  After applied 50 GU setting in image, we started seeing randomly
  missing Chinese characters across scopes and apps header, not clipped

Switching that one, I'm starting to get a lot of warnings in my
application related to contenthub. This is all at instantation, so
before starting any transfer. The default experience shouldn't give any
warning:

1. qml: WARNING: Header is an internal component of Ubuntu.Components
andits API may change or be removed at any moment.Please use MainView
and Page instead.

2. the activeTransfer is null by default, so the Connections will fail
in: file:///…: Unable to assign [undefined] to QObject*

Maybe we should set a default value to activeTransfer? Or any other
idea?

gnu/qt5/qml/Ubuntu/Content/ContentPeerPicker11.qml:204: TypeError:
Cannot read property 'peers' of null

I guess that's because something isn't instantiated.

  Can't import a file with the same name in a ContentStore scope

Bug description:
  Having a ContentStore for a particular scope doesn't enable to import
  more than once a file name.

  If you use:
  ContentStore {
  id: appStore
  scope: ContentScope.App
  }

  and then:
  peer.request(appStore)

  - the state transfer changed go to initiated, in progress and
  abort the second time you try to import the same file, not giving
  you even a chance to rename it.

  It doesn't only abort if the files are the same as touch foo.png for 
instance have the same effect.
  One solution would have been to keep storing in the temp directory (so no 
argument to peer.request(), grab the uri of a through an app scoped 
ContentStore and use contentitem.move() directly.

  However, this isn't possible as ContentStore.uri gives: Accessing 
ContentStore uri with NULL internal store
  and we can't access to it.

  Another reason it would be insteresting to have the ContentStore.uri
  path outside of any transfer would be to reference only relative paths
  for instance in Image {} components and so on, independant of the
  absolute full path.h

  Steps to reproduce:
  When device rotation is not locked and there are more than one tab opened in 
the browser:
  1. Go to youtube.com
  2. Tap on any video
  3. Tap on the 'full screen' button on the video
  4. Rotate the phone to landscape
  5. Tap on any control button of the video, for example the 'pause' button

  Expected result:
  Video will be paused

  What really happens:
  Browser switches to another tab

  It's annoying and happens 9 times out of 10 for me.

Thrash bin is a bit problematic since it also closes the application (at
least in unity7) if it's running. Then again if the drag to bin
functionality is used only for removing favourite status of an app
(unlocking from launcher) it is quite unintuitive that a currently
running app is not entirely removed from the launcher when dragged over
to the bin (because its instance is still running we need to have an
icon in the launcher according to the current design).

My conclusion is that the current design is the best for now considering
the world of convergence we're entering and therefore I'm closing this
bug for now.

  User testing revealed that users expected that icon could be removed
  from the launcher by longpressing an item and dragging it out of the
  launcher.

  One option would be having a trash bin appearing at the bottom of the
  Launcher (in the place normally occupied by the BFB) when a user drags
  and app icon off he launcher (or enters an edit mode to organize
  icons). The problem with this is that because user can also relocate
  an item in this mode dragging an item down to a trash bin causes item
  to go through all  different dropping positions in the actual launcher
  as well.

  Therefore one possible option would be placing the thrash bin outside
  the launcher next to the item in question.

  It is possible to move the brightness slider to the very left
  position, which will set the display brightness of affected device to
  zero, or, to total darkness.

  This is a bug, since this leads to user's inability to set the brightness 
back or, generally, to operate the device.
  There is a slight chance, though, to return the brightness back to non-zero 
value (blindly, trying by user's memory).

  Also, this gets even more problematic, if we think about a scenario, where 
such Ubuntu device is locked by a PIN.
  User has to try to unlock the device on the dark screen, open the top panel 
with settings, scroll to the far right (to access the brightness settings), and 
then trying to hit the correct slider - all on a dark screen.

  This happened on Aquaris E5.

