[Touch-packages] [Bug 1947920] Re: tracker-miner-f 100% CPU and slows system down

2021-10-20 Thread ExploreWiki
** Description changed:

tracker-miner-f has been using 100% CPU and my system making it almost
unresponsive. This happens around once a month or so when I boot up. It
sometimes lasts for a number of days (or a number of resets) until the
  system becomes responsive again.

The command "tracker status" always shows the same thing: "Estimated
less than one second left" although it appears that everything is
already indexed because the file and folder counts do not increase.

Even so tracker-miner-f is still showing 100% CPU

  inspiron@Inspiron-7348:~$ tracker status
Currently indexed: 101154 files, 16046 folders
Remaining space on database partition: 160.5 GB (64.11%)
Data is still being indexed: Estimated less than one second left

- UPDATE
-
- I have now reset the tracker and it seems to be going through and
- indexing everything again.
-
- tracker reset --hard
-
- Now tracker-miner-f has re-indexed everything and tracker-extract and
- tracker-store are running.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1525628] Re: tracker needs to be killed on every boot

2021-10-20 Thread ExploreWiki
This is still happening in 2021. My system was stuck running tracker-
miner-f with 100% CPU usage and it kept saying 1 second remaining
although it was completed. Every few weeks my system goes completely
sluggish, almost unusable and it is always tracker-miner-f. I just
submitted another bug report before seeing this existing one. Feel free
to remove my new bug report here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/1947920

I've just tried resetting the tracker to see if that helps.

2021-10-20 Thread ExploreWiki
Public bug reported:

tracker-miner-f has been using 100% CPU and my system making it almost
unresponsive. This happens around once a month or so when I boot up. It
sometimes lasts for a number of days (or a number of resets) until the
system becomes responsive again.

The command "tracker status" always shows the same thing: "Estimated

already indexed because the file and folder counts do not increase.

Even so tracker-miner-f is still showing 100% CPU

Thanks for explaining. Apparently I didn't look close enough. :/

Then I suppose we'd better use your small debdiff also for impish (once
the bug description has been updated).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946499] Re: installation of deb-packages with gdebi-gtk shows "dpkg: error: unable to read filedescriptor flags for : Bad file descr

2021-10-20 Thread Dani Llewellyn
The localisation changes were adjusting the translation files to match
the line numbers of the amended python source code. It was picked up
accidentally by my compiling in the checked-out source when testing the
fix - the compile generated new templates with the change. There are
zero changes made to the strings themselves, only the line numbers used
to generate the templates changed.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

dnsmasq 2.79 and below omits EDNS0 OPT records [1] when returning an
empty answer for a domain it is authoritative for. systemd-resolved
seems to get confused by this in certain circumstances; when using the
stub resolver and requesting an address for which there are no
records, there can sometimes be a five second hang in resolution.

  [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extension_Mechanisms_for_DNS

  [Test Plan]

  Test case for bionic:

  -
  IFACE=dummy0
  SUBNET=10.0.0

ip link add $IFACE type dummy
  ifconfig $IFACE ${SUBNET}.1/24
  dnsmasq -h -R -d -C /dev/null -2 $IFACE -z -i $IFACE -I lo
--host-record=test.test,${SUBNET}.1 --server=/test/ &

  dig -t a test.test @10.0.0.1 | grep EDNS
  # returns "; EDNS ..."
  dig -t test.test @10.0.0.1 | grep EDNS
  # again, should return "; EDNS ..." but doesn't.
  # does so with the -proposed package.
  -

  [Where problems could occur]

Problems may occur in case a client queries dnsmasq and relies on
EDNS0 not being available for behaving correctly. This covers cases
where the software querying dnsmasq is buggy or misconfigured.

  [Development Fix]

Fixed upstream in dnsmasq >= 2.80.

  [Stable Fix]

  Partial cherry-pick of upstream commit

http://thekelleys.org.uk/gitweb/?p=dnsmasq.git;a=commit;h=1682d15a744880b0398af75eadf68fe66128af78

The cherry-pick is partial because half if it is already in the
package .diff we have in Bionic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926697] Re: gdebi does not start w msg 'Download failed'

2021-10-20 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I can confirm this bug in 21.04. However, I think it's about to be
coincidentally fixed through the solution to bug #1946499. At least I
can successfully open gdebi-gtk in jammy (without passing a .deb file as
argument), and if the SRU of the other bug gets completed it ought to be
fixed in 21.10 as well.

So since I believe it's fixed in jammy I mark this bug "Fix Released".

@corrado: Please add a comment if you disagree on my conclusion, and
I'll re-open the bug.

** Summary changed:

- gdebi does not start w msg 'Download failed'
+ gdebi-gtk does not start w msg 'Download failed'

** Changed in: gdebi (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946499] Re: installation of deb-packages with gdebi-gtk shows "dpkg: error: unable to read filedescriptor flags for : Bad file descr

2021-10-20 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
My understanding is that it was intended for impish as well. If so, can
somebody (@Norbert, @Martin, anyone...) please edit the bug description
to comply with the SRU template:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template

Another thing: When uploading to Debian, I picked Dani's small debdiff,
i.e. the one without translation changes. gdebi is a universe package
which is normally sync'ed from Debian, so we should avoid to struggle
with translations in an Ubuntu specific upload.

