Maybe they'll come up with a new browser, h..I'm really excited for
that (and we won't have to worry about Firefox, it'll stay in a mirror
somewhere, if not forked).

[Trisquel-users] problems acceding at openmailbox.org

2014-12-09 Thread sonhodafloresta
As the title say it all, i need confirmation if anyone can access the
openmailbox.org's site? I am asking it, because i cannot access my email
neither access at forum, noting from openmailbox.org.
If it is another DDOS attack since 2 days ago... i better check another email
service that dont go down so easily...it is not the first time it happens,
but can be a bit annoying like a yo-yo effect...

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure Firefox has been getting faster, not slower. Remember Firefox
3? That Chrome was so much faster than it was one of the main reasons it
started getting popular.

I specifically remember that either Firefox 7 or Firefox 8 was lightweight
enough to work better on a certain device with only 256 MB of RAM than
Midori. I feel pretty sure that Firefox and its derivatives are the fastest
browsers now.

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to get keys on a Thinkpad T60 with german keyboard layout?

2014-12-09 Thread shiretoko

Thank you all for your helpful replies!
There was no german keyboard layout which allowed me to use the keys I needed
so I went with the proposal of MagicBanana. I wasn't aware of xmodmap and it
really worked, at least for the keys. I tried to make 'bar' accessable by
the same key just with AltGr, but by now i didn't succeed. Anyway, I will
figure that one out when i have a bit more time.

I want to add (for other people who have the same problem) that it's of
course neccessary to run
xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap at least once after making the changes. But MB was
right: with awesome/i3/xmonad, it's sufficient to run the command one time.
The changes will still persist after reboot.

 TO T3g ONLY!!!

If your WIFI device embedded into your Motherboard?, you might have a chance
to disable those drivers from the bios, before you install the drivers from
ASUS, Instead you could use generic drivers, that are GPL-3 license.

I had the same EXACT problem with a friend of mines desktop, he was using
the original drivers, but THE WIFI device was crapping-out after installing
them. I was able to delete the original, and load the GPL-3 drivers. You
could download them from the manufacture website those GPL-3 drivers only.
Assuming, that you could and know how to compile them as a generic only.

Unless, your WIFI router is AC then that will a different monster, but a
basic standard WIFI router (A,B,n,G) there is a good chance for it too work.
Bottom line, you don't lose anything by trying.

I ran into a very similar problem on a laptop and I found that I had to
remove the radeon drivers from the kernel module blacklist. Once I did that
it loaded everything up the way it used to in Toutatis.

[Trisquel-users] Sometimes the GNOME panel doesn't load in Trisquel 6.0

2014-12-09 Thread mikokiko89

Hello!

It's been a while since I noticed that the GNOME panel wasn't loading every
time I turned my machine on. The icons are in place and I can open them.
However, my system is unusable since I cannot start a program normally (I
suppose I could from terminal or the binaries' folder manually but it'd be a
hassle). My solution is to restart the computer from the button. Then it
would load in most of the cases. I should note that the problem happens
somewhat regularly but not always and sometimes I have to reboot even twice
or more. It seems pretty big issue so I finally post it here.

You can probably bring the panel back by Alt+F2 and running gnome-panel. It's
harder to say what the actual problem is.

[Trisquel-users] F-Droid Appstore criticizes application for using non-free network service

2014-12-09 Thread shiretoko

Lately, i installed the f-droid appstore on my tablet.
When I was searching for a free messaging client, I encountered Telegram
which is obviously just that.

Anyway, in the description of the program there is a big red mark, reading:
This application advertises non-free network services
and below, one can read:
Anti-feature: Non-free network, since the servers run proprietary software.

I'm here to ask for your opinion if I'm getting something wrong, because from
what i understand so far, this statement is just - excuse my vocab here -
*horrible* bullshit!

1. Why should I care if THEY use proprietary software on their servers - how
should I make sure that they are really using free software anyway, even if
they claimed it?
2. If you put it that way, you had to label every mail client the same way,
because it advertises the use of a normal mail account, hence you're
sending mails to a server with (very likely) proprietary software on it.
3. What's with the term 'non-free network'? There is nothing like a non-free
network, since you can't apply the four freedoms to it. How should you copy a
network or make your own version of it??

So it would be nice if you gave your opinion on this.
At the moment, I don't see any reason not to use Telegram and about the
expressions i'm already convinced that they are just nonsense.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Just installed jxself's 3.18 kernel. Few questions.

2014-12-09 Thread tegskywalker
No, the wifi is separate as I am using a ThinkPenguin 802.11N dongle via USB.
The ethernet port is the one that has been deblobbed and doesn't work, but
that's ok because I am using wireless instead of wired.

If I ever need to use wired internet, I guess I will have to find a different
solution. Btw, this is my mobo that goes with my AMD FX-8350:

Don't worry, I disabled secure boot. :-)

What alucardx said works only for older Radeon cards. For newer ones, you'll
have to downgrade something (not the kernel, maybe X.org or libdrm).

Re: [Trisquel-users] F-Droid Appstore criticizes application for using non-free network service

2014-12-09 Thread tegskywalker
I agree. Many of these servers are probably running a flavor of GNU/Linux or
BSD and free software applications like Apache, MySQL, nginx, PHP, or Python
to serve the data. As long as the output data that the server returns is in
an open format (like JSON or XML) then its not a big deal.

On top of that, if the software on their server is built by them and for them
for a custom purpose, then they have no obligation to share. If they do
distribute their custom software, then that's another story.

Thanks all.
I still cannot access to the site, nor via Evolution. I tried with 3

instance, finding for openmailbox.org(via internet Duckduckgo) and after
noting happens. I have no problems with conection, it works just fine, i can
access to other sites but openmailbox.org. I tried then with other 2 pcs:
with Linux Mint and even with Windows. noting works to go to Openmailbox.org.
I dont know what is going on. It says, server not found, which is strange,
because if you all can access to it... i dont know if it is my ip or
whatever, or router.

I guess i will try library tomorrow to see.
Thanks in advance all.

Maybe your ISP is blocking the openmailbox.org server? See if you're able to

Re: [Trisquel-users] F-Droid Appstore criticizes application for using non-free network service

2014-12-09 Thread davesamcdxv

1) I don't know non-free network either
2) They use non-free software on their servers, it's not really a deal
breaker (otherwise itwouldn't appear in F-droid), but I don't mind a big
warning sign. F-droid feels that it's worth noting, and they've got the right
to.

What they rather shouldn't do (which they don't) is unaccedentally excluding
Telegram from their repos on the basis of that, in my opinion.

So all is well.

I tried Installing Ubuntu Studio's metapackage, and as expected some

However, Ubuntu's and LyX's fonts were. Removing LyX's font (because of its

of possible liensing issues, and since my life doesn't depend on it...)from
the list of packages to be installed leaves me with:
