Title:
After OTA-10 [BQ 4.5] I don't get any sound or light notifications for
  SMS

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Incomplete
Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After OTA-10 update, I received many calls but nothing shows on the
screen: no light, no sound of calling. After the person who SMS me or
call me end the call, or send the SMS I received a notification that I
have a missed call or missed SMS, that I never heard.

The problem is that this is my main phone, and one of the call was
from my boss and I was not answering him at the right moment.

After a reboot everthing was ok.

I have Ubuntu on my laptop, I can help you with logs with adb, if I
receive the right instructions in solving this bug. Also I can help
you with more informations. Please ask me...

After OTA-11 I dont get SMS sound notifications. For calls everything
  is ok.

  3. Unlock the screen

Present behaviour: Phone app is open with the number of an answered phona call
Desired behaviour: We closed all apps before locking the screen so after
unlocking the app should stay closed.

In other words: The app doesn't remember its state before a call and
doesn't return to it when a phone call ends.

But while using mobile data (3G/H) *if there is no update available*, it gets
stuck on the "Checking for updates..." screen and the spinner keeps spinning. I
waited as long as 10-15 minutes.
Note: If there is an update available then the behaviour is normal, i.e.
shows the available update(s) after a few seconds.
I'm seeing this behaviour from the very beginning (OTA-6 days).

it's not a random behaviour. Can anyone else confirm?

2016-07-04 Thread Anupam Datta
I didnt install any third party kernel. I had downloaded from Ubuntu repo
as my touchscreen was not working. I was suggested to download from Ubuntu
official repo, not from any arbitrary source and exactly I had done that.
And it got updated after that from Ubuntu updates.

Previously I was told to download latest kernel from Ubuntu repo and I did
that. And you are saying unsupported? Can you please give me exact
downloadable links of kernel? I will download and install and will see
whether the Problem is there or not

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1588349] Re: Checking for updates never finishes on 3G

2016-07-02 Thread Anupam
@Pat just tried this once again, it actually took 9-10 minutes to show
"Software is up to date" on 3G (started at 17:23, showed at around
17:33). Maybe something to do with the data connection! But I noticed
earlier, if there are updates available, it lists them after 2-3 seconds
on the same data connection. Also before and after this update check I
opened browser, facebook app, hangups app etc. All are working fine, not
super slow or something like that.

Bug description:
If I'm using wi-fi and go to settings and then select updates, "Checking for
updates..." screen appears with a spinner for a few seconds; if there is any
update available it shows, otherwise informs about the unavailability of
updates.

2016-06-22 Thread Anupam
@Jim Stupid question: can this be possibly related to the memory-leak(?)
issue? Last few times I noticed that when this silent SMS issue
occurred, the issue of frequent blank screens in web renderers (e.g.
facebook app shows the message: "Oops, something went wrong." and asks
to reload all the time) started to show up simultaneously. Both the
issues go away after a reboot.

2016-06-09 Thread Anupam
I also noticed the clock icon appears randomly in date/time indicator even when
there is no alarm set. It vanishes as soon as I drag down the top panel.
My device is bq E5.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1590586] Re: Frequent pocket interactions with turbo (proximity sensor should be enabled on lockscreen)

2016-06-09 Thread Anupam
I faced this problem so many times with my bq E5. I'm not exactly sure,
but I believe USSD pop-ups are the culprits in my case.

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Dogfooding turbo, it very frequently happens to me that I wake up the
device in the pocket (probably home button press) and either launch
the emergency call dialer, or enter the wrong pin many times in a row
so that the device is then locked for 5 minutes when I want to use it.
Also changing all sorts of settings in the indicator has happened a
  couple of times already.

The solution would be to enable the proximity sensor while on the
lockscreen (not only during notifications, but in general) and not
actually turning the screen on if the sensor is covered.

One could argue that the home button should not wake up the device,
however, I'm also testing the fingerprint reader and just pressing the
home button with my thumb to wake up the device and directly unlock
it, is the best thing ever. If we'd disable the home button from
waking up the device, it would require me to first press the button on
the side, and then move the finger down to the home button to unlock
it, which breaks the awesomeness of the fingerprint reader. So we
should keep the home button enabled, but as proposed above, take the
proximity sensor into use to prevent the accidental pocket presses.

Also, in the future we might want to wake up the screen by double-
tapping on it, which again would require the proximity sensor to guard
  the situation.

Bug description:
When it is just past the start time of an event, the indicator lists
that event as 'x minutes ago'. At an initial glance, this doesn't look
much different from an event scheduled in the future, and takes me a
couple of seconds to register that the event is in-progress.

After an hour or so, the event is simply listed with its start time,
which looks identical to a future event, and takes even more time to
process that it is an in-progress event.

Proposed solution: An in-progress event should display its time as
  'Now'.

