This issue affects only to Arm64/Aarch64 all the tools statically or dynamically linked with this version of the library are affected (Libcurl4, Curl, Wget, OpenJDK, Curl-PHP, etc). Environment and platform Linux 5.4.0-89-generic #100-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 24 14:29:20 UTC 2021 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux Steps to reproduce -- 1. Run: curl -v https://graph.facebook.com/v12.0/act_111/ or wget https://graph.facebook.com/v12.0/act_111/ Result received --- Segmentation fault (core dumped) Notes - This bug was found by the Curl users: See: https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/8024 I believe that this bug is related to https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2020-1967 that maybe used as a vector point for code injection. Actually there isn't any replacement for OpenSSL 1.1.1f for Focal (Arm64), so it makes difficult to use Ubuntu 20.04 in a production environment. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1964642] Re: Packer virtualbox ssh can't connect to unattended Ubuntu 20.04.1/2/3/4 but can connect to Ubuntu 20.4
Thank you for your help, paride. Now, answering your questions: Yes, I am using last versions of Packer (1.8.0) and VirtualBox (6.1.32). Host is Windows 10. Ubuntu 20.04 works, but .1, .2, .3 and .4 update releases don't. By the way, the situation is worse in jammy daily builds because I can not even begin the unattended instalation (I have opened a question about this problem in Ubuntu forums https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2472899). ens33 is in user-data file just because I copied a working example of autoinstall file. I can ssh login from the machine to itself. I have made some screenshots showing the output of commands you asked me for. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964642 Title: Packer virtualbox ssh can't connect to unattended Ubuntu 20.04.1/2/3/4 but can connect to Ubuntu 20.4 Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Two years ago I was able to create a Virtualbox Ubuntu 20.04 guest in a Windows 10 host with Packer 1.5.6, using an unattended installation. I have tried with the last version of Packer, Packer 1.8.0, and the result is the same. I can create a Ubuntu Server 20.4 image but not a Ubuntu Server 20.4.1, .2, .3 or .4 image. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1955997] Re: The airplane hotkey has no function on a HP platform
Hi Robie and Lukas, From our understanding, the concern is only related to Jammy, not focal. Is that OK to change to fix released on focal. This is one of the blocking issue for Stella Magneta platform. We need your help to comment on this. Thank you. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1955997 Title: The airplane hotkey has no function on a HP platform Status in OEM Priority Project: Triaged Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd source package in Focal: In Progress Status in systemd source package in Impish: In Progress Status in systemd source package in Jammy: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] The airplane hokey doesn't work on HP new generation machines. [Test Plan] Press airplane hokey. Before the patch, nothing happens. After the patch, the rfkill works as expected. In some old HP platforms (contains Intel-HID and HPQ6001 in same machine), the user will aware the airplane mode toggled very quickly e.g. turn-on and turn-off immediately (or works good without problem, depends on how DM handles multiple rfkill events). In this case, you could check: 1. sudo evtest # You probably could see # ... # /dev/input/event8: Intel HID events # ... # /dev/input/event11: Wireless hotkeys # or "HP Wireless hotkeys" depends on your kernel version 2. try to listen these events when pressing airplane key, you will probably see these two events will send the keycode out. 3. check the components own this event $ sudo udevadm info -a /dev/input/event11 # ... # ATTRS{phys}=="hpq6001/input0" $ sudo udevadm info -a /dev/input/event8 # ... #DRIVERS=="intel-hid" 4. check your hwdb is affect. $ grep -rn "Intel HID" /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb # If you didn't see anything then it means your intel-hid is unmask. 