Title:
Add ACCEL_LOCATION=base property for 6 Dell clamshell models

Status in OEM Priority Project:
  New
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
This hwdb update is to avoid unwanted screen rotation when tilting the
  laptop.

This is the update to the previously rolled back SRU LP: #1938259

  [Impact]

   * This fixes unwanted rotations on certain Dell clamshell laptop
  models with accelerometer.

  [Test Plan]

   * On Dell laptops with model SKU 0A36, 0A3E, 0B09, 0B0B, 0B0D, 0B11, install
this package and ensure the kernel is updated to the latest.
   * Screen should be correct side up in login screen and desktop.
   * Tilt the laptop and the screen should not be rotated.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This is to add parameters for certain models in hwdb, and does not
affect any other part of systemd.

   * Only models with the same Dell SKU would be affected.

  [scope]

this is needed for all releases

this is being added to upstream by
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/20314 and
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/20661

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1944404] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia, playback] No sound at all

2021-09-20 Thread Larry Jordan
Public bug reported:

Hi...my problem is that I am using the nVidia GTX card connected by HDMI
cable to a widescreen Samsung monitor that doesn't have speakers.
Ubuntu assumes I can use that to play audio. In reality I'm using
stereo speakers connected to the "center" output from the rear of the
computer. This works fine in windows, but not in Ubuntu 20.04. I've
tried several fixes to similar looking issues on line, but still I don't
get sound. The only option I have under settings is for the
HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GM107 High Definition audio controller [GE Force
940 MX]. I've tried an old solution by adding hdajackretask and I've
tried adjusting volume levels using alsamixer, but those solutions
didn't help. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1944398] [NEW] [Bluetooth Headset, playback] auto_switch=2 doesn't work with Discord

2021-09-20 Thread Chris Harre
Public bug reported:

I am having a problem connecting a bluetooth headset as HSP/HFP
(headset_head_unit). It seems that the only way to use my headset as an
HSP/HFP device is to set module-bluetooth-policy auto_switch=2, as A2DP
is the hard-coded default. It's hard to find information because of the
overwhelming number of issues people have had getting HSP/HFP to work in
the first place. auto_switch=2 does switch the protocol to HSP/HFP, but
in such a way that Discord does not recognize that the device is
connected any longer. If I manually switch my headset to HSP/HFP before
joining a voicechat channel, everything works as expected, but I can
find no way to default my headset to HSP/HFP.

Steps to reproduce:
Open Discord, having previously set input/output to Bluetooth device
Connect Bluetooth headset
Join Voice Chat

Expected result:
Bluetooth unit sets profile to HSP/HFP
Discord outputs and inputs via the headset

Actual result:
Bluetooth unit sets profile to "off"
No output or input through Discord

[Bluetooth Headset, playback] auto_switch=2 doesn't work with Discord

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I am having a problem connecting a bluetooth headset as HSP/HFP
(headset_head_unit). It seems that the only way to use my headset as
an HSP/HFP device is to set module-bluetooth-policy auto_switch=2, as
A2DP is the hard-coded default. It's hard to find information because
of the overwhelming number of issues people have had getting HSP/HFP
to work in the first place. auto_switch=2 does switch the protocol to
HSP/HFP, but in such a way that Discord does not recognize that the
device is connected any longer. If I manually switch my headset to
HSP/HFP before joining a voicechat channel, everything works as
expected, but I can find no way to default my headset to HSP/HFP.

  Steps to reproduce:
Open Discord, having previously set input/output to Bluetooth device
  Connect Bluetooth headset
  Join Voice Chat

  Expected result:
Bluetooth unit sets profile to HSP/HFP
Discord outputs and inputs via the headset

  Actual result:
Bluetooth unit sets profile to "off"
No output or input through Discord

Bug description:

rpcbind binds to a 'random' reserved port at startup, which can
conflict with the reserved port number for other applications that
actually 'own' the reserved port number. One example is cups, which
  uses the reserved port 631.

This prevents the actual 'owner' of the reserved port from starting,
since it can't bind to its reserved port.

Additionally, this can raise alarms from security monitoring software
that does not expect programs to be listening on random reserved
  ports.

  [test case]

start rpcbind and check which ports it is listening on, e.g.:

  $ sudo netstat --inet -p -l | grep rpcbind | grep -v sunrpc
  udp0 0 0.0.0.0:614 0.0.0.0:*
  4678/rpcbind

each time rpcbind is restarted, it will be listening to a different
  'random' port.

