Title:
Dedicated mono test sound is unavailable

Status in sound-theme-freedesktop package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
When testing stereo speakers you get the "Front left" and "Front
right" samples, but no such sample exists for mono speakers e.g.
  HSP/HFP bluetooth devices.

Instead you get played the "audio-test-signal" which is white noise.
To begin with I thought this was a problem with Bluetooth or the
speaker itself, but it's just the sample being used.

There is a bug upstream to provide this sample, but in the meantime I
think playing the "audio-channel-front-center.oga" is a suitable
  standin.

I have sound-theme-freedesktop (0.8-1ubuntu1) installed and still get
white noise. Is something still missing?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704250] Re: ERROR

2017-07-13 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks, Seth. I ended up using sudo apt-get install --reinstall
libssl1.0.0:i386 (which I found in the term.log listed as a bad
package).now everything seems to be working fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1692981] Re: package libssl-dev:amd64 1.0.2g-1ubuntu11.2 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting config

2017-07-13 Thread Seth Arnold
Jeremy, if you get the prompt back immediately after the dpkg -l | awk
'/^iH/ { print $2 }' command, that means dpkg thinks nothing is half-
installed. This is good news; if you still have problems with:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -u dist-upgrade

then please paste the results you're getting.

Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704244] Bug is not a security issue

2017-07-13 Thread Seth Arnold
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1692981 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1692981

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704238] [NEW] ftbfs on non-amd64

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1673817] Re: update-secure-boot-policy behaving badly with unattended-upgrades

2017-07-13 Thread Steve Langasek
An upload of shim-signed to trusty-proposed has been rejected from the

grub2-common; drop ref to LP: #1624096 from changelog".

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Any user with unattended upgrades enabled and DKMS packages in a Secure Boot
environment might be prompted to change Secure Boot policy, which will fail and
crash in unattended-upgrades.

  [Test case]
  = unattended upgrade =
  1) Create /var/lib/dkms/TEST-DKMS
  2) Install new package
  3) Trigger unattended-upgrades: unattended-upgrades -d

Upgrade should run smoothly for all the processing but fail to
complete; shim-signed should end the unattended upgrade with a error
as unattended change of the Secure Boot policy can not be done.
Upgrade should not hang in high CPU usage.

  = standard upgrade =
  1) Create /var/lib/dkms/TEST-DKMS
  2) install new package.
  3) Verify that the upgrade completes normally.

  [Regression Potential]
Any failure to prompt for or change Secure Boot policy in mokutil while in an
*attended* upgrade scenario would constitute a regression of this SRU.

Any other issues related to booting in Secure Boot mode should instead
be directed to bug 1637290 (shim update).

  ---

Currently, unattended-upgrades will automatically install all updates
for those running development releases of Ubuntu (LP: #1649709)

Today, my computer was acting very sluggish. Looking at my process
list, I saw/ usr/sbin/update-secureboot-policy was using a log of CPU.

  I killed the process. I have a /var/crash/shim-signed.0.crash but
since it's 750 MB, I didn't bother submitting it or looking at it
more. Maybe it crashed because I killed the process. Also, I see that
  unattended-upgrades-dpkg.log is 722 MB.

Today's update included both VirtualBox and the linux kernel.

I am attaching an excerpt of /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-
  upgrades-dpkg.log

This message was repeated a very large number of times (but I only
included it once in the attachment:

  "Invalid password

The Secure Boot key you've entered is not valid. The password used must be
  between 8 and 16 characters."

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704210] [NEW] NetworkManager does not disable accept_ra when a managed device is set to ipv6 method=ignore

2017-07-13 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Public bug reported:

As per the title; it looks (at first glance anyway, running
TestNetworkManager.test_eth_dhcp6_off integration test from nplan) like
NM does not set accept_ra to false, or provide a method for specifying
whether you want to accept IPv6 RAs on that device. When IPv6 is
disabled, we might also not want the kernel to heed RAs and create SLAAC
addresses.

