Bug description:
I am building an app for patients, nurses and doctors that is capable
of reading a database and interacting with it, i.e.: modifying it,
having levels of permission so there is no abuses, having changes
recorded as "user did this" so there's responsibilitiy... In short,
making a hospital work with an app that is in phones, tablets and
desktops. This would require a secure connection and, in some (not to
say many) countries, VPN is needed since HTTPS or other secure
protocols are not supported, but VPN is used in hospitals as the
secure system. Since there is no VPN support, this app will not be
ready to function in a place where only VPN is supported.

This is one of the reasons I think VPN support is important, since
there are applications that require it to be international and secure,
and, without it, this internationalitation would be limited to the
  country's possibilities.

  Dear all,

This bug report is in direct reference to the conversation at
  bugzilla.gnome.org [1].

There I was told that the GTK File Chooser dialog has a function under
"Recently Used" to directly access the source folder.

However, in Ubuntu 15.10 I cannot find this option.

Is this function not available yet because Ubuntu 15.10 uses a
  different version of GTK?

Is this function thus something that will be available in future
  Ubuntu releases?

  Thankfully,

  ~ Robert

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529592] Re: Accelerometer has an offset

2015-12-28 Thread Uranicus
Thanks to SturmFlut I can report how to solve this "bug".

It is a simple calibration thing users can fix themselves. The BQ
Aquaris Phones have a Factory Modus where you can check several hardware
features of the phone and can perform several tests. One of the tests is
the accelerometer test. When you mark the test as fail you get into a
sub-menu where one can calibrate the sensor. If you then place it on a
flat surface and clear the calibration data you can recalibrate it.

This solves the above reported issue.

How to get to the facory modus?

Turn your phone off. Turn it back on while keeping "volume down" +
"power on" pressed. You then get into the "facory modus". Release the
buttons and navigate through the facory modus with volume up & down
(select item) + power on (enter).

Can someone please close this bug?

Title:
  Accelerometer has an offset

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Summary:
The accelerometer data is in detail not correct. This is either a specific
hardware bug of my phone, the Aquaris 4.5 or all Aquaris phones or this is a
software bug in reading the accelerometer data of the sensor.

This might also be a root cause of bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1474225

  My phone:

  current build number: 28
  device name: krillin
  channel: ubuntu-touch/stable/bq-aquaris.en
  last update: 2015-12-16 12:25:08
  version version: 28
  version ubuntu: 20151210
  version tag: OTA-8.5
  version device: 20150821-736d127
  version custom: 2015--36-46-vivid

  Task 1:
I have attached a screenshot of the app "Level". I have placed the phone on a
surface which is leveled quite well.
  Expectation 1:
The app level shows that the surface is leveled and the red dot is in the
middle.
  Result 1:
The red dot shows an offset of about 0.5 - 1 degree to "bottom left". This
might be caused by a not fully leveled surface.

  Task 2:
I have turned the phone by 90°
  Expectation 2:
The red dot moves by 90° in the direction I turn the phone.
  Result 2:
The red dot stays in exactly the same position (in relation to the
orientation of the phone): bottom left. This means that a second screen shot
would show exactly the same picture eventhough I have turned the phone by 90°.

  Task 3:
I used "Sensor Status" - Accelerometer and I made 5 screen shots where I
placed the phone on the same leveled surface and rotated the phone to 0°, 90°,
180°, 270°, 360°.
  Expectation3:
The calculation of the angles of the 5 screen shots should give 4 different
angles differing each by approx. 90°.
  Result3:

Results of the „Sensor Status“ Accelerometer of the BQ Aquaris 4.5 lying on a
flat surface

angle of the phonex y calculated angle
  0 -0,421 -0,277 -146,66

  90-0,43 -0,335 -142,08

  180 -0,43 -0,316 -143,69

  270 -0,44 -0,306 -145,18

  0 -0,44 -0,296 -146,07

I have also attached the 5 screen shots and the Calc file with the
background how I came to these results.

This clearly shows that the accelerometer has an offset. This is
either a specific hardware bug of my phone, the Aquaris 4.5 or all
Aquaris phones or this is a software bug in reading the accelerometer
  data of the sensor.

  Uranicus

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529592] [NEW] Accelerometer has an offset

2015-12-28 Thread Uranicus
Public bug reported:

Summary:
The accelerometer data is in detail not correct. This is either a specific
hardware bug of my phone, the Aquaris 4.5 or all Aquaris phones or this is a
software bug in reading the accelerometer data of the sensor.

