[Trac] Re: allow anonymous to view Timeline-RSS?
I've used thunderbird to read password protected rss feed of trac's timeline. It was a long time ago so, I may be mistaken in some details, but I've managed to setup thunderbird that it asks for login and password. It was not very usable, but it worked. The solutin is to set up one fake rss feed that poins to /trac/login. You open thunderbird, then click on that fake feed, thunderbird ask for login and password and then you are able to access the real trac rss. I've read trac timeline for a sort period of time, I've found the solution that fits me better - the custom scripts run at night and send me the needed info from trac database. 2009/9/28 Jens Schwarz blacky6...@gmx.de: @Ivan: Well, I guess that's the point. And exactly this is the problem trying to read thesen feeds with Thunderbird ;) Because of this, I tried the other way round: Making the trac timeline worldreadable. So I setup my trac to allow the subject anonymous to perform the action TIMELINE_VIEW. The result: Now unauthorized users can access the timeline but it remains empty (in comparison to an authorized user). I expected that at least the the items of the timeline are displayed. Any hints on how to accomplish this? Thanks Jens The problem is, the items on the timeline take their permissions from TICKET_VIEW, BROWSER_VIEW, WIKI_VIEW, etc. I'm not sure of a trivial work-around here, except ugly hacks. I guess the quickest workaround I can think of is making a new timeline view that makes a subrequest as an authorized user and returns the result (or, well, minus the navbar and all of that. But the problem itself really goes against the grain of the permission system (and common sense) so, personally, I wouldn't want to do this and wouldn't do this unless my boss told me to. Maybe someone else can come up with a better workaround? Again, though, I wouldn't want to solve this problem.