NM already is able to disable accept_ra, since it does so when a device
transitions to UNAVAILABLE or DISCONNECTED in some cases (see
src/devices/nm-device.c).

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1703520] Re: DNS resolving doesn't work in complain mode with dnsmasq and apparmor

2017-07-13 Thread Christian Boltz
For the records:

revno: 3437
fixes bug: https://launchpad.net/bugs/1569316
committer: Tyler Hicks
branch nick: apparmor
timestamp: Tue 2016-04-12 16:36:43 -0500
message:
profiles: Add attach_disconnected flag to dnsmasq profile

  https://launchpad.net/bugs/1569316

When Ubuntu made the jump from network-manager 1.0.4 to 1.1.93, the
dnsmasq process spawned from network-manager started hitting a
  disconnected path denial:

;-)

Note: I don't know if Ubuntu ships this profile from upstream bzr or has
its own one. Or maybe 16.04 is just a bit too old for this change.

After logging out, GNOME Online Accounts doesn't work the next time you log
in.

This bug was a Release Blocker for Fedora 26. (Fedora 26 will be
  released in July).

gnome-session is the only package updated in this update (not gnome-
  online-accounts).

  Test Case
  =
From Ubuntu GNOME, click Settings>Online Accounts and add your Google
account. Install Evolution if it's not installed. Verified that your Google
account has synced.

Log out. Log in. It may help to reproduce the bug log in to a
different session (GNOME on Wayland instead of GNOME, or the other way
  around).

Open Evolution. Verify that no errors are reported and that your
  Google account is still syncing.

After installing the gnome-session update, I recommend rebooting once
to clear any old lingering GNOME Online Accounts processes from
  previous sessions.

  Regression Potential

This fix is the same as was accepted into Fedora 26. It is a workaround by
killing all the user's D-Bus sessions when the user logs out. This fix has been
backported from gnome-session 3.25.3. It has not been applied to the 3.24 git
branch upstream.

Since 16.10 has almost reached its end of life (July), I am not
proposing this fix there. I believe 16.10 is the first release
affected since Ubuntu moved many more services to systemd user
  sessions in that release.

The patch tries to only kill the D-Bus sessions if the session being
logged out is the final remaining session for the user.

The workaround makes sense to me. It seems similar to the
KillUserProcesses option that was pushed into systemd to fix this kind
of problem but it's more limited than the systemd method so hopefully
  it won't be as controversial.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1703631] Re: Rebuilt with new libgdal20 needed

2017-07-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This is a normal part of the development cycle especially before Debian
Import Freeze.

These are tracked through these pages:
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/artful/update_excuses.html
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/artful/update_output.txt

and sometimes through
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/transitions/

Debian uses
https://release.debian.org/transitions/

I am closing this bug because we don't generally need transition bugs in
Ubuntu for syncs from Debian unstable.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1702741] Re: QtCreator crashes when opening a filechooser under wayland

2017-07-13 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Andrew, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qtbase-opensource-src into zesty-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/qtbase-opensource-src/5.7.1+dfsg-2ubuntu4~1.17.04.1 in a few hours, and
then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-zesty to verification-done-zesty. If it does not fix
the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag
to verification-failed-zesty. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

With what looks like a simple code change that Ubuntu could carry as a patch?
https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/179124/

Fedora appear to have fixed the bug in Fedora 25 -
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1403500

Bug description:
  [Impact]

The switch to cmake caused two compilation flags to be accidentally dropped:
  -D_LARGE_FILES -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64

This causes all file-handling operations in zenlib to fail to work
with large files on 32-bit machines. This affects the following
  reverse-dependencies:

   - libmediainfo
   - mediainfo
   - mediaconch

  This has been fixed in

https://github.com/MediaArea/ZenLib/commit/dc105b3ed035413577d21c979d1998d889350855.

  [Test Case]

Run `mediainfo $filename` where $filename is a file that is larger
than 4.2GB. Output will be missing if this bug is present.