5. You could report a bug to your DM for dealing with two rfkill events (same as g-s-d[3]). Before your DM solves this issue, you could mask intel-hid as workaround (but it will be overwritten in next upgrade) by adding: ``` evdev:name:Intel HID events:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnHP*:pn*:pvr* ``` to /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb then $ systemd-hwdb update $ udevadm trigger [Where problems could occur] In non-gnome ubuntu, if the specific dmi contains HPQ6001, then airplane will not work but HP confirmed the new HP generation won't contain the HPQ6001 and also each DM still need to deal with multi-rfkill events because upstream changes[2]. --- In the last year, HP mentions HP machines need to use hp-wireless (HPQ6001) as the rfkill source[1]. However, HP confirms the HPQ6001 has been retired in the platforms since 2022. In the platforms after 2022, there are two sources of rkfill events (intel-hid, atkbd) and HP only guarantee the intel-hid works. Therefore, the upstream already accept the patch[2] to unmask intel-hid and mention this big change in the NEWS. This change makes the pre-2022 HP platforms meet the regression since they have two rfkill events (HPQ6001 and intel-hid) be triggered if pressing function key. Thus, there is a patch[3] to make sure the GNOME could deal with this case smoothly. However, the systemd change will still cause other DEs meet the regression (xfce, KDE, lxde, etc..). Backport systemd change to make HP 2022 platforms work is not the best choice on stable version (focal in this case). We still need a solution to make airplane key works on 2022 HP platforms (intel-hid and atkbd only). The potential solution from my mind that is to maintain a whitelist to unmask intel-hid in ubuntu-patch in focal, something like: ``` evdev:name:Intel HID events:dmi:bvn*:bvr*:bd*:svnHP*:pnHPZBookFury16inchG9*:* KEYBOARD_KEY_8=wlan # Use hp-wireless instead ``` after "KEYBOARD_KEY_8=unkown". For posterity, here is an example of the relevant part of the client trace output when the bug is active, i.e. data is sent with the ClientRequest: $ grep -B1 -A4 CertificateRequest s_client.log Inner Content Type = Handshake (22) CertificateRequest, Length=1570 request_context (len=0): extensions, length = 1567 extension_type=status_request(5), length=1521 - 01 00 05 ed 30 82 05 e9-0a 01 00 a0 82 05 e2 0.. This issue was fixed in openssl-1.1.1d and is included in Focal onward. Upstream issue is tracked at https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/9767 Upstream patch review at https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/9780 The issue leads to various client failures with TLS 1.3 as described in, e.g. https://github.com/golang/go/issues/35722 https://github.com/golang/go/issues/34040 [Test Plan] The issue can be reproduced by building with `enable-ssl-trace` and then running `s_server` like this: ``` openssl s_server -key key.pem -cert cert.pem -status_file test/recipes/ocsp-response.der -Verify 5 ``` And running `s_client` like this: ``` openssl s_client -status -trace -cert cert.pem -key key.pem ``` The output shows a `status_request` extension in the `CertificateRequest` as follows: Received Record Header: Version = TLS 1.2 (0x303) Content Type = ApplicationData (23) Length = 1591 Inner Content Type = Handshake (22) CertificateRequest, Length=1570 request_context (len=0): extensions, length = 1567 extension_type=status_request(5), length=1521 - 01 00 05 ed 30 82 05 e9-0a 01 00 a0 82 05 e2 0.. 000f - 30 82 05 de 06 09 2b 06-01 05 05 07 30 01 01 0.+.0.. 001e - 04 82 05 cf 30 82 05 cb-30 82 01 1a a1 81 86 0...0.. 002d - 30 81 83 31 0b 30 09 06-03 55 04 06 13 02 47 0..1.0...UG ...more lines omitted... If the `status_request` extension is present in a `CertificateRequest` then it must be empty according to RFC8446, Sec. 4.4.2.1. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965076] Re: rsync --update incorrectly reports file "is newer" than itself
I see your point; my suggestion here is to file a bug upstream with your findings: https://github.com/WayneD/rsync/issues I don't think this should be tackled on the Ubuntu side, especially given that the issue is really minor and unlikely to affect a significant amount of users. As you say what changed is a double- verbosity info message with no promise of stability, the actual behavior of rsync is correct. If you file a bug upstream please mention it here, we'll track it and once fixed we'll consider applying the fix to the supported Ubuntu releases. Thanks! ** Changed in: rsync (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: rsync (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965076 Title: rsync --update incorrectly reports file "is newer" than itself Status in rsync package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: rsync 3.2.3 has a broken "--update" option.See the examples below. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965076] Re: rsync --update incorrectly reports file "is newer" than itself
