Thanks - in Ubuntu releases 18.04 onwards debug symbols are provided via the separate -dbgsyms packages which require extra configuration - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash TL;DR: echo "deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs) main restricted universe multiverse" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list echo -e "deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs)-updates main restricted universe multiverse\ndeb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com $(lsb_release -cs)-proposed main restricted universe multiverse" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ddebs.list sudo apt install ubuntu-dbgsym-keyring sudo apt update sudo apt install systemd-dbgsym gdb /sbin/init bug1886115.core (gdb) bt Which gives the following more complete stack trace (sadly a bunch of stuff has been optimised out, but also since this is crashing in freep() it seems that memory corruption has already occurred prior to this point and we don't have any info as to where this happened): #0 0x7f16807ba187 in kill () at ../sysdeps/unix/syscall-template.S:78 #1 0x563b957223b7 in crash (sig=11) at ../src/core/main.c:196 #2 #3 __GI___libc_free (mem=0x4a60d140dfd9a5) at malloc.c:3103 #4 0x563b9577c22e in freep () at ../src/basic/alloc-util.h:61 #5 unit_fail_if_noncanonical (u=, where=) at ../src/core/unit.c:4774 #6 0x563b957672d6 in mount_enter_mounting (m=0x563b9782dba0) at ../src/core/mount.c:946 #7 mount_start.lto_priv.216 (u=0x563b9782dba0) at ../src/core/mount.c:1092 #8 0x563b9576ba22 in unit_start (u=0x563b9782dba0) at ../src/core/unit.c:1861 #9 job_perform_on_unit.lto_priv.424 (j=0x7ffe78153248) at ../src/core/job.c:553 #10 0x563b9574f51a in job_run_and_invalidate (j=) at ../src/core/job.c:618 #11 manager_dispatch_run_queue.lto_priv.429 (source=, userdata=, userdata=) at ../src/core/manager.c:1830 #12 0x7f16803a509a in source_dispatch (s=s@entry=0x563b9780e8c0) at ../src/libsystemd/sd-event/sd-event.c:2341 #13 0x7f16803a53ea in sd_event_dispatch (e=, e@entry=0x563b9780e620) at ../src/libsystemd/sd-event/sd-event.c:2663 #14 0x7f16803a5579 in sd_event_run (e=, timeout=18446744073709551615) at ../src/libsystemd/sd-event/sd-event.c:2723 #15 0x563b9572a49d in manager_loop (m=0x563b97810d90) at ../src/core/manager.c:2541 #16 invoke_main_loop (m=0x563b97810d90, ret_reexecute=0x7ffe7815347a, ret_retval=, ret_shutdown_verb=, ret_fds=0x7ffe78153480, ret_switch_root_dir=0x7ffe781534a8, ret_switch_root_init=0x7ffe781534a0, ret_error_message=0x7ffe78153490) at ../src/core/main.c:1778 #17 0x563b9571560c in main (argc=, argv=) at ../src/core/main.c:2561 What is really needed is to try and catch the memory corruption as it happens - I am not sure if it is possible to run systemd via valgrind but this could be one option. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886115 Title: libseccomp 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.2 causes systemd to segfault on boot Status in libseccomp package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After applying updates to Ubuntu 18.04 my desktop (apple mini with i5-2415M CPU) failed to complete the boot process. This is a timing-sensitive Heisenbug, so the rate of occurrence varies from one system to another. Some hardware will not experience the issue at all, others will only occasionally experience the issue, and then there are the unlucky who are unable to boot at all, no matter how many times they restart. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1861941] Re: bcache by-uuid links disappear after mounting bcache0
Ok, I'm going to revert this from the queued-up focal commits before uploading, as IIUC the /dev/disk/by-uuid/ symlink shouldn't actually matter, since the symlink that should be used is /dev/bcache/by-uuid/. And based on comment 47 it sounds like that's accurate, and the real fix needs to go into bcache-utils to properly create the dev/bcache/by-uuid/ symlink. Cheers, Jérôme ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #207629 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207629 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1823076 Title: System wakes up immediately after suspend if Bluetooth is still enabled Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After replacing my USB mouse with a BT mouse, I noticed my machine would no longer suspend without immediately waking up. i.e. I suspend and see the light go into the slow fade in and out for one cycle and then goes solid and the display wakes up again. If I disable BT (via blueman applet) suspend works fine. I've fixed this by shutting down the BT service before suspend, and starting it back up on wake, as indicated here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/797590/ubuntu-wakes-up-immediately- after-suspend Perhaps this script should be included in blueZ as suspend issues seem very hard to debug and the immediate wake after suspend could be caused many any number of things. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1886412] Re: $ ubuntu-bug xorg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read 'How to report bugs effectively' http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1876831] Re: Microbit WebUSB Udev Rule Missing