I realize that  my Arale didn't install correct version of packages after 
perform citrain to upgrade system. 
 I tried several times  but it didn't install or upgrade those packages on 
landing-33 ppa. So the version of on the Arale is 5.4.1+dfsg-2ubuntu7.  May 
need your help to check if anything wrong of test steps. 

Steps
1. Connect my phone to a destop
2  perform 'citrain device-upgrade 33  ubuntu' 
3. Phone will be reboot after that 
4. Check the version of package and it shows   5.4.1+dfsg-2ubuntu7

  There's enormous amount of directories like systemd-private-
  fdd28b0bfe4c47808e41dbb7a0300bdc-colord.service-vrglD7 in /var/tmp

  It's clear why they are necessary but it's still looks irritating and
  is magnified (compared to /tmp for example) by the fact that /var/tmp
  is not cleaned up (and of course it shouldn't be) on every reboot.

  The solution is trivial and already employed by lots of services for
  /tmp - just prepend . to the folder name so it's hidden from user's
  file manager.

  Would be excellent if ubuntu could apply this to systemd as well: the
  lesser is chance for user confusion (those directories are
  unaccessible to the user anyway so there's little sense in showing
  them) - the better.

Bug description:
  User testing revealed that users expected that icon could be removed
  from the launcher by longpressing an item and dragging it out of the
  launcher.

  One option would be having a trash bin appearing at the bottom of the
  Launcher (in the place normally occupied by the BFB) when a user drags
  and app icon off he launcher (or enters an edit mode to organize
  icons). The problem with this is that because user can also relocate
  an item in this mode dragging an item down to a trash bin causes item
  to go through all  different dropping positions in the actual launcher
  as well.

  Therefore one possible option would be placing the thrash bin outside
  the launcher next to the item in question.

Video will be paused

What really happens:
Browser switches to another tab

It's annoying and happens 9 times out of 10 for me.

Bug description:
  Since upgrading from version 14.10 to Kubuntu 15.04, my system does
  not boot normally any more.

  Maybe it's only a stupid oversight on my part, but not being a systemd
  pro, I'm currently at a loss of how to debug this any further.

  Hints and pointers to appropriate documentation are welcome!

  Kubuntu 15.04 quickly boots to a specific point where it seems to try
  to enable a dm-crypt partition which also carries /home, beside other
  data, and simply stalls.

  I'm not asked to enter my crytpdisk password and I also cannot enter
  it blindly without being asked.

  You can see the point where it stalls in the attached screenshot
  (photo of my screen).

  I can then press Ctrl+Alt+Del to cleanly restart the system but I
  could not find a way to get beyond this point with systemd.

  Using the alternative boot option with upstart works flawlessly.
  (Although booting with this boot option is really slow and it takes a
  while to reach the graphical login screen - it basically looks as if
  the system is waiting for some name resolving timeouts during boot,
  but that's a different issue, if've not debugged it further and maybe
  it's just gone once systemd works to boot my machine.)

If you push a document that contains property being a list of strings,
like:

Retrieving it is making the attachements a ListModel through the QML
type system (outside of u1db's scope thus). The ListModel contains
ObjectModel and it's useful to attach that to Repeater/Grid.

However, when we try to store those data back (from the same object), the 
ListModel/ObjectModel aren't storable in u1db, so we end up with:

So getting the object don't enable to save it back, we have to manually
typecast it and create some json objects from it, which is quite ugly
and cumbersome:

  Unit tests fail where mouseClick() is used to simulate a click event

Bug description:
  This appears to be a regression in version 1.3 of the UITK.

  The browser has an AddressBar component which contains a TextField,
  and the secondaryItem for this TextField is a MouseArea (for toggling
  the bookmarked status of the current address). This component is unit
  tested, and there is a test that simulates a click on the
  secondaryItem to verify that the bookmarked status is correctly
  toggled.

  This test worked with version 1.2 of the UITK, but fails when I update the 
import of Ubuntu.Components to 1.3.
  It appears that the TextField itself intercepts the simulated mouse click 
event, thus getting active focus.