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Browsing the Web or using Web Apps like Twitter are not really
pleasant on my BQ E5 HD with OTA-10. At least 50 per cent of the time
when I want to scroll up or down the page using my index finger, the
phone reacts by following a link below my finger where I start the
  swiping/scrolling.

To me it seems like Ubuntu interprets a gesture as a tap way too
  early.

If you want to try, visit a page like msn.com, yahoo news or
spiegel.de and try to just scroll the page without accidentally
following any of the links to the full article or some ad.

This is really annoying for me as I constantly need to go back and
retry my scrolling. Feels like the phone does what it wants instead of
  doing what I want.

I suspect this is just a question of a few additional milliseconds
more to wait if a touch gesture is a swipe or a tap. I am quite sure
this is not (only) my fault, because I owned an iPhone and an Android
tablet and very rarely expereinced similar problems.

2016-05-13 Thread Anupam
@mpredotka I do that from the very beginning actually! But there is a
problem with the owner info in the circle. Suppose I lose my phone and
some non-Ubuntu-Touch-user finds it. Then if the circle is not set at
the owner info screen, the it's highly probable that the person wouldn't
realise that double tapping over and over again will lead them to the
owner info screen.

Bug description:
On my Ubuntu phone, I have set my screen lock to come on after a
minute of none use. This is in the Settings > Security & Privacy >
Locking & Unlocking. The lock does come on as requested however, it is
instant. One second the screen is on and then the next the screen is
locked and black. There is no fade (like on my Ubuntu tablet), which
fades out giving me the option to cancel the locking, if you wish to.

Is there a setting that stops my phone from locking so fast and where
  I can increase the fade?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1578673] Re: [Touch] Volume level is not maintained per output device

2016-05-05 Thread Anupam
** Description changed:

If I'm not mistaken this issue was not present before OTA-10. I usually
like to keep the volume at around 80% on speaker and around 50% on
earphones. Previously the device used to remember these choices and
adjust them accordingly. But now it only remembers the previously set
volume level and hence I have to adjust manually all the time while
  switching output devices.

Bug description:
I switched to Ubuntu phone from an old Nokia device. One of the things
I miss is a possibility to quiet the ringing phone without rejecting
the incoming call. Yes, I know I can press the "down" button of a
volume adjustment but this way I'm turning off all future
notifications. On a meeting, training course, while talking with my
boss, or just at any other place as well as one time, short lasting
situation I'd like to be able to suddenly shut the "mouth" of the
phone, only this one time, not completely till the moment I press the
"UP" button of a volume control (what the user definitely forget and
the phone will stay silent while the next message comes or while the
  next important incoming phone call).

All Nokia phones gave us a chance to press a "Silent" button while
incoming phone call so that the phone kept on ringing in an one time
silent mode. That gave us an opportunity for example to leave the
meeting room with a silent ringing phone, without having to reject the
incoming connection, answering it as well as making the phone silent
for all future messages, calls etc. I find the way it works today a
little bit primitive that I have to make the phone silent and then
again increase the volume. Just imagine You have to do it 5-10-20
times on a meeting or everyday at work: volume down, volume up; volume
down, volume up; volume down, volume up...

It does not make fun and I miss my 5140, 5500 or e52

MX4 today scope inconsistent date and alignment with OTA-9

Status in Today Scope:

Bug description:
Hi I am using an MX4 with OTA-9 update. After updating to OTA-9 the
Today scope sometimes cuts the day date icon in half and the scope is
out of alignment with gaps between some sections. Please see screen
capture attached. This is random and changes when you refresh the
scope, but does not clear the problem. If I then use settings to
remove the (untick Day info) , then add it again the problem is
  resolved.

As a general comment, the Today scope is still very, plus other issues
such as , slow to update, random results, fixed position for items
selected so you cant put your high priority items such as news near
the top. No option to add background picture (as every other OS does
and all main stream users will expect this)

As this is the main information scope for the phone I would have
thought it should be given a lot of attention improving the
performance etc (refresh is still painfully slow even on a fast
internet connection). When you loose wifi and have no 3G the Today
scope can be almost blank when switching the phone out of sleep or
turning it on. I wonder if you could at least save all the previous
data from the last wifi connection and show that as I don’t think your
typical Android or apple user will accept a blank main screen. The
today scope should also have custom backgrounds, these could then be
used for all scopes if selected.

Anyway sorry for going on and thanks for fixing the camera pinch to
zoom (fine now on the MX4). I know its a thankless task and us users
don’t help, I wish I could but I more of a hardware man. Just to say
your all doing a great job and anything you can do to improve the
  Today scope is much appreciated,

  Regards

  Dave H

  Performance/behavior regression opening a new tab OTA-9 🠖 OTA-10

Status in Canonical System Image:

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Having upgraded from OTA-9 to OTA-10 on my daily phone, it seems
opening a new tab UX is considerably slower for me than before
  upgrading.

