Public bug reported: Hi, tried to run an update. The main files were related to python and KiCAD. During installation of KiCAD the PC crashed and returned to the purle login screen. I couldnt login so restarted. Then tried again and the update failed again and raised this link to complet the bug report. My guess would be its connected to the KiCAD update so will try uninstalling KiCAD. Hi Daniel, Thanks for looking at this. I am still using my ubuntu MX4 as my normal daily phone and also have the BQ M10 tablet. Very sorry to hear Canonical have dropped ubuntu touch, phones and tablets. I thought it was going very well, when you consider what you have all achieved over the past few years, its a real shame. I think ubuntu touch is every bit as good as Android, better in some cases, if you consider scopes and the swipe gestures. Going back to Android will be a disappointment for me. Thanks for your hard work. Regarding Unity desktop, I was getting to like it and its very easy for the family to use. The HUD performance will also be difficult to replace in Gnome and I like the sliding left icons (I think we we be limited in Gnome). I have tried Gnome with some tweaks but its still not as nice to use as Unity. Public bug reported: I installed a ASUS sound card which said it had GE Force 210 encoding. After installing card I still had sound. I changed the driver to Nvidia 304.134 as requested by system settings. I then did a apt-get upgrade, now no sound. Did I do something wrong? Please let me know. Sometimes with weak or no wifi the today scope is messed up, in the same way as the below report I found for the BQE4.5. If you try to refresh it the problem is not resolved (such as only half the date shown, or no date or no pictures). Even after returning to a good wifi signal and performing the pulldown refresh the problem is not resolved. As I have seen this problem from the start on older OTA versions (I have reported before), my feeling is there is a fundamental problem with the way scopes are refreshed when you pull down the screen. I have also screen the "no pictures" on other scopes and the refresh not working, could this be a common scope problem and nothing to do with the today scope?. Note, when the today scope is messed up if you un-tick the "day info" then refresh and then tick day info again, this sometimes helps. If no pictures displayed (today and other scopes) I normally have to reset the phone to correct the problem. Public bug reported: Hi, after updating my Meizu MX4 to OTA-14 the screen unlock has changed to the poor looking desktop/tablet version. When compared to the original phone unlock screen (up to OTA-13) this new version looks very weak, lacking the sophistication of the original version. You would not see such a screen unlock on an Android or Apple devices. It would be good to understand why this has been changed, I can only think that you have settled for the one version, this is a real shame for the phone and in my opinion is a retrograde step lowering the chances of normal users adopting the Ubuntu phone. Can you please consider changing the phone unlock screen back to the version used before OTA-14. Hi, Just wondered if anyone was looking at the above. My Meizu MX4 is now on OTA-13 and although the car can see the phone and identifies it as an MX4 it will not pair with the phone. I can understand that it may not be possible to use the high end feature of the Jaguar blue-tooth connection but I would have though the car should at least pair with the phone. Hi Michi, OK thanks for checking and I agree with your explanation as you can see similar problems with other scopes. I guess the Today scope looks worse (and more annoying) as its the main scope you see each time the phone is active, others are not always checked or used. Also the scopes with multiple feeds are more effected. This problem wouldn’t be so bad if they cleared them selves once a good wifi signal returns, but as it is now you sometimes have to restart the phone. If this could be resolved I think it would make Ubuntu Touch look more stable for normal every day use, so should be given a high priority for OTA-14 / 15. Note, have attached this mornings Today scope crash. In this case the wifi has been active with good signal all night. Looking at the settings in my 4G EE home broadband router, the DHCP lease time is set to 86400s (1 day) so the IP number could have changed overnight, note sure if this could also be related to general wifi issues. Hi Kyle, Thanks for all your efforts to try to resolve this issue. I have install the file you sent using the below method: Logged onto my MX4 in developer mode using adb shell (in read only mode). Copied your file to the phone Download directory and: phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/Downloads$ pkcon --allow-untrusted install- local com.canonical.scopes.dashboard_4.11.1_armhf.click The package installed OK! (I am no software engineer, but will have a go) Have just tried the New Today scope version 4.11.1, please see below result. Long distance weak wifi - on refresh on the data shown. Moving into just 3G - after a few refreshes first the data then weather and BBC shown. Moving back into weak wifi - on refresh just date icon shown (no weather or BBC) Back to my