[Touch-packages] [Bug 1868332] Re: Scrolling jumps after switching tabs
** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1868332 Title: Scrolling jumps after switching tabs Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The bug has to do with mouse scrolling and switching windows; I do not know which package it is part of. The problem arises when I have two windows of two different applications open, such as Google Chrome and a text editor. To reproduce the error, I have Google Chrome open initially, then I switch tabs (using the shortcut Alt-Tab) to the text editor, then scroll around on the text editor. When I Alt-Tab back to Google Chrome, my first scroll leads to the page jumping by a large amount either up or down before resuming regular mouse scrolling. It is only this initial scroll after switching tabs that jumps like this. It also happens regardless of whether I use a mouse or the touch pad. I also notice, given the same scenario, if I scroll up on the text editor, the Google Chrome initial scroll jump will be upward. If I scroll down on the text editor, the Chrome jump will be downward. If I scroll a lot in the text editor, the Chrome jump will be large. If I scroll a small amount in the text editor, the Chrome jump will be small. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1864992] Autopkgtest regression report (kmod/24-1ubuntu3.3)
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted kmod (24-1ubuntu3.3) for bionic have finished running. The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package: systemd/237-3ubuntu10.39 (i386) linux-hwe-5.0/5.0.0-44.48~18.04.1 (armhf) ipset/6.34-1 (ppc64el, s390x, amd64, i386, arm64) chrony/3.2-4ubuntu4.2 (ppc64el, s390x, amd64, armhf, i386, arm64) Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures, proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding autopkgtest regressions [1]. https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed- migration/bionic/update_excuses.html#kmod [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Autopkgtest_Regressions Thank you! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to kmod in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1864992 Title: depmod: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:515 lookup_builtin_file() could not open builtin file '/lib/modules/5.4.0-14-generic/modules.builtin.bin' Status in kmod package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in kmod source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in kmod source package in Disco: Won't Fix Status in kmod source package in Eoan: Fix Committed Status in kmod source package in Focal: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] * There is no impact to the end user but spurious error messages (tons of them) causing the perception that something really bad happened: Example of one of those tons of messages: depmod: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:515 lookup_builtin_file() could not open builtin file '/lib/modules/5.4.0-14-generic/modules.builtin.bin' [Test Case] * sudo rm /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/modules.builtin.bin * sudo depmod -a -F /boot/System.map-$(uname -r) This will cause the spurious error messages because depmod -a -F won't have the "modules.builtin.bin" file created. This is a simulation of what the linux-modules postinst package does and an example of why the messages happen. [Regression Potential] * We are reverting a debian patch so we will be closer to upstream code base. * the change is about 2 different priority changes on verbosity, so biggest problem would be extra (or fewer) stdout/stderr messages (for scripts relying on them, for example). * I have tested with kernels 4.15, 5.0 and 5.3 and all of them seemed to work fine. [Other Info] * Original Description: During a Focal install from the ISO image several errors like: depmod: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:515 lookup_builtin_file() could not open builtin file '/lib/modules/5.4.0-14-generic/modules.builtin.bin' are logged in curtin's install logs. The installed system boots and works fine, but the error is clearly something we want to get rid of. At first glance this seems related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1863261 but the version of initramfs-tools in both the installer and installed system (checked with `chroot /target dpkg -l initramfs-tools` during the installation) is 0.136ubuntu1, which should contain Rafael's fix for that bug. I wonder if the update-initramfs diversion has a role here. I verified this happens at least on amd64 and arm64. I'm attaching the full install logs for a amd64 installation. --- ProblemType: Bug AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k5.4.0-14-generic. They seem to be testing behaviour now explicitly forbidden by the fix to be honest! test_lock_symlink fails because the lock file is now always in /var/lock/apport/ and not in $APPORT_REPORT_DIR. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1859754] Re: add ucm to make alsa/sof driver work under PA (variants of Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th, Dell cnl and cml machines)
