[Touch-packages] [Bug 1576341] Re: fails in lxd container

2017-01-14 Thread Serge Hallyn
Seems like just adding

ConditionVirtualization=!container

to debian//open-iscsi.service should fix it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1645232] Re: e2fsprogs - could not preserve ACL permissions : The getxattr() returns with (EINVAL)

2017-01-14 Thread Theodore Ts'o
Thanks for the patch; it definitely helps identify the problem. I don't
think it is a completely correct change, however.

The problem is that it's doing the translation in
write_xattrs_to_buffer(), but it is not making the translation in the
opposite direction in read_xattrs_to_buffer(). This means if some
other program using this library function --- for example, fuse2fs,
reads in an existing xattr block with an ACL, it will read it the on-
disk format, _not_ translate it to a standard acl format, and then
write_xattrs_to_buffer() will take as input an acl encoded in the on-
disk format, and then try to convert it from lgetxattr format to on-disk
format again, and Much Hilarity will result.

I also wonder if write_xattrs_to_buffer() is the right place to make
this conversion, or rather ext2fs_{read,write}_ext_attr3(). Then what
is stored in the handle structure is the on-disk encoding, and we would
do the translation at the higher layer function rather than the low-
level read/write functions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1594715] Re: wifi does not work roughly half of the times

@alberto: just tried what you suggested. Returns that dnsmasq is not
installed in the first place.

Title:
wifi does not work roughly half of the times

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After booting, roughly half of the times, wifi doesn't work: The nm-
applet menu looks as if no wifi would exist. Instead, it lists the a
non-existing cable network device called "Marvell 88W8897 [AVASTAR]
802.11ac Wireless". (The network manager seems to be trying to connect
  to that device, but fails.)

  After doing
/etc/init.d/network-manager restart
the wifi device is always recognized properly, so I guess it's something
happening in the wrong order during booting. (Alternatively, unloading and
reloading the kernel module mwifiex_pcie also always helps.)

The problem did not exist in ubuntu 15.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574415] Re: [16.04] ssh : Bad protocol spec '1'

2017-01-14 Thread Colin Watson
I certainly won't grep user configuration files from package maintainer
scripts - that sort of thing causes serious problems in some
environments, particularly those with lots of users or home directories
mounted over NFS.

There's something to be said for doing a better job of the error message
in this case (e.g. pointing people to the openssh-client-ssh1 package),
although I'm wary of ending up maintaining yet another long-lived and
necessarily-Debian-specific patch.

Title:
  [16.04] ssh : Bad protocol spec '1'

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrade to 16.04 ssh client will not connect to any host,
  reporting

  /home/tj/.ssh/config line 109: Bad protocol spec '1'.

  The entry is:

  Host ups-01
  Hostname 10.254.0.1
  User hostmaster
  IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_hostmaster
  IdentitiesOnly yes
  Protocol 1

If this were an entry in /etc/ssh/ssh_config and the user had no
privileges to edit that file it could create a denial of service to
the ssh client (if the user doesn't know how to over-ride the config).

It would be helpful if the openssh-client postinst script were to grep
the standard config files (including for users) and add a warning to
the motd and syslog if any invalidated configuration statements are
  found.

This will especially affect connections to embedded devices - in this
case it is an ssh server on a management VLAN in one of several
network-attached Uninterruptable Power Supplies that cannot be
upgraded, and only support Protocol 1.

According to the 16.04 Release Notes protocol 1 requires the openssh-
client-ssh1 package with the ssh1 binary.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1389167] Re: HostbasedAuthentication produces spurious warnings

2017-01-14 Thread Colin Watson
This was fixed upstream in OpenSSH 6.8, which is in Ubuntu 15.10 and
newer:

https://anongit.mindrot.org/openssh.git/commit/?id=1195f4cb07ef4b0405c839293c38600b3e9bdb46

Title:
  HostbasedAuthentication produces spurious warnings

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
  openssh-client 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu2

We have HostbasedAuthentication set up in our environment so that
users can ssh between equivalent hosts without a password.

  ssh_config contains (relevantly)

  HostbasedAuthentication yes
  PreferredAuthentications publickey,hostbased,password,keyboard-interactive
  EnableSSHKeysign yes

  sshd_config contains (relevantly)

  HostbasedAuthentication yes

  This works:

  ocelot:~$ ssh othermc
  othermc:~$

However, ssh-ing as an alternative user produces additional warning
messages before the expected password prompt:

  ocelot:~$ ssh otheruser@othermc
  no matching hostkey found
  ssh_keysign: no reply
  key_sign failed
  otheruser@othermc's password:

If instead of relying on EnableSSHKeysign in ssh_config I make the ssh
  binary setuid:

  chmod u+s /usr/bin/ssh

...the extra warnings go away and I get what I expect:

  ocelot:~$ ssh otheruser@othermc
  otheruser@othermc's password:

This makes me suspect that there may be a problem with ssh-keysign.

This is true of all the purely yes/no flags; I agree that there are some
multi-state options that behave differently.

I've raised this upstream, and linked the bug here. Thanks for your
report. I should warn you in advance that a backport to 14.04/16.04 is
rather unlikely, but if fixed upstream then it'll make its way into
later Ubuntu releases.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656599] [NEW] Package sane-backends not installed and no hook available, ignoring

This is despite folks having the constituent packages of sane-backends

Title:
  [SRU] please remove libqt5webkit dependency

Status in signon-ui package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in signon-ui source package in Xenial:
  In Progress
Status in signon-ui source package in Yakkety:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This is an SRU request, based on the process documented at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

  [Impact]

   * When declaring online accounts for use by Ubuntu, the system uses a
webview to authenticate to online services like Facebook or Google.

   * On X11 desktops, that webview currently uses an old qt5webkit
  component that is now unmaintained

   * Backporting this fix will simplify the maintenance work, by
removing the need for that old component, and will improve the
coherence of the system by using a supported Oxide webview

  [Test Case]

  To verify the change:

   * Go to system settings > Online Accounts
   * Add account of type Google, Facebook or Twitter (which uses webview for
authentication)
   * Verify that a webview opens to log onto the online service
   * Verify that the account is listed in the account list at the end of this
process
   * Verify that the related apps and services can use the online account as
before (ie Shotwell photo uploads, Photos scope, etc.)

  [Regression Potential]

   * On architectures not supported by Oxide, namely ppc64el and s390x,
the change will trigger a runtime error when trying to use that part
  of signon-ui.

   * The problem affects users of Ubuntu desktop systems based on X11.
The change is already in effect on Unity8/Mir devices for a few
  months.

  [Other Info]

   * signon-ui-x11(http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/signon-ui-x11)
  depends on libqt5webkit5

   * See also: https://blogs.gnome.org/mcatanzaro/2016/02/01/on-webkit-
  security-updates/

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585863] Re: WiFi malfunction after suspend & resume stress - sudo wpa_cli scan required to fix it.

2017-01-14 Thread Éric Piel
Same as comment #52 and #53, while it used to be just once in a while,
since a few weeks, it's now _every_ single time that my laptop resumes.

There are many similar bugs but with probably different causes. So to be
clear here is the symptoms I see much more recently since a few weeks
(on 16.04): after resume, only a couple of wifi networks will be listed
at most, and never the one I use.

This workaround does work (to get nm-applet list all the networks again):
sudo service network-manager restart

These things do _not_ work:
 * restarting nm-applet
 * disabling/enabling the wifi from the hardware key
 * trying to unblock the wifi in software (via rfkill), it's not even marked as
disabled anyway.

  1. Install fwts by `sudo apt-get install fwts`.
  2. Run the suspend & resume stress test.
  sudo fwts s3 --s3-multiple=30 --s3-min-delay=5 --s3-max-delay=5

  Expected result:
  The WiFi still functioned.

  Actual result:
The WiFi can not connect to any access point and we have to execute `sudo

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1655828] Re: Mouse flickers and disappears on primary monitor when additional monitor is connected

2017-01-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mauricio Maluff Masi:

>" The label is pretty faded, so I'm not positive on this. But I think
it's: Make: DisplayLink Model: E364109"

AFAIK, DisplayLink doesn't sell adapters as a manufacturer. Other
hardware manufacturers integrate DisplayLink technology in their
products and then brand it differently. Hence, the device you have
wouldn't have DisplayLink as either the manufacturer or the make.

Also, I wasn't able to find any device from any manufacturer with model
E364109. Would this device have any other sticker, markings, or logos?
Would you have a receipt for this device to reference?