  [regression potential]

this adds a way to disable rpcbind from listening to the 'random'
port. any regression would likely prevent rpcbind from starting, or
may cause problems with the interaction between rpcinfo and rpcbind,
as rpcinfo may use the random reserved port in some cases, as detailed
  in the Debian bug.

  [scope]

This is needed only for Bionic and earlier.

In Focal and later, and in Debian, rpcbind defaults to not opening the
random reserved port. The admin can use the -r parameter to cause
rpcbind to restore the old behavior of opening the random reserved
  port.

  [other info]

Note that the -r parameter is a Debian addition, and the upstream
  rpcbind has disabled the random port functionality at build time;
there is no runtime parameter to allow the admin to choose the
  behavior.

Also, as discussed in the Debian bug, disabling this rpcbind 'feature'
is known to cause problems for the rpcinfo program, which is why
Debian introduced the -r parameter. So, when this -r parameter is
backported to Bionic and earlier, we must retain the default behavior
for those releases, which is for rpcbind to open the random reserved
  port.

Thus, the patch for this will first backport the upstream patch that adds
functionality to be able to disable the 'remote calls' function, and also
backports the debian patch to change that from a compile-time to run-time
option. Then, another patch is added, which changes the default back to the
behavior of x/b, which is for remote calls to be enabled by default,
and also adds a check for the existence of an environment variable
"RPCBIND_RMTCALL_DEFAULT_DISABLED" which, if defined (to anything), will change
the default to disabled.

This allows 1) retaining the existing default behavior of rpcbind in x
and b, while also 2) providing a mechanism to change that default for
anyone who does *not* want remote calls to be enabled, and 3) allowing
the mechanism to change the default to remain in place after an
upgrade to Focal. Using the environment variable allows anyone to
disable the remote calls in x and/or b, and then upgrade to Focal
without breaking rpcbind or needing to remove the env var. After the
upgrade to Focal, the environment variable (defined in
  /etc/default/rpcbind and/or /etc/rpcbind.conf) will simply be ignored
without any change needed to the rpcbind package in Focal or later.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 304393]

2021-09-20 Thread fweimer
We are tracking this upstream. It is unclear whether bindresvport will
remain as a public API in glibc. So far, it has not been subject to the
Sun RPC transition in glibc, although libtirpc implements the symbol as
well. It may therefore be possible to turn the glibc symbol in to a
compat symbol, effectively removing it from the glibc API. In this case,
it is unlikely that upstream will implement a denylist, similar to what
is available in libtirpc today.

Applications built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 can already use the
libtirpc denylist functionality for bindresvport by linking against
libtirpc.

2021-09-20 Thread Ian Johnson
Ah Miguel, thanks for realizing my error, I should have probably just
said something like

sudo snap install snapd --edge; sudo snap refresh snapd --edge

which will ensure that it's always installed and gets refreshed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1822156] Re: Cannot parse m3u8 playlist

2021-09-20 Thread moma
Hello,
Yes, it is long time since I filed this report.

I am now using Ubuntu 21.10 (daily version).

I tried to play the file in Totem, but it does not understand the format
(or Gstreamer is missing a plugin for it).

I have installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras package.

I attached a video of my test.

Please tell me if you need additional tests or information.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1941799] Re: Please merge openssh 1:8.4p1-6 from Debian unstable

So this is fun, the upstream openssh actually has the same test failure
when running `make tests`. So it doesn't appear to be something we
introduced here, but it is definitely a problem that needs solving.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1932579] Re: snap pt_BR locale shows warning every time

2021-09-20 Thread Miguel Pires
Hi (or Olá for the PT crowd). I think snapd just wasn't refreshed,
@ioguis' output doesn't show it:

```
$ sudo snap install snapd --edge || sudo snap refresh snapd --edge
[sudo] senha para my-user:
2021/09/18 12:54:59.334587 main.go:176: description of prepare-image's
"" is lowercase in locale "pt_BR": "o directório de destino"
snap "snapd" já está instalado, consulte 'snap help refresh'
```

`snap install ` (when run on an already installed snap) returns 0.
So the right-side of the `||` didn't run and snapd wasn't refreshed to
edge.

@iogui, can you run `sudo snap refresh snapd --edge` and let us know if
`snap list` logs the warning? I've just tested with edge and the fix
seems to be working. If you still see the warning, then could you please
run `snap version` and post the output? Thanks for your help

ufw delete can confuse protocol-specific rule with otherwise matching

Bug description:
UFW versions 0.35 (on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) and 0.36 (on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS)

If a rule is inserted without specifying the protocol, it will default
to both udp and tcp. If a second rule is inserted earlier in the order
that specifies the protocol but is otherwise identical, UFW will
delete the wrong rule if the first rule is deleted.

