[Touch-packages] [Bug 2055455] Re: dnsmasq-base causes network device virbr0 to shut down
Thanks for taking the time to make this bug report to make Ubuntu better! I tried reproducing your failure and unfortunately am not able to in a VM/container setup. I think this may need some extra configuration to reproduce the failure. Starting with something basic, would you mind sharing these 2 files? Please remove/censor any information you do not want to share such as MAC address. /etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/default.xml /etc/dnsmasq.d-available/libvirt-daemon And any other configuration files that you think may be useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055455 Title: dnsmasq-base causes network device virbr0 to shut down Status in dnsmasq package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Installing dnsmasq-base v2.90-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 causes network device virbr0 to shut down during the boot-up process. This can in rare circumstances include private information. [Test Case] 1) Run ubuntu-bug apport 2) Observe JournalErrors attachment in the .crash file With the version of apport from -proposed JournalErrors will only be included in crash reports not regular bug reports. So follow the same test case and ensure JournalErrors is not included then run: 1) d-feet 2) pkill -11 d-feet 3) Observe JournalErrors in the d-feet .crash file [Regression Potential] Its possible my code is bad and then apport would crash when collecting journal errors. However, apport will just carry on and not include that attachment which would still be an improvement as there wouldn't be any private information included. See the bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1738564 created with ubuntu-bug. Original Description Apport includes the file JournalErrors.txt This file includes e.g. the following line. Dez 16 19:11:31 hostname /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[9679]: dbus-update-activation-environment: setting MPD_HOST=...@.xxx.org Normally it would be not problem that gdm-x-session write this to the journal, because the journal is not intended to be published on the internet. Setting confidential informations via environment is maybe not the best idea, but a legal procedure and for `mpc` the only way to set this information. IMHO the apport utility is here the problem, because it includes the file with risky information to a public visible bug report. Note: I manually delete the attachment in the mentioned bug report. [ Impact ] Currently ppa-purge fails to purge packages on distribution using the deb822 source format. Currently mantic and noble make use of this format and are affected by this issue. When running ppa-purge to remove a custom PPA, ppa-purge fails to disable the custom PPA since it cannot disable deb822 sources and leads to apt still querying the ppa when running: $ apt update In older versions of ubuntu, PPAs used the ".list" format which could be disabled by simply commenting out the "deb" line with a "#". This was the method that ppa-purge used to disable PPAs. This new patch allows ppa-purge to detect and disable deb822 source files by adding an "Enabled: no" field in each component section of the deb822 file. It also removes any line that starts with "Enabled:" to make sure the resulting file is clean. [ Test Plan ] The changes were tested on both mantic and noble in a lxc container using the oibaf mesa PPA (https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers) as the test PPA. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2055226] Re: mount option `users` blocks ntfs to mount
Both options and a third exist. Extract from man mount in section FILESYSTEM-INDEPENDENT MOUNT OPTIONS: user Allow an ordinary user to mount the filesystem. The name of the mounting user is written to the mtab file (or to the private libmount file in /run/mount on systems without a regular mtab) so that this same user can unmount the filesystem again. This option implies the options noexec, nosuid, and nodev (unless overridden by subsequent options, as in the option line user,exec,dev,suid). nouser Forbid an ordinary user to mount the filesystem. This is the default; it does not imply any other options. users Allow any user to mount and to unmount the filesystem, even when some other ordinary user mounted it. This option implies the options noexec, nosuid, and nodev (unless overridden by subsequent options, as in the option line users,exec,dev,suid). gio mount is the command line variant to simulate a mount by a GUI tool like Nautilus, just used to get the error message. gio invokes udiskctl under the hood. ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to util-linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055226 Title: mount option `users` blocks ntfs to mount Status in util-linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: /etc/fstab: # /media/Sicherung was on /dev/sda7 during installation UUID=2510AA16624BB80C /media/Sicherung ntfs defaults,users,noauto,windows_names,hide_dot_files 0 0 $ gio mount -d /dev/sda7 gio: /dev/sda7: Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sda7: Unknown error when mounting /media/Sicherung $ udisksctl mount -b /dev/sda7 Error mounting /dev/sda7: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.UDisks2.Error.Failed: Error mounting system-managed device /dev/sda7: Unknown error when mounting /media/Sicherung $ journalctl -b 0 -u udisks2.service Feb 27 23:48:51 T500 udisksd[10478]: Error opening read-only '/dev/sda7': Keine Berechtigung Feb 27 23:48:51 T500 udisksd[10478]: Failed to mount '/dev/sda7': Keine Berechtigung Feb 27 23:48:51 T500 udisksd[10478]: Please check '/dev/sda7' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions, Feb 27 23:48:51 T500 udisksd[10478]: and the mounting user ID. [Touch-packages] [Bug 2033892] Re: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled
Considerations for the SRU team: I confirmed that the behavior in Jammy is different than Focal and Mantic, the previous / next supported releases. (Steps in the next comment.) So, although this SRU changes behavior in a stable release (generally not OK in SRUs), it is actually Jammy that changed behavior _across_ stable releases (and to a buggy one!). Thus, the SRU is reasonably _restoring_ (arguably, _fixing_) the _expected_ behavior. So, this looks OK for SRU, IMHO. Additionally, I considered two points before sponsoring this. 1) The impact of the code changes to non-autofs/non-automount: And it seems virtually zero, considering the man pages explain the flag now used in statx() is used in other related syscalls (stat, lstat, fstatat), which have it implied since Linux 4.11. And it indeed only affects automount (note the flag name). So, even though this change is "new" in Jammy, it's been tested in older and later releases for a long time (pre-Bionic kernels). stat(2): AT_NO_AUTOMOUNT (since Linux 2.6.38) [...] Since Linux 4.11 this flag is implied. statx(2): AT_NO_AUTOMOUNT [...] All of stat(2), lstat(2), and fstatat(2) act as though AT_NO_AUTOMOUNT was set. 2) Whether users may have started to rely on this behavior I agree this is unlikely, and think so because of 3 points: 2.1) This behavior did not exist in previous releases, which reduces the chances it has been 'learned' before. 2.2) The usage of autofs/automount rely on access to be made _to a particular mountpoint_ in order for it to be _mounted_. This is reflected in different documentation sources online, so it is likely that this is the way that has been 'learned'. 2.3) The safe side is, _even if_ an user started to rely on this behavior to automount the subdirs, the very next thing they will do (if they actually need that subdir mounted) is to _access_ that subdir - which can mount it just as before! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to coreutils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2033892 Title: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled Status in coreutils package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in coreutils source package in Jammy: In Progress Status in coreutils package in Fedora: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Issuing a 'ls -l' or a 'stat' on an autofs share when you have set --ghost in the auto.master file, or browse_mode=yes in autofs.conf will lead to the shares being mounted, when they didn't previously. Disks / shares may not be present and the mounts may fail, leading to errors in your output. This is a behaviour change in autofs 8.32, which occurred in the transition to using statx() instead of stat()/lstat() in previous releases. Notes: - Please add test for `stat` as well (bottom of tests comment). - I just changed the DEP3 Origin tag (commit ID; backport_ed_). There doesn't seem to be any workarounds, apart from not running a 'ls -l' in your autofs share directory. [Testcase] Start two Jammy VMs. One will be a NFS server, the other, the client. NFS server: Server VM: $ sudo hostnamectl set-hostname jammy-nfs-server $ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y $ sudo apt install nfs-kernel-server $ sudo mkdir /export $ sudo mkdir /export/users $ sudo vi /etc/exports # add the following lines: /export 192.168.122.0/24(rw,fsid=0,no_subtree_check,sync) /export/users 192.168.122.0/24(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,sync) $ sudo systemctl restart nfs-server.service AutoFS Client: $ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install autofs $ sudo vim /etc/autofs.conf browse_mode = yes $ sudo mkdir /mnt2 $ sudo vim /etc/auto.master /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect $ sudo vim /etc/auto.indirect export 192.168.122.18:/export export-missing 192.168.122.18:/export-missing $ sudo reboot $ cd /mnt2 $ ls -l ls: cannot access 'export-missing': No such file or directory total 4 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 12 21:48 export d? ? ?? ?? export-missing $ mount -l | grep /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs (rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=634,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=21561) 