,
eth0 is instantly added to my bridge. Strange!

  Second test-case:
Created a bridge with network-manager-gnome with the bridge slave physical
device is eth0. Disable the autoconnect of the default wired network. After a
reboot the bridge is brought up, but eth0 isn't attached. Instead eth0 is
brought up and full configured.

After compiling and testing different upstream versions, i could track
the problem down to bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch. A
network-manager package without this specific patch, brings my bridge
up at boot and adds eth0 to the bridge in both test-cases.

I've checked the behaviour on my ubuntu 13.10 box with network-manager
(0.9.8.0-0ubuntu22) and the trusty version network-manager
  (0.9.8.8-0ubuntu1) .

Till now i couldn't encounter any sideeffects of removing this patch
with the bridge created by libvirt.

  Regards
  Mathias Kresin

I had ATI Radeon HD 3870 with open source drivers, now I have GeForce GTX 750
Ti with NVIDIA proprietary drivers. Same thing.

Bug description:
  [ Description ]

Some ligatures (e.g. fi) are not displayed in certain fonts, because
there are two different naming schemes in use in the wild.

  [ Fix ]

Poppler upstream fixed this by adding a lookup table to fall back to
  the second scheme if necessary.

  [ QA ]

  1. Install tex-gyre
  2. Download
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/1317599/+attachment/4213588/+files/rfa1415_15sep_lect1.pdf
  3. Open the file in evince
  4. Look at Biometrics: file on page 3

If the fi ligature in file is not displayed, you have this bug.
file should be displayed normally after it's fixed.

  [ Regression potential ]

Since this patch implements a fallback only when lookup false, there
shouldn't be any problems. Still, check all existing PDFs are still
  displayed correctly.

  [ Original report ]

While there's Bug #1325230 with the same title and the linked PDFs there are
working fine here (displaying fi correctly) there seems to be still some bug
regarding ligatures.
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/1325230

I have some PDFs substituting Helvetica (and others) with TeX Gyre
Heros and showing no fi ligature. I attached a patch I derived from
the patch in Bug #1325230 which is working fine. Now it uses Nimbus
Sans L and the ligatures are fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413269] Re: Qt network being unreliable establishing a connection

2015-01-21 Thread Pawel Stolowski
Bug #1409995 affected our smartscopesproxy service, which starts with
user session (keeps running in the background) and handles network
requests by creating QNetworkAccessManager instance with every new
request. So, in theory, since QNAM was re-created for every request, it
should not be affected by temporary network issue and should recover
with another request, assuming network becomes available. What we
observed however was a permanent failure: if the problem occurred after
reboot, no network requests were passing through anymore.
QNetworkAccessManager / QNetworkReply signals wouldn't report any
progress or error and were just stuck.

While reproducing that bug (which wasn't hard - it would happen every
2-3 reboots of the phone) I found out that it couldn't be reproduced if
I just killed smartscopesproxy process and let upstart respawn it - I
tried killing it around 20 times in a row, and every time it was serving
network request correctly. That suggests the problem may have something
to do with startup sequence.

Bug description:
After upgrading to Unity 5.8, few minutes the Super + Tab does not
  work as intended.

  Expected Behaviour:
Press Super+Tab and if you keep pressing Tab you can switch between
applications. On releasing Super the currently selected application will be
focused or opened.

  What actually happens:
Press Super+Tab and if you keep pressing Tab you will see the switching
happens (the white border keeps moving)..but then when you release the Super
button, the white border is shown on the application but the application is
not focussed or opened. The Launcher also now does not autohide. You have to
switch workspace for the launcher to autohide.

Attached a video screencast showing the behaviour.

When unplugged from USB, I notice when running $ top that init, dbus-

The steps I have performed to cause this:
  1) Ensure the device is off
  2) Plug a USB cable into the device and a computer with MTP support
  3) Boot the device
  4) Unlock the device, run the terminal and the command $ top
  5) Wait until the CPU settles, then unplug the USB cable
  6) Now notice that init, dbus-daemon, mpdecision start using ~10% CPU

This is the output from running dbus-monitor [0]

Note that when I plugged my device into a PC the CPU usage reduced
back to normal, but then when I unplugged it again it increased back
  to ~10% again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413302] Re: GSM connected, but no data plan - should report disconnected

2015-01-21 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
There isn't much we can do with NetworkManager for this: different
providers implement their plans differently. Here in Canada, many
providers will still let you stay connected (or successfully create a
new connection) even if your plan as run out, but you'll be charged
extra credit on a prepaid plan, or charged differently (and much much
more) on a monthly plan -- connectivity checking here would most likely
only incur additional costs.

I don't have anything better to offer right now than to keep thinking
about it, and that users unfortunately will need to keep track of data
usage on their own until there is such a facility to give data usage
stats on the device itself (which itself may be wrong, but better than
nothing).

Bug description:
This is the public version of the following bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/barajas/+bug/1393641

After debugging seems the issue is that the application is getting
deactivated and then activated (via Qt.application.active) when making
a call in greeter (emergency) mode. This is causing problems for the
app as it pops pages when it gets deactivated and causes the bug
sometimes. The underlying problem is that this signal should not be
occuring when the app is clearly in the foreground. It doesn't happen
  when not in greeter mode.

An easy way to test is to install telepathy-ofono deb which is
attached and set a fake emergency number to allow you to dial a normal
number in emergency mode to help test by running this command at the
  shell:

  mc-tool set ofono/ofono/account0
  string:fakeEmergencyNumber=yourNumber

Then adding console.log() to the applicationActive signal in dialer-
app.qml will verify. When pressing the call button the app is
  deactivated then reactivated.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) install attached telephathy-ofono deb and reboot
  2) run
  mc-tool set ofono/ofono/account0 string:fakeEmergencyNumber=yourNumber
and then follow secondary instructions (if any)
  3) lock phone
  4) press emergency call button
  5) dial yourNumber which will be a fake emergency call
  6) press the call button
  7) sometimes you will see a blank Emergency Call page after you press the
call button, and when it works you will see the live call page
  8) adding debug to dialer-app.qml will show the active=false then active=true
behavior after performing step 6.

  Get a voicemail notification
  select the voicemail event
  Unlock screen presented
dialer is shown but no number is provided

If you unlock the phone before selecting the notification it works

This is a bit of a problem if you haven't made a note of the number in
your address book as you lose the notification and cannot try again

As you can see in the above /run/network/ifup.eth0 was updated after
  /run/network/static-network-up-emitted

I have checked a few systems and this only seems to effect systems
  with ipv6 configuration.
