[Touch-packages] [Bug 1358294] Re: App .config not removed when app uninstalled
I keep getting an out of storage message in the camera app. The photos are saved to the SD Card that has over 10GB available. The storage ui shows that 'other files' make up the majority of the internal storage consumption. The 'other files' seems to be folders for apps that are no longer installed and there is no method to delete. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1478506] Re: Apps change system volume all the time
I think there are two possibilities here. One is that this is merely a duplicate of bug 1418210: volume level is reset anytime a new QAudioOutput is created, The other is that we have our output roles muddled. I was told that the default role for sound output -- not alarms, not phone calls, and not media playback, but anything else -- was called alert. So I specified that the volume controls should default to controlling the alert volume, switching to another role temporarily only when that other role is being used. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound?action=diffrev2=137rev1=136 Alarms, phone calls, and media playback almost always last for more than a couple of a seconds, so you have time to change their volume. But if apps are -- or whatever audio API apps use is -- by default using some output role that is *not* alert, then we'd see pretty much what's described here: the volume controls switch to showing that other role, but it's usually too brief for you to change the volume before the control reverts to showing the alert volume. So it *looks* like apps are changing the volume themselves, when really they're just using an output role that you usually don't see the volume of and don't have time to change the volume of. As well as being annoying in itself, the existence of this bug is causing confusion in other bug reports about sound volume UI, particularly bug 1389761, bug 1396986, and bug 1478075. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-sound in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1478506 Title: Apps change system volume all the time Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in indicator-sound package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: To reproduce, install the app Maroon in trouble from the app store and play it a little with having sound enabled. Press the volume down hardware button on the phone. It will temporarily decrease the volume. However, whenever a new item comes into the scene, it will be on 100% volume again. Setting the system volume to 0 should keep everything at 0. Please note that this app does *not* have any code to set the volume! Also this app is one of the upstream Qt QML example demo apps, so this is really how QML apps are supposed to work (in other words, it is not a badly implemented app, but really an issue in the system) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1478506/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Naturally, this seemed excessive to me and PathExistsGlob seems like a better fit. Additionally, it is worth noting that the following from the systemd.path documentation: If a path already exists (in case of PathExists= and PathExistsGlob=) or a directory already is not empty (in case of DirectoryNotEmpty=) at the time the path unit is activated, then the configured unit is immediately activated as well. Something similar does not apply to PathChanged= and PathModified=. Given that it appears with PathChanged the apport-noui service would never be run during boot up, again not what we want. However, making these changes seems to have caused some strange test failures with the apport's tests. https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/wily-adt-apport/ runs 47 through 55 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1478115/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1379777] Re: [Orientation] Allow applications to specify the orientations supported
Seems mir has the necessary support with mir_surface_set_preferred_orientation, which confusingly doesn't do anything at the moment, as the shell isn't honouring it. I'm currently providing orientation support in neverball and tuxracer by rotating the whole scene and touch input to the user preference, and locking to an arbitrary orientation using the desktop file parameter to prevent automatic rotation interfering with the gameplay. It'd be much better if the mir surface flag was honoured so the panel and gesture edges would also be rotated in order to maintain consistency with other applications. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1379777 Title: [Orientation] Allow applications to specify the orientations supported Status in QtMir: In Progress Status in Ubuntu UX: Triaged Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Currently unity8 shell has a partial implementation of orientation support. It trusts applications to rotate their own contents, if they want to. The shell doesn't reposition the panel (at the top) though, so a landscape app still has a portrait panel on the side. For proper orientation support in the shell, shell needs to know if the application wants to rotate its contents or not. To animate correctly, we really need shell to be responsible for rotating the app surface, not the app itself. Therefore an application needs to tell shell what orientations it supports, so shell can respect its wishes. A hint in the desktop file may be sufficient. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1389761] Re: Don't show the volume overlay when changing the volume with the slider