@Dani: From where did you pick the translation changes in your first
bigger debdiff? I'd say that if there are additional translations
available, they'd better be added to the Debian version of gdebi.

  Missing dep8 tests

Status in net-tools package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
  Hash: SHA256

As of April 3, 2017, this source package did not contain package tests
in the current development release of Ubuntu, named Zesty. This was
determined by running `pull-lp-source net-tools zesty` and then
checking for the existence of 'debian/tests/' and
'debian/tests/control'. The package was also checked for 1) a test suite
declaration in the debian/control file, 2) any 'test', 'tests',
'testsuite', or 'test-suite' directories, 3) go tests (if applicable),
and 4) a test suite declared in a setup.py (if applicable).

If you feel this report is incorrect (e.g. this is a library or a source
only package) or the check above missed some other package level test
please reply explaining why and mark this bug as 'invalid'.

Test automation is essential to higher levels of quality and confidence
in updates to packages. dep8 tests [1] specify how automatic testing can
be integrated into packages and then run by package maintainers before
  new uploads.

This defect is to report the absence of these tests and to report the
opportunity as a potential item for development by both new and
  experienced contributors.

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1947871] Re: package linux-image-5.11.0-38-generic 5.11.0-38.42~20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools exited with return code 1

2021-10-20 Thread Alistair
Identified that the command :

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.11.0-38-generic

required approx 88M of disk space on /boot, but I only had 73M:
df -h /boot
bpool/BOOT/ubuntu_l3g9y7 286M 213M 73M 75% /boot

Problem resolved by manually running zsys garbage collection (laptop, so
scheduled jobs are unable to run when the laptop is off/hybernating.

To demonstrate, use "zsysctl machine show to list the ZFS snapshots that
are part of zsys. Use with wc to show the number of snapshots before
garbage collection and after, hopefully with a reduction:

zsysctl machine show|wc
127 4687959
zsysctl service gc
zsysctl machine show|wc
105 3816350

Free space after this has run:
df -lh /boot
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
bpool/BOOT/ubuntu_l3g9y7 375M 202M 174M 54% /boot

Monitoring the Avail space for boot while re-running apt upgrade :
 df -h /boot
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
bpool/BOOT/ubuntu_l3g9y7 375M 289M 86M 78% /boot
before returning to 174M available.
zfs list -r bpool
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
bpool 1.58G 174M 96K /boot
bpool/BOOT1.58G 174M 96K none
bpool/BOOT/ubuntu_l3g9y7 1.58G 174M 201M /boot

The used space in this case is in zfs snapshots, hence zsys garbage
collection resolved this.

Where zfs and zsys are installed, checking free space and "bloat"
required space, with the option/suggestion to run "zsysctl service gc".

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946096] Re: Apply upstream patches to fix problems for Foxconn and Quectel modems.

2021-10-20 Thread Robie Basak
SRU review

I don't see any explanation of what this is fixing, or why this is
needed, so cannot review if the proposed changes qualify for an SRU
under Ubuntu's policies.

Specifically I need an explanation of actual user impact, not just "fix
some problems". Further, note that the procedure says "Do not create a
meta-bug with a title like "Please SRU this" rather than using existing
bug reports". We need actual public bugs for each of the specific
problems that you're fixing. Each of those bugs should be linked from
the changelog, so we can ensure during SRU verification that each of
those issues have individually been verified fixed. Done properly, there
is then no need for a meta bug like this one.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure for full
details on what is expected.

The Focal upload is also missing a proper bug reference - the reference
given doesn't match the standard pattern so didn't get copied to the
Launchpad-Bugs-Fixed header.

I'm rejecting both the Hirsute and Focal uploads since both uploads need
their changelogs fixing to properly reference public bugs that contain
full SRU information.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1939413] Re: /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/libprotobuf.a’ generated with LTO version 9.2 instead of the expected 11.0

2021-10-20 Thread Alexandre Erwin Ittner
I was running a few test builds with different combinations of gcc,
elfutils and protobuf and trying to make the build fail... but it
continues working despite the older elfutils compiled with the newer
gcc.

Last check was with protobuf-3.12.4-1ubuntu3 (from jammy, 4 days ago) in
an impish 0.185-1build1 and then downgraded to a 0.183-8 built with
11.2.0-7ubuntu2 (from impish), but it still does not trigger the issue
despite the mismatches.

I still could not find the reason.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1946965] Re: python3-defaults: py3versions -i does not list python3.10 when it is installed

2021-10-20 Thread Graham Inggs
This doesn't affect upgrades, so I don't think it's needed in focal.
Hirsute also has python3.10 available, but not as a supported version,
and is also affected by this, but I don't think worth another SRU.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1947826] Re: External monitor stopped working after update

2021-10-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears you're just missing a driver for the Nvidia RTX 3060 Mobile
chip (which is what external monitor connectors are usually wired to).
Please open the 'Additional Drivers' app and install the latest Nvidia
driver.