I am not arguing about the behaviour, which is correct and apparently hasn't changed. I'm complaining about the unannounced change in message from "is uptodate" to "is newer". Three problems: 1. The message "is newer" is an unannounced change from all previous versions of rsync that say "is uptodate". My scripts that look for "is newer" are all broken, because now every file is flagged as newer, even when the file is not newer. 2. I expect that a name flagged as "is newer" will be transferred when I remove the --update option, and that does not happen because the file is *NOT* newer; the message is wrong and no transfer happens. 3. The message changes with and without the --update option. If rsync says "is uptodate" without the --update option, why does that change to "is newer" when you add the option? Either the file is newer *OR* it is uptodate; it can't be both. Adding the --update option should not change "is uptodate" to "is newer". It is not newer; don't say it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965076 Title: rsync --update incorrectly reports file "is newer" than itself Status in rsync package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: rsync 3.2.3 has a broken "--update" option.See the examples below. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1947099] Re: ipconfig does not honour user-requested timeouts in some cases
Thank you for the detailed explanation Fabio, the impact of the bug is now much better understood. Can I ask for an update of the Impact field in the SRU description above? In a summary, but also getting into a bit more details about how this differs from focal+ etc. One thing I worry about in this SRU is basically what has been mentioned by Ben Hutchings as a follow up to the patch forwarded upstream: https://lists.zytor.com/archives/klibc/2021-December/004635.html I worry that since this issue in ipconfig has been around for *so long* that people could have actually started depending on the behavior being as-is. I don't think klibc's ipconfig is too widely used (as klibc-utils only has like 2 reverse-dependencies), but it's still something to consider. I think I'm not generally against this SRU. Similar to Robie I would like some regression potential analysis done and included in the [Where problems could occur] section - one of them being what I mentioned above. Can you think of any other issues this change could cause? In integration or in different parts of the code? Can we mitigate this somehow by performing some additional testing? If you could modify the two sections of the SRU description, I'd be ready to accept this into bionic-proposed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to klibc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1947099 Title: ipconfig does not honour user-requested timeouts in some cases Status in klibc package in Ubuntu: New Status in klibc source package in Bionic: Incomplete Bug description: [Impact] In some cases, ipconfig can take a longer time than the user-specified timeouts, causing unexpected delays. [Test Plan] Any situation where ipconfig encounters an error sending the DHCP packet, it will automatically set a delay of 10 seconds, which could be longer than the user-specified timeout. It can be reproduced by creating a dummy interface and attempting to run ipconfig on it with a timeout value of less than 10: # ip link add eth1 type dummy # date; /usr/lib/klibc/bin/ipconfig -t 2 eth1; date Thu Nov 18 04:46:13 EST 2021 IP-Config: eth1 hardware address ae:e0:f5:9d:7e:00 mtu 1500 DHCP RARP IP-Config: no response after 2 secs - giving up Thu Nov 18 04:46:23 EST 2021 ^ Notice above, ipconfig thinks that it waited 2 seconds, but the timestamps show an actual delay of 10 seconds. [Where problems could occur] Please see reproduction steps above. We are seeing this in production too (see comment #2). [Other Info] A patch to fix the issue is being proposed here. It is a safe fix - it only checks before going into sleep that the timeout never exceeds the user-requested value. [Original Description] In some cases, ipconfig can take longer than the user-specified timeouts, causing unexpected delays. in main.c, in function loop(), the process can go into process_timeout_event() (or process_receive_event() ) and if it encounters an error situation, will set an attempt to "try again later" at time equal now + 10 seconds by setting s->expire = now + 10; This can happen at any time during the main event loop, which can end up extending the user-specified timeout if "now + 10" is greater than "start_time + user-specified-timeout". I believe a patch like the following is needed to avoid this problem: --- a/usr/kinit/ipconfig/main.c +++ b/usr/kinit/ipconfig/main.c @@ -437,6 +437,13 @@ static int loop(void) if (timeout > s->expire - now.tv_sec) timeout = s->expire - now.tv_sec; + + /* Compensate for already-lost time */ + gettimeofday(, NULL); + if (now.tv_sec + timeout > start + loop_timeout) { + timeout = loop_timeout - (now.tv_sec - start); + printf("Lowered timeout to match user request = (%d s) \n", timeout); + } } I believe the current behaviour is buggy. This is confirmed when the following line is executed: if (loop_timeout >= 0 && now.tv_sec - start >= loop_timeout) { printf("IP-Config: no response after %d " "secs - giving up\n", loop_timeout); rc = -1; goto bail; } 'loop_timeout' is the user-specified time-out. With a value of 2, in case of error, this line prints: IP-Config: no response after 2 secs - giving up So it thinks that it waited 2 seconds - however, in reality it had actually waited for 10 seconds. The suggested code-change ensures that the timeout that is actually used never exceeds the user-specified