if you refer to indicator-sound with volume UI then yes ... note that the apps i mentioned above only use the implementation from https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/apps/qml/sdk-15.04/QtMultimedia.SoundEffect/ ... the role changes from the default immediately when the play() function is used, and stays changed for the duration of the sound. it might be that either our interfacing of the toolkit with the back end is broken here or the back end behaviour itself is wrong, but this kind of supports the fact that making a UI element pick the current default without the ability to override is the wrong approach. what if i want to write an app that explicitly allows modification of different volumes for different roles, i would have no way to use your slider item at all but would have to completely create custom sliders, since all of yours would forcefully just point to the default output. whatever we have in the toolkit should offer to define the role it controls (with a sane default when undefined). all i'm asking for is a way to override the default behaviour in the toolkit element, or if needed there could be a default volume slider and a customizable volume slider if you prefer to not have it in the same element. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-sound in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1389761 Title: Don't show the volume overlay when changing the volume with the slider Status in indicator-sound package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in ubuntu-system-settings package in Ubuntu: New Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The overlay and the slider are redundant when the user changes the volume with the slider and the overlay shouldn't be displayed. Oliver, you seem to be describing bug 1478506, where either the volume UIs are showing the wrong output role most of the time, or apps are using the wrong output role by default. If it turns out to be a problem with the volume UIs, it would have been easier to fix if (nearly) all of them were using a toolkit volume slider than it is now when they're all doing their own thing. I want to change the orientation according to user preference, but not have the system auto rotate, as that conflicts with using the accelerometer to control the game. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mir in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1382209 Title: [Enhancement] Add an API to lock surface orientation Status in Mir: Fix Released Status in mir package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Sometimes, applications are written to take advantage of the entire surface of screen. So they need a way to tell MIR, the orientation they want for drawing themselves. This can be portrait for some, landscape for others, or even combinations. Without this feature, portrait application get distorted when running in a landscape oriented device. So, it would be nice to have an API, in MIR client, to precisely lock the orientation of the MirSurface used for drawing. My use case is a full-screen game, that require always Portrait Orientation. Another is a full-screen game that requires always Landscape. Better (future): - allow this even for non full-screen applications - allow combination like Portait+PortraitUpsideDown, or LandscapeLeft+LandscapeRight - allow to change the orientation when the application run (so not only when creating/requesting the surface). Remarks : - touch event may need to be translated into the correct coordinates system! The scripts to install a new kernel will call grub-mkrelpath /boot and use the result to properly handle a /boot directory located in unusual locations. However they do not do any grub-mkrelpath / call at any point, and simply assumes the result is always / (with a minor exception in the case the file system is btrfs). With a bit of manual work, it is possible to configure a system where grub-mkrelpath / does not report /. However such a system will be rendered non-bootable after the next kernel update. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron 15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in gmail, by clicking on the phone icon in the left chat margin. I am a Firefox user and have not tested this with chrome etc. It has not happened if i dont install google-talkplugin so it is quite possible that the plugin is to blame. Symptom === The left mouse button on all attached mice - USB , Trackpad and touch - will not do anything however the right mouse button continues to work. This happens to all applications and also to the desktop. The keyboard continues to function as normal. When this occurs , my solution is to Alt-F4 close all windows and log out of the X session. When I re-login the left mouse button works as normal. This is an irritant and work disruptor as I have to save all browser and desktop applications to safe state before I logout to reset the mouse. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1132736] Re: Xorg fails to start after installing the hardware enablement stack on precise due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg
Timo: I don't know exactly for the 14.04.3 LTS -utopic to -vivid HWE upgrade, but I can confirm this bug is still present for the 14.04.3 LTS -trusty to -vivid HWE upgrade. I've just done a fresh install of 14.04.x LTS, using a PXE server so I'm not exactly sure what the x was in the image I used. On completion of the install and updates I was left with a 14.04.3 LTS and the original kernel and X server, i.e. linux-generic and xserver-xorg. I updated them to linux-generic-lts-vivid and xserver-xorg-lts-vivid. After purging the old xserver-xorg related packages, the /etc/X11/X link was gone. I still believe this bug should not be left unfixed, but perhaps that's just me. ** Summary changed: - Xorg fails to start after installing the hardware enablement stack on precise due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg + Xorg fails to start after installing the Hardware Enablement Stack due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1132736 Title: Xorg fails to start after installing the Hardware Enablement Stack due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in xorg-lts-trusty package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg-lts-utopic package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg-lts-vivid package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Bug: The bug happens whenever the remaining configuration files of the original X stack is removed, ie purging. It does not happen for users who do not explicitly remove those. Workaround: For example, if upgraded 14.04 LTS to the 14.04.2 HWE stack (=14.10/utopic): sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-lts-utopic This restores the symlink /etc/X11/X - /usr/bin/Xorg --- After installing the hardware enablement stack on precise by running: sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-lts-quantal Xorg fail to start. There is no error message or anything, just a black screen. Switching to a vt i possible and lightdm/x-0.log shows that a symlink is missing: X: cannot stat /etc/X11/X (No such file or directory), aborting. I updates two computers running precise x86_64 and both had the problem. Just recreating the symlink fixes the problem and then precise runs perfectly fine with the new stack (in fact, it's more stable so far). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1463846] Re: if ip is specified on cmdline, networking should be brought up in initramfs
** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1463846 Title: if ip is specified on cmdline, networking should be brought up in initramfs Status in cloud-initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: if the initramfs has 'ip=' on the cmdline, it is arguable that we should bring the respective interface up as indicated. Currently, initramfs only does this if something thinks it should. Ie, open-iscsi might do it, or some other things might call 'configure_networking'. But it seems reasonable that if the user put 'ip=' on the cmdline then they wanted that to happen in initramfs. Additionally, one feature i'd like to have (admittedly for debug purposes) is the ability to write the /run/initramfs/open- iscsi.interface file that is used at least by open-iscsi to say do not bring this interface down. I've done this before, the code to do it is available in intramfs-tools style module at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~smoser/maas/maas-pkg-test/files/head:/ephemtest-vivid/initrd-updates/ generically, it seems like it'd be nice to have a way to have the same functionality that open-iscsi.interface accomplishes but not tied to open-iscsi. Ie, the user may for any reason want to keep a network from getting re-configured by normal OS bringup. I used '/run/network/initramfs-persistent-iface' file to do that. that is explicitly to patch over an existing initramfs (no 'hooks' directory). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1432413] Re: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X
** Tags added: wily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432413 Title: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X11. I have a problem with the synaptic touch-pad on my Acer Aspire that started around a week ago. The problem can be described as that there is a massive amount of xevents being generated and appearing to originate from the touch-pad even though the touch-pad is not used. I have tested the HW which seems to work fine. The test performed is to start a terminal session (Ctrl + Alt + 2) before the fault occurs and check the xevents by running ~$ sudo evtest /dev/input/eventX where the X to use is found in /proc/bus/input/devices and found by running ~$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices |grep mouse No matter how much the touch-pad is used will the console show the corresponding events which indicates that HW and driver works OK as long it is not under X When the problem has occurred (in Desktop mode) is it easy (but inconvenient) to get back to normal by key combo Fn+F7 twice, turn off touch-pad and then turn on again. And more, one can get unlucky in the sense that the generated events could click somewhere one do not want to click. During the problem is it impossible to use the mouse since it flies around (mostly going in a bottom to top of screen direction) but one can check the generated events using evtest again. How can I help troubleshooting the problem? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1132736] Re: Xorg fails to start after installing the Hardware Enablement Stack due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg
Removed on precise from bug title because it happens on trusty too. ** Tags added: trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1132736 Title: Xorg fails to start after installing the Hardware Enablement Stack due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in xorg-lts-trusty package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg-lts-utopic package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg-lts-vivid package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Bug: The bug happens whenever the remaining configuration files of the original X stack is removed, ie purging. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1382209] Re: [Enhancement] Add an API to lock surface orientation