  [Regression Potential]

Quite low, since the only thing that's changed here are some -D
compilation flags that aren't even directly referenced in the
  codebase.

Bug description:
  Feature
  ===
A separate network-manager-config-connectivity package that contains the
3-line config snippet to enable NetworkManager's connectivity check. This is
the same approach taken by Fedora since 2014 (their package is named
config-connectivity-fedora).

jbicha would like to have ubuntu-gnome-desktop recommend this package for
zesty. With this config, GNOME Shell will popup a browser page when a captive
portal is detected. The browser page is powered by webkit2gtk.
  https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.14/#captive-portals

By making it a separate package, it is very easy for Ubuntu flavors to
opt in to installing it by default if they choose. And it's very easy
for users to opt in or out without needing to mess around with system
  configuration files.

This new feature (and how to opt out) will be mentioned in Ubuntu
  GNOME's Release Notes.

Enabling the connectivity check by default for all of Ubuntu was discussed
almost 5 years ago:
  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2012-July/035490.html

  Link to new discussion:

When in a hotel there is a often a T page that is delivered when
connecting to the network. Some combination of network manager and update
manager (or something else entirely) doesn't seem to be able to handle this,
and update are left in a non-working state after not being able to read package
headers file.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1689299] Re: ssh-agent systemd user service failed to start, trying to set environment in Upstart way.

Title:
ssh-agent systemd user service failed to start, trying to set
  environment in Upstart way.

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
"systemctl --user status ssh-agent.service" give me the following info:
agent-launch[11327]: initctl: Name "com.ubuntu.Upstart" does not exist

As I'm running Systemd session instead of Upstart one, it shouldn't
try to run initctl. So, I take a look at /usr/lib/openssh/agent-
launcher. And this is what's in the file:

if type initctl >/dev/null 2>&1; then
  initctl set-env --global SSH_AUTH_SOCK=$S
  fi

So, the script checks if Upstart is installed, but doesn't actually
check if the current session is Upstart session or not. It has to
check if $UPSTART_SESSION is defined or not.

I have 3 WiFi signals here, and use them all without issue most of the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704171] [NEW] WiFi connections unstable

2017-07-13 Thread Lisa Nelson
Public bug reported:

I have 3 WiFi signals here, and use them all without issue most of the
time. Since upgrading to 17.04 I have issues where my wifi will not
connect to one of the other 2 signals, then also won't re-connect to the
signal that was just in use. When this happens, I can do a 'restart'
and it will connect just fine to any of the 3 signals.

While it was failing a bit ago, I captured the syslog of whats going on
and will include it below.

Bug description:
This is actually a PulseAudio bug, but the workaround is to disable
  Bluetooth audio in GDM.

Further discussion (and the source of my understanding about this
  issue) upstream are here:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=805414

  To summarise:

GDM opens the A2DP profile for a11y purposes to allow screenreaders to
output over BT audio devices. However Pulse doesn't release those
devices when no audio is being played and the upshot is that once in
the users session A2DP is not available for any Bluetooth audio
devices, this means that you can only use the low quality profile
  HSP/HFP.

There is a proposed workaround, but this means that a11y tools which
need to output audio won't be able to use Bluetooth devices within
  GDM.

I think that for 17.10 shipping this work-around is acceptable, and we
should revisit in the 18.04 cycle to try and get a proper fix in PA.
  The suggested PA bug is:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57167

but that hasn't seen movement since 2012.

  = The work around =

  From the Debian wiki: https://wiki.debian.org/BluetoothUser/a2dp

Disable the Bluetooth sink in the GDM PA daemon.

  Add this to /var/lib/gdm3/.config/pulse/default.pa

  #!/usr/bin/pulseaudio -nF
  #

  # load system wide configuration
  .include /etc/pulse/default.pa

  ### unload driver modules for Bluetooth hardware
  .ifexists module-bluetooth-policy.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-policy
  .endif

  .ifexists module-bluetooth-discover.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-discover
  .endif

I have tested this, and I can confirm that it allows access to A2DP
  again in the user session.

