Title:
  [amdgpu] Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  After the Ubuntu distro upgrade (upgrade from LTS 20.04 to LTS 22.04,
  running KDE) I started experiencing a problem with external screen
  resolution after the wake up from sleep. The monitor resolution is
  small (1280x768) and doesn't respect the setting prior the sleep
  (1920x1200).

  After the wake up from sleep:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1280x768  59.94*
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  There is an error when trying to change the setting to the highest
  resolution supported by the monitor (which is not included in the
  above list).

  ```
  > xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
  xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200
  ```

  After the turn off and turn on of the external monitor, the resolution
  is somehow added to the xrandr list:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1920x1200 59.95 +
 # a list of resolutions
 1280x768  59.94*
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  Now it is possible to change the resolution:

  ```
  > xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
  # no output, the resolution was successfully changed
  ```

  After the change, the resolution is successfully changed and xrandr
  gives proper output:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1920x1200 59.95*+
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  The problem is not present on fresh start. However, it is consistently
  present after the wake up from sleep.

  What can cause the problem and how may I fix it?

  Running AMD based laptop (Ryzen 7 3700U with integrated graphics), the
  external monitor is connected via USB-C. There are no problems with
  laptop screen resolution, only external monitor is affected.

Bug description:
  My Motherboard is MSI X570S and output audio works fine but:

  - Motherboard microphone plug is not work.
  - Frontal microphone plug is not work.
  - When change output from gnome settings to hdmi audio does not work, the
audio continues to play in the plug and not in the monitor.
  - When I change the input or output from digital to analog or sinput it does
not change at all.
  - The strangest thing is that the microphone input captures the audio that is
heard in the system as if it were the output, audacious records the audio from
the desktop when it tries to monitor the microphone.
  - When plugging or unplugging the microphone, the system detects this change
and tries to change the audio input automatically, but it does not capture the
microphone and the desktop continues to be heard.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978999] [NEW] pipewire-media-session needs to be updated before wireplumber is installed

2022-06-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I am filing this temporary bug split off from LP: #1977564 to allow
wireplumber and pipewire-media-session to migrate first.

There is an issue with people upgrading to Ubuntu 22.10 since pipewire-
media-session will need be updated before it's attempted to install
wireplumber.

I think the simplest fix is to backport the fix to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
which is before the metapackage changes in Ubuntu 22.10.

  wireplumber is apparently too forceful in how it enables PipeWire.
  Both Arch Linux and Debian had to

  Is it necessary for wireplumber to conflict with pipewire-media-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978942] Re: Sound problem. The sound is a few minutes away. A buzzer signal then appears. The image is also bad.

2022-06-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978980] Re: Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

Title:
  Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1280x768  59.94*
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  There is an error when trying to change the setting to the highest
  resolution supported by the monitor (which is not included in the
  above list).

  ```
  > xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
  xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200
  ```

  After the turn off and turn on of the external monitor, the resolution
  is somehow added to the xrandr list:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1920x1200 59.95 +
 # a list of resolutions
 1280x768  59.94*
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  Now it is possible to change the resolution:

  ```
  > xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
  # no output, the resolution was successfully changed
  ```

  After the change, the resolution is successfully changed and xrandr
  gives proper output:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1920x1200 59.95*+
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978980] [NEW] Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

2022-06-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After the Ubuntu distro upgrade (upgrade from LTS 20.04 to LTS 22.04,
running KDE) I started experiencing a problem with external screen
resolution after the wake up from sleep. The monitor resolution is small
(1280x768) and doesn't respect the setting prior the sleep (1920x1200).

After the wake up from sleep:

```
> xrandr
HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis
y axis) 535mm x 339mm
   1280x768  59.94*
   # a list of lower resolutions
```

There is an error when trying to change the setting to the highest
resolution supported by the monitor (which is not included in the above
list).

```
> xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200
```

After the turn off and turn on of the external monitor, the resolution
is somehow added to the xrandr list:

```
> xrandr
HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis
y axis) 535mm x 339mm
   1920x1200 59.95 +
   # a list of resolutions
   1280x768  59.94*
   # a list of lower resolutions
```

Now it is possible to change the resolution:

```
> xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
# no output, the resolution was successfully changed
```

After the change, the resolution is successfully changed and xrandr
gives proper output:

```
> xrandr
HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
   1920x1200 59.95*+
   # a list of lower resolutions
```

The problem is not present on fresh start. However, it is consistently
present after the wake up from sleep.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1977564] Re: wireplumber conflicts with pipewire-media-session & needs fixing

2022-06-16 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Dylan, thank you very much for your patch. I'm going to go ahead and
upload pipewire-media-session and wireplumber to Ubuntu 22.10 now.
Please see the attached patch also to apply on top of your patch.