  Note that the component works as expected when used in an app by a
  normal user manipulating a mouse (i.e. the secondaryItem can be
  clicked and that toggles the bookmark status as expected). It’s only
  the unit tests that are failing.

  I’m suspecting that the way QtTest simulates a mouse click event
  doesn’t play well with Ubuntu.Mouse.forwardTo, although I’m not really
  sure how and why.

  where apps do not have any content in the spread overview anymore but

  the image at http://i.imgur.com/r7tnyym.png shows the issue, as you
  can see the two front apps do not have any content but show only their
  shadow ... tapping on such an app to foreground it restarts it
  properly and the content is visible in the spread again.

  i do not see this behavior on krillin..

  for now we have 'All' and 'Favorites' tabs in contacts app on phone. I think 
that will be great to allow adding custom groups (tabs) and assign people to it 
(in example 'Family', 'Coworkers', 'Suppliers', etc.). Also will be good to get 
data/sync it will Google Contacts groups. What do you think about that?

So after three days of debugging I've been able to figure out why it is
crashing, why it's random and i can provide a quick workaround in unity8
code.


## Why is it crashing? ##

The problem exists because we use the QML cache and because Qt has this
bug https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-47709

The bug in Qt means that if for types with extended properties (Image
and source in our case coming from the SDK) an Item  is created before
the type is extended, all subsquent items of the same type won't see the
extended property either.

Since we're using the QML cache this means that the code loaded from the
cache expects the extended property to be there, so when it access such
property, it will crash.


## Why is it random? ##

It's random because the QML file loading is not always done in the
*exact* same order, and thus in some cases the first Image is created in
a file that imports Ubuntu.Components and in some cases the first image
is created in a file that does not.


## How to workaround it? ##

A quick workaround is making sure  Ubuntu.Components is imported in the
first file that is imported, in unity8's case UnityInputInfo.qml that is
a singleton imported from the root file (OrientedShell.qml)

shell ls /var/crash`; if [ x$output != x ]; then break; fi; echo No crash 
files, Rebooting; adb reboot; echo Sleeping for 100 seconds; echo ; sleep 
100; done

  Will stop because crash files have been generated in about 5
  iterations

Title:
  running whoopsie during tests causes test failures

Bug description:
  I've switched the apport-noui.path systemd file from:

  PathChanged=/var/crash

  to

  PathExistsGlob=/var/crash/*.crash

  I've done this because with PathChanged it seemed to me that the
  whoopsie-upload-all, called by apport-noui.service, would be called
  when any file (e.g. .upload, .uploaded) were created in /var/crash.
  Naturally, this seemed excessive to me and PathExistsGlob seems like a
  better fit.  Additionally, it is worth noting that the following from
  the systemd.path documentation:

  If a path already exists (in case of PathExists= and PathExistsGlob=)
  or a directory already is not empty (in case of DirectoryNotEmpty=) at
  the time the path unit is activated, then the configured unit is
  immediately activated as well. Something similar does not apply to
  PathChanged= and PathModified=.

  Given that it appears with PathChanged the apport-noui service would
  never be run during boot up, again not what we want.

  However, making these changes seems to have caused some strange test
  failures with the apport's tests.

  In my address book I have two contacts with very similar numbers.
  (last 6 digits changed in the example)

  Person A:  +352 661 123456
  Person B:  +352 691 123456

  When I receive a call or try to compose a message to Person B, the
  phone always displays the name of Person A. The same happens in call
  records.

  The only way to have the name of Person B displayed upon calls or
  message sending is to delete Person A from the address book.

  This is very strange, because phone numbers are prefix codes, thus
  ignoring a leading digit in a phone number seems like the wrongest
  thing to do in this context.

  The bug is still present in the current MX4 image (revision 3)

+1 on Ondrej's comment.

The wizard UI imply that GPS is less accurate, which  is simply
misleading if the user has no knowledge on GPS fix. Even the user know
about GPS fix, there is no other UI indicate the phone has locked the
GPS.

