Bug description:
  When working on laptop, we may need an external wifi adapter in order
  to catch a remote access point no working well with the built-in
  wireless card of the laptop. In such case, it would make sense to
  disable the internal wireless card in order to have just the external
  on working. However, Ubuntu does not offer a simple way to do so.

  Moreover, if I click on "Turn off" for the built-in wifi adapter in
  the top right corner menu (see the screenshot), both wifi adapters are
  swtiched off, which is not the desired effect.

  See for example: https://askubuntu.com/questions/168032/how-to-

  Onlye the generic ones! Selfbuild kernels are not affected of that.

  Ubuntu-Systems running very long without reinstallation. After some
  years of updating there are a lot of old kernel-images installed but
  never used. It is a lot of space for mobile devices like netbooks,
  laptops or smaller.

  It can be realize (like feudora does) with a meta-package like "kernel-lates"
which is assoziated with the last/youngest 3 kernels.

  All older one would be autoremoved.

  Of course there could be selected another solution to make it easier
  to configure if someone need to keep all old kernels.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1863186] Re: package sdl2-dev depends on outdated version of libpulse-dev

2020-02-14 Thread Juhani Numminen
Please note that libsdl2-dev has an unversioned dependency on libpulse-
dev.

There seems to be a local version mismatch between the libpulse
packages: “libpulse-dev : Depends: libpulse0 (= 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4) but
1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5 is installed”.

Did you have the bionic-proposed repository enabled at some point but
don't have it anymore? I think if you enabled the proposed updates then
you might be able to install libpulse-dev again.

Status in qtdeclarative-opensource-src package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  qmlscene -qt=5 -style material file.qml

QApplication: invalid style override passed, ignoring it.
  on the terminal.

  This does not happen when using the environment variable method, e.g.
QT_QUICK_CONTROLS_STYLE=material qmlscene -qt=5 file.qml

  The documentation for how this is supposed to work is at

https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtquickcontrols2-styles.html#using-styles-in-qt-quick-controls-2

  I'm reporting this to ubuntu because it might be due to packaging or
  patching done for Ubuntu. I can not conveniently try a pristine
  upstream version of Qt, so hoping the Qt Ubuntu maintainer can quickly
  determine if this is an upstream bug or not.

  I'll attach a trivial test file which demonstrates the problem

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
qmlscene -style material test.qml  # test.qml attached

  ACTUAL RESULTS:
Prints warning about invalid style on the terminal

  EXPECTED RESULTS:
Silent obedience

   ubuntu-bug / appport never opens browser window

Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, X11 gnome session.

  For some reason ubuntu-bug no longer opens a browser
  window.

  After prompting whether or not to Send the report, clicking "Send"
  just closes appport and nothing else ever happens. The exit status of
  "ubuntu-bug" is zero.

  I don't know whether the bug data was sent but browser not opened, or
  if apport silently croaked (yet exited with zero status) before
  sending anything.

  Firefox is my default browser, confirmed just now in Settings->Default
  Applications->Web.

  Anyway this worked fine before, but it has been many months since I
  tried to submit a bug.

  Since it's not common knowledge to install that package manually,
  maybe it should be installed by default on the 18.04 release to have
  more applications working out of the box with the indicators/topicons?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1727933] Re: as

2018-12-19 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1809014] Re: mpeg-2 detected as tga (Targa image)

** Tags added: cosmic

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
  mpeg-2 detected as tga (Targa image)

Status in file package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  It appears that currently using either the file command or through the
  File::LibMagic interface that 1:5.34-2 on Cosmic (18.10) makes a
  MPEG-2 file be detected as Targa at a higher priority, thus taking
  precedence over being what it actually is. See the below lines as
  examples using clips from
  http://hubblesource.stsci.edu/sources/video/clips/ as examples:

  $ file -k /home/piratefinn/Downloads/hst_2.mpg
  /home/piratefinn/Downloads/hst_2.mpg: Targa image data - Map 63635 x 65536 x
1 +268 +60928 - 11-bit alpha - top - right - four way interleave MPEG sequence,
v2, program multiplex (Lepton 3.x), scale 0-0, spot sensor temperature
0.00, unit celsius, color scheme 0, calibration: offset 0.00, slope
0.00\012- data

  Note that this appears to only affect MPEG-2 (and possibly higher) as
  MPEG-1 is detected corretly.