house with strong wifi - still only date shown even after 5 pulldown refresh actions. After more refreshes the screen went blank. Checked my wifi speed with FAST app , OK about 24M Checked internet - all OK Looking at the Today scope again, refresh sometimes shows the date icon only or blank screen. Entered Today scope settings and turned off weather and BBC (I dont have holidays selected and cant see any elpais option on my phone). My selected items in the Today scope settings are listed below. Location data Contacts Day Info Weather Channel BBC euronews Now on refresh the euronews pictures are back, sometimes! I then turned the BBC and weather back on (in Today scope settings)- strange, sometimes I get the weather other times just the date icon. >From this point, no number of refreshes could correct the today scope so I >reset the phone. All then back to normal. Hi, just updated my BQ M10 to OTA-12 and the problem is not resolved. I think the media player sound is in sync for the video camera mp4 and youtube mp4 streaming, the problem is with .avi files. Hi Kevin, Regarding the speed and operation of the dash/scope scrolling and swiping, I read a report that the “turn the book page” current scope style, could change to a vertical swipe, similar to the one used in the browser. I tried this idea using the browser and would like to say how flat and uninteresting it is when compared to the natural action of swiping right/left through full pages. I think this idea is a real mistake and could reduce appeal of scopes and there aesthetic look and feel. I think a quick link approach (as suggested above) “using the page dots” could work great, and you don’t need to start again from scratch with an uninteresting, easy solution. Please can you reconsider this important scope navigation and focus on improving the current method speed and refresh. Even though this is a powerfull phone moving between scopes is still laggy and slow also some auto refresh as you move to them. I would like to suggest that auto refresh takes place in the background so all scopes are ready when you flick through them. Also I wonder if a scope selection system would be a good idea so you could just direct to the scope you want and not have to scroll through many scopes before reaching the one you wish to use. Note, The Today scope is improving slowly and the time for each item to show is reducing, but basically its still far too slow to be the main scope. If you refresh say the BBC news scope it completes in a 2 seconds, the today scope still takes 10s (even after fixing the delay to show calls and texts). I understand people are working very hard to improve this key area. Hi I am using the Meizu MX4 with OTA-10 update. I totally agree, that the scope text size is just too small, far smaller than the website you navigate to from the scope, such as the BBC. If possible the user should be given the option to increase the font size in the settings menu (or have a number of fonts to select from). Personally I think this is the single most important issue, apart from the general operation speed, unreliable Today scope and dropping miracast on the MX4 & BQ phones. Note, I have also just received my BQ M10 tablet, I thought at least on the larger screen the text size could be OK (its slightly better), but to have the option to adjust it would still help many people. I think the same idea should be applied to other scopes as they have the same issue (blank screen with refresh). Note, I have been using my MX4 as my normal phone and used it on a recent trip to Germany. Moving between phone providers (roaming) , flying (flight mode) , time zones etc is bring up these sorts of issues. Public bug reported: Hi I am using a Meizu MX4 with the OTA 8 update. If I try to select 3G "in the open" with no wifi signal (but wifi turned on) the phone doesn’t switch to 3G and stays on wifi. I understand that auto switching between 3G and wifi is a good thing and wifi should take priority, but if there is no wifi is available in the area then I would have thought the phone should switch to 3G when selected. Note, the old MX4 problem with wifi dropping out (from the same router) when moving around a building, and not reconnecting is still occurring with the OTA 8 update. This is not serious but very annoying. The only way to reconnect is to turn wifi off then back on again. If the phone knows it is connected to the internet, then looses connection, could you not just treat this in the same way as the first time it connected in the building. I guess the same idea could also help for the above 3G problem. In this case if wifi on, but no signal then 3G takes priority even if the wifi is on. I have this problem with my Meizu MX4, the camera is great but this is a real problem for video. This is a key video camera function not a background bug, this needs to be fixed urgently. The bug report has been open since 2014, and still only has an importance of Medium, surely now we have real hardware being sold this should be changed to high and included to the list for OTA-9. I also find the default gray text very dim and difficult to read, once you navigate to the website (such as the BBC) the text is far better. This is not so good for a phone that's designed to be content based.