This might also be a root cause of bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1474225

My phone:

current build number: 28
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/stable/bq-aquaris.en
last update: 2015-12-16 12:25:08
version version: 28
version ubuntu: 20151210
version tag: OTA-8.5
version device: 20150821-736d127
version custom: 2015--36-46-vivid

Task 1:
I have attached a screenshot of the app "Level". I have placed the phone on a
surface which is leveled quite well.
Expectation 1:
The app level shows that the surface is leveled and the red dot is in the
middle.
Result 1:
The red dot shows an offset of about 0.5 - 1 degree to "bottom left". This
might be caused by a not fully leveled surface.

Task 2:
I have turned the phone by 90°
Expectation 2:
The red dot moves by 90° in the direction I turn the phone.
Result 2:
The red dot stays in exactly the same position (in relation to the orientation
of the phone): bottom left. This means that a second screen shot would show
exactly the same picture eventhough I have turned the phone by 90°.

Task 3:
I used "Sensor Status" - Accelerometer and I made 5 screen shots where I placed
the phone on the same leveled surface and rotated the phone to 0°, 90°, 180°,
270°, 360°.
Expectation3:
The calculation of the angles of the 5 screen shots should give 4 different
angles differing each by approx. 90°.
Result3:

Results of the „Sensor Status“ Accelerometer of the BQ Aquaris 4.5 lying on a
flat surface

angle of the phone x y calculated angle
0 -0,421 -0,277 -146,66

90 -0,43 -0,335 -142,08

180 -0,43 -0,316 -143,69

270 -0,44 -0,306 -145,18

0 -0,44 -0,296 -146,07

I have also attached the 5 screen shots and the Calc file with the
background how I came to these results.

This clearly shows that the accelerometer has an offset. This is either
a specific hardware bug of my phone, the Aquaris 4.5 or all Aquaris
phones or this is a software bug in reading the accelerometer data of
the sensor.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529612] [NEW] Xorg server randomly hangs without response

2015-12-28 Thread alex
Public bug reported:

Xorg server handomly hangs in unknown conditions.

How to reproduce: dont know. Just hangs randomly. It is likely more
often when playing youtube video in chromium-browser.

Conditions: bug was in Unity session and in OpenBox as well, so it is
not a Unity bug. Bug is also reproducible with `startx`, mean launching
X session not wih display manager but login in console and run `startx`.

How it looks like: screen just hangs, but the mouse cursor is moving. No
one window react to mouse clicks or key press. Global keys (window
managaer's) don't work also. The only way to switch to anouther tty,
login as root and restart display manager.

Currently X servers are run as root means a large complex process has

an unprivileged user or in the session they are being used in.

Logind provides a system for sharing access to the display and input
devices so this can be done - this seems like the most likely
  implementation of non-root X.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1479045] Re: E: Method gave invalid 103 Redirect message

2015-12-28 Thread Justin Kremer
Unfortunately, I just ran into this, too. I am running Ubuntu 15.10 with apt
Version: 1.0.10.2ubuntu1 which is slightly newer than the version originally
reported.
I have no idea about apt 1.1 in 16.04.
I was able to work around by only removing /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/*
Let me know if any additional information would be helpful. I found this while
searching for the issue because I couldn't find any errors or logs that gave me
very useful information. I was originally using 'apt-get update' in a terminal,
and the Software & Updates preference pane gave the same error and told me to
check my Internet connection. (haha)

This has been happening for a long time, possibly years and I was

I have learned that workaround for this issue is `cd

The mediaplayer app doesn't have the key "X-Ubuntu-Touch=true" in its
.desktop file. That causes unity8 to recognize it as legacy app and it
will trigger a warning message when it's running while leaving
windowed mode. Soon unity8 will also prevent running legacy apps in
  staged mode.

We either need to implement a proper way to allow hiding things from
the apps scope or figure something else to determine if an app is
supporting the Ubuntu touch life cycle.

  1. Hold down Alt and keep it held down.
  2. Press and release the key above Tab (Grave, or `). Keep alt held down.

While Alt is held down, the drop shadows for the window or windows of
the current application will keep building up and then going back to
normal and building up again. It's almost as though the windows are
being redrawn may times per second into a buffer without clearing it
first each time (but clearing it every second or so).