The experience now is: 1. press new tab button, 2. the bottom bar
goes away, old web page is shown. 3. Only 2 seconds later, new tab
  opens.

I don't remember anymore exactly how it was OTA-9, but there wasn't an
UX problem for me there. The wait time was definitely considerably
shorter, and maybe the bottom bar didn't disappear before the new tab
  was really opened.

I've checked that the CPU usage isn't up by any other process, so this
behavior change would seem to be within webbrowser/oxide.

  Device is Bq Aquaris E4.5.

Title:
[FHD] app icons getting their top cut off (Ubuntu Touch)

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Fix Committed
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I'm having this issue since OTA-9. I can easily reproduce this with 100%
success rate now. Here's how to reproduce:
  1. go to apps scope
  2. scroll down to bottom (or at least till the first few rows go out of the
screen)
  3. scroll SLIGHTLY up so that the header with the search option (magnifying
glass icon) appears
  4. search for something
  5. press the back button to get back to apps scope
  6. scroll down through the app list
  7. pull and release to refresh
  8. scroll down through the app list again
  9. search for something again

  expected to happen:
  nothing weird

  happened instead:
at step 4. the app icon(s) appearing in the search result have their top cut
off
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/235945153/screenshot20160201_195047392.png
at step 5. now the apps in the top row of apps scope also have their top cut
off
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/235945187/screenshot20160201_195056867.png
at step 6. still top row has top cut off
at step 7. still top row has top cut off
at step 8. normality is restored
at step 9. same tops getting cut off as in step 4.

Device: bq Aquaris E5 HD, Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-9)

NOTE: I was having the opposite kinda issue (one extra blank row
before actual results and in apps scope, see Bug #1539606) previously
but it's apparently gone after restarting the device once.

2016-04-08 Thread Anupam
Was this fix ever released? I found this issue today even after the
OTA-10 update.

Title:
[FHD] app icons getting their top cut off (Ubuntu Touch)

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Fix Committed
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I'm having this issue since OTA-9. I can easily reproduce this with 100%
success rate now. Here's how to reproduce:
  1. go to apps scope
  2. scroll down to bottom (or at least till the first few rows go out of the
screen)
  3. scroll SLIGHTLY up so that the header with the search option (magnifying
glass icon) appears
  4. search for something
  5. press the back button to get back to apps scope
  6. scroll down through the app list
  7. pull and release to refresh
  8. scroll down through the app list again
  9. search for something again

  expected to happen:
  nothing weird

  happened instead:
at step 4. the app icon(s) appearing in the search result have their top cut
off
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/235945153/screenshot20160201_195047392.png
at step 5. now the apps in the top row of apps scope also have their top cut
off
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/235945187/screenshot20160201_195056867.png
at step 6. still top row has top cut off
at step 7. still top row has top cut off
at step 8. normality is restored
at step 9. same tops getting cut off as in step 4.

Device: bq Aquaris E5 HD, Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-9)

NOTE: I was having the opposite kinda issue (one extra blank row
before actual results and in apps scope, see Bug #1539606) previously
but it's apparently gone after restarting the device once.

Bug description:
Well i was wondering if you guys can add a resize option to your
gallery/camera app, so after taking a picture we can share it easily
on social media or some forums that have a limit to the size of
pictures that are allowed to be posted.

Bug description:
When I do long-tapping on the camera app icon, the app store is opened,
showing the camera app's descrition.
Then it is possible to click on "Uninstall" to unistall the camera app.
After that the camera app is uninstalled and no photos can be taken, so far
so good.

But then it is not possible to reinstall the camera app, because the
app can't be found in app store by searching for "camera".

This happened on Nexus 4 in stable channel.
This did NOT happen on Nexus 4 in rc-proposed channel.
  This happened on Aquaris E4.5.

It's almost impossible to take quick snapshots with locked phone:
Swiping, pine code, launching the photo app just takes way too long.
The fascinating scene you wanted to photograph is long gone until the
photo app is ready. Therefore the lock screen should contain an easy
to hit button that instantly starts the photo app, ready for taking
the snapshot of the year. Android and iOS show how to do this.

The option to share a contact via Messaging from the Contacts app
sends it as an MMS. Another option which simply copies the numbers
belonging to the selected contact to a text field of the Messaging app
so that the user can send the details as an SMS would be useful in
cases. This can also be achieved if the user is allowed to copy a
number from the Contacts app and paste in a text field in Messaging
  app.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1544477] Re: No sound notification for new SMS (Ubuntu Touch)

2016-02-26 Thread Anupam
Here's the media-hub.log file when there's no sound alert for new SMS.
Sound alert for new Telegram message is working fine. Also I wanted to
mention another fact in case it turns out helpful. Even when the sound
alert is working for SMSs, new Telegram message alert is significantly
louder than new SMS alert although both play the same tone (chosen in
System Settings > Sound > Message received).