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1965076] Re: rsync --update incorrectly reports file "is newer" than itself
Hello Ian and thanks for this bug report. My question here is: is this actually a bug? The manpage for --update says: This forces rsync to skip any files which exist on the destination and have a modified time that is newer It seems sensible to me to make this a '>=' comparison, and not a strict '>' comparison: when considering modification times there's no need to update a file which has the same timestamp of the source file. In other words: I fail to see the problem here. Could you please elaborate a bit more? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1964642] Re: Packer virtualbox ssh can't connect to unattended Ubuntu 20.04.1/2/3/4 but can connect to Ubuntu 20.4
Hello Barto, If I understand it correctly you can create working images using 20.04 ISOs *right now*, but with the exact same tooling images created with 20.04.x ISOs do not work. I think you have been clear about this, but it is of course very important to know that the only moving part is the ISO image. Given that you have console access to the machine, at least for a few minutes before Virtualbox tears it down, can you please share the output of the following commands? - ip addr - systemctl status - systemctl status ssh My wild guess here is that for some reason the 20.04.x images get a different Ethernet interface name (you hardcoded ens33 in cloud-config). Also: can you login from the machine to itself (ssh mclibre@127.0.0.1)? Also: can you share the contents of /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf and /etc/netplan/00-installer-config.yaml? Thank you. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964642 Title: Packer virtualbox ssh can't connect to unattended Ubuntu 20.04.1/2/3/4 but can connect to Ubuntu 20.4 Status in openssh package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Two years ago I was able to create a Virtualbox Ubuntu 20.04 guest in a Windows 10 host with Packer 1.5.6, using an unattended installation. This is far from optimal, since normally (on desktop and server installations) this is not necessary. * This make it hard to provide consistent documentation on microk8s across all supported device, if we have to take the "sudo" command into account, and how file permissions for generated files might be affected. [Test Plan] The issue can be reproduced on Ubuntu Core 18, 20 and 22. The steps are as following (replace "" with the actual path of your Ubuntu Core image file: qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -smp 2 -m 1500 \ -netdev user,id=mynet0,hostfwd=tcp::8022-:22,hostfwd=tcp::8090-:80 \ -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=mynet0 \ -drive file=,format=raw After configuring your account, connect to youd device via SSH: ssh @localhost -p 8022 And issue these commands sudo snap install microk8s --channel=latest/edge/stable # microk8s is going to eat up all your disk space, so stop it as soon # as the prompt comes back: sudo microk8s stop # Add your user to the microk8s group sudo usermod -G snap_microk8s $(whoami) The last command will fail unless this bug is fixed. If the bug is fixed, the command will succeed, and after logging out and in again, you can verify that you've been added to the snap_microk8s group by running the "groups" command. [Where problems could occur] * The patch only touches error code paths and adds a fallback mechanism in them. Therefore, "normal" operations, where these commands would have succeeded before, will not be affected at all. * In those cases when usermod fails because it failed to find or load the requested user/group, we reset the user/group database paths to our writable user/group databases, and retry the operation. Note that the path for our database is hardcoded in the program source, so the security risk seems contained. We do not add additional command-line parameters. [Other Info] Original bug description Currently doing something like: sudo usermod -a -G snap_microk8s dbeamonte on a Ubuntu Core system will fail with usermod: /etc/group.15965: Read-only file system This is because the existing usermod patches to detect the extrausers file do not cover this case. Attached a simple patch that enables it. I will give this patch a test run in our image PPA for jammy and if things look good I would like upload to 22.04 and SRU for 20.04 and 18.04. @seth arnold THanks for the link, quite interesting. Unfortunately perusing it, I found that this particular change ticks almost all the wrong boxes - especially the 'do not touch really important software' (aka critical infrastructure packages). Also trying to find a contact is not obvious, there is a ref (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Reviewing_procedure_and_tools) to a ubuntu-bugs channel on freenode that don't seem to exist anymore. Provided examples are almost 15 years old. The exact same statements work in the main server config file (/etc/ssh/sshd_config) this is to track upstream bug 3122: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3122 it's fixed but will only be in 8.4 so it affects Ubuntu 20.04 LTS where openssh is at 8.2. I'm not *absolutely* whining for a backport since include files is a new feature for openssl in focal so it's not a regression. I had edited the .service file but it was deleted when I reinstalled the ubuntu packages :-) The new log is attached. ** Attachment added: "wpa_supplicant.