@Eddie, "When I plug in a headset with a mic in the 3.5mm port, it still seems to use the internal mic instead of that of the headset." [Impact] In the oem project, we have a couple of Lenovo and Dell machines which connect the digital mic to PCH directly, this design needs the new sound driver soc/sof, and this driver can't work under pulseaudio automatically, we need to integrate the ucm for the driver, then the sof dirver could work under pulseaudio and gnome. This ucm is maintained by intel audio team, and it is not upstreamed and will not be upstreamed, since the community is developing the ucm2 which is based on at least alsa-lib-1.2.1 and pulseaudio-v14.0 (still under developing), for bionic and eoan, we have to integrate this ucm since the alsa-lib version is too low. For focal and future version, we are going to integrate the ucm2 after the ucm2 is ready. This ucm is already verified in the oem project, now it is time to put it into the stock ubuntu. [Fix] These ucm files are backported from sof_ucm1 branch of https://github.com/thesofproject/alsa-ucm-conf.git [Test Case] Boot the eoan kernel or oem-osp1-bionic kernel, then check the log of pulseaudio, the ucm files are loaded successfully, then check the gnome-sound-setting, both output and input devices work well. [Regression Risk] Low, just add some new ucm files, and this will not affect other machines, and those new added ucm files are only used by specific machines which enable the sof driver. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1868352] [NEW] grub2 2.04-1ubuntu12.2 breaks boot on some machines
Public bug reported: 2.04-1ubuntu12.2 broke boot on my machine. It doesn't work with kernels that don't have CONFIG_EFI_STUB=y configured. This really needs to fall back to the old mode if EFI handover is not supported by the kernel. Also, after using a kernel with CONFIG_EFI_STUB=y it still failed to boot one of my machines with root specified by UUID. I was able to workaround it by manually specifying the boot device with /dev/nvme0n1p2 at the grub menu, and then specifying GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true in /etc/default/grub. ** Description changed: Filing this bug for clarification and tracking on Ubuntu Bionic and later. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1867029] Re: Package ifupdown breaks network configuration by cloud-init
** Changed in: cloud-init Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: cloud-init Assignee: (unassigned) => Chad Smith (chad.smith) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ifupdown in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867029 Title: Package ifupdown breaks network configuration by cloud-init Status in cloud-init: In Progress Status in ifupdown package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: It appears the `ifupdown` package breaks networking configuration that cloud-init would normally handle (?) on both providers. The result, if you image an instance with the `ifupdown` package installed, is that the image is not bootable by Azure/AWS. I'm not familiar with how Azure/AWS/etc use cloud-init for network start up however. I'm filing here for now, in case `cloud-init` needs to be more defensive against `ifupdown`. To reproduce with Packer (I confirmed this method): * Add necessary Azure subscription env vars from `ifupdown-bug.json` * `packer build ifupdown-bug.json` * Try to boot an instance with resulting image * Instance will never boot -- more specifically, networking never comes up. See `boot.log` for an example boot To reproduce manually (only a guess, I did not confirm): * Boot 18.04 ubuntu instance * Install ifupdown * Image the instance * Try to boot instance using new image * Instance won't boot I hit this with Packer, creating new images for booting instances in scaling groups -- `ifupdown` is brought in by `salt`. If this is reproducible via manual installation, there could be some backup images/snapshots that are unable to boot though. This appears to be because cloud-init network start up operations are broken by whatever `ifupdown` sysv/systemd scripts perform on boot. With `ifupdown` installed on Azure, `eth0` does not get an IP address, the instance never fully boots according to Azure, and it will enter an error state. On AWS, the instance boots, but network operations like SSH fail. The `boot.log` is from Azure. Eventually `cloud-init` gives an exception (see `exception.log`), but this seems like a secondary issue related to networking being down. I did try to upgrade cloud-init using nightly PPAs (version 20.1 I believe), but no luck. This is on Ubuntu 18.04 instances from Azure marketplace and AWS Canonical AMI, cloud-init version `19.4-33-gbb4131a2-0ubuntu1~18.04.1`. To mount this directory, you can add to your /etc/fstab file: tracefs /sys/kernel/tracing tracefs defaults0 0 Or you can mount it at run time with: mount -t tracefs nodev /sys/kernel/tracing For quicker access to that directory you may want to make a soft link to it: ln -s /sys/kernel/tracing /tracing *** NOTICE *** Before 4.1, all ftrace tracing control files were within the debugfs file system, which is typically located at /sys/kernel/debug/tracing. For backward compatibility, when mounting the debugfs file system, the tracefs file system will be automatically mounted at: /sys/kernel/debug/tracing All files located in the tracefs file system will be located in that debugfs file system directory as well. *** NOTICE *** ... That documents the new systemd units in the changelog, but doesn't explain what the impact is of these changes. There don't appear to have been any modprobe calls from systemd units previously, what calls have been moved to these units? All modprobe calls previously handled internally to udev? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1859754] Re: add ucm to make alsa/sof driver work under PA (variants of Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th, Dell cnl and cml machines)
@hui.wang I'm not sure that I should file a bug against the Linux kernel; My USB headset works fine on 5.3.0-43-generic if I *don't* install libasound2 from your PPA. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-lib in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1859754 Title: add ucm to make alsa/sof driver work under PA (variants of Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th, Dell cnl and cml machines) Status in HWE Next: New Status in alsa-lib package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in alsa-lib source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in alsa-lib source package in Eoan: Fix Committed Bug description: This ucm is only for Eoan and Bionic, for focal and future versions, we plan to integrate the ucm2 instead of this ucm, and the ucm2 depends on the alsa-lib-1.2.1 and pluseaudio-v14, the ucm2 is under developing by the community, is not ready yet. [Impact] In the oem project, we have a couple of Lenovo and Dell machines which connect the digital mic to PCH directly, this design needs the new sound driver soc/sof, and this driver can't work under pulseaudio automatically, we need to integrate the ucm for the driver, then the sof dirver could work under pulseaudio and gnome. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1868286] [NEW] Disable A2DP when switch input device
Public bug reported: Hi, How to reproduce: 1) Connect the headset via Bluetooth 2) Automatically will use A2DP (until here everything ok) 3) Go to sound settings, will be the "internal microphone" selected. Switch to use the microphone of the headset and will switch to low-quality audio HSP Happens with the upgrade: bluez:amd64 (5.50-0ubuntu4 -> 5.50-0ubuntu5). Before that upgrade, everything was working fine. Only the automatic selection of A2DP fails sometimes but the microphone and A2DP were possible to use. After the mentioned upgrade to 5.50-0ubuntu5, it's just impossible to use the microphone and the A2DP audio at the same time. When I do the switch in the input device in the syslog it's the following message: kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown connection handle 0 I tried to downgrade to 5.50-0ubuntu4 but didn't work, the A2DP is not usable at all. pulseaudio[8370]: Refused to switch profile to a2dp_sink: Not connected Description:Ubuntu 19.10 Release:19.10 Device: LE_WH-H900N (h.ear) Regards, ** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1868286 Title: Disable A2DP when switch input device Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi, How to reproduce: 1) Connect the headset via Bluetooth 2) Automatically will use A2DP (until here everything ok) 3) Go to sound settings, will be the "internal microphone" selected. [Touch-packages] [Bug 962082] Re: Profiles that require duplex audio like Head Set (HSP) and Hands Free (HFP) do not work on machines with Broadcom BCM20702A0 Bluetooth chips
@Tim Abell (comment #18): I also have D-Link DBT-122. AD2P works fine, while I have no audio in HSP/HFP mode in Xenial. I didn't try the mic, but I bet it doesn't work either. How to reproduce: (1) Pair a bluetooth headset with a machine equipped with a BCM20702A0. (2) Activate the device. Usually there is a button on the headset you should press to notify the bluetooth stack that you're ready to use the device. This creates SCO link and the plumbs the audio components. (3) Open the sound settings tool and select the bluetooth device under the "Input" and "Output" tabs. Under each tab you should see a table with an entry that has a headset icon on the left with the bluetooth device name to the right. This is the item to select. Now, everything should be configured so that you can use your bluetooth device to hear and record audio. Test this by: Testing Input: (1) In the sound settings tool, select the "Input" tab. (2) Make sure the "Input Volume" is not muted and the scale widget is not set to zero. (3) Make sounds into the headset mic -- you should see the "Input Level" bar raise. Testing Output: In the same program: (1) Select the "Hardware" tab. (2) In the box labeled "Choose a device to configure", select your bluetooth device. (3) A combobox should appear at the bottom of the window labeled "Settings for the selected device". Choose "Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP)". (4) Now click on the "Test Speakers" button to the right. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1859754] Re: add ucm to make alsa/sof driver work under PA (variants of Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th, Dell cnl and cml machines)
I tried kernel 5.3.0-43 from proposed but my notebook does not wake up from S3 suspend anymore (Lenovo Carbon X1 7th gen). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1868210] [NEW] [SRU] Load ucm on Lenovo notebooks based on bios version
Public bug reported: [Impact] On some lenovo notebooks, ucm files are not loaded and mic can't be used [Fix] UCM was loaded based on cardlongname, but that can't cover all configs of the same model. Lenovo suggested to load ucm by the first 3 letters of /sys/devices/virtual/dmi/id/bios_version, so that all configs could use just one ucm.
