[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666900] Re: avahi-autoipd fails because network interface name is too long
Paul: Could you file this in the upstream bug tracker here? https://github.com/lathiat/avahi/issues/new We should probably just drop reliance on the label and store state somehow -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to avahi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1666900 Title: avahi-autoipd fails because network interface name is too long Status in avahi package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Trying to use avahi-autoipd on a USB network interface, which gets created when I connect a USB gadget (g_ether) device (my raspberry pi zero). Avahi-autoipd fails to assign an IPv4LL address, and instead reports: # avahi-autoipd enp0s29u1u2 Found user 'avahi-autoipd' (UID 110) and group 'avahi-autoipd' (GID 120). Successfully called chroot(). Successfully dropped root privileges. Starting with address 169.254.7.125 Callout BIND, address 169.254.7.125 on interface enp0s29u1u2 client: RTNETLINK answers: Numerical result out of range Script execution failed with return value 2 Successfully claimed IP address 169.254.7.125 Although avahi-autoipd claims that the IP address gets configured, ifconfig shows that it didn't succeed. The root cause is that the label for the interface exceeds the maximum length of 15 characters. This happens in line 44 of /etc/avahi/avahi- autoipd.action: ip addr add "$3"/16 brd 169.254.255.255 label "$2:avahi" scope link dev "$2" With $2 the interface name, and $3 the IPv4LL address that it wants to claim. Interface names and label names can only be 15 characters in length, this is a kernel limitation. IF_NAMESIZE = 16, leaving 15 chars for the name, see /usr/include/net/if.h and IFNAMSIZ in the kernel includes. The rather long interface name, appended with ":avahi", exceeds this length. This results in the 'Numerical result out of range' error message. Workaround: I've edited the /etc/avahi/avahi-autopid.action script to only append ":a" for the label (lines 44 and 50) ,and in this case it works as designed. avahi-autoipd should perhaps check that the label does not exceed this limit of 15 characters. Note that the label must start with the full interface name, see ip- address(8). A more compact interface name would be helpful, as these long interface names tend to break other things as well. The kernel assigns 'usb0', but this gets changed right away. This occurs on both 16.04 and 16.10, haven't tried any other versions yet. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1670036] [NEW] 4.0.6-2ubuntu01 has problems reading and writing JPEG compressed images
Public bug reported: The patches applied to libtiff 4.0.6 in 4.0.6-2ubuntu01 seem to break JPEG tiff read and write. To reproduce: $ tiffcp -c jpeg k2a.tif x.tif (where k2a.tif is a simple uncompressed RGB strip tiff) appears to work. However, x.tif, the output, will now not read without warnings: $ tiffcp x.tif y.tif TIFFFetchNormalTag: Warning, ASCII value for tag "JPEGTables" does not end in null byte. Forcing it to be null. JPEGLib: Warning, Premature end of JPEG file. This was working fine until a couple of days ago, so I guess it's one of the most recent patches. Some packages using libtiff seem to be broken too. For example, openslide, which uses libtiff to load jp2k-compressed slide images, is no longer working: $ openslide-write-png CMU-1-Small-Region.svs 0 0 0 100 100 x.png TIFFFetchNormalTag: Warning, ASCII value for tag "JPEGTables" does not end in null byte. Forcing it to be null. TIFFFetchNormalTag: Warning, ASCII value for tag "JPEGTables" does not end in null byte. Forcing it ... repeats 8 more times openslide-write-png: Premature end of JPEG file and x.png is not a valid PNG image. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1670031] [NEW] Wireless driver (QCA-9377) not working properly
Public bug reported: Hello guys, I have Lenovo Ideapad 500S-13ISK. It is bundled with Qualcomm Atheros QCA-9377 (rev 30) 802.11ac wireless card. Currently I have running Ubuntu 16.10 with all security updates. Wireless is dropping constantly. I tried different GNU/Linux distributions but the result is either same or worse. I assume is something related to NetworkManager and eventually Systemd. The thing is that I loose signal at some point but the network manager indicates that I have connection. After toggling Airplane mode it manages to continue to work properly but I am loosing the list with wireless connections which are available to be. For some reason it starts to show that I am connected through cable, instead of wireless. The only two ways to resolve constant drops in the signal I found is to toggle Airplane mode or restart NetworkManager. I've tested a simple QML file with a single empty UbuntuShape in it: import QtQuick 2.4 import Ubuntu.Components 1.3 Rectangle { width: 400 height: 300 color: "blue" UbuntuShape {} } Running it with INTEL_DEBUG=perf env var set, I get this output: i915_program_error: Exceeded max ALU instructions (76 out of 64) ENTER FALLBACK 1: Program Mapping a busy BO, causing a stall on the GPU. which implies that MESA was unable to compile one of the UbuntuShape shaders as it created more ALU instructions than the GPU could deal with. MESA falls back to CPU rendering as a result. The GPU stall message I guess is related to that.