To make sure setting more friendly, my suggestion is
O High accuracy (Using GPS, anonymized Wi-Fi and cellular network info)
O Power saving (Using anonymized Wi-Fi and cellular network info)
O Device only (Using only GPS, without sharing network info for privacy)
O Disable Location Service

Does it make sense to user, and explain a bit more why a user need to
make a choice ?

  First boot welcome wizard in location sections claims GPS is less accurate 
than network based location service from HERE.
  While this can be theoretically true in some insane corner case, in normal 
life GPS is far more accurate.

  To help form correct text here are main differences.

  GPS - more accurate, but slow to acquire fix, does not work indoors,
  drains battery more, no need for internet connection, does not send
  any data out.

  Network based location - almost instant to get coarse location, works
  indoors, accuracy depends on network coverage in the area, more power
  efficient, requires internet connection. To get location data about
  visible GSM network and wifi networks needs to be send to 3rd party
  server.

files, Rebooting; adb reboot; echo Sleeping for 100 seconds; echo ; sleep 
100; done

  Will stop because crash files have been generated in about 5
  iterations

It is now the case that if Unity8 detects a keyboard it will
automatically hide the OSK and stop it from appearing. This includes the
simulated keyboard used by Autopilot.

Now that textfield.write() supports using OSK, we should remove all
instances of the autopilot simulated keyboard when the OSK is being
used. The simulated keyboard is currently used to send Home and End key
events to move the cursor to the start or end of a string, because these
keys are not present on the OSK.

Some new helper methods in ubuntu_keyboard now allow the Home and End
key events to be sent through the maliit-server without having to create
a new simulated keyboard, which would cause Unity8 to hide the OSK. So
the textfield helper methods should be updated to use the new helpers
from ubuntu_keyboard and remove usage of the autopilot simulated
keyboard when the OSK is being used.

  or a right click on e.g. a hyperlink) and for bookmark options when
  bookmarking a page.

  Bookmark options look okayish, but context menus are much too narrow,
  resulting in some entries not being entirely readable (see attached
  screenshot), especially in languages that are more verbose than
  English.

I am unsure if the bug is with openssh sftp client or within openssh-
sftp-server

When traversing an sftp server, I encounter issues for files and, in
particular, directories containing the character ]. Tab completion
does not escape the character in sftp shell, however, in bash it will
escape the character for tab completion. If I cd into a directory that
contains the character I cannot get any files with in that directory and
I have to rename the directory outside of the sftp shell to remove the
character in order to be able to correctly get files.

Thank you for using Ubuntu and filing a bug. I don't see this here (just
tested in an up to date vivid VM-- add a rule, reboot, firewall is up).
ufw does not support ULOG so I'm not sure why the lack of kernel config
would have this effect. Can you run this command on the affected system:
'apport-collect 1483637'? Also, can you attach the output of 'sudo
/usr/share/ufw/check-requirements'?

  I just switched to the vivid kernel and it seems that because this
  kernel config: CONFIG_IP_NF_TARGET_ULOG is missing ufw service doesn't
  get started. Is there a workaround for this? We don't compile our own
  kernels so removing that re-enabling that config sadly won't be an
  option.

  concretely QML applications receive a signal that
  Qt.application.active has changed to 'false'.

  This is will be an issue for example in the case of the camera-app
  trying to start recording a video, a pulseaudio trusted prompt will
  show up to ask for permission to record from the microphone but the
  camera-app believing that it's become inactive will immediately stop
  the recording.

  systemd causes mess in /var/tmp

  There's enormous amount of directories like systemd-private-
  fdd28b0bfe4c47808e41dbb7a0300bdc-colord.service-vrglD7 in /var/tmp

  It's clear why they are necessary but it's still looks irritating and
  is magnified (compared to /tmp for example) by the fact that /var/tmp
  is not cleaned up (and of course it shouldn't be) on every reboot.