This bug exists in 2.1.26 , and in 2.1.25 which is in 12.04

Problem is that after user is authentificated with ldap bind , ldap
connection for checking user in group ( lak_group_member function )
is made with this user's bind, not bind parameters from config file.
User can not ( and have not in our case- I don't know why , but this is
not real problem ) have access to ldap groups.
And so, authentication is always fail.

I added unbind and anonymous bind ( enough in our case):

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

  #!/usr/bin/pulseaudio -nF
  #

  # load system wide configuration
  .include /etc/pulse/default.pa

  ### unload driver modules for Bluetooth hardware
  .ifexists module-bluetooth-policy.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-policy
  .endif

  .ifexists module-bluetooth-discover.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-discover
  .endif

I have tested this, and I can confirm that it allows access to A2DP
  again in the user session.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1703987] Re: New style permitnonkernelfacility imklog option inside module() doesn't work

Status in Rsyslog:

Status in rsyslog package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
artful 8.16.0-1ubuntu5 (which is way behind upstream and debian, btw)

There are two ways to load the imklog module and pass it an option
  (PermitNonKernelFacility in this case).

  a) legacy
  $ModLoad imklog
  $KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on

  b) "new style", also referred to as "v6+":
  module(load="imklog" permitnonkernelfacility="on")

For a while the ubuntu package was using a mix: loading the module
with the new style, but setting the option via the legacy method. In
bug #1531622 this was fixed for yakkety+.

Problem is, upstream isn't honouring the new style option setting due
to a bug of its own: https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog/issues/477

  With the legacy config:
  #module(load="imklog" permitnonkernelfacility="on")
  $ModLoad imklog
  $KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on

I get kernel messages in /var/log/syslog:
  root@nsn7:~# grep andreas-was-here /var/log/syslog
  root@nsn7:~# echo andreas-was-here > /dev/kmsg
  root@nsn7:~# grep andreas-was-here /var/log/syslog
  Jul 12 16:46:33 nsn7 kernel: [27774.476193] andreas-was-here
  root@nsn7:~#

But with this new v6 config style:
  module(load="imklog" permitnonkernelfacility="on") # provides kernel logging
support
  #$ModLoad imklog
  #$KLogPermitNonKernelFacility on

The text doesn't show up in /var/log/syslog. That's the upstream bug.

Instead you get played the "audio-test-signal" which is white noise.
To begin with I thought this was a problem with Bluetooth or the

This is the second time a rather serious bug was introduced with an

  #!/usr/bin/pulseaudio -nF
  #

  # load system wide configuration
  .include /etc/pulse/default.pa

  ### unload driver modules for Bluetooth hardware
  .ifexists module-bluetooth-policy.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-policy
  .endif

  .ifexists module-bluetooth-discover.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-discover
  .endif

I have tested this, and I can confirm that it allows access to A2DP
  again in the user session.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1703838] Re: Failure to automatically reconnect after drop - requiring manual reconnect, only successful after second try

2017-07-13 Thread fargoth
I can induce a connection drop by changing the wireless channel on my
router - this also produces a similar result (no auto reconnect) - it
shows like it's trying for a minute or 2, and than shows the up/down
arrows. Selecting the network manually connects immediately.

Here's the NetworkManager log: https://pastebin.com/CB6d8NP4

Attached is the debug wpa_supplicant log starting from the disconnect

Failure to automatically reconnect after drop - requiring manual
reconnect, only successful after second try

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Using Ubuntu 17.04 (64 bit)
  Package version 1.4.4-1ubuntu3.1

This happened to me 3 times today:

The connection drops and is not automatically restored, even though
the network is visible in the nm-applet.

Manually clicking on the network to connect, results in an animation
of the nm-applet showing it's trying, but it gives up after a while
and changes the icon to up\down arrows instead of the wifi sign.