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1962541/+attachment/5569942/+files/wpa_supplicant.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962541 Title: PEAP wifi can't connect (ubuntu live/installer is also not working Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: WPA2 enterprise can't connect PEAP ubuntu 22.04 live/installer is not working too ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: ubuntu-release-upgrader-core 1:22.04.6 Uname: Linux 5.16.0-kali1-amd64 x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu78 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CrashDB: ubuntu CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Mar 1 09:18:42 2022 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: ubuntu-release-upgrader Symptom: dist-upgrade UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) VarLogDistupgradeTermlog: mtime.conffile..etc.update-manager.release-upgrades: 2022-02-27T21:07:16.553410 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1962541/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1959375] Re: [SRU] Please support group manipulation with "extrausers"
This bug was fixed in the package shadow - 1:4.8.1-2ubuntu2 --- shadow (1:4.8.1-2ubuntu2) jammy; urgency=medium [ Michael Vogt ] * debian/patches/1010_extrausers.patch: Add automatic detection of "extrausers" for usermod -G (LP: #1959375) -- Alberto Mardegan Mon, 14 Mar 2022 11:59:13 +0300 ** Changed in: shadow (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to shadow in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1959375 Title: [SRU] Please support group manipulation with "extrausers" Status in shadow package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in shadow source package in Bionic: New Status in shadow source package in Focal: New Status in shadow source package in Impish: Won't Fix Status in shadow source package in Jammy: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] * In order to use the microk8s snap in Ubuntu Core, one currently needs to be root. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1965219] Re: gnome lock screen does not permit reentering password
Thanks for the bug report. Please open the 'Extensions' app and ensure no more than the three built-in Ubuntu extensions are enabled. If any others are listed then please disable/uninstall them and log in again. Also next time the problem happens, after rebooting please run: journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt and attach the resulting text file here. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => gnome-shell (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965219 Title: gnome lock screen does not permit reentering password Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Initially, only the mouse works in the gnome lock screen, without any way to get a password prompt. It's likely only happening when returning from suspend with lid open. It's possible to ssh into the machine or to press Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F?? and login without gnome. After this, Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F1 brings up a purple ubuntu login screen, but then after login you simply return to the lock screen with no working keyboard. I never found any method to force unlock from ssh or another vt though, so this always still required a reboot, or killing all of gnome. I've randomly tried some solutions from https://askubuntu.com/questions/1242110/after-upgrading-to- ubuntu-20-04-lockscreen-not-working including reinstalling many gnome components. After this, the behavior initially disappeared by returning from suspend merely took a long time, like 30 seconds or 1 minute. It's possible the delay stems from memory size, but a previous identical lenovo x1 had no such problems. I've now a worse problem just a few hours later where unsuspend went directly to a purple ubuntu login screen, but neither the mouse nor keyboard worked. I've not yet been able to test ssh on this problem. It's possibly all connected to recent firmware upgrades, so I'm happy to try downgrading the firmware, but I've not found any instructions on doing so, or even identifying the firmware upgrade log.
