[Touch-packages] [Bug 1965219] Re: gnome lock screen does not permit reentering password
** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965219 Title: gnome lock screen does not permit reentering password Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Initially, only the mouse works in the gnome lock screen, without any way to get a password prompt. It's likely only happening when returning from suspend with lid open. It's possible to ssh into the machine or to press Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F?? and login without gnome. After this, Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F1 brings up a purple ubuntu login screen, but then after login you simply return to the lock screen with no working keyboard. I never found any method to force unlock from ssh or another vt though, so this always still required a reboot, or killing all of gnome. I've randomly tried some solutions from https://askubuntu.com/questions/1242110/after-upgrading-to- ubuntu-20-04-lockscreen-not-working including reinstalling many gnome components. After this, the behavior initially disappeared by returning from suspend merely took a long time, like 30 seconds or 1 minute. It's possible the delay stems from memory size, but a previous identical lenovo x1 had no such problems. I've now a worse problem just a few hours later where unsuspend went directly to a purple ubuntu login screen, but neither the mouse nor keyboard worked. I've not yet been able to test ssh on this problem. It's possibly all connected to recent firmware upgrades, so I'm happy to try downgrading the firmware, but I've not found any instructions on doing so, or even identifying the firmware upgrade log. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965116] Re: Desktop lockup with because Wayland compositor not fast enough
Thanks for the bug report. Next time a freeze happens please: 1. Wait 10 seconds. 2. Reboot. 3. Run: journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt lspci -k > lspci.txt 4. Attach the resulting text files here. 5. Run: apport-collect 1965116 6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 7. If step 6 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1885990] Re: server: Match has no effect in include file (upstream 3122)
@Jernej Jakob: this is cited as 'released for 1.8.4'. There is a policy for stable distros, never update the version. I asked for a backport, did not get one. The 20.04 version is still at 1.8.2 and it does not has this feature that was introduced after this version. It was released for groovy, that is 20.10. But I had no right for it, I begged for it but was denied. That's life. As of documentation, yes but it's a pretty obscure feature and Ubuntu devs don't have the responsability for writing man pages and there is no need to document a non-existent feature. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885990 Title: server: Match has no effect in include file (upstream 3122) Status in portable OpenSSH: Unknown Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Hello Ubuntu version: focal 20.04 LTS Version: openssh-server: Installed: 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.1 Candidate: 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.1 Expected: match statement in included files work as documented in the fine manual What happens: the statements are ignored. Those services are not yet available in Jammy and we are attaching an image showing that the Desktop message is that we had an error enabling then and that the user should try again. It seems that software-proporties source `/var/lib/ubuntu- advantage/status.json` and assumes the services is available if it appears on the services list and the `entitled` field has the `yes` value. However, it is perfectly possible for a service to be entitled to an user, but not available in the user's machine. We are now suggesting that software-properties also looks at the `available` field in the services json output to make that assumption, this will probably solve the issue we are seeing on Jammy. Another approach would be using the output of `ua status --format json` directly. However, this command will make a request to the contract's server if the user is unattached and maybe it is not wise to use it in that context. However, the output of that command only show services that are available, so we would not need to apply that extra available filter to it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1885990] Re: server: Match has no effect in include file (upstream 3122)
Why is this marked as "fix released"? It's still broken on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, the fix has not been released into it. At the very least, the behavior does not match what is described in the sshd_config man page. Nowhere does it mention that Match blocks don't work inside Include files. Not only that, the config passes config test, and a LogLevel VERBOSE will say that the Match section has been processed, but then it has really been silently ignored! It took me hours to debug this issue back to a post on the mailing list, to the upstream fix, to this bug report. If you add Match statements in an included file, it will generate no error but have no effect. The exact same statements work in the main server config file (/etc/ssh/sshd_config) this is to track upstream bug 3122: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3122 it's fixed but will only be in 8.4 so it affects Ubuntu 20.04 LTS where openssh is at 8.2. I'm not *absolutely* whining for a backport since include files is a new feature for openssl in focal so it's not a regression. Would be nice though :), because include files are standard for any server software in Linux since at least a decade... [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965112] Re: cupsd crashed with SIGSEGV in __strcmp_evex()