192.168.122.18:/export on /mnt2/export type nfs (rw,relatime,vers=3,rsize=524288,wsize=524288,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=192.168.122.18,mountvers=3,mountport=35786,mountproto=udp,local_lock=none,addr=192.168.122.18) We see the mount for export occurred, and export-missing was attempted, but it was either bogus or the disk was not present, leading to a "No such file or directory" error. There are test packages available in the following ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf378489-test If you install them, this is what should occur: $ ls -l total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 12 22:01 export drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 12 22:01 export-missing $ mount -l | grep /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs (rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=636,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=18346) No mounts happen, and no errors either. [Where problems could occur] We are changing the behaviour of core utilities, ls and stat, such that they no longer attempt to mount autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled. This is the intended behaviour in the first place, and has been this way for at least a decade prior, and was changed to return to this behaviour shortly after the release of coreutils that introduced statx() that caused automounts to occur. It is unlikely any system administrators are relying on the behaviour found in jammy in any scripts or day to day operations that would be adversely affected by the change. The worst case scenario is that a user doing an 'ls -l' on an unmounted disk finds the mount doesn't automatically occur, and they have to attach the disk and issue the mount themselves. If a regression were to occur, it would be limited to the ls and stat commands, specifically when listing directories linked to autofs mountpoints. [Other info] The automount behaviour change was introduced upstream in version 8.32, with the introduction of the statx() call. This means only Jammy is affected. It was quickly reverted back to how it was originally in version 9.1, which is already available in Mantic and onward. The commits that solve the issue are: commit 85c975df2c25bd799370b04bb294e568e001102f From: Rohan Sable Date: Mon, 7 Mar 2022 14:14:13 + Subject: ls: avoid triggering automounts Link: https://git.savannah.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=coreutils.git;a=commitdiff;h=v9.0-177-g85c975df2c2 commit

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2036761] Re: [mantic] ppa-purge no longer purges what add-apt-repository adds
Sponsored for noble. ** Changed in: ppa-purge (Ubuntu Noble) Status: Triaged => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2036761 Title: [mantic] ppa-purge no longer purges what add-apt-repository adds Status in ppa-purge package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ppa-purge source package in Mantic: Triaged Status in software-properties source package in Mantic: Confirmed Status in ppa-purge source package in Noble: Fix Committed Status in software-properties source package in Noble: Confirmed Bug description: Thank you @jbicha for the original bug report! [ Impact ] Currently ppa-purge fails to purge packages on distribution using the deb822 source format. Currently mantic and noble make use of this format and are affected by this issue. When running ppa-purge to remove a custom PPA, ppa-purge fails to disable the custom PPA since it cannot disable deb822 sources and leads to apt still querying the ppa when running: $ apt update In older versions of ubuntu, PPAs used the ".list" format which could be disabled by simply commenting out the "deb" line with a "#". This was the method that ppa-purge used to disable PPAs. This new patch allows ppa-purge to detect and disable deb822 source files by adding an "Enabled: no" field in each component section of the deb822 file. It also removes any line that starts with "Enabled:" to make sure the resulting file is clean. [ Test Plan ] The changes were tested on both mantic and noble in a lxc container using the oibaf mesa PPA (https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers) as the test PPA. The following steps were recorded in a noble lxc container. - First make sure that mesa-utils is installed in your environment: $ sudo apt update && sudo apt install mesa-utils - Add the oibaf PPA to your system using the following command: $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers - Make sure that the mesa-utils packages were upgraded after adding the PPA: $ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade $ dpkg - l | grep mesa - output should be similar to the following: ii libegl-mesa0:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n amd64free implementation of the EGL API -- Mesa vendor library ii libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n amd64free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules ii libglapi-mesa:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n amd64free implementation