  Software & Updates has duplicate entries when installed in Ubuntu

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Ubuntu Software lists two duplicate entries for Software & Updates
  when installed.

  I believe this is because software-properties ships two desktop files:
  software-properties-gnome.desktop and software-properties-gtk.desktop

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610091] Re: libertine libreoffice zotero crash

2017-03-11 Thread Andis
I guess it is not only Unity problem. We have 8 Ubuntu Mate 16.04 64 bit
computers with Libreoffice 5.2.x and default JRE and in all PCs Zotero
crash both Firefox and Libreoffice (Firefox is not crashed but it can't
be stopped without killing it). There are no problems with
Openoffice.org. There is bug open in Libreofffice
(https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105705), however
there are no progress yet. Zotero is considerable part of our work and
it is much more functional than alternatives so it is serious problem
for us. At the moment we trying to use Mendeley, but it is not as easy
to use and functional as Zotero.

Title:
  libertine libreoffice zotero crash

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have bq M10 tablet, where libreoffice comes as preinstalled in libertine.
While OTA-12 brings the keyboard which is great, still the usabillity of
libreoffice (writer) is lacking as zotero can't be used successfully:
  what I tried:
  [x] Zotero installs and works in firefox
  [x] zotero plugin install sucessfully in libreoffice as extension, and
buttons appear

  When as required by zotero firefox is launched, then in libreoffice
  clicking any button of zotero crashes the libreoffice.

  I am not familiar with mir/unity8. I see that it does have problems
  with popup windows. In normal use (on desktop) citing opens instance
  of firefox popup window for selecting the citation. Maybe that is the
  cause of crashing the libreoffice, as in tablet mode the firefox is
  inactive? but it also crashes in desktop mode.

  Is this caused by some missing functionality? (popup windows,
  isolation of applications, something else?)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1672099] [NEW] DNS loop, >5, 000 queries per second for minutes at a time

2017-03-11 Thread Paul
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading a desktop to 17.04, several times a day a DNS storm
occurs. The same A or record is requested over and over again. The
storm lasts 10 to 15 minutes and can clog name resolution entirely,
making the computer unusable for that time.

Both Firefox and Transmission originated hostnames have appeared in the
storms, so it does not seem like an individual application is causing
the problem.

There are so many requests that running tcpdump on a random port (port
29381 is used below) soon catches part of the storm. Example output
below. Note that throughout the duration of these captures, identical
DNS requests were being sent from pretty much every other port as well.

= Transmission looking up mgtracker.org, got stuck on this single hostname for =
= about 15 minutes (this is just the tail end of yesterday morning's storm).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1642078] Re: Black screen at startup on Carrizo

2017-03-11 Thread victor gaspar
Sorry Evren, my only issue is with this 'blank screen' error. HD speed
tested with HDPARM and it looks fine. Also did not notice any problem
with keyboard, or touchpad. WiFi installation was smooth. Current
version of the kernel is 4.4.0-66-generic. Updating did not get things
worse. Nor better in the case of the black screen bug.

I read your posts on bug #1616830, and let's hope AMD and Canonical work
towards a solution together.

Regards,
V.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1573115] Re: No Speakers Sound in Ubuntu 16.04

2017-03-11 Thread Pops
This bug is a joke. This has problem has existed for YEARS. Just search
on the internet for Ubuntu no sound on speakers and you will see this
EXACT SAME issue back in 2012 or 2011. Five or 6 years and you still
can't / don't want to fix it? Ridiculous. this is a problem on Dells,
Acers, Toshibas, HPs. All of them have had this problem. Every time
there's a new release I hope it gets fixed. Has it ever been fixed? If
so, can't you just look to what you did. Or here's an idea, prior to
release, why don't you see if it is broken?

I don't want to use headphones. I don't want to buy an external speaker.
I want my laptop to work as it is. I'm so fed up with
this...

  I recently installed Ubuntu 16.04 and I'm having a problem with my audio

  *The external output (headphones) is working properly too.
  *But the internal speakers doesn't work.

  I tried on the live version of 16.04 and I had the same issue.

  Attached you can see the alsamixer configuration which shows the

  I have no idea how to solve it. I used the same laptop with 14.04LTS
  without this problem.

hmm.. same if you just move a shortcut in a diff position in the
launcher, so click and drag a shortcut in the launcher and then press
ALT TAB, now you are just selecting diff shortcuts in the launcher, the
focus? is like there? not exactly what i was expecting, but maybe it's
just me :D

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1672058] [NEW] vis/unvis utilities missing from libbsd-dev

2017-03-11 Thread jklowden
Public bug reported:

$ man vis | sed -ne '/SEE/,/^$/p'
SEE ALSO
 unvis(1), vis(1), snprintf(3), strlcpy(3), unvis(3)

The libbsd-dev package includes the man pages for the library functions,
and those pages refer to command-line utilities that are not included in
the package. AFAICT, these utilities are not available in any Ubuntu
package.

