[Touch-packages] [Bug 1485248] Re: No hardware acceleration out-of-the-box with Intel HD GPU
It may not ve very powerful but it's definitely more powerful than that. Look at this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-Benchmarked.73567.0.html On Windows, they get around 30-40 fps with several videogames which render much complex scenes than the ones that yield me 18 or less. And 60fps is what your panel refresh rate is. I don't get why that should be a limit. There's a GpuTest tool that renders a single big triangle, and this gets around 1000 fps. By the way, it consumes 50% cpu (i.e. one full core), showing that it's not using any hardware acceleration, and that's rendering one triangle. Not software rendered: [32;01myes[00m Not blacklisted: [32;01myes[00m ... Is that reliable? Is there a benchmarking tool that can draw graphics and actually tell me whether all of those feature are being used from the GPU? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1485248 Title: No hardware acceleration out-of-the-box with Intel HD GPU Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I don't know whether I am reporting this against the right package. I have an acer laptop with these GPUs: - GPU0: Intel HD Graphics 4000 (M) - GPU1: NVIDIA GeForce GT 710M with Optimus technology. I know getting the NVidia card to work is as complicated as hell, so I gave up on that. However, I expect the Intel GPU to work at its full potential out of the box. Instead, I ran several benchmark test tools and they perform very poorly, indicating that everything is being rendered by software. On moderately complex 3D graphics tests I get frame rates around 18fps, while on the most trivial tests (like a rotating horse with no texture whatsoever) I get 60fps at most. By googling around I've found some how-to's for getting hardware acceleration to work, but they are either unclear or incomplete or they contraddict one another, and none of them is official. I shouldn't be supposed to do perform complicated installations and configurations. Support for all the available hardware acceleration power, at least on the integrated GPU, should work right out of the box. When bluetooth is on, I expect to go into the indicator/system settings and turn the switch off, the switch will go gray and the bluetooth indicator will hide and bluetooth is disabled. After running the entire test suite and getting those failures, if I swipe from the right edge to reveal the list of running apps, I’m seeing semi-transparent black surfaces (see attached screenshot). Their number seems to be the same as the number of failures. I can swipe them down to close them. Note that the webbrowser_app test suite doesn’t exhibit this issue, only the webapp_container suite (which has a total of 20 tests). The changes between image #91 and image #92 are the following: http://people.canonical.com/~lzemczak/landing-team/ubuntu-touch/rc- proposed/92.commitlog. I’m initially filing this bug against webbrowser-app (as it is the source package for webapp-container), but the issue likely lies elsewhere, as there was no webbrowser-app update between those two images. The C++11 ABI has now stabilized in gcc as of gcc 5; however, before we can switch to gcc 5, we first need to be able to do rebuild tests of the archive against this compiler. To facilitate this, please drop the build-dependency on g++-4.9 from the package in wily. 4.9 will remain the default until all transition issues have been identified, so there is no risk of accidental ABI breakage here anymore. From the remote end the call just continues to ring and eventually goes to voicemail. When this occurs the signal strength appears to have at least 3 bars. It seems ofono is not notifying the upper layers that a call is incoming. This can be verifed by running the following command: dbus-monitor --system | grep CallAdded This never gets fired during error condition when the incoming call is ringing from remote end. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1403758] Re: Unity8 shows black screen with Qt 5.4.0
Just to collect information in this bug, the fPIC requirement and fPIE banning in Qt now is because of this: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=65886 This bug originally however is about a problem that shows up when that related Bsymbolic option is enabled on armhf too. This needed forcing but we forced it at one point since it was believed the toolchain bug was fixed. However, for now it remains disabled on non-x86 (the default of Qt upstream) because of the persisting bug, but it may be re-enabled later if the bug is resolved. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1485719] Re: Uninitialized struct field in the fix for CVE-2015-5600 causes random auth failures
That package works on my test box. Thanks Marc! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1485719 Title: Uninitialized struct field in the fix for CVE-2015-5600 causes random auth failures Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in openssh source package in Precise: Confirmed Status in openssh source package in Trusty: Confirmed Status in openssh source package in Vivid: Confirmed Status in openssh source package in Wily: Fix Released Bug description: In Ubuntu 12.04, the fix for CVE-2015-5600[1] just hit upstream in package openssh-server_5.9p1-5ubuntu1.6, breaking authentication mechanisms that rely on the keyboard-interactive method. This patch introduces the field 'devices_done' to the KbdintAuthctxt struct, but does not initialize the field in the kbdint_alloc() function. On Linux, this ends up filling that field with junk data. The attached patch against adds the initialization of the `devices_done` field alongside the existing initialization code. This has also been reported upstream. Reproducing: Install openssh-server_5.9p1-5ubuntu1.6 Add an authentication mechanism that uses the keyboard-interactive method (like libpam-google-authenticator) Attempt to log in via the above mechanism. Instead of consistently prompting the user for input, it will sometimes fall straight through to password auth because the devices_done bit field is initialized with garbage data. Downgrading to openssh-server_5.9p1-5ubuntu1.4 solves the issue. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1485984] Re: webbrowser_app.tests.test_selection.TestSelection.* flaky since oxide 1.8