  $ file -k /home/piratefinn/Downloads/hst_1.mpg
  /home/piratefinn/Downloads/hst_1.mpg: MPEG sequence, v1, progressive Y'CbCr
4:2:0 video, 320x240, 4:3, 29.97 fps (Lepton 2.x), scale 1-2, spot sensor
temperature 0.00, unit celsius, color scheme 0, show spot sensor, show
scale bar, maximum point enabled, calibration: offset 586.228088, slope
-411899156202779801569722368.00\012- data
  file -k /home/piratefinn/Downloads/hst_1.mpg

  This appears to not be an issue in 1:5.25 used in 16.04, however
  looking through the github it appears since then in possible 5.26 (or
  above) changes as seen in
  https://github.com/file/file/commit/aee048a020badb5f36008f6d11e7d5b32834bcb2
  affected this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1165014] Re: libsdl1.2-dev:i386 cannot be installed on 64-bit systems

--

Title:
  libsdl1.2-dev:i386 cannot be installed on 64-bit systems

Status in libsdl1.2 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Platform:
  Ubuntu Precise 12.04.2 LTS 3.2.0-39-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 28
00:28:53 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  Reference:
  I also refer you to bug #1068374 which is very similar in behaviour.

  Behaviour:
  When I try to bring in libsdl1.2-dev:i386, apt wants to uninstall half my
system!

  Expectation:
  I would expect the library to be installed seamlessly along with the other
i386 libraries I had already obtained.

  Detail:
  I was in the throes of installing Neverwinter Nights game natively under
linux using instructions found on
"http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=113259; and on

"http://social.bioware.com/forum/Neverwinter-Nights-1/NwN-1-Technical-Support-Self-help-for-all-versions-and-expansions/nwmouse-and-friends-64bit-linux-5212955-1.html;.

  I wanted this package to cross-compile the nwmouse.so component to assist
with the installation of a hardware mouse within the game.

  Additional:
  Using the instructions for further information requested in bug #1068374 I've
already attached the output for further analysis.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1314428] Re: apt is not essential anymore

Hi,

Please describe why you've filed this bug. What is the buggy behavior?

Title:
  apt is not essential anymore

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with apt 1.0.2ubuntu2 and apt has no
  Essential flag anymore:

  root@ubuntu:~# apt-cache show apt | grep Essential
  Build-Essential: yes

  But interestingly if I'm trying to remove apt it claims that it is still
essential:

  root@ubuntu:~# apt-get remove apt
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
  The following packages will be REMOVED:
apt
  WARNING: The following essential packages will be removed.
  This should NOT be done unless you know exactly what you are doing!
apt
  0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
  After this operation, 3673 kB disk space will be freed.
  You are about to do something potentially harmful.
  To continue type in the phrase 'Yes, do as I say!'

  Abort.

  I don't know what Build-Essential will do here (maybe some sort of
replacement?) but it is not known to the manual page of deb-src-control and the
debian documentation:
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1808611] Re: chamelon

2018-12-15 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Status in icu package in Debian:

Bug description:
  The data package compiled into supplied ICU libs is extremely out of date.
  I.e. the timezone information in libicu52 (Ubuntu 14) is as old as 2013g.
  The "newest" shipped tzdata in Bionic is 2017c, which is about as "new" as
the one in Trusty.
  Means, pretty much rotten by now.

  It wouldn't be so hard to override it with env. vars, if not for
  applications, which intentionally clear environments at startup. F.e.
  PHP FPM.

  Cannot install amd64 and i386 versions of libicu-dev in parallel (on
  x86-64/bionic)

Status in icu package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  On an x86-64 machine with Ubuntu 18.04, I've tried to install both 64
  and 32 bit versions of libicu-dev (because I wanted to build both 32
  and 64 bit versions of an app using that lib). Unfortunately, when I
  install the 64 bit version of the package then the 32 bit variant gets
  removed, and when I install the 32 bit variant then the 64 bit version
  gets removed.