It would be preferable to include the utilities, because it makes
working with the library easier.

If the utilities are not to be included for some reason, the man pages
should exclude them from SEE ALSO, which is a blind alley. It would be
a kindness to the user to mention them (perhaps in a NOTES section) with
a pointer to a known source such as the NetBSD archive.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1608646] Re: ip4 static routes added in NetworkManager UI fail and prevent connection

Title:
  ip4 static routes added in NetworkManager UI fail and prevent
  connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  lsb_release -rd:
  Description:  Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release:  16.04

  Network Settings package version in Software Center:
  15.04.0+16.04.20160705-0ubuntu1

  Prior to upgrading to 16.04 LTS I was running 14.04 LTS. Using the
  "Edit Connections..." menu option I had created a custom Ethernet
  connection that had some custom routes added. These routes are
  required for me to connect to certain resources on a local network
  while using Wifi for basic internet. (Physical network locked down, no
  Internet access available)

  I've attached a screenshot showing the routes. These routes were
  working great in 14.04 (And prior releases of Ubuntu).

  However, upon upgrading to 16.04, I noticed this connection would no
  longer "connect". It would just silently fail. I noticed that if I
  deleted my custom routes, it would work, but I need those in order to
  connect to my required network services.

  When I try to connect with the routes in place, the connection
  silently fails in the NetworkManager UI (I get no error message in the
  UI) but I took a look at syslog and found these:

  Aug  1 08:15:19 jeremy-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-4th NetworkManager[2868]:
[1470057319.7268] platform-linux: do-add-ip4-route[2: 10.104.0.0/16 0]: failure

  Aug  1 08:15:19 jeremy-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-4th NetworkManager[2868]:
[1470057319.7273] platform-linux: do-add-ip4-route[2: 10.140.76.0/24 0]:
failure 101 (Network is unreachable)
  Aug  1 08:15:19 jeremy-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-4th NetworkManager[2868]:

'config-failed') [70 120 4]
  Aug  1 08:15:19 jeremy-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-4th NetworkManager[2868]:
[1470057319.7289] device (enp0s31f6): Activation: failed for connection

  Aug  1 08:15:19 jeremy-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-4th NetworkManager[2868]:
[1470057319.7309] device (enp0s31f6): state change: failed -> disconnected
(reason 'none') [120 30 0]

  Now, if I remove the custom routes from the UI, then I can connect. I them
manually add the routes using the "ip" command:

  sudo /sbin/ip route add 10.104.0.0/16 dev enp0s31f6
  sudo /sbin/ip route add 10.105.0.0/16 dev enp0s31f6
  sudo /sbin/ip route add 10.51.35.0/24 dev enp0s31f6
  sudo /sbin/ip route add 10.140.76.0/24 dev enp0s31f6

  This is able to add the routes successfully. So there has to be some
  problem in the new implementation of NetworkManager in 16.04, because
  these routes worked in 14.04 and they still work in 16.04 if I just
  manually add them from the command line.

  For now I can work around this issue by manually adding these routes
  from the command line every time I connect.

Good, to know, thank you. Just to make it clear: I still think that the
second alternative to hide the suggestion that a log file is created
from the user, because it's unintuitive and imo possible, no matter
which part of the program (core or dependency) generates it, but I
assume that your comment and status change already had that in mind, so
I won't bother more than adding this comment.

Status in systemd:

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I use a VPN configured with network-manager-openconnect-gnome in which
  a split-horizon DNS setup assigns different addresses to some names
  inside the remote network than the addresses seen for those names from
  outside the remote network. However, systemd-resolved often decides
  to ignore the VPN’s DNS servers and use the local network’s DNS
  servers to resolve names (whether in the remote domain or not),
  breaking the split-horizon DNS.

  This related bug, reported by Lennart Poettering himself, was closed with the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585863] Re: WiFi malfunction after suspend & resume stress - sudo wpa_cli scan required to fix it.

2017-03-11 Thread cascagrossa
Also tested network-manager 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from xenial-proposed for 15
days, and it didn't happen again.
Looks like the error is fixed in that version of network-manager.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings

2017-03-11 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
While I'd like to understand what systemd changed, I still think adding
the PIDFile is correct as a fix for keepalived. Understanding systemd
might just open up to fix more than just this service.