Also, have you tried testing earlier versions of the DisplayLink driver
to see if this is a regression of it via
http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu ?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1548486] Re: Sleep hook in a subdirectory ignored but causes double execution of previous hook

2017-01-14 Thread Dirk F
Christian, thanks for looking at this.

I'd definitely encourage someone with a relevant Debian installation to
reportbug this, and indeed any of the bugs that I've reported in pm-
utils but remain ignored upstream.

Title:
Sleep hook in a subdirectory ignored but causes double execution of
  previous hook

Status in pm-utils:
  Unknown
Status in pm-utils package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The set of sleep hooks provided in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d includes
one (95packagekit/95packagekit) that is stored in a subdirectory. This
  has two effects:

  1the hook is not run;

2the previous hook, currently /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/95led, is
run for a second time instead.

Presumably #1 is wrong, and results from an installation fault in
packagekit, separately reported as bug 1548480.

#2 occurs because the function run_hooks() in /usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-
functions computes a list of to-be-executed hooks that includes
directories but neither fully validates each such hook as a regular
file nor handles a set of to-be-executed hooks in a subdirectory.

At lines 243 on, there is a code path with no else clause through
which the $hook from the previous iteration can be accidentally
  reused:

if [ -f "$syshooks/$base" ]; then
hook="$syshooks/$base"
elif [ -f "$phooks/$base" ]; then
hook="$phooks/$base"
fi

An easy fix is to insert the missing else clause before the fi line so
that the script skips the subdirectory or other non-regular file and
carries on with the next correctly specified hook:

if [ -f "$syshooks/$base" ]; then
hook="$syshooks/$base"
elif [ -f "$phooks/$base" ]; then
hook="$phooks/$base"
else
continue
fi

  Observed in Lubuntu 14.04.3,4 with pm-utils 1.4.1-13ubuntu0.1,2.
However the relevant pm-utils code dates back to 2008, pm-utils
  upstream version 1.1.0.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656504] Re: Permission denied when running apport-collect

2017-01-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
nico, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To advise, you shouldn't be running apport-collect to a report on
Launchpad you aren't the original reporter of. Launchpad typically
blocks this type of action, so this may be intended behavior.

Despite this, can you please advise what happens when you run:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1645232] Re: e2fsprogs - could not preserve ACL permissions : The getxattr() returns with (EINVAL)

2017-01-14 Thread Sojan James
Hello,

I have a fix for this and the patch is attached. I couldn't find the
right mailing list for e2fsprogs. Until I find that, this is a good
place to upload the patch.

mke2fs was copying the ACL in the POSIX extended attribute format. The
attached patch converts it to for format expected by the file-system.

Regards,
Sojan

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1397663] Re: sudo does not properly initialize libgcrypt

2017-01-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

These seem to be related to the following change:

bin/gitweb.cgi?p=libgcrypt.git;a=commitdiff_plain;h=7627f9646701e88c827bbadd1231221d5f0c89a6

It looks like that sudo does not properly initialize libgcrypt. From
looking at the above patch, it does not seem to do any harm, since the
lib will then initialize itself. When trying to find issues on a
system, warnings like this will make things a bit more cloudy then
needed. A proper implementation for this would be beneficial to the
  system in general.

These warnings are present in 14.04.

Well, I am ppa building against proposed, as this is staging for archive
uploads, and this still fails with that in place.

Yes, I was just recording this with the bug. Definitely one to tackle
once Qt has migrated the 1st time.

As is the case with LP Bug #1654820, it seems likely that

  kmail

would also fail in the same fashion, but the build depends are not yet
in place to confirm that absolutely.

Again, this seems to be a case of qtbase using the gold linker, and I
would surmise that as with amd64 etc, setting no gold linker for
arm64 and ppc64el would resolve this.

no gold linker is already set in qtbase for amd64, i386, powerpc &
  armhf.

2017-01-14 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Let's tackle this as soon as the first transition is over so that we
don't relaunch the currently passed autopkgtests.

Meanwhile there have been two binutils uploads too, and once
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/binutils/2.27.90.20170114-1ubuntu1
is in release pocket this would be worth retrying.

FTBFS with errors similar to the one shown at the bottom of this

As is the case with LP Bug #1654820, it seems likely that

  kmail
  kdepim-addons

would also fail in the same fashion, but the build depends are not yet
in place to confirm that absolutely.