of the GL API -- shared library ii libglx-mesa0:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n amd64free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX vendor library ii mesa-utils 9.0.0-2 amd64Miscellaneous Mesa utilities -- symlinks ii mesa-utils-bin:amd649.0.0-2 amd64Miscellaneous Mesa utilities -- native applications ii mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64 24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n amd64Mesa Vulkan graphics drivers - Install and run ppa-purge: $ sudo apt install ppa-purge $ sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers - ppa-purge will report at the end that none of the oibaf packages need to be downgraded/removed: libglapi-mesa is already the newest version (24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n). libglapi-mesa set to manually installed. libglx-mesa0 is already the newest version (24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n). libglx-mesa0 set to manually installed. mesa-vulkan-drivers is already the newest version (24.1~git2402280600.41722c~oibaf~n). mesa-vulkan-drivers set to manually installed. This issue sounds similar to an issue known about to the dnsmasq maintainers, where dnsmasq would crash with updates occurring due to configuration refresh[0]. This resulted in us upgrading dnsmasq to the version which ships with Ubuntu Lunar. Which was no better. Dnsmasq still crashed upon record updates for addresses and ports getting configuration added/changed/removed. We later downgraded to the version of dnsmasq shipped in Ubuntu Focal, and dnsmasq stopped crashing and appeared stable enough to utilize for CI purposes. ** Kernel log from Ubuntu Jammy Package ** [229798.876726] dnsmasq[81586]: segfault at 7c28 ip 7f6e8313147e sp 7fffb3d6f830 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f6e830b4000+195000] [229798.876745] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [229805.444912] dnsmasq[401428]: segfault at dce8 ip 7fe63bf6a47e sp 7ffdb105b440 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fe63beed000+195000] [229805.444933] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230414.213448] dnsmasq[401538]: segfault at 78b8 ip 7f12160e447e sp 7ffed6ef2190 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f1216067000+195000] [230414.213467] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230465.098989] dnsmasq[402665]: segfault at c378 ip 7f81458f047e sp 7fff0db334a0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f8145873000+195000] [230465.099005] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231787.247374] dnsmasq[402863]: segfault at 7318 ip 7f3940b9147e sp 7ffc8df4f010 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f3940b14000+195000] [231787.247392] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231844.886399] dnsmasq[405182]: segfault at dc58 ip 7f32a29e147e sp 7ffddedd7480 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f32a2964000+195000] [231844.886420] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [234692.482154] dnsmasq[405289]: segfault at 67d8 ip 7fab0c5c447e sp 7fffd6fd8fa0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fab0c547000+195000] [234692.482173] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a ** Kernel log entries from Ubuntu Lunar package ** [234724.842339] dnsmasq[409843]: segfault at fffd ip 7f35a147647e sp 7ffd536038c0 error 5 in libc.so.6[7f35a13f9000+195000] [234724.842368] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [234784.918116] dnsmasq[410019]: segfault at fffd ip 7f634233947e sp 7fff33877f20 error 5 in libc.so.6[7f63422bc000+195000] [234784.918133] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2026757] Re: dnsmasq on Ubuntu Jammy crashes on neutron-dhcp-agent updates
>From that trace, it looks like it is in this code in dhcp_config_free() when it makes the free() call: #ifdef HAVE_DHCP6 if (config->flags & CONFIG_ADDR6) { struct addrlist *addr, *tmp; for (addr = config->addr6; addr; addr = tmp) { tmp = addr->next; free(addr); } } #endif That *seems* Ok at first look, right? I do like the while() loop above it better :) I do see a potential issue when IPv6 addresses are added to this list, but I think it would just cause a memory leak, search for CONFIG_ADDR6 in that file. Guess I'll have to send that to the list, I can't unsee it now. We later downgraded to the version of dnsmasq shipped in Ubuntu Focal, and dnsmasq stopped crashing and appeared stable enough to utilize for CI purposes. ** Kernel log from Ubuntu Jammy Package ** [229798.876726] dnsmasq[81586]: segfault at 7c28 ip 7f6e8313147e sp 7fffb3d6f830 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f6e830b4000+195000] [229798.876745] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [229805.444912] dnsmasq[401428]: segfault at dce8 ip 7fe63bf6a47e sp 7ffdb105b440 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fe63beed000+195000] [229805.444933] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230414.213448] dnsmasq[401538]: segfault at 78b8 ip 7f12160e447e sp 7ffed6ef2190 