Clicking on it again, and selecting my network again, results in an
almost instant reconnection, which implies that the computer should
have known to do it automatically instead of requiring me to tell it
to connect again (let alone twice).

Here is the journal from a system startup:

  https://pastebin.com/hGrFEWiU

And here is the journal from one such unsuccessful reconnect.
I've added (*** comments ***) to mark where I've manually tried to reconnect
(twice, second time successfully):

  https://pastebin.com/TAyt6McQ

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Multipath users using EMC XtremIO storage as boot device or at install time
may run into this issue. With the module unavailable the device is more often
than not unavailable. Any users changing path selector to 'queue-length' with
other storage devices may also be affected.

  [Test case]
  1) Install on multipath system using EMC XtremIO storage / OR:
   a) Start d-i install on qemu with multipath enabled
   b) exit to d-i menu
   c) modify /etc/multipath.conf to define path selector as 'queue-length' for
the local qemu device.
   d) restart multipathd if necessary.
  2) Try to complete the install, setting up storage as multipath and using the
multipath device as boot disk.
  3) Reboot to disk.

In a success case, the install should complete successfully without
requiring manual configuration from the user to support the multipath
storage past the normal detection of multipath and partitioning.

In a failure case, the install may not complete, or rebooting may fail
or lead to a system booted on a single path of the multipath device
  (ie. / on /dev/sda2 rather than /dev/mpatha2).

  [Regression Potential]
The inclusion of a new multipath path selector driver should not cause any
regressions, but any failure to detect, configure or boot on multipath devices
following this change on XtremIO hardware or otherwise would constitute a
regression potentially caused by this change.

  ---

  ---Problem Description---
dm-queue-length module is not included in installer/initramfs

On Ubuntu, multipath devices using the 'queue-length' path selector
  are non-functional on both the installer and initramfs environments;
because the 'dm-queue-length' kernel module is not included in them.

The multipath-modules.udeb (src:linux) does not include it in the installer,
nor multipath-tools-boot (src:multipath-tools) installs it in the initramfs.

One example is the EMC XtremIO storage, which has 'queue-length' defined as
its path selector in the default multipath configuration, at least on 16.04.

Other products may be affected if they are manually configured to use that
path selector (e.g., via /etc/multipath.conf), and the mere switch of that
might render the system _unbootable_ if booting from multipath, since the
  initramfs is affected.

More recently this and another storage changed default path selectors out
of 'queue-length', however, it's virtually possible for any storage system
to be affected, with the described manual configuration change. So, this
change is also desired on for the next stable release, 17.04, and later.

Patches are provided for 16.04 and 17.04.

Error logs in LP comment #6.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1593907] Re: ntpdate startup routine prevents ntp service from launching up on Ubuntu 16.04 server on system boot; manually starting ntp service works: [FIX in DESCRIPTION], just

2017-07-13 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Verified on all four targeted releases:
- the hook does no more start a disabled ntp
- the hook multiple times does no more is a thundering herd of stop/start ntp
- ntpdate does not stop ntp, warp time, start ntp (might warp back if
configured differently)
- ntpdate no clashing with a (potentially) running ntp is not fatal (there is a
log entry of the ntp socket being already in use, but that is correct - one
could precheck if running and avoid even trying, but much better than
restarting or timewarping)

No regression seen yet, so hopefully all is good. Setting verifications to done.
Still if some of the affected could test in addition to that that would be
great.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Fixes several broken cases, those are:
   * Case 1 - ntp configured to drift time slowly, but time jumping
   - ntp is running and drifts time towards a target being way off
   - an interface comes up
   - stop ntpd
   - warp time via ntpdate-debian (static interfaces will even set -b)
   - (re-)start ntpd
   - if users relied on non-time warp they are now in trouble

   * Case 2 - ntp start/stop storms
   - ntpd comes up normally
   - the admin brings interfaces up/down rather often
   - ntp is restarted very very often due to this for no reason
=> reason for bugs like debian 823533