Again, this seems to be a case of qtbase using the gold linker, and I
would surmise that as with amd64 etc, setting no gold linker for
arm64 and ppc64el would resolve this.

no gold linker is already set in qtbase for amd64, i386, powerpc &
  armhf.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656557] [NEW] sshd_config issue crashes sshd daemon

2017-01-14 Thread nmarques
Public bug reported:

Dear People,

The field 'PasswordAuthentication' unlike all the others requires no
capitalization in order for the ssh daemon to start properly!

While this works:

PasswordAuthentication yes

The following doesn't work for this field (though works for other fields):

PasswordAuthentication Yes

This is most likely an issue to bring up to upstream project. Could we
have a fix so that configuration can be done in a consistent way and the
daemon doesn't break because of capitalization of a given parameter (it
works on the other fields using [Yy] or [Nn]).

This is a reality in 14.04 and 16.04.

Thanks for your time.

** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Directly after boot the network connections are not working. I am
connected and have an IP address, but I cannot establish a connection

I have the impression it is related to thee DNS lookup, which waits

Cycling the connection (disconnect->reconnect) seems to fix the
  problem for some time.

I am reporting this against network-manager, but I am not sure if it is
directly in network manager or if it is systemd related.

wifi does not work roughly half of the times

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656551] [NEW] webbrowser only partially loads https sites with self-signed certificate

2017-01-14 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

The browser on my Ubuntu Phone (Meizu MX-4, OTA 15) does not open self-signed
https-secured sites correctly. The browser presents the option to go back to a
safe site or continue anyway. If I choose continue anyway, it starts to load
the site, but never completes. After some time it stops loading and displays a
rather incomplete version of the site. It is clearly composed of only some of
the pages' elements and incomplete. The amount of the page that is displayed
varies from time to time.
It appears that transmission times out while loading the page.
One common usecase of self-signed certificates is webinterfaces of DSL or cable
routers, such as the popular fritz box.
Test case:
1) Try loading the web interface of my router: https://rkupper.no-ip.org/
You should see the login page of a fritz box router.
2) Try loading the web interface of my nextcloud
instance:https://rkupper.no-ip.org:444/
You should see the login page of nextcloud
Observe that the appearance of the pages varies every time, depending on how
much of the site was loaded. Observe that pressing the login button does
nothing – probably because the scripts have not been loaded.
I have tried other self-signed sites, and am confident that it is not a problem
of my server.

** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2017-01-14 Thread Juan Hernández
For me replacing xserver-xorg-input-synaptics with xserver-xorg-input-
libinput made the clickpad (a touchpad without fisical buttons) very
usable and without cursor jumps.

By default libinput enables multitouch gestures for scrolling, 2-finger
clicks (right button) and 3-finger clicks (middle button) but I think
you can adapt the configuration file to enable right button clicks on
the clickpad instead of the 2-finger option.

All I had to do was:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-libinput
sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

..and reboot

This was fixed in sudo 1.8.17

I'd very much like to see backported to Ubuntu 16.04. If possible,
updating sudo completely to 1.8.17 would be nice, since there have
been quite a few improvements with regards to sss and freeipa and it
would be a shame if we could not benefit from them given that 16.04 is
  LTS.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1647485] Re: NVMe symlinks broken by devices with spaces in model or serial strings

Bug description:
  [Impact]

After including the patch from bug 1642903, NVMe devices that include spaces
in their model or serial strings result in incorrect symlinks, e.g. if the
model string is "XYZ Corp NVMe drive" then instead of creating:
  /dev/disk/by-id/nvme-XYZ Corp NVMe drive_SERIAL -> ../../nvme0n1
  it creates:
  /dev/disk/by-id/nvme-XYZ -> ../../nvme0n1
  /dev/Corp -> nvme0n1
  /dev/NVMe -> nvme0n1
  /dev/drive_SERIAL -> nvme0n1

This is because of the way udev handles the SYMLINK value strings; by
default, it does not do any whitespace replacement. To enable
whitespace replacement of a symlink value, the rule must also include
OPTIONS+="string_escape=replace". This is done for 'md' and 'dm'
devices in their rules. However, there are no rules that actually
want to specify multiple symlinks, and defaulting to not replacing
whitespace makes no sense; instead, the default should be to replace
all whitespace in each symlink value, unless the rule explicitly
  specifies OPTIONS+="string_escape=none".