Added a QtMir task. The required glue may be absent. ** Also affects: qtmir (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mir in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1382209 Title: [Enhancement] Add an API to lock surface orientation Status in Mir: Fix Released Status in mir package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in qtmir package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Sometimes, applications are written to take advantage of the entire surface of screen. A few months ago, I joined a Linux user group who helped me rid my laptop of a blue screen Microsoft Windows 8.1 Operating system and install Ubuntu 14.10. This laptop has a cinnamon desktop GUI. I have been told that I must put up with the Dell HDD password dialog box on startups before I can start to enter my Ubuntu login prompt screen. The initial boot up message of ACPI PCC Probe failed occurs prior to my Dell HDD password dialog box logon password window. I will be happy to help you any way I can. I know how to access The Terminal and can do some basic navigation. However, I'm not too thrilled about my Linux user group's low level of involvement with Newbies. I wish I could get the level of training I received many years ago sitting in a classroom learning to use the Apple computer. Back in 2002, I took an introductory Red Hat Linux 6.5 2-day course at Kennesaw State University and loved it! Wish that level of live classroom computer training was in place with Ubuntu! Anyway, I'll help any way I can. This laptop is for learning, and if further issues occur, I can always use my other Windows 7 Professional Dell XPS 9100 Tower to communicate with you if necessary. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1316873] Re: Left mouse button stops working
Hi @Christopher M. Penalver(penalvch) I'm also having the same issue. So as you mentioned earlier to Matt and Mikael I have filed a new report via terminal. @ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1483116 It's just irritating always either reboot the system or log out the session. Sometimes the issue starts as soon as we started the ubuntu. JFYI - I'm using DELL n series Vostro edition along with Ubuntu 15.04 Please check. Thank you -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316873 Title: Left mouse button stops working Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops and Ubuntu versions. I will appreciate any soltion or workaround. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1467743] Re: Lots of thumbnail requests with invalid size
OK, I set it back to Confirmed. I believe the issues in comment #8 are still there. If not, someone please set me straight! :-) ** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image Status: Fix Committed = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gallery-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467743 Title: Lots of thumbnail requests with invalid size Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in gallery-app package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in thumbnailer package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When using the gallery app, the thumbnailer gets loads of requests with QSize(-1,-1), for example, when opening the gallery app. The problem with this is that the thumbnailer interprets this to mean give me the largest size you can (limited to a 1920x1920 bounding box). That's very expensive, especially in terms of disk space, because that 1920 thumbnail ends up going into the cache, needlessly hogging space. We are about to add a qWarning message to the QML side that reports invalid QSize requests. For now, we are going to retain the old behavior, but this will turn into an error soon. The most effective way to use the thumbnailer is to simply ask for an image in the desired size, with neither width nor height of -1. The thumbnailer will efficiently produce a thumbnail for that. (We do lots of internal caching to avoid extracting or downloading a thumbnail unnecessarily.) The thumbnailer may deliver a thumbnail that is smaller than what was asked for (because it never up-scales) so, if asked for a thumbnail of size 256, it's guaranteed not to be larger, but might be smaller (if the original image is smaller than what was asked for). Could you please adjust the gallery app behavior to ask for specific, valid sizes only? Running a tail -f on ~/.cache/upstart/dbus.log allows you to see the requests as they are made. Each request shows the size that was asked for. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1482957] [NEW] Ability to upgrade specific packages with apt-get (dist-)upgrade
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 dev with apt 1.0.9.10ubuntu6 and if a specific package gets upgraded with apt-get install it is also set to manual installed. Maybe apt-get (dist-)upgrade could also get the ability to upgrade specific packages but without changing this state. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1482957 Title: Ability to upgrade specific packages with apt-get (dist-)upgrade Status in apt package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 dev with apt 1.0.9.10ubuntu6 and if a specific package gets upgraded with apt-get install it is also set to manual installed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1482959] [NEW] Showing that upgrading a package with apt-get install does it also set to manual installed
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 dev with apt 1.0.9.10ubuntu6 and if a specific package gets upgraded with apt-get install it gets also set to manual installed if it is an automatic installed package but this could be unexpected for the user.