  The solution is trivial and already employed by lots of services for
  /tmp - just prepend . to the folder name so it's hidden from user's
  file manager.

  Would be excellent if ubuntu could apply this to systemd as well: the
  lesser is chance for user confusion (those directories are
  unaccessible to the user anyway so there's little sense in showing

Public bug reported:

I recently updated all the imports of Ubuntu.Components (and submodules)
to 1.3 in webbrowser-app. One visible side-effect of that is that
popovers have become much narrower than they used to be. The browser app
uses popovers for context menus (triggered by a long press or a right
click on e.g. a hyperlink) and for bookmark options when bookmarking a
page.

Bookmark options look okayish, but context menus are much too narrow,
resulting in some entries not being entirely readable (see attached
screenshot), especially in languages that are more verbose than English.

To support a converged desktop scenario, the browser user agent string
needs to be recalculated as the form factor changes. Currently it is
set, according to a set of heuristics, at startup time, and not re-
evaluated during the lifetime of the browser app.

There are some more aspects to that bug.

1. What are the heuristics for determining the form-factor, and which
form factors to support? Ideally, this is an SDK API we can just re-use.

2. When should the UA be updated? Again, ideally this would be on form
factor changes, based on a signal. So which service will deliver that
signal?

3. The overrides need also to be dynamic as well, so how many sets are
supported, ie depending on the set of form factors supported, we need as
many overrides

4. This extends to not only webbrowser-app but more importantly webapp-
container, where overrides are a lot more widespread, and not centrally
maintained

5. When the UA and / or the form factor changes, parts of webbrowser-app
or webapp-container may want to further react, for example to reload the
page.

  concretely QML applications receive a signal that
  Qt.application.active has changed to 'false'.

  This is will be an issue for example in the case of the camera-app
  trying to start recording a video, a pulseaudio trusted prompt will
  show up to ask for permission to record from the microphone but the
  camera-app believing that it's become inactive will immediately stop
  the recording.

  Reproduce:
  1. Open Messaging App
  2. Start a conversation
  3. Tap messaging area to show keyboard
  4. Tap camera icon
  5. Take picture and accept it

  What happens:
  Keyboard goes away and does not come back when focusing the text input.

  What should happen:
  The keyboard should function normally

  Note: only a reboot seems to fix this

  I love the left swipe, being able to go back to the main menu by doing a full 
swipe to the left is great.
  However my list of apps has considerably increased \o/ and i usually search 
them via the search button and this is where the problem lies. A full left 
swipe does not bring me back to the main menu but to the  last searched app if 
i opened my app through the search menu

  As an example
  Step 1 go to apps scope on main menu
  step 2 search music app via the search button ( type music)
  step 3 open music app
  step 4 do a full left swippe

  I should expect to being brought back to app scope.
  == Full left swipe brings me back to results of step 2

  Desired design solution:

  Long left edge swipe or BFB click on the launcher takes user back to apps 
scope (or leftmost scope in the dash). It also resets the search query and
  positions the list in the beginning.

When a trusted prompt shows up the application becomes inactive,
concretely QML applications receive a signal that Qt.application.active
has changed to 'false'.

This is will be an issue for example in the case of the camera-app
trying to start recording a video, a pulseaudio trusted prompt will show
up to ask for permission to record from the microphone but the camera-
app believing that it's become inactive will immediately stop the
recording.

  What should happen: The sound menu stays open.

  One solution would be to make the volume slider vertical. But this
  would not work for other menus (like the Bluetooth menu), and would
  look awkward with other items in the menu.

  Another solution would be to use a timer for closing the current menu
  and opening a new one. This is what Windows does for submenus. But it
  has the drawback of slowing down browsing, which would be worse for
  top-level menus than for submenus.

  GTK already has a more sophisticated solution for submenus, similar to Mac 
OS: a triangle based on the corners of the submenu and its parent item, in 
which there is a much longer delay for closing the submenu and changing the 
menu selection.