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f1216067000+195000] [230414.213467] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230465.098989] dnsmasq[402665]: segfault at c378 ip 7f81458f047e sp 7fff0db334a0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f8145873000+195000] [230465.099005] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231787.247374] dnsmasq[402863]: segfault at 7318 ip 7f3940b9147e sp 7ffc8df4f010 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f3940b14000+195000] [231787.247392] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231844.886399] dnsmasq[405182]: segfault at dc58 ip 7f32a29e147e sp 7ffddedd7480 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f32a2964000+195000] [231844.886420] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [234692.482154] dnsmasq[405289]: segfault at 67d8 ip 7fab0c5c447e sp 7fffd6fd8fa0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fab0c547000+195000] [234692.482173] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a ** Kernel log entries from Ubuntu Lunar package ** [234724.842339] dnsmasq[409843]: segfault at fffd ip 7f35a147647e sp 7ffd536038c0 error 5 in libc.so.6[7f35a13f9000+195000] [234724.842368] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00

We later downgraded to the version of dnsmasq shipped in Ubuntu Focal, and dnsmasq stopped crashing and appeared stable enough to utilize for CI purposes. ** Kernel log from Ubuntu Jammy Package ** [229798.876726] dnsmasq[81586]: segfault at 7c28 ip 7f6e8313147e sp 7fffb3d6f830 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f6e830b4000+195000] [229798.876745] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [229805.444912] dnsmasq[401428]: segfault at dce8 ip 7fe63bf6a47e sp 7ffdb105b440 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fe63beed000+195000] [229805.444933] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230414.213448] dnsmasq[401538]: segfault at 78b8 ip 7f12160e447e sp 7ffed6ef2190 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f1216067000+195000] [230414.213467] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230465.098989] dnsmasq[402665]: segfault at c378 ip 7f81458f047e sp 7fff0db334a0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f8145873000+195000] [230465.099005] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231787.247374] dnsmasq[402863]: segfault at 7318 ip 7f3940b9147e sp 7ffc8df4f010 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f3940b14000+195000] [231787.247392] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231844.886399] dnsmasq[405182]: segfault at dc58 ip 7f32a29e147e sp 7ffddedd7480 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f32a2964000+195000] [231844.886420] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e

[Touch-packages] [Bug 2033892] Re: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled
** Tags removed: sts-sponsor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to coreutils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2033892 Title: ls -l triggers mount of autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled Status in coreutils package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in coreutils source package in Jammy: In Progress Status in coreutils package in Fedora: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Issuing a 'ls -l' or a 'stat' on an autofs share when you have set --ghost in the auto.master file, or browse_mode=yes in autofs.conf will lead to the shares being mounted, when they didn't previously. Disks / shares may not be present and the mounts may fail, leading to errors in your output. This is a behaviour change in autofs 8.32, which occurred in the transition to using statx() instead of stat()/lstat() in previous releases. There doesn't seem to be any workarounds, apart from not running a 'ls -l' in your autofs share directory. [Testcase] Start two Jammy VMs. One will be a NFS server, the other, the client. NFS server: Server VM: $ sudo hostnamectl set-hostname jammy-nfs-server $ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y $ sudo apt install nfs-kernel-server $ sudo mkdir /export $ sudo mkdir /export/users $ sudo vi /etc/exports # add the following lines: /export 192.168.122.0/24(rw,fsid=0,no_subtree_check,sync) /export/users 192.168.122.0/24(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,sync) $ sudo systemctl restart nfs-server.service AutoFS Client: $ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install autofs $ sudo vim /etc/autofs.conf browse_mode = yes $ sudo mkdir /mnt2 $ sudo vim /etc/auto.master /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect $ sudo vim /etc/auto.indirect export 192.168.122.18:/export export-missing 192.168.122.18:/export-missing $ sudo reboot $ cd /mnt2 $ ls -l ls: cannot access 'export-missing': No such file or directory total 4 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Feb 12 21:48 export d? ? ?? ?? export-missing $ mount -l | grep /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs (rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=634,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=21561) 