I believe you have some udev rule, probably located in /lib/udev/rules.d/, that's setting the device group to 'plugdev' so that you can access it - just like your custom rule does in focal. I think you'll have to determine which rule it is so we can check for changes between 19.10 and focal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876831 Title: Microbit WebUSB Udev Rule Missing Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Expected Result: Micro:Bit shows under Web USB devices in chrome as in 19.10 What happened: Micro:bit does not show under Web USB Devices unless Udev rules are added. I re-installed my computer recently to 20.04 as my SSD Died around the time it came out so decided to use it as a chance to upgrade at the same time. I noticed when trying to use the WebUSB Feature of the Micro:bit it was no longer detected by chrome (not via the snap and was direct deb) and to confirm this issue I tried on my Ubuntu 19.10 laptop and it detected the micro:bit via webusb no issue. After looking around I added the Udev rule from the microbit site at https://support.microbit.org/support/solutions/articles/19000105428 -webusb-troubleshooting#Linux and it did start to work under 20.04. I would call this a bug, as for many users going from where it's working on one version to not on another I suspect I won't be the only user wondering why it isn't working. If it is where Ubuntu 19.10 and 19.04 (and maybe even earlier) worked then I wouldn't be opening this bug. There are already many bug reports in launchpad where one can see this information. Granted, the user can review it, refuse to send this data, etc. This bug is about the unexpectedness of having that information in the disk space data. If the user sees a prompt like "Would you like to include disk free space information in your report?", or "Would you like to include the output of the df(1) command in your report?", that doesn't immediately translate to "Would you like to include disk free space information and a list of all installed snaps and their revision numbers in your report?". [Test case] Do something that triggers the apport hook and make sure you don't see snaps in there. For example, install xterm, then add exit 1 to the start of the prerm, then run apt remove xterm, and investigate /var/crash/xterm.0.crash after that (delete before running apt). [Regression potential] Fix consists of adding -x squashfs to df output, so might hide other non-snap squashfs images. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1886115] Re: libseccomp 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.2 causes systemd to segfault on boot
Hmmh, if I see this right, there's a systemd-dbg package available for Ubuntu 16.04, but not for 18.04. FWIW, I attached the original core file as bug1886115.core . ** Attachment added: "original core dump of systemd-237-3ubuntu10.41 with libseccomp2-2.4.3-1ubuntu3" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libseccomp/+bug/1886115/+attachment/5390306/+files/bug1886115.core -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886115 Title: libseccomp 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.2 causes systemd to segfault on boot Status in libseccomp package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After applying updates to Ubuntu 18.04 my desktop (apple mini with i5-2415M CPU) failed to complete the boot process. Unfortunately no log files were written during the unsuccessful attempts to boot. Spawning a 2nd root shell (# nohup getty tty5) on a 2nd virtual terminal (tty5) I was able to observe the message 'systemd freezing execution' after I closed the first root shell and resumed the boot process. ** Tags removed: ddstreet -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853164 Title: systemd: /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved error Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in systemd source package in Focal: Triaged Bug description: The functionality exists to allow users to revert to the traditional ifupdown package for network configuration. Alongside this, systemd's often-buggy resolver can be disabled. However, there's a logic error in the systemd- supplied /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved that prevents the system from populating /etc/resolv.conf properly when systemd-resolved is disabled. The issue is here: if [ -x /lib/systemd/systemd-resolved ] ; then Instead of checking to see if the systemd-resolved service is enabled or active, which would be the correct behaviour, this checks for the existence of a binary, assuming that if it exists it's supposed to be used. I've not tested this in the absence of resolvconf, but if systemd-resolved isn't enabled, it's difficult to imagine this code wanting to run. I've tested this with resolvconf and ifupdown driving dhclient, and it corrects the behaviour that was broken with the introduction of systemd-resolved. I'm attaching a patch, and am also including it here for easy access: *** resolved.broken 2019-11-19 15:01:28.785588838 + --- resolved2019-11-19 15:08:06.519430073 + *** *** 14,20 # (D) = master script downs interface # (-) = master script does nothing with this ! if [ -x /lib/systemd/systemd-resolved ] ; then # For safety, first undefine the nasty default make_resolv_conf() make_resolv_conf() { : ; } case "$reason" in --- 14,21 # (D) = master script downs interface # (-) = master script does nothing with this ! systemctl is-active systemd-resolved > /dev/null 2>&1 ! if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then # For safety, first undefine the nasty default make_resolv_conf() make_resolv_conf() { : ; } case "$reason" in To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1853164/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861177] Re: seccomp_rule_add is very slow