Thanks for all the info, it is as I expected, your cupsd.conf has "Browsing No" because you do not use printer sharing. Then the DNS-SD host name is not set in the daemon's internal variable DNSSDHostName and this variable I compared with the host name of the URI of the potential new queue to see whether I have to change it to "localhost" for the case that the printer is a local service (IPP-over-USB, Printer Application, ...). This caused the crash. Now I have added a fallback to the internal variable ServerName if DNSSDHostName is NULL. I could reproduce the bug by doing the command cupsctl --no-share-printers (I had printer sharing on for my OpenPrinting work) and re-trying to access an IPP printer through GTK's print dialog which caused the crash then for me. I have the fix now ready and with it the crash goes away. I will update the Pull Request on CUPS upstream (https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/pull/353) and also the patch on the Ubuntu package. Thanks for the bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to cups in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965112 Title: cupsd crashed with SIGSEGV in __strcmp_evex() Status in cups package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: trying to print with jammy 20220316, to a network printer ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: cups-daemon 2.4.1op1-1ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-22.22-generic 5.15.19 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu79 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass Date: Wed Mar 16 11:00:00 2022 ExecutablePath: /usr/sbin/cupsd InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-02-28 (15 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Alpha amd64 (20220226) Lpstat: Error: command ['lpstat', '-v'] failed with exit code 1: lpstat: No destinations added. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1962214] Re: The documentation around NM's 10-globally-managed-devices.conf is inadequate
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1951653 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1951653 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1951653 can't use NM for ethernet device on 20.04 LTS because it is 'strictly unmanaged' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962214 Title: The documentation around NM's 10-globally-managed-devices.conf is inadequate Status in netplan: New Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: So, we're UBports, porting Ubuntu Touch stack to Ubuntu 20.04. While debugging why NM won't manage the phone's USB network interface, I stumbled upon /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed- devices.conf. This file prevents NM from managing ethernet connection, which confuses me since this file also exists on my laptop, yet NM happily manages its ethernet port. This file exists at part of NetworkManager package in Ubuntu without any documentation. And the reason given in the commit that add it [1] does not mention any specific reason why it's added. Only when looking in the log on my laptop do I see that something places the file with the same name in /run/NetworkManager/conf.d/, and requires greping in /usr/lib to find out that the thing is Netplan's generator binary. Now, that file in /run is empty, which requires another round of searching to find out that Netplan places this file when it's configured to use NM as a renderer. With that in mind, I discovered that /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml exists on my laptop but not the phone. Now, because 'dpkg -S' returns empty result, I need to search again what places this file, with no avail. Luckily, I happen to have a clone of livecd-rootfs on my laptop, which leads me to this commit [2] which finally reveals the reason why this is done: to prevent systems which installs NM after-the-fact to have NM conflicts with e.g. systemd-networkd. All of these knowledge should not require this much searching plus grepping through _binary_ file. If either my laptop was not running Ubuntu or I didn't have livecd-rootfs cloned, it would be much harder to figure this out. They should be more properly documented, probably both in the /usr/lib/ and /run/ files. Thus, this issue is filled against both Netplan and NetworkManager packages. [1] https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager/commit?id=1ab4db73c1f0db30f3af1845a9c41e3c3952dea1 [2] https://git.launchpad.net/livecd-rootfs/commit/?id=d9ce44d73a0a6d91156bb94e03063d541b0f7579 P.S. Arguably, this behavior might be even wrong. According to https://netplan.io: > Obviously, without configuration, netplan will not do anything. This is not really the expected "not do anything". IMO the NM's behavior should be left at the default, unless e.g. the networkd renderer is used, in which case Netplan will disable NetworkManager to not manage interfaces configured by Netplan. However the reason above of preventing conflict with networkd is a valid one, and my proposal doesn't help with that particular case. We got requests to enable marking some interfaces as 'manual', meaning that networkd (or any other backend) would not control its state in any way, requiring the administrator to bring the interface up or down manually. The