192.168.122.18:/export on /mnt2/export type nfs (rw,relatime,vers=3,rsize=524288,wsize=524288,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=192.168.122.18,mountvers=3,mountport=35786,mountproto=udp,local_lock=none,addr=192.168.122.18) We see the mount for export occurred, and export-missing was attempted, but it was either bogus or the disk was not present, leading to a "No such file or directory" error. There are test packages available in the following ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf378489-test If you install them, this is what should occur: $ ls -l total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 12 22:01 export drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Feb 12 22:01 export-missing $ mount -l | grep /mnt2 /etc/auto.indirect on /mnt2 type autofs (rw,relatime,fd=6,pgrp=636,timeout=300,minproto=5,maxproto=5,indirect,pipe_ino=18346) No mounts happen, and no errors either. [Where problems could occur] We are changing the behaviour of core utilities, ls and stat, such that they no longer attempt to mount autofs shares when --ghost option is present or browse_mode is enabled. This is the intended behaviour in the first place, and has been this way for at least a decade prior, and was changed to return to this behaviour shortly after the release of coreutils that introduced statx() that caused automounts to occur. It is unlikely any system administrators are relying on the behaviour found in jammy in any scripts or day to day operations that would be adversely affected by the change. The worst case scenario is that a user doing an 'ls -l' on an unmounted disk finds the mount doesn't automatically occur, and they have to attach the disk and issue the mount themselves. If a regression were to occur, it would be limited to the ls and stat commands, specifically when listing directories linked to autofs mountpoints. [Other info] The automount behaviour change was introduced upstream in version 8.32, with the introduction of the statx() call. This means only Jammy is affected. It was quickly reverted back to how it was originally in version 9.1, which is already available in Mantic and onward. We later downgraded to the version of dnsmasq shipped in Ubuntu Focal, and dnsmasq stopped crashing and appeared stable enough to utilize for CI purposes. ** Kernel log from Ubuntu Jammy Package ** [229798.876726] dnsmasq[81586]: segfault at 7c28 ip 7f6e8313147e sp 7fffb3d6f830 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f6e830b4000+195000] [229798.876745] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [229805.444912] dnsmasq[401428]: segfault at dce8 ip 7fe63bf6a47e sp 7ffdb105b440 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fe63beed000+195000] [229805.444933] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230414.213448] dnsmasq[401538]: segfault at 78b8 ip 7f12160e447e sp 7ffed6ef2190 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f1216067000+195000] [230414.213467] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [230465.098989] dnsmasq[402665]: segfault at c378 ip 7f81458f047e sp 7fff0db334a0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f8145873000+195000] [230465.099005] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231787.247374] dnsmasq[402863]: segfault at 7318 ip 7f3940b9147e sp 7ffc8df4f010 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f3940b14000+195000] [231787.247392] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [231844.886399] dnsmasq[405182]: segfault at dc58 ip 7f32a29e147e sp 7ffddedd7480 error 4 in libc.so.6[7f32a2964000+195000] [231844.886420] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [234692.482154] dnsmasq[405289]: segfault at 67d8 ip 7fab0c5c447e sp 7fffd6fd8fa0 error 4 in libc.so.6[7fab0c547000+195000] [234692.482173] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a ** Kernel log entries from Ubuntu Lunar package ** [234724.842339] dnsmasq[409843]: segfault at fffd ip 7f35a147647e sp 7ffd536038c0 error 5 in libc.so.6[7f35a13f9000+195000] [234724.842368] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00 <48> 8b 47 f8 64 8b 2b a8 02 75 57 48 8b 15 18 39 17 00 64 48 83 3a [234784.918116] dnsmasq[410019]: segfault at fffd ip 7f634233947e sp 7fff33877f20 error 5 in libc.so.6[7f63422bc000+195000] [234784.918133] Code: 98 13 00 e8 04 b9 ff ff 0f 1f 40 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 85 ff 0f 84 bb 00 00 00 55 48 8d 77 f0 53 48 83 ec 18 48 8b 1d 92 39 17 00

I did not built this into a full reproducible test case because I found another test case… Example 2 munin's autopkgtests are now failing because postfix is now unexpectedly being installed. https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/munin/noble/amd64 Other Info gnupg2's changelog indicates that there was an attempt to avoid this misbehavior by having gnupg only Suggest gpg-wks-server. In fact, there is **nothing** in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS that Depends or Recommends gpg-wks-server. I added a munin bug task as a pointer in case anyone wonder's about the autopkgtest regression but I don't believe munin needs any changes. Hello. After automatic upgrade of tzdata from 2023c-0ubuntu0.22.04.2 to 2024a-0ubuntu0.22.04 the previously set EST time zone was automatically changed to "America/Adak" or "America/Indiana/Indianapolis" on all our servers (50+). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1767172] Re: Regression: /etc/modules checked against blacklist or it's really hard to load blacklisted watchdog modules when one really wants one