   * Case 3 - unintentional enablement of ntp
   - ntpd is installed but disabled (for whatever reason)
   - all is fine on any ifup/down
   - one installs ntpdate, maybe even without realizing due to a depends
   - now on the next ifup ntpd (or openntpd) will be started

   * Solution, drop the broken Delta

  [Test Case]

   * Testing Case 2/3 as it is the easiest, case 1 needs a more complex
setup to cause the time drift but otherwise works the same way.
 - install ntp and ntpdate
 - stop ntp
 - ifup/ifdown an interface multiple times; as simplification you can
also call /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate directly (not that this
spawns the change asnchronous and locks concurrency, so do that a
few times over the time of a minute or so)
 - the service of ntp should still be stopped and not report plenty of
   restarts

  [Regression Potential]

   * It improves a lot of cases (otherwise we wouldn't SRU), but there is
one regression potential I can see:

 - users that relied on starting NTP later on after other interfaces
got up due to that code in ntpdate which did that as a side effect.
But that is outweigh by Case2/3 for the majority of users. And even
Case1 only hits this potential regression on e.g. late network
intialization, but in that case please remind that the default
   (systemd timedatectl) would handle that.

 - Since most users of ntp do not install ntpdate (which doesn't work
when ntp is active) we should be rather safe to assume that almost
no one should rely on that side effect.

 - Furthermore this is a Ubuntu Delta for very long, cause issues (see
the references on the git commit) but never made it into Debian -
in that sense another indicator it isn't an important delta to
   have.

  [Other Info]

   * The original intention "what if net is available too late" fixed
correctly would not be part of ntpdate, but ntp and additionally
check if it is actually meant to be enabled - but I never seen/heard
of any of it since systemd is around - maybe new ordering mostly
 avoids the original issue.

  ---

I've installed ntp service on the clean ubuntu 16.04 server system.
Configured it. Checked that it works, but, after reboot, it doesn't start
automatically.
When I check: 'systemctl is-enabled ntp', it shows enabled.
If I manually start it 'systemctl start ntp' it starts just fine and woks
correctly,
but until I manually start it, 'systemctl status ntp' shows:

Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/ntp; bad; vendor preset: enabled)

  Bluetooth audio in GDM.

Further discussion (and the source of my understanding about this
  issue) upstream are here:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=805414

  To summarise:

GDM opens the A2DP profile for a11y purposes to allow screenreaders to
output over BT audio devices. However Pulse doesn't release those
devices when no audio is being played and the upshot is that once in
the users session A2DP is not available for any Bluetooth audio
devices, this means that you can only use the low quality profile
  HSP/HFP.

There is a proposed workaround, but this means that a11y tools which
need to output audio won't be able to use Bluetooth devices within
  GDM.

I think that for 17.10 shipping this work-around is acceptable, and we
should revisit in the 18.04 cycle to try and get a proper fix in PA.
  The suggested PA bug is:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57167

but that hasn't seen movement since 2012.

  = The work around =

  From the Debian wiki: https://wiki.debian.org/BluetoothUser/a2dp

Disable the Bluetooth sink in the GDM PA daemon.

  Add this to /var/lib/gdm3/.config/pulse/default.pa

  #!/usr/bin/pulseaudio -nF
  #

  # load system wide configuration
  .include /etc/pulse/default.pa

  ### unload driver modules for Bluetooth hardware
  .ifexists module-bluetooth-policy.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-policy
  .endif

  .ifexists module-bluetooth-discover.so
unload-module module-bluetooth-discover
  .endif

I have tested this, and I can confirm that it allows access to A2DP
  again in the user session.

2017-07-13 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Please do note that in addtion to all we did before we also checked one
more corner case before movign to proposed. The one that ntp was meant
to be active, but came up before e.g. ppp0 and due to that can't resolve
peers. It turns out ntp relaized networks that get enable later and
triggers its resolver - so the stop/start on ifup hook wasn't needed to
keep that working.