When the error happens, the selection rectangle isn’t drawn on screen. The webview has registered a long press event though, as evidenced by this log: WebContextMenu::Show: Content requested a context menu, but the application hasn't provided one Testing manually in the browser, the selection rectangle appears reliably on long press, so it seems to be an issue with the tests only, not with the functionality itself. On devices, the way the autopilot tests simulate a long press event to summon the selection rectangle is like this: webview = self.main_window.get_current_webview() self.pointing_device.move_to_object(webview) self.pointing_device.press() time.sleep(1.5) self.pointing_device.release() I tested various values for time.sleep() (increased it and decreased it), to no avail. Actual outcome: The current scope will immediately be closed and the first (main) scope (typically the app scope on devel-images and the Today scope on RTM) will be shown. If I understand the current design guidelines correctly this is the expected behaviour for a full left-to-right swipe, but not for a short swipe from the left to invoke the launcher. This behaviour can be observed on both the current devel-proposed and RTM images. - Desired UX - Don't trigger the go to home action yet when the long swipe is started but when user releases the finger and all the long swipe parameters are fulfilled (distance threshold and direction) - Also trigger go to home action when any other scope is focused. Currently action is triggered only when app is focused and when a child scope is focused but not when one of the dash scopes is focused. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1440360] Re: Incomplete long-left swipe resets dash
The reporter is correct with this one. The long left edge swipe action (currently focusing to the left most scope if I remember correctly) should not be triggered until user actually performs the long left edge swipe and releases it towards right. In the current implementation this is the case when an application is focused but when a child scope is focused action is triggered as soon as user swipe passes the launcher edge i.e. when the long swipe gesture starts. And that's why it can be accidentally triggered when intention was just to open the launcher. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Assignee: Paty Davila (dizzypaty) = Vesa Rautiainen (vesar) ** Description changed: Steps to reproduce the issue: 1 - open e.g. Ubuntu Store scope (from the app scope) or Youtube scope (from the video scope) 2 - (shortly) swipe from the left to invoke launcher Expected outcome: The launcher can be used to open a pinned app (while the current scope is still kept in the background) or dismissed to return to the current scope. + + - + Desired UX + + - Don't trigger the go to home action yet when the long swipe is + started but when user releases the finger and all the long swipe + parameters are fulfilled (distance threshold and direction) + + - Also trigger go to home action when any other scope is focused. + Currently action is triggered only when app is focused and when a child + scope is focused but not when one of the dash scopes is focused. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Triaged = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440360 Title: Incomplete long-left swipe resets dash Status in Ubuntu UX: Fix Committed Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Steps to reproduce the issue: 1 - open e.g. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1477086] Re: DBus 1.10
As far as I'm concerned, ship it! (Subject to whatever QA is needed within Ubuntu.) I'm glad the delta has got smaller. If you badly need 1.10.0 tomorrow, that can happen. It will likely be functionally identical to 1.9.20, so that should be an easy freeze exception in any case. Regarding your changes: The patch for LP: #1438612 was rejected upstream: Lennart said it's wrong, and the systemd author's opinion seems relevant here. Accordingly, I'm not going to take that in Debian or upstream. If it's necessary in Ubuntu, that's your call. dbus.user-session.upstart seems way more complicated than it needs to be, but it's what you have now, so it isn't going to be any worse than 1.8. User session bits for future reference: If Upstart is still a first class citizen, and you only need one socket per XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, I would recommend using unix:path=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/bus like dbus-user-session does under systemd, instead of doing weird things with abstract sockets. libdbus, sd-bus and recent (2.45.x) GLib will try that address by default if DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is not set, although I still recommend setting it for backwards compat. If you have a requirement for multiple login sessions (with their own buses) per XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, you could use the closest possible, unix:path=$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/$YOUR_SESSION_ID.bus or $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/login-$YOUR_SESSION_ID/bus or something. In the systemd --user world, I recommend the new dbus-user-session package as the best way to get a bus per XDG_RUNTIME_DIR. It is currently useless on non-systemd, but should be harmless there. I do not plan to support dbus-launch on non-X11, and I hope it can wither into irrelevance over time. I would like to be able to say that Wayland and Mir systems will always use XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/bus for their D-Bus socket. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to dbus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1477086 Title: DBus 1.10 Status in dbus package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: We should move to dbus 1.10 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/dbus/dbus/tree/NEWS upstream recommend that we package release candidates in the distro. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1133794] Re: Printer not detected by system-config-printer 1.3.11 in Lubuntu 13.04