This is repeatable with the following script:

ufw insert 1 allow from 1.1.1.1/26 to any port 22
ufw insert 2 allow from 1.2.3.4/26 to any port 22
ufw insert 1 allow from 1.2.3.4/26 to any port 22 proto tcp
  iptables -L -n | grep -A 6 "Chain ufw-user-input"
  yes | ufw delete 3
  iptables -L -n | grep -A 4 "Chain ufw-user-input"

  The output is as follows:

  Chain ufw-user-input (1 references)
  target prot opt source destination
  ACCEPT tcp -- 1.2.3.0/26 0.0.0.0/0tcp dpt:22
  ACCEPT tcp -- 1.1.1.0/26 0.0.0.0/0tcp dpt:22
  ACCEPT udp -- 1.1.1.0/26 0.0.0.0/0udp dpt:22
  ACCEPT tcp -- 1.2.3.0/26 0.0.0.0/0tcp dpt:22
  ACCEPT udp -- 1.2.3.0/26 0.0.0.0/0udp dpt:22

  ACCEPT udp -- 1.1.1.0/26 0.0.0.0/0udp dpt:22
  ACCEPT tcp -- 1.2.3.0/26 0.0.0.0/0tcp dpt:22

UFW deleted the first rule for 1.2.3.0 and then the last rule for
1.2.3.0, leaving the wrong rule remaining. Here is the ufw status:

  To Action From
  -- --
  22/tcp ALLOW 1.2.3.0/26
  22 ALLOW 1.1.1.0/26

Mixing ALLOW and REJECT/DENY rules can further result in incorrect
behavior due to this incorrect reordering. On port 22, this could
  render SSH remotely inaccessible.

For example, if one had initially set up the following rule to port 22
  (TCP and UDP)...

ufw insert 1 allow from 1.2.3.4 to any port 22

...and later wanted to further restrict it to only TCP, while
explicitly rejecting any other port 22 connections...

ufw insert 1 allow from 1.2.3.4 to any port 22 proto tcp
ufw insert 2 reject from any to any port 22
  yes | ufw delete 3

...this would result in SSH becoming inaccessible.

Instead if one had the initial configuration...

ufw insert 1 reject from 1.0.0.0/8 to any port 22
ufw insert 2 allow from any to any port 22

...which was later updated to be...

ufw insert 1 reject from 1.0.0.0/8 to any port 22 proto tcp
ufw insert 2 allow from any to any port 22 proto tcp
  yes | ufw delete 3

...this would result in 1.0.0.0/8 incorrectly being allowed to access
port 22. While this is a contrived scenario, it is possible and
  reproducible.

A reboot is required to fix the issue, as it re

Black Screen after Session Unlock from Suspend

Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu Release: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Installation Style: Minimal (selected during GUI install) (Untested against
full installation style)
Patient System Hardware Information: Lenovo ThinkPad P50 (Xenon) - Intel HD
Graphics + NVIDIA Quadro M2000M (NVIDIA Prime enabled w/proprietary drivers)
(GPU is not suspected to be the issue)

  Expected Behavior:
  1) Suspend the system into sleep mode. 2) Awake the system to be greeted by
lock screen. 3) Type in password, press enter. 4)GNOME validates password
successfully. 5) Resume user desktop session.

  Actual Behavior:
  1) Suspend the system into sleep mode. 2) Awake the system to be greeted by
lock screen. 3) Type in password, press enter. 4)GNOME validates password
successfully. 5) GNOME lock screen freezes - spinner stops moving but mouse
cursor and keyboard are responsive (can switch TTYs). After GNOME lock screen
freeze, if you switch out of TTY2 (default for GUI), and back into it, a black
screen is shown. If you attempt to login via TTY1, you are switched to the
black screen session in TTY2.