After this issue is fixed in Debian, I need to backport the fix to
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS since some people will attempt to switch to and away
from pipewire there.

** Patch added: "pipewire-media-session-debhelper-lp1977564.patch"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1977564/+attachment/5597800/+files/pipewire-media-session-debhelper-lp1977564.patch

  wireplumber is apparently too forceful in how it enables PipeWire.
  Both Arch Linux and Debian had to

  https://archlinux.org/news/undone-replacement-of-pipewire-media-
  session-with-wireplumber/

  Is it necessary for wireplumber to conflict with pipewire-media-
  session?

  Should we add Replaces?

  What files does pipewire-media-session need to clean up when it is
  removed?

  See https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-remote-
  desktop/-/commit/52799cfd for an example of how files that aren't
  technically conffiles can be removed.

  EDS generates instances for recurring events starting at midnight with
  an UNTIL date incorrectly. Specifically, using
  e_cal_client_generate_instances() or
  e_cal_recur_generate_instances_sync() generates an instance one day
  after the UNTIL date. This bug was introduced with the migration to
  libical-glib and libecal-2.0, so this affects bot focal and jammy. It
  was fixed with commit 3969303e (master) and 7fb64814 (gnome-42) which
  will be part of the 3.45.1+ and 3.44.3+ releases respectively.

Title:
  EFI pstore not cleared on boot

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Systemd has a systemd-pstore component that scans the pstore on boot
  and if non-empty, takes all previously created dumps, transfers them
  into its journal and removes the pstore elements. This is very
  important on UEFI systems, which only have a limited amount of space
  for variables.

  In Ubuntu, the kernel is configured with CONFIG_EFI_VARS_PSTORE=m
  which means the EFI pstore support gets loaded dynamically. In all of
  my boots, this dynamic module loading happened *after* systemd tried
  to check for pstore variables. So systemd-pstore never starts and
  never clears the UEFI variable store. I see this happening in AWS on
  Graviton instances, which eventually run out of space to store the
  dumps. On real hardware, this behavior may lead to unbootable systems.

  This problem affects (at least) Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04. A quick fix
  would be to configure CONFIG_EFI_VARS_PSTORE=y so that it's always
  available. A long term fix would make systemd rescan the directory
  after all module probing settled.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978871] Re: apt package missing apt-auto-removal

2022-06-16 Thread Ryan Daly
Simply stating that you no longer protect the last installed kernel and
providing a link to the details is preferred over making one feel
inadequate for reporting a perceived issue.

"apt-auto-removal" is not specifically mentioned in the changelog since
v0.9.12, and apt-file continues to indicate that "apt-auto-removal" is
provided by the "apt" package. Together, both made it seem that the
file should still be there.

Sorry for not deciphering the changelog, and thanks for your time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1974223] Re: FTBFS and autopkgtest failure since changes in apt for automatic kernel removal

2022-06-16 Thread Olivier Gayot
Hi Robie,

Julian asked the release team to drop the change from focal-proposed because it
would fail on production autopkgtest (although the upload did fix the FTBFS).
It requires further investigation for focal (I'm trying to free up some time to
work on it).

I'd like Julian to confirm but my gut feeling is that it can stay in
-proposed for bionic and be uploaded to -updates when another fix must
be delivered. I'm not too familiar with this process myself.

For focal, it's a bit different because unattended-upgrades blocks
another SRU: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/+source/unattended-
upgrades/+bug/1747499

I will try to do what's necessary ASAP.

Thanks,
Olivier

  2. bionic:
* run autopkgtest against -proposed:
  $ autopkgtest unattended-upgrades --apt-upgrade --apt-pocket=proposed

  [Where problems could occur]
* The fix only affects the test-suite (that runs both at build time &
autopkgtest time) so the impact should be minimal. Something wrong in the patch
would make the unattended package FTBFS or fail autopkgtest but it is already
failing ATM.
* The new tests dependency on apt can trigger more autopkgtest runs. Since
unattended-upgrades has a non-trivial autopkgtest suite, this can have a slight
impact on the queues.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978816] Re: sshd: ClientAliveCountMax=0 not honoured as expected

2022-06-16 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello James and thanks for your bug report. The "Make
ClientAliveCountMax=0 have sensible semantics" change you refer to is
actually an upstream change, see the OpenSSH bugfixes here:

  https://www.openssh.com/releasenotes.html

the upstream bug being:

  https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2627

which has a comment similar to yours here.