** Tags added: lubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1133794 Title: Printer not detected by system-config-printer 1.3.11 in Lubuntu 13.04 Status in cups package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in lubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in cups source package in Raring: Won't Fix Status in lubuntu-meta source package in Raring: Invalid Status in system-config-printer source package in Raring: Invalid Bug description: 1) Raring daily Lubuntu 13.04 i386 2) system-config-printer 1.3.11 3) I expected the printer to be detected without a cups error. The printer was not detected. 4) 1) When selecting Printer from the System Tools menu the Printers-localhost dialog box appears with the following message. 'Printing service not available. Start the service on this computer or connect to another server.' 2) After clicking the connect button once the 'Connect to CUPS server' box appears. 3) After clicking the connect button on this message box the Cups server error box appears with the following dialog. There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'failed to connect to server'. [IMPACT] As the standard installation of Lubuntu does not include avahi-daemon CUPS does not get started as the Upstart script for CUPS requires avahi-daemon to be started first. Therefore there is no printing functionality for Lubuntu users even with the printing stack being installed by default. [TESTCASE] Do a standard installation of Lubuntu and run lpstat -r in a terminal. The CUPS daemon is not running. The proposed package adds a dependency to the cups-daemon binary package pulling in avahi-daemon and so CUPS will start during boot. Check with lpstat -r in a terminal window. [Regression Potential] Low. An additional package gets installed, but this package is already well-known and work well in other Ubuntu flavors. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1162858] Re: ubuntu-desktop should depend on ubuntu-standard should depend on ubuntu-minimal
** Changed in: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162858 Title: ubuntu-desktop should depend on ubuntu-standard should depend on ubuntu-minimal Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Background: I like aptitude, especially its ability to flag some packages as automatically installed (as the result a dependencies). Those packages are proposed for removal as soon as no manually installed package depend on them. So the first thing I do after installing a fresh Ubuntu is to * install aptitude * mark all packages as automatically installed * (this is result in a proposal to remove all packages, which is logical) * mark back a minimal number of packages as manually installed so that all packages are kept After a fresh install of raring ringtail (beta), here are the package that need to be marked as manually installled * grub-efi * libreoffice-help-en-us * linux-generic * ubuntu-desktop * ubuntu-minimal * ubuntu-standard * ubuntu-restricted-addons * hyphen-en-us * mythes-en-us * openoffice.org-hyphenation * language-pack-gnome-en * thunderbird-locale-en-us * flashplugin-installer It seems to me that 1/ there are too much of them, and 2/ some of them might even not need to be there (openoffice??). Namely, why does ubuntu-desktop not depend on ubuntu-minimal and ubuntu-standard? Why does ubuntu-minimal not depend on linux-generic? Why does flashplugin-installer not depend on ubuntu-restricted-addons? Why does grub-efi not depend on other grub-related packages (which are already pulled by another package)? I understand that my use case is probably quite rare. However, I think it would be a better design in general to have the initial dependency graph cleaner, i.e. with a minimal number of sources. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1480411] Re: rm -r * fails to delete directories when using overlayfs in a user-namespace
I don't quite get the point underlying Serge's preceding comment, so I'll describe the problem I'm experiencing with lxc and see whether Serge classifies it as a bug. On an ubuntu-vivid (amd64) host, create an unprivileged vivid container named 'vivid', lxc-create -n vivid -t download -- -d ubuntu -r vivid -a amd64 Start and attach to the container and create foo/bar.txt . Stop the container. Then form a second container named vivid_overlay, lxc-clone -s -B overlayfs vivid vivid_overlay Start and attach to vivid_overlay. Delete bar.txt (this should succeed). Attempt to delete foo. I get Operation not permitted, even as root in the container. (The patch is at, http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu- vivid.git/commit/?id=78ec45495b15d27d4cc6d05cc454e30ec5b587ea) The bug occurs regardless of whether the filesystem underlying overlayfs is tmpfs or ext4. The bug also occurs when running ubuntu 15.04 (ubuntu vivid) in a virtual machine (qemu-system-x86_64). The host is ubuntu 14.04.2 with the default 3.13 kernel. A script which reproduces the bug is attached and is also available at http://paste.ubuntu.com/11974137/ Hardware: intel core2 duo processor in a macbook-4.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1480411/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1133794] Re: Printer not detected by system-config-printer 1.3.11 in Lubuntu 13.04
I believe the fix was to have cups depend on avahi-daemon, so no change in lubuntu-meta was necessary. ** Changed in: lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Invalid ** Changed in: lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Assignee: Julien Lavergne (gilir) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1133794 Title: Printer not detected by system-config-printer 1.3.11 in Lubuntu 13.04 Status in cups package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in lubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in system-config-printer package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in cups source package in Raring: Won't Fix Status in lubuntu-meta source package in Raring: Invalid Status in system-config-printer source package in Raring: Invalid Bug description: 1) Raring daily Lubuntu 13.04 i386 2) system-config-printer 1.3.11 3) I expected the printer to be detected without a cups error.