other request was to mark a interface as 'off', that is: forcing the network interface to always be down until the configuration option isn't changed. This was mainly requested for the networkd backend and requires the new feature of specifying ActivationPolicy= for interfaces, alongside the required netplan changes. This feature is present in systemd 248 - for netplan supported stable series we have decided to cherry-pick and backport this feature on top of current systemd. The networkd feature basically adds the following 5 ActivationPolicy modes: always-down, down, manual, up, always-up. For netplan purposes we only use 'always-down' and 'manual'. The netplan feature, hopefully landing as part of 0.103, is called 'activation-mode' and supports two values: 'manual' and 'off'. [Test Case] For the systemd part: * Bring up a VM test environment with either a dummy interface or an interface that can be safely manipulated. * Upgrade systemd to the -proposed version * For the target interface, create/modify the networkd configuration to include the ActivationPolicy= setting in [Link], for instance: [Match] Name=dummy0 [Network] Address=192.168.10.30/24 Gateway=192.168.10.1 [Link] ActivationPolicy=manual * Try all 5 combinations of ActivationPolicy values: always-down, down, manual, up, always-up - doing `sudo networkctl reload` everytime and checking if the interface behaves as expected. [Where problems could occur] The patchset modifies quite a lot of code in the networkd link handling code paths, so regressions could appear in how networkd manages links - maybe by suddenly certain interfaces not getting brought up as they were before. By code inspection, the implementation defaults to ACTIVATION_POLICY_UP as the default, equivalent to the current behavior, so this risk is small. --- [Original Description] [Old Impact] Users need to write valid configuration, especially for new features that are approved by not yet implemented, such as marking a link "optional". [Old Test case] Write a netplan configuration: network: version: 2 renderer: networkd ethernets: eth0: optional: yes dhcp4: yes And run 'netplan apply'. Netplan should write configuration for the link and not error out with a syntax error. [Old Regression potential] This has a minimal potential for regression: the new keyword was added to be supported already by consumers of netplan (users, cloud-init) so that they could start writing config with the new key and that configuration to be seen as valid by netplan before the backend is implemented. There is no functional change besides allowing for the value to exist in a netplan configuation. --- If I define an interface in netplan (even one which has no DHCP type and no addresses), it's not possible to determine if its adminStatus should be enabled (link up) or disabled (link down). I can completely exclude an interface from the netplan configuration, but I think that

This fails with: # nmcli c up netplan-wan Error: Connection activation failed: No suitable device found for this connection (device lo not available because device is strictly unmanaged). # I don't know why it mentions 'lo' in that message, but the wan interface is unmanaged (as are all devices on the system, but this one is supposed to be managed): # nmcli d status | grep wan wan ethernet unmanaged -- # After much searching, I've figured out that this comes from /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf: keyfile] unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:gsm,except:type:cdma Even though I've told netplan to use the NM renderer for this device, the configuration emitted by netplan is insufficient to override this. Using the workaround from https://askubuntu.com/questions/71159/network-manager-says-device-not- managed (sudo touch /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed- devices.conf) doesn't work, but if I set NetworkManager as the toplevel renderer in /etc/netplan, /run/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf is emitted, which evidently DOES work. But I only have one device that I want rendered by NM, so I shouldn't have to declare NM at the top level of the yaml with a lot of duplication in order to get this result. I would argue that the 10-globally-managed-devices.conf should not be there at all. But if it is going to be, then netplan needs to consistently override it whenever there is any use of the NetworkManager backend. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965138] [NEW] Desktop application should check for service available information before listing it
Public bug reported: Currently, it seems that software-properties is incorrectly assuming that both ESM and Livepatch services can be enabled in a Jammy machine. ** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "jammy-desktop-error.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965138/+attachment/5569662/+files/jammy-desktop-error.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965138 Title: Desktop application should check for service available information before listing it Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Currently, it seems that software-properties is incorrectly assuming that both ESM and Livepatch services can be enabled in a Jammy machine. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965121] Re: "archive.ubuntu.com" was missing in "/etc/apt/sources.list"