While this is happening, I notice that the drop shadow for the top bar
does the same thing. This can also be observed if one uses Alt-Tab to
select an app that has multiple windows that then expand out into a
  similar display.

I've observed this on systems with Intel, NVIDIA, and ATI display hardware,
so I don't think it's hardware-specific.
All my Ubuntu systems have 2 or 3 monitors. I suspect multiple monitors are
needed to reproduce this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2015-12-28 Thread Greyed
4+ years and still not fixed. And no, to the many people who have
listed how to "fix" it via apt commands, that is not a fix, that is a
kludge. APT (in its myriad forms) is a package manager. That means
these kernel packages should be managed. So here are the facts.

1: Ubuntu now suggests for partitioning a tiny /boot partition.
2: Ubuntu now pushes out several minor kernel updates per month.
3: Those kernel updates do not clean up after themselves.

Add those three together and it means every Ubuntu user will, I stress
WILL, run into this problem in short order.

This is a core package, it is a managed package, this problem should be
MANAGED, not kludged. But all I see in going back through the history
of this bug is two things which should not be happening.

1: The bug being assigned out to someone only to be assigned to nobody right
after it.
2: People disparaging others for wanting the issue resolved.

When generating a new initramfs there is no check for available free
space, subsequently its possible for update-initramfs to fail due to a
lack of free space. This is resulting in package installation
  failures for initramfs-tools. For example:

  Setting up initramfs-tools (0.98.8ubuntu3) ...

subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

  WORKAROUND:

Remove unused kernels using computer janitor (not in repositories for
14.04 or later) or manually free space on your partition containing
  the /boot file system.

2- The partition is not automatically mounted
3- Trying to manually mount the partition via the terminal shows this output:
  mount: unknown filesystem type 'exfat'

  Steps to fix the issue:
  1- Install packages exfat-fuse and exfat-utils

exFAT pendrives are more and more common in newer devices, and this
issue is not easily fixable by the average John Doe. We should add the
two packages above to the seeds and grant default support to our

[meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529624] [NEW] Lenovo E50-80 inverted microphone not detected properly

2015-12-28 Thread Andrzej Mendel
Public bug reported:

System: Lenovo E50-80 with Ubuntu 15.10. Tested with both kernel
4.2.0-22-generic from official repos and 4.4.0-040400rc6-generic from
Mainline Kernel repo.

Alsa information: http://www.alsa-
project.org/db/?f=3088f82a0cf977855f92af9db8ad406c04f71efa

Internal microphone does not pick up sound by default. When I mute one
channel, it works (this is not a good workaround since some application,
such as Facebook Messenger, unmute both channels and set them to the
same level automatically).

Adding model=inv-dmic to snd-hda-intel module options does not change a
thing.

Hope that helps, tell me if you need more info.

Title:
Call notifications for incoming calls appear twice

Status in telephony-service package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have a bq Aquaris 4.5 (only 1 sim card used).

  OS: Ubuntu 14.10 (r21)
  Ubuntu Image part: 20150410.1
Ubuntu build: Ubuntu Utopic Unicorn (development branch) - armhf
(20150410-232623)
  Device Image part: 20150408-4f14058

  What I expect to happen:
One call notification per incoming call

  What happens instead:
Call notifications for incoming calls appear twice (see attached screen shot)

Same happens for sms as reported under
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/messaging-app/+bug/1439958.
Not sure if those 2 issues are related.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1496577] Re: xmalloc.c: Assertion 'size > 0' failed at pulse/xmalloc.c:60

2015-12-28 Thread JustMax
Am I right that is means that bis bug will not be fixed in 15.10? Is it
Ubuntu philosophy that all bug that are "not a 'security' problem" will
not be fixed until the next release?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529696] [NEW] AppArmor problem with Brother binary drivers for MFC-9340CDW

2015-12-28 Thread Daniel Miller
Public bug reported:

Seeing "denied" in logs for AppArmor/cups when using the Brother binary
drivers for MFC-9340CDW. Possibly related - printer intermittently

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi all,
I would like to report that the back light of the display doesn't come back
on after the computer has been in sleep or display off mode. It initially
came back on to allow me to unlock the account / log back in, then it turned
off and stayed like that. The windows are displaying correctly, so using the
desk lamp as light source I could log out and back in again, to no avail.
Re-start and all is happy, but power save again, and darkness surrounds you.