> I think it's fine. It sounds like there will just be no way to override package-installed blacklists any more. That's unfortunate, but it's a very rare situation. The i6300esb watchdog driver is required for every KVM/qemu virtual machine with an emulated watchdog (https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/LibvirtWatchdog). Having no easy option to enable that module for virtual machines is a blocker for having them reset when stuck. See the following issues to: * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642930 * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1948040 * https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1009350 * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1432837 ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #1009350 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1009350 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767172 Title: Regression: /etc/modules checked against blacklist or it's really hard to load blacklisted watchdog modules when one really wants one Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Impossible / hard to force the system to load a watchdog module because it is blacklisted by the kernel auto-generated list of "watchdog" modules. /etc/modules used to "just work" before. e.g. bcm2835_wdt module on arm64 === Before systemd-modules-load, /etc/init.d/kmod would load modules directly with "modprobe" (and _not_ "modprobe -b"): load_module() { local module args module="$1" args="$2" if [ "$VERBOSE" != no ]; then log_action_msg "Loading kernel module $module" modprobe $module $args || true else modprobe $module $args > /dev/null 2>&1 || true fi } However, under 18.04, systemd-modules-load will _ignore_ modules that are manually listed in /etc/modules and process them with the blacklist (the same as "modprobe -b" would). This means that it is not possible to manually load modules that are blacklisted (like watchdog modules): systemd-238/src/modules-load/modules-load.c: static int load_module(struct kmod_ctx *ctx, const char *m) { const int probe_flags = KMOD_PROBE_APPLY_BLACKLIST; ... default: err = kmod_module_probe_insert_module(mod, probe_flags, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL); if (err == 0) log_info("Inserted module '%s'", kmod_module_get_name(mod)); else if (err == KMOD_PROBE_APPLY_BLACKLIST) log_info("Module '%s' is blacklisted", kmod_module_get_name(mod)); Blacklists should _not_ be applied by systemd-modules-load. This issue sounds similar to an issue known about to the dnsmasq maintainers, where dnsmasq would crash with updates occurring due to configuration refresh[0]. This resulted in us upgrading dnsmasq to the version which ships with Ubuntu Lunar. Which was no better. Dnsmasq still crashed upon record updates for addresses and ports getting configuration added/changed/removed. This allows the dynamic linker to do further symbol resolution. R_AARCH64_ABS32 likewise is allowed in shared object, however under ILP32 abi. The original behavior for R_AARCH64_ABS32 under LP64 is that, it's allowed in shared object and silently resolved at static linking time. No dynamic relocation entry is generate for it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1980991] Re: /usr/sbin/on_ac_power incorrectly reporting ac power status

I believe I discovered a bug in the /usr/sbin/on_ac_power script. I have a Dell OptiPlex 5090 host that has an entry in /sys/class/power_supply for "ucsi-source-psy-USBC000:001". I believe this is the USB-C power delivery port on the front of the chassis. The issue I'm encountering is that /usr/sbin/on_ac_power is exiting with code 1 which states: (1 (false) if not on AC power) when that isn't the case. This looks to be because of the ucsi-source-psy-USBC000:001 entry reporting the "online" status as 0, presumably because nothing is currently connected to that USB-C port. This causes /usr/sbin/on_ac_power to incorrectly report that the machine isn't connected to AC power and causes other utilities like unattended-upgrades to quit when using the default configuration since it believes the machine isn't connected to AC power. There is a workaround with unattended-upgrades where you can specify it to run regardless of if AC power is connected, but as more and more chassis implement power-delivery USB-C ports I foresee this becoming more of an issue. I'm not sure if it's anything to look into, but I figured I would share my findings. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can provide any additional information, troubleshooting, or testing.