Thanks for your bug report. I am reassigning this to the installer, but it seems more likely that this is a result of user error, given that there have not been any relevant changes in focal's installer. For user support, please use askubuntu, discourse, the ubuntu-user mailing lists, or the #ubuntu IRC channel on Libera. If you believe this to be an installer bug, to collect additional data for the bug report, run `apport-collect 1965121` in a terminal and follow the instructions. This will provide us the installer log. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1948882] Re: PulseEffects does not properly initialize on startup
An update: I've noticed that my PE had the button "Global Bypass" occasionally activated (somehow without my consent), and after unpressing it the entire chain now works again. But the initial bug is unfortunately there, that is PE does not get activated on sturtup properly. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1958284] Re: shutdown hangs at "Waiting for process: ..." for 90s, ignoring DefaultTimeoutStopSec
It has recently been picked up by Foundations, and we should have the capacity to start working on this next week. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958284 Title: shutdown hangs at "Waiting for process: ..." for 90s, ignoring DefaultTimeoutStopSec Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in systemd source package in Focal: Confirmed Bug description: With systemd v245 as shipped with 20.04, the shutdown sequence does not use the value of `DefaultTimeoutStopSec` to wait for remaining processes, it instead uses the compiled in default of 90s. This is most visible with services that use `KillMode=process` (docker, k8s, k3s, etc...), especially if the remaining processes do not handle `SIGTERM` or choose to ignore it. For example: ``` [ OK ] Finished Reboot. [ OK ] Reached target Reboot. [ 243.652848 ] systemd-shutdown[1]: Waiting for process: containerd-shim, containerd-shim, containerd-shim, fluent-bit --- hangs here for 90s even if DefaultTimeoutStopSec is set to a lower value --- ``` The bug has been fixed upstream here: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/7d9eea2bd3d4f83668c7a78754d201b22 Marc was kind enough to package the patch for 20.04 so I could test it (https://launchpad.net/~mdeslaur/+archive/ubuntu/testing/+sourcepub/13210617/+listing- archive-extra) and with that package, I can confirm that it indeed fixes the issue. Here's a few github issues I stumbled upon while trying to debug this, along with a short writeup of the workaround I ended up using: - https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/41831 - https://github.com/k3s-io/k3s/issues/2400 - https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/16991 - https://raby.sh/debugging-90s-hangs-during-shutdown-on-ubuntu-2004.html Of course, it would be much better if all the processes would properly handle `SIGTERM`, but having a way to enforce a maximum wait time at shutdown is a decent workaround. Given that the patch is relatively simple, would it be possible to add it the package for 20.04? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1964642] Re: Packer virtualbox ssh can't connect to unattended Ubuntu 20.04.1/2/3/4 but can connect to Ubuntu 20.4
sergiojd: The problem I have reported happens using Packer to create VirtualBox .ova images of Ubuntu Server guests. As I have said, everything works OK using the Ubuntu Server 20.04 iso (released in 2020.04), but fails with the 20.04.1, 20.04.2, 20.04.3 or 20.04.4 isos. I would say that something has changed in Ubuntu after 20.04. seth: During the creation of the VM, Packer uses a NAT network, so I would say I can not ping the machine. The VM is created OK, I can login into the machine, but as Packer can not connect with SSH, the VM is destroyed some minutes later when Packer cancels the build. Virtualbox defines port forwarding (127.0.0.1:) and I have tried to connect the guest using WinSCP or Putty, but both can't connect neither. I send attached the log file created by VirtualBox. ** Attachment added: "packer-1-2-ubuntu-20-04-4-server-2022-03-16-10-16-50.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1964642/+attachment/5569531/+files/packer-1-2-ubuntu-20-04-4-server-2022-03-16-10-16-50.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964642 Title: Packer virtualbox ssh can't connect to unattended Ubuntu 20.04.1/2/3/4 but can connect to Ubuntu 20.4 Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Two years ago I was able to create a Virtualbox Ubuntu 20.04 guest in a Windows 10 host with Packer 1.5.6, using an unattended installation. I have tried with the last version of Packer, Packer 1.8.0, and the result is the same. I can create a Ubuntu Server 20.4 image but not a Ubuntu Server 20.4.1, .2, .3 or .4 image. I can provide as much aditional information as you want. If llvmpipe is working, that's just because it avoids using the GPU. It's a slow workaround. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1960403] Re: Kubuntu constantly freezing on ThinkPad T510
It sounds like the main problem is still Mesa. The i7-640M is a "Gen5" Intel GPU apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_graphics_processing_units#Gen5 That means Mesa should select the "i965" Mesa driver for it: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_dri.so Make sure your build of Mesa provides that file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960403 Title: Kubuntu constantly freezing on ThinkPad T510 Status in kwin package in Ubuntu: New Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: New Status in meta-kde package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This happens either during SDDM, or on the desktop, but Kubuntu's constantly freezing up.