  [Test Case]

This assumes using udev with the patch from bug 1642903.

Without this patch, when using a NVMe drive that contains spaces in
its model and/or serial strings, check the /dev/disk/by-id/ directory.
It should contain a partially-correct symlink to the NVMe drive, with
the name up to the first space. All following space-separated parts
of the mode/serial string should have symlinks in the /dev/ directory.
  This is the incorrect behavior.

With this patch, check the /dev/disk/by-id/ directory. It should
contain a fully-correct symlink to the NVMe drive, and no part of the
drive's model/serial number string should be a link in the /dev
  directory.

An example of the correct/incorrect naming is in the Impact section.

There should be no other changes to any of the symlinks under /dev
before and after this patch. Typical locations for symlinks are
  /dev/, /dev/disk/by-name/, /dev/disk/by-id/, /dev/disk/by-uuid/,
  /dev/disk/by-label/

  [Regression Potential]

Errors in udev rules can lead to an unbootable or otherwise completely
broken system if they unintentionally break or clobber existing
  /dev/disks/ symlinks.

  [Other Info]

This is also tracked with upstream systemd (udev) bug 4833:
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/4833

Also note, this can be worked around in individual rules ONLY (i.e.
not fixed for all rules) by appending OPTIONS+="string_escape=replace"
to each of the NVMe rules with SYMLINK+="..." assignment, e.g.:

  KERNEL=="nvme*[0-9]n*[0-9]", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", ATTRS{model}=="?*",
  ENV{ID_SERIAL_SHORT}=="?*",
  ENV{ID_SERIAL}="$attr{model}_$env{ID_SERIAL_SHORT}", SYMLINK+="disk
  /by-id/nvme-$env{ID_SERIAL}", OPTIONS+="string_escape=replace"

  Related bugs:
   * bug 1642903: introduce disk/by-id (model_serial) symlinks for NVMe drives
   * bug 1651602: NVMe driver regression for non-smp/1-cpu systems
   * bug 1649635: export nvme drive model/serial strings via sysfs (trusty)

Bug description:
Sudo currently fails to validate netgroups against host netgroups
returned from the sss plugin, see
  https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/6139 for the glory details.

This was fixed in sudo 1.8.17
  (https://www.sudo.ws/repos/sudo/rev/2eab4070dcf7 to be exact), which
I'd very much like to see backported to Ubuntu 16.04. If possible,
updating sudo completely to 1.8.17 would be nice, since there have
been quite a few improvements with regards to sss and freeipa and it
would be a shame if we could not benefit from them given that 16.04 is
  LTS.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1655429] Re: Noise and poor audio quality over SPDIF

2017-01-14 Thread Olli Lupton
** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
Noise and poor audio quality over SPDIF

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Hi,

I recently updated a system to Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS from 14.04.5 LTS.

After the upgrade, the sound quality I get over the SPDIF output is
terrible -- I hear crackling/noise when no sound is being played, and
when I play a sound it is heavily distorted. The situation was much
better (if not quite perfect) in 14.04.5.

The system runs on an ASROCK N3150DC-ITX board with a coaxial SPDIF
cable connected to the headers on the board.

  $ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k4.4.0-59-generic.

  $ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec
  Codec: Realtek ALC892
  Codec: Intel Braswell HDMI

  in alsamixer it shows:

  Card: HDA Intel PCH
  Chip: Realtek ALC892

I can't confirm this, but I believe that in 14.04.5 this showed the
  'Chip' as 'Intel Braswell HDMI'

The alsamixer control for my SPDIF output is called 'SPDIF 16'
muting/unmuting this works, and no other combination of controls I
have tried changing has any effect. 'SPDIF 1' and 'SPDIF 2' are also
  present in alsamixer

I tried the position_fix suggestion here
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting, but it didn't make
  any difference.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656310] Re: google + is not accessible anymore via the browser app

2017-01-14 Thread Olivier Tilloy
@taiebot65: thanks for testing! Indeed silo 2366 has an incomplete fix,
I’m aware of it and will update it on Monday. Regarding twitter, I’m
assuming you’re on the stable channel (i.e. OTA-14) ? I’m not seeing the
issue on rc-proposed.