Doing SRU verifications now ...

   * Case 2 - ntp start/stop storms

  Active: inactive (deadi)

Installed 1.29ubuntu2 version of init-systems-helper, but it didn't
  fix the problem.

Found a bugreport on ntpd package:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntp/+bug/1577596

led to solution that involves a change to be made in file:

  /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate

  of ntpdate package

  After changing from:
  __CODE_START__

  invoke-rc.d --quiet $service stop >/dev/null 2>&1 || true

   # Avoid running more than one at a time
   flock -n /run/lock/ntpdate

Dedicated mono test sound is unavailable

Bug description:
When testing stereo speakers you get the "Front left" and "Front
right" samples, but no such sample exists for mono speakers e.g.
  HSP/HFP bluetooth devices.

Instead you get played the "audio-test-signal" which is white noise.
To begin with I thought this was a problem with Bluetooth or the
speaker itself, but it's just the sample being used.

There is a bug upstream to provide this sample, but in the meantime I
think playing the "audio-channel-front-center.oga" is a suitable
  standin.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1703763] Re: How to correctly transition from packaged to dh_apparmor generated local includes

2017-07-13 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thanks Jamie,
I wanted to make sure there is no easier "yeah it works that way".

I tested various combinations and I'm happy with using a normal
rm_conffile plus the following snippet in postinst "configure":

# transition from packaged to dh_apparmor generated local aa includes
# all other cases (no delta rm, abort, ...) are handled by rm_conffile
# can be dropped >18.04
if [ -n "$2" ] && dpkg --compare-versions -- "$2" le-nl "3.5.0-1ubuntu1~"; then
for CONFFILE in /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.libvirtd
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-helper; do
if [ -e "$CONFFILE.dpkg-backup" ]; then
echo "Obsolete conffile $CONFFILE has been modified by you."
echo "These local includes are now generated by dh_apparmor"
echo "Carrying over your changes into $CONFFILE ..."
mv -f "$CONFFILE.dpkg-backup" "$CONFFILE"
fi
done
fi

This has the nice benefit that checksum comparison, abort, and much more will
be done by dpkg_maintsscript_helper still.
Only the one special case where it would on finish_rm_conffile have made it a
backup is thereby overruled and becomes this special "move over target".
dh_apparmor was so kind to not complain about that later on and keep it as-is
(as it always does as it only "fills" missing local includes.
The tracking in dpkg status is also correctly updated (no more listed as
obsolete)

I'll consider the bug done and mark it as not a bug (=invalid), this
update was mostly for documentation purpose.

Title:
How to correctly transition from packaged to dh_apparmor generated
  local includes

Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Hi,
this is more a request how to "correctly do it" instead of a bug.
I asked on IRC but got no reply yet, so to not forget I better file a bug.

I have a package (libvirt) which used to explicitly package the local
apparmor include files.
So the package had files like:
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.libvirtd

These files were carried in the package itself and considered
  conffiles.

These days that isn't needed anymore, thanks to dh_apparmor generating such
local includes.
Aligning with Debian we dropped the explicit files and use the generated ones.

All fine so far, but I wonder how to correctly "transition" that.

  A) If I do rm_conffile
A1) the user had no changes, old file gets removed, new one generated all is
good
A2) the user had changes, old file gets retained in backup, new one
generated lacks the old content
  B) if I not have a rm_conffile
B1) the user had no changes, the old file stays (and works) but is
considered obsolete by "dpkg --status"
B2) the user had changes, the old file stays (and works) but is considered
obsolete by "dpkg --status"

So far I think I'll go with B, as dropping user changes - especially
thos explicitly added to likely fix/avoid something - would be bad.
But I don't like having obsolete files forever.

Is there a C) which would be able to retain old changes if there were
any, but in any case make sure it is dropped from the package to no
more be considered an obsolete conffile?