Currently, there are autopkgtest regressions on Groovy for the docker.io package : https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/groovy/update_excuses.html#libseccomp These regressions are not due to the new libseccomp (can be reproduced with previous libseccomp version). They are due to a bug in cloud-init when in lxd container, where 'cloud-init status' status returns error. See bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud- init/+bug/1886531 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libseccomp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861177 Title: seccomp_rule_add is very slow Status in snapd: Invalid Status in libseccomp package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in libseccomp source package in Xenial: In Progress Status in libseccomp source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in libseccomp source package in Eoan: In Progress Status in libseccomp source package in Focal: In Progress Status in libseccomp source package in Groovy: In Progress Bug description: [IMPACT] There is a known and patched issue with version 2.4 of libseccomp where certain operations have a large performance regression. This is causing some packages that use libseccomp such as container orchestration systems to occasionally time out or otherwise fail under certain workloads. Please consider porting the patch into the various Ubuntu versions that have version 2.4 of libseccomp and into the backports. The performance patch from version 2.5 (yet to be released) applies cleanly on top of the 2.4 branch of libseccomp. For more information, and for a copy of the patch (which can also be cherry picked from the upstream libseccomp repos) see the similar Debian issue: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=943913 Upstream issue : https://github.com/seccomp/libseccomp/issues/153 Upstream fix : https://github.com/seccomp/libseccomp/pull/180/ [Test Case] For this test case we use Docker on Ubuntu Groovy (20.10) : --> Current libseccomp version #dpkg -l | grep libseccomp ii libseccomp2:amd64 2.4.3-1ubuntu3 amd64high level interface to Linux seccomp filter ## pull ubuntu image # docker pull ubuntu ## create a container # docker run --name test_seccomp -it 74435f89ab78 /bin/bash ## run test case # for i in `seq 1 40`; do (time sudo docker exec test_seccomp true &); done ... MAX TIME : real 0m3,650s user 0m0,025s sys 0m0,028s [Regression Potential] The first of the 2 patches cleans up the code that adds rules to a single filter without changing the logic of the code. The second patch introduces the idea of shadow transactions. On a successful transaction commit the old transaction checkpoint is preserved and is brought up to date with the current filter. The next time a new transaction starts, it checks is the a shadow transaction exist and if so the shadow is used instead of creating a new checkpoint from scratch [1]. This is the patch that mitigates the performance regression. Any potential regression will involve the parts of the code that add rules to filters and/or the code that creates and checks the shadow transactions. [Other] Affected releases : Groovy, Focal, Eoan, Bionic, Xenial. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1881982] Re: DoS vulnerability: cause resource exhaustion
** Changed in: whoopsie (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: whoopsie (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Alex Murray (alexmurray) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to whoopsie in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881982 Title: DoS vulnerability: cause resource exhaustion Status in whoopsie package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, I have found a security issue on whoopsie 0.2.69 and earlier. # Vulnerability description The parse_report() function in whoopsie.c allows attackers to cause a denial of service (memory leak) via a crafted file. Exploitation of this issue causes excessive memory consumption which results in the Linux kernel triggering OOM killer on arbitrary process. This results in the process being terminated by the OOM killer. # Details We have found a memory leak vulnerability during the parsing the crash file, when a collision occurs on GHashTable through g_hash_table_insert(). According to [1], if the key already exists in the GHashTable, its current value is replaced with the new value. If 'key_destory_func' and 'value_destroy_func' are supplied when creating the table, the old value and the passed key are freed using that function. Unfortunately, whoopsie does not handle the old value and the passed key when collision happens. If a crash file contains same repetitive key-value pairs, it leads to memory leak as much as the amount of repetition and results in denial-of-service. [1] https://developer.gnome.org/glib/stable/glib-Hash-Tables.html#g -hash-table-insert # PoC (*Please check the below PoC: whoopsie_killer.py) 1) Generates a certain malformed crash file that contains same repetitive key-value pairs. 2) Trigger the whoopsie to read the generated crash file. 3) After then, the whoopsie process has been killed. # Mitigation (*Please check the below patch: g_hash_table_memory_leak.patch) We should use g_hash_table_new_full() with ‘key_destroy_func’ and ‘value_destroy_func’ functions instead of g_hash_table_new(). Otherwise, before g_hash_table_insert(), we should check the collision via g_hash_table_lookup_extended() and obtain pointer to the old value and remove it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1876831] Re: Microbit WebUSB Udev Rule Missing
** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876831 Title: Microbit WebUSB Udev Rule Missing Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Expected Result: Micro:Bit shows under Web USB devices in chrome as in 19.10 What happened: Micro:bit does not show under Web USB Devices unless Udev rules are added. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1045062] Re: No option to save without BOM (Byte Order Mark)
Thomas? Nano does not add a BOM to any file. If you want to know whether any file contains a BOM, you can start nano with the +1 cursor- positioning directive (like so: nano +1 thefilename) and then type . If the upper right corner then says "Modified", an invisible character (most likely a BOM) was deleted before the first visible one. If so, type ^S and ^X and you're done. If "Modified" does not appear, there is no BOM, and you can simply type ^X to exit. To summarize: to make sure a file does not contain a Byte Order Mark, run 'nano +1' followed by the filename, and type: ^S ^X. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to nano in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045062 Title: No option to save without BOM (Byte Order Mark) Status in nano package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This may be a wishlist type bug. Currently, Nano in precise saves with BOM (Byte Order Mark) by default. There is no way within nano to save without BOM, which requires me to download remote server documents to this system and then update and reupload the documents after using gedit, kate, or some other editor. This sometimes screws up remote PHP programs and scripts, which means it may be prudent to give the option to decide whether to save with or without the Byte Order Mark. To get the output you want, you can use the following code: -- #!/bin/sh #set -e trap '' INT trap 'echo EXIT' EXIT sorry() { echo "Ignored 1"; echo "Ignored 2" sleep 1 echo Back } for i in 3 2 1; do echo "$i" ( trap 'sorry; exit 0' INT sleep 1 ) # || : done echo OUT - If you use bash, instead of dash, it would work even if "set -e" was used and "trap '' INT" was not used. If "set -e" was used with dash, you would have to uncomment "|| :" to make it work. [Touch-packages] [Bug 892317] Re: set -e reverses order of signal handlers
The behavior seems to have changed in later version. I tested dash 0.5.10.2-6. There EXIT trap is not run at all, if -e is used, and you use Ctrl-C. But if you remove the 'exit 2' from the signal trap, EXIT trap will be run regardless of -e setting, when you press Ctrl-C. That is not intuitive. So I think EXIT trap should be run even in case of -e. However, if you do not need custom exit status for the signal trap, you could just remove the exit builtin. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to dash in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/892317 Title: set -e reverses order of signal handlers Status in dash: New Status in dash package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When `-e` is not specified, an INT signal handler runs before an EXIT signal handler; when -e is specified, the EXIT signal handler is run (but only one of its statements) and then the INT signal handler is run. :; /bin/dash < ./trap.sh ^Ctrapped: SIG_ trapped: EXIT 2 next part :; /bin/dash -e < ./trap.sh ^Ctrapped: EXIT 130 trapped: SIG_ With `bash --posix` or `busybox sh`, the order of signal handlers is the same no matter whether `-e` is specified or no. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1871721] Re: Second Monitor on HDMI blank screen/blink screen with Nvidia + Intel & Ubuntu 20.04? (ASUS Laptop)
** Description changed: I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my ASUS laptop with Intel+Nvidia with propietary drivers of Nvidia (I have 440.64 rn) and I connected a second monitor to use it, but I saw that I cannot use it, I just see a blank screen. I tried with a TV of my room and same. The funny part is when I start the laptop to work, I can see the logo of my BIOS and the ASUS logo in the second monitor, even the grub, but after that I can't see nothing. When I reduce the resolution of the second monitor (800x600) then works, but even with that sometimes blinks to black again. Or if this contains potentially sensitive details, you could install the dbg versions of the packages and reproduce the crash and this would provide a more complete stack trace. ** Changed in: libseccomp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886115 Title: libseccomp 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.18.04.2 causes systemd to segfault on boot Status in libseccomp package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After applying updates to Ubuntu 18.04 my desktop (apple mini with i5-2415M CPU) failed to complete the boot process. A few seconds into the boot, the last message displayed is "/var mounted". The system then appears to hang indefinitely. Luckily, the 'rescue' boot image allows the boot process to proceed sufficiently far to allow a root shell to be spawned. Further a core file was created (belonging to /sbin/init) in the root fs --8<-- (gdb) bt #0 0x7f16807ba187 in kill () at ../sysdeps/unix/syscall-template.S:78 #1 0x563b957223b7 in ?? To me that looked a bit like Bug 669702 of Gentoo (https://bugs.gentoo.org/669702) and indeed one of the (few) updates applied just prior the reboot was the update of libseccomp. I was able to circumvent the problem by disabling (commenting out) the syscall filtering requested by systemd (on my system, only /etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.freedesktop.resolve1.service needed to be modified). --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.15 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: MATE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-03-30 (460 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20190210) MachineType: Apple Inc.