Even if the new behavior may be sometimes inconvenient I don't think
we're going to make Ubuntu deviate from what upstream does (for reasons
you clearly understand). As an Ubuntu bug I think this is Invalid, but
I'm marking it as Incomplete for now. Please comment back if there's
anything I missed or misunderstood, or mark this report as Invalid if
you agree with my findings. Thanks!

** Bug watch added: OpenSSH Portable Bugzilla #2627

  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description:Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS

  After upgrading from 'bionic' the openssh ClientAlive* parameters are
  not functioning as expected in sshd:

  /etc/ssh/sshd_config:ClientAliveInterval 900
  /etc/ssh/sshd_config:ClientAliveCountMax 0

  The expected behaviour is that after 900s with no traffic in the
  session the server terminates the connection. There appears to be a
  custom patch in the package which changes this:

  - sshd(8): Make ClientAliveCountMax=0 have sensible semantics: it will
now disable connection killing entirely rather than the current
behaviour of instantly killing the connection after the first liveness
test regardless of success.

  It is unclear why this is a beneficial change in the default behaviour
  of sshd. If the user doesn't want the session disconnected then they
  should set ClientAliveInterval=0. It also defeats our requirement to
  have idle ssh sessions terminated when nothing has been done for 15
  minutes.

  It is tempting to mark this as a security issue due to unexpected
  change in behaviour and the fact it would leave idle sessions open
  whereas a vanilla ssh package would close them.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1978943] [NEW] tc qdisc cake fails on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2022-06-16 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with latest lowlatency kernel. In practice
I've installed package linux-lowlatency-hwe-18.04-edge which has
resulted packages linux-image-5.4.0-117-lowlatency and linux-
modules-5.4.0-117-lowlatency to be installed right now.

$ dpkg -L linux-modules-5.4.0-117-lowlatency | grep cake
/lib/modules/5.4.0-117-lowlatency/kernel/net/sched/sch_cake.ko

$ sudo modprobe sch_cake
# completes successfully

$ sudo tc qdisc add dev enp3s0 root cake bandwidth 101Mbit ethernet rtt 20ms
Unknown qdisc "cake", hence option "bandwidth" is unparsable

It appears that iproute2 cannot correctly support this kernel. Similar
thing works just fine with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (tested with generic kernel

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1961427] Re: zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on z15

2022-06-16 Thread Frank Heimes
You are right, these are 'just' fixes w/o ABI changes and I am not aware
(couldn't find) of any cases of static linkages - I apologize.
So fortunately the complexity of this will be far less.

  [Impact]

  * zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on IBM z15
  hardware.

  * Passing the result of compressBound() to compress() results
    in an error code.

  * This is because compressBound() is not adjusted for DFLTCC.

  [Fix]

  * Adjust compressBound() for DFLTCC like it's already done
    for deflateBound().

  * Since zlib project does not accept patches at the moment,
    the fix has been integrated into the DFLTCC pull request:
    https://github.com/madler/zlib/pull/410
    The commitid is b25781e735363e04f6c56e21431c47e4afc50b17.

  * The fix extracted out of the above is:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/589857296/debdiff_zlib_1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu7_to_zlib_1.2.11.dfsg-2ubuntu8_jammy.diff

  * On top of this actual zlib fix, there is another patch needed:
   'Remove compressBound assertions. (PR #1258)' for htslib.

  * But there is a standalone 'htslib' package version, as well as a
htslib version included in (some) 'bedtools' packages.
Both need to be patched (see '[Other]' for more details).

  [Test Plan]

  * An IBM z15 system (LPAR, z/VM guest or KVM virtual machine)
    with Ubuntu Server 21.10 (or 22.04).

  * A test can be done based on the following C test program:
    #include
    #include
    #include
    int main() {
    Bytef in_buf[128], out_buf[1024];
    for (size_t i = 0; i < sizeof(in_buf); i++)
    in_buf[i] = rand();
    uLongf dest_len = compressBound(sizeof(in_buf));
    assert(dest_len <= sizeof(out_buf));
    int ret = compress(out_buf, _len,
   in_buf, sizeof(in_buf));
    assert(ret == Z_OK);
    }

  * The test needs to be done by IBM, due to the requirements
    for the special z15 hardware.

  * A successful test was just completed, based on the version in jammy-
  proposed, which is at the same code level that the impish version this
  SRU is targeted for.

  [Where problems could occur]

  * If the adjustment of compressBound() for DFLTCC is done
    erroneously the issue can still be present or in worst case
    even affect Z systems other than z15 only.

  * The compression can become errorneous with the new changes,
    e.g. in compressBound.

  * Mistakes in dfltcc_free_window OF and especially DEFLATE_BOUND_COMPLEN,
    (incl. the bit definitions), may cause various and unforseen defects.