Never the less for type forking (that is the case here) PIDFile is recommended
(https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.service.html).
Various cases are listed when the MainPID guessing might fail otherwise.
Also it is known proven to fix the issue, as well as being the upstream systemd
file.

I'll next week schedule a fix and as well file one with Debian to not
keep that Delta forever.

Title:
  keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings

Status in systemd source package in Xenial:

Bug description:
  Because "PIDFile=" directive is missing in the systemd unit file,
  keepalived sometimes fails to kill all old processes. The old
  processes remain with old settings and cause unexpected behaviors. The
  detail of this bug is described in this ticket in upstream:
  https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/issues/443.

  The official systemd unit file is available since version 1.2.24 by
  this commit:

https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/commit/635ab69afb44cd8573663e62f292c6bb84b44f15

  This includes "PIDFile" directive correctly:

  PIDFile=/var/run/keepalived.pid

  We should go the same way.

  I am using Ubuntu 16.04.1, kernel 4.4.0-45-generic.

  Package: keepalived
  Version: 1.2.19-1

  ===

  How to reproduce:

  I used the two instances of Ubuntu 16.04.2 on DigitalOcean:

  Configurations
  --

  MASTER server's /etc/keepalived/keepalived.conf:

    vrrp_script chk_nothing {
   script "/bin/true"
   interval 2
    }

    vrrp_instance G1 {
  interface eth1
  state BACKUP
  priority 100

  virtual_router_id 123
  unicast_src_ip
  unicast_peer {

  }
  track_script {
    chk_nothing
  }
    }

  BACKUP server's /etc/keepalived/keepalived.conf:

    vrrp_script chk_nothing {
   script "/bin/true"
   interval 2
    }

    vrrp_instance G1 {
  interface eth1
  state MASTER
  priority 200

  virtual_router_id 123
  unicast_src_ip
  unicast_peer {

  }
  track_script {
    chk_nothing
  }
    }

  Loop based probing for the Error to exist:
  --
  After the setup above start keepalived on both servers:
  $ sudo systemctl start keepalived.service
  Then run the following loop
  $ for j in $(seq 1 20); do sleep 11s; time for i in $(seq 1 5); do sudo
systemctl restart keepalived; sudo systemctl status keepalived | egrep
'Main.*exited'; done; done

  Expected: no error, only time reports
  Error case: Showing Main PID exited, details below

  Step by Step Procedures
  ---

  1) Start keepalived on both servers

    $ sudo systemctl start keepalived.service

  2) Restart keepalived on either one

    $ sudo systemctl restart keepalived.service

  3) Check status and PID

    $ systemctl status -n0 keepalived.service

  Result
  --

  0) Before restart

  Main PID is 3402 and the subprocesses' PIDs are 3403-3406. So far so
  good.

    root@ubuntu-2gb-sgp1-01:~# systemctl status -n0 keepalived
    ● keepalived.service - Keepalive Daemon (LVS and VRRP)
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/keepalived.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
   Active: active (running) since Sat 2017-03-04 01:37:12 UTC; 14min ago
  Process: 3402 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/keepalived $DAEMON_ARGS (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)
     Main PID: 3403 (keepalived)
    Tasks: 3
   Memory: 1.7M
  CPU: 1.900s
   CGroup: /system.slice/keepalived.service
   ├─3403 /usr/sbin/keepalived
   ├─3405 /usr/sbin/keepalived
   └─3406 /usr/sbin/keepalived

  1) First restart

  Now Main PID is 3403, which was one of the previous subprocesses and
  is actually exited. Something is wrong. Yet, the previous processes
  are all exited; we are not likely to see no weird behaviors here.

    root@ubuntu-2gb-sgp1-01:~# systemctl restart keepalived
    root@ubuntu-2gb-sgp1-01:~# systemctl status -n0 keepalived
    ● keepalived.service - Keepalive Daemon (LVS and VRRP)
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/keepalived.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1671990] Re: failing lxc-create doesn't create log file mentioned in error message

2017-03-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
That error message comes from debootstrap, not from lxc-create.

lxc-create in your case calls the lxc-debian script which in turn calls
debootstrap. On failure, lxc-debian cleans up the build environment
which is why the log file disappears.

Anyway, the actual error is perfectly visible on screen, the error is
that /proc can't be mounted which is usually a sign of you attempting to
run lxc-create inside a container without having properly enabled
nesting for that container.