  Some (slightly sanitized) console logs:

  $ cat /etc/issue.net
  Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
  $ uname -mrs
  Linux 4.15.0-38-generic x86_64
  $ apt show libicu-dev

  Version: 60.2-3ubuntu3
  $ sudo apt install libicu-dev:i386
  Reading package lists... Done

  Reading state information... Done
  The following additional packages will be installed:
libharfbuzz-dev:i386 libicu-le-hb-dev:i386
  Suggested packages:
icu-doc:i386
  The following packages will be REMOVED:
libharfbuzz-dev libicu-dev libicu-le-hb-dev
  The following NEW packages will be installed:
libharfbuzz-dev:i386 libicu-dev:i386 libicu-le-hb-dev:i386
  0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 3 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

  Interestingly, on a Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS (actually, on Travis CI), such
  a conflict does not happen.

  sudo apt-get install -y libicu-dev
  sudo apt-get install -y libicu-dev:i386

  These two work just fine, the latter does not remove the former. The
  version there is libicu-dev 52.1-3ubuntu0.8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1807502] Re: hello

2018-12-09 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1745879] Re: Icons in .desktop files are hardcoded

2018-12-07 Thread Juhani Numminen
Hi,

The desktop files come from Debian, so I suggest you report this against
the Debian bug tracker, using the reportbug command or by sending email
as instructed in https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting.

The bug should be reported against the python3.5 package. (Because
that's the version you have. Some more python2.x and python3.y packages
are actually also affected.) To verify which package owns a file, use
the command "dpkg -S /usr/share/applications/python*.desktop".

Regards,
Juhani Numminen

Title:
  Icons in .desktop files are hardcoded

Status in python3.5 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  There is already a bug report in the Python bug tracker, from 2014. It
  has only one response, saying the reporting person should open a bug
  on their distribution's bug tracker. I'm not sure if this ever
  happened, so I'm trying my luck here. If this belongs to Debian or
  Linux Mint please let me know.

  Problem:
  The icon paths in the .desktop files shipping with both Python 2.x and 3.x
are hardcoded (e.g. "/usr/share/pixmaps/python3.5.xpm"). This is extremely
annoying for theming.

  Solution:
  Instead of hardcoding the icon to "/usr/share/pixmaps/pythonx.x.xpm", it
should just say "python2" and "python3", or even "python". Almost all icon
themes will work for Python then.

  Also I wonder why there's the NoDisplay directive set to true. Like
  this, having a desktop file makes no sense at all IMO. After each
  Python update I have to edit the file again and again.

  So from this:

  [Desktop Entry]
  Name=Python (v3.5)
  Comment=Python Interpreter (v3.5)
  Exec=/usr/bin/python3.5
  Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/python3.5.xpm
  Terminal=true
  Type=Application
  Categories=Development;
  StartupNotify=true
  NoDisplay=true
  X-Desktop-File-Install-Version=0.22

  to this:

  [Desktop Entry]
  Name=Python (v3.5)
  Comment=Python Interpreter (v3.5)
  Exec=/usr/bin/python3.5
  Icon=python3
  Terminal=true
  Type=Application
  Categories=Development;
  StartupNotify=true
  X-Desktop-File-Install-Version=0.22

  Information:

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya
  Release:  18.2
  $ apt-cache policy python3

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1798411] Re: package python3 3.6.5-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed python3 package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 127

2018-12-07 Thread Juhani Numminen
Hi,

The log files that are attached indicate that the problem appears after
you have run "apt purge python3.6-minimal". Therefore I don't think it
is a bug in the python packages, because removing all Python
interpreters from your installation is not expected.

You could try to find help for fixing your system using one of the
methods listed there: https://community.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1806848] Re: not sure

2018-12-06 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Some users at the Linux Mint forums have that problem because of HP
Printer drivers downloaded directly from HP.
(https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18=273104=40)

Please open the terminal and run this command:

sudo rm /usr/share/python3/runtime.d/hplip-data.rtupdate

Then try the update again.

The error exists for a good reason: an amd64 processor usually cannot
execute programs that are compiled to run on an ARM architecture.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1794603] Re: Optimization

2018-09-27 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1794178] Re: Install failure

2018-09-26 Thread Juhani Numminen
This does not seem to be a problem in the libxext package. The error
message indicates that apt-get failed to download the file from a mirror
server "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". Please report the problem to the administrator
of "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". You can try to use an official Ubuntu archive
mirror to see if that solves the problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1784887] Re: Python3

2018-09-18 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

Please include the full output of the commands that you mentioned in the bug
report, including the error messages.
Please attach the files /var/log/dpkg.log and /var/log/apt/history.log.

Please also attach term.log from your home directory after running this command
from terminal:
sudo cp /var/log/apt/term.log $HOME/

Thanks!

2018-09-16 Thread Juhani Numminen
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 16.10 (yakkety) reached end-of-life on July 20, 2017.

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.