  * Any build time issues that might have been introduced by this patch
    can be identified by a test build; this was done and is available here:
    https://launchpad.net/~fheimes/+archive/ubuntu/lp1961427

  [Other Info]

  * Ubuntu jammy, impish and focal are affected by the zlib issue.

  * The 'htslib' version '1.13+ds' (as it is part of I, J and K),
already includes the patch,
hence only htslib '1.10.2' in focal needs to be patched.

  * The bedtools version '2.30.0+dfsg' (as it is part of I, J and K),
requires the patch,
but version '2.27.1+dfsg' bedtools in focal does not incl. an
embedded htslib, hence does not need to be (actually can't be)
patched.

  * Patched version of the affected htslib and bedtools packages
are build and also available at this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~fheimes/+archive/ubuntu/lp1961427

I'm just watching from the sidelines here, but why do we need to have
a transition for this? Is there an ABI break I'm not aware of? Or is zlib
usually statically linked in Debian packages?

    https://launchpad.net/~fheimes/+archive/ubuntu/lp1961427

  Description: zlib: compressBound() returns an incorrect result on z15
  Symptom: Passing the result of compressBound() to compress()
     results in an error code.
  Problem: compressBound() is not adjusted for DFLTCC.
  Solution: Adjust compressBound() for DFLTCC like it's already done
     for deflateBound(). Since zlib project does not accept
     patches at the moment, the fix has been integrated into
     the DFLTCC pull request:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Dell introduces new function called Dell Privacy, it utilizes
  hardware mute to control audio and camera. The commit map the reported
  key event to mic mute for making userspace can work as before, "Mic
  Mute" dialog pop-up while the mic mute button is pressed.

  [Test Plan]

   * Use a Dell machine, which has Dell privacy function, and press mic mute
key.
 GUI will pop up "Mic Mute" icon.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This change adds key event mapping in hwdb, which won't impact
  other hardware.

   any regression would likely cause problems with key(s) from the
  specific dell kb matching the modified listing in the hw db.

  [Other Info]

   * This change has been verified on Dell machine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1969901] Re: network-manager fails to renew ipv6 address

2022-06-16 Thread Håkan Kvist
Proposal for test plan:

Setup of environment
1. Install two identical computers (A,B) with Ubuntu 18.04 with the same
configuration
2. On computer B installed the patched version of network manager
3. Try to make the network conditions the same on both computers by connecting
the computers two the same switch. This makes sure they are connected to the
same subnet/dhcp-server.

Tests steps (the same on both computers). Execute 5 days.
1. check network state (ipv4/ipv6)
2. if ipv6 does not come up
2.a stop network manager
sudo service network-manager stop
2.b delete lease files
sudo rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/dhclient6*
2.c restart network manager
sudo service network-manager start
3. save network manager log to file for later reference:
   journalctl -u NetworkManager.service
4. disconnect network cable
5. shutdown computer
6. wait at least 12 hours (maximum lease time in current dhcp setup) to make
lease expire
7. start computer
8. GOTO 1

Expected outcome:
Computer A should sometime fail in getting an IPv6 address
Computer B should always succeed in getting an IPv6 address

Title:
  network-manager fails to renew ipv6 address

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Bionic:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * This affects Ubuntu 18.04 where Network Manager version 1.10.6 is
  used.

   * Network manager might kill dhclient(6) and fail to start it again
     causing the IPv6 address to be lost on a network that uses mixed
     IPv4/IPV6.
     The network status will still be seen as online in gnome since ipv4
     is still active.
     The user then have to manually remove the dhcpv6 lease files and
     restart ipv6 connection/restart network manager to regain IPv6
     connectivity.

   * This is a cherry-pick from Network manager 1.10.8 (Ubuntu's version
     is based on 1.10.6):

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/commit/7fbbe7ebee99785e38d39c37e515a64a28edef0f

   * Upstream bug:
     https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=783391

  [Test Plan]

   * The exact conditions for reproducing this bug on mixed IPv4/IPv6
     networks are not known but includes using both IPv4 and IPv6,
     both using dhcp.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * The change is in the dchp lease expiration handling so verify that
  there is no regression in dhcp renewals on different type of
  configuration include IPv6

  [Other Info]
   * We have tested this patch on a couple of clients where we have seen this
     this problem. If this patch is feasible to include in Ubuntu 18.04 we
     could request more users to test.

  ```
  $ systemctl status systemd-pstore
  ```

  This problem affects (at least) Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04. A quick fix
  would be to configure CONFIG_EFI_VARS_PSTORE=y so that it's always
  available. A long term fix would make systemd rescan the directory
  after all module probing settled.