  Solution / Workaround:
This behavior can be avoided by installing the "gnome-scrensaver" package.
Something in this package is required by GNOME in order to successfully resume
this system from suspend, even though no screen saver settings were configured
after installing it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1860826] Re: pam_unix(sudo:auth): Couldn't open /etc/securetty: No such file or directory

2021-09-20 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

- Hello, after upgrading to focal I found the following in my journalctl
- output:
+ [Impact]
+ Removal of the /etc/securetty file from the system results in useless log
messages whenever pam_unix is invoked, which for some systems is quite a lot of
logging. /etc/securetty is not coming back, and this is not an error.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+ 1. Run 'sudo -s'. Confirm that 'journalctl | grep sudo.*securetty' returns a
line 'sudo[...]: pam_unix(sudo:auth): Couldn't open /etc/securetty: No such
file or directory'.
+ 2. Install libpam-modules update from -proposed.
+ 3. Confirm that 'grep nullok_secure' /etc/pam.d/common-auth returns no lines.
+ 4. Run 'sudo -k'.
+ 5. Run 'sudo -s' again.
+ 6. Confirm that sudo succeeds and gives you a root shell.
+ 7. Confirm that 'journalctl | grep sudo.*securetty' does not show any new
lines.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ PAM is a sensitive package because it's used in all authentication operations
on the system. A bug here could render a user unable to log in to their system.
+
+ Risks are mitigated by:
+ - including a patch that treats the obsolete 'nullok_secure' as an alias for
'nullok' to ensure any user-edited configurations continue to work rather than
throwing errors about unknown options
+ - editing the system-managed /etc/pam.d/common-auth config to use 'nullok'
instead of 'nullok_secure' for future compatibility.
+
+ Because we are editing the system config, this could also cause issues
+ on future upgrades with undesirable prompts to the user. However, the
+ maintainer scripts are not meant to prompt on changes to the pam-config,
+ and this code has been in Debian for a while with no reports of
+ problems.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1932579] Re: snap pt_BR locale shows warning every time

2021-09-20 Thread Fábio Blanco
@anonymouse67, tested just now and the result is the same. I don't know
much about snap commands but maybe the parameter "--edge" is not working
as you expect it to... shouldn't the command be with a parameter "--
channel=latest/edge" to select the channel?... Because I don't know,
I've not tried something different as I'm afraid to mess with my system.

Thanks, Niklas!

Utkarsh, Paride: Since this seems to be a low priority issue, I am
waiting to see if we get a couple more eyes into
https://github.com/openssh-gsskex/openssh-gsskex/pull/21 before adding
this one in our delta (this could even go into Debian first and then we
can start preparing SRUs). Therefore, I am also removing the server-next

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1872145] Re: explicit key offered after all agent keys, auth can fail before explicit key used

2021-09-20 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I have again updated the upstream case, but if they are not willing/convinced
this won't happen as Ubuntu delta or we will have too many small scratches by
being slightly different on this.
So anyone affected/requesting this please chime in on the upstream bug.

Dropping server-next as it can't be acted on as-is.

explicit key offered after all agent keys, auth can fail before
  explicit key used

Status in portable OpenSSH:
  Unknown
Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in openssh package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
A user creates an ssh key and specifies it on the cmdline with 'ssh -i
new_key user@host'. The connection fails with the message "Too many
authentication failures" displayed to the user.

This would lead the user to believe that they failed to put the public
portion of the new key on the destination and it will probably be hard
for the average user to debug this.

The root of this issue is that the user has a number of keys in
~/.ssh/ registered with their ssh agent. The ssh command is offering
each of these keys from the agent to the remote system before trying
the explicit key from the command line. There are enough agent keys
to reach the failure limit (usually 5 keys) with the remote before
they get to the explicit key.

The solution today for the user is to head down into the ssh_config
man page to find '-o IdentitiesOnly=yes' to skip the agent keys and
only use the specified key. But they're unlikely to do this because
'-i' in the ssh man page doesn't suggest this and they'd only look for
this if they actually understood the root cause of the problem, which
  is a bit cruel.

We should consider changing the order of the keys offered to the
remote to use explicit keys first followed by agent keys. It would
seem to me that this would honor the users intent of explicitly
  specifying a key to use.

The current order makes this difficult for anyone fielding a user's
authentication failure report as they must double check that ssh
managed to actually try the key the user specified before it raised an
  error message about authentication failures.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1934221] Re: systemd-resolve segfault

2021-09-20 Thread Lukas Märdian
Thanks for confirming Denys, that's unfortunate...
Would you mind giving the version from this PPA a try
https://launchpad.net/~slyon/+archive/ubuntu/lp1934221 (for Hirsute)?

And maybe also for Focal once the build is ready?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1941799] Re: Please merge openssh 1:8.4p1-6 from Debian unstable

2021-09-20 Thread William Wilson
Bryceh: I've been looking into this a bit. Removing the --oknodo had no
effect on the tests, and neither did removing the diff that we carry
from Debian. I've also noticed that the issue only occurs on kernel <=
5.8. The tests all pass when run in a test environment with kernel 5.11
or 5.13, which is how I missed this in my initial testing.
