That's great. I was waiting for when they would publish the videos so I won't have to watch the unedited streamdumps.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542X Wireless
I will give it a shot, but I don't think it's quite the same problem. I don't see any access points/routers no matter where I am with the laptop (I took it to work too to give it a try.)...

Un forum italiano sarebbe interessante, io mi tengo aggiornato su quello in inglese ma in effetti molte cose mi sfuggono :-)
[Trisquel-users] Mic won't work for voice chat - running Trisquel 6 on Acer Aspire One
He mihi mahana ki a koutou Warm greetings to you all New to the forums, but been using Trisquel 6.0 for a couple of years, on an Acer Aspire One mini-laptop (Atom N270 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive) which I bought new about 5 years ago. Had a couple of strange little bugs but mostly it works well. I'm running it One persistent nuisance though is that my built-in mic won't work with any voice chat software. It works in Sound Recorder, so I know the mic hardware is fine, and Trisquel is capable of supporting it, but it doesn't work with Skype, Hangouts, Mumble, any of the WebRTC demos I've tried, or Subrosa (*not* endorsing Skype or Hangouts just mentioning that I've tried them). I've asked Dr DuckDuckGo, but nobody else seems to have this issue, or I'm not using the right keywords. Any suggestions?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542X Wireless
I see. Try searching on the net, although it is somehow a difficult and rare issue to search on, being that opensourcerers just install non-libre drivers and solve their issues by putting proprietary code into their boxes..
Re: [Trisquel-users] Mic won't work for voice chat - running Trisquel 6 on Acer Aspire One
I did a search. There are several posts dealing with Bubbuntu and acer one (not your exact model but they're all very similar I guess). Here are the links I found. I didn't read them (just the first one). I have no idea if they suggest installing some proprietary driver. If they do.. don't!! And don't try skype! skype is spying on its users and selling their data. That is at least what I've read on several websites, and being proprietary software and owned by microshit it wouldn't surprise me if it was so, or better yet, I really think it does so! Proprietary software is very bad for several other reasons. I hope those links can give you an idea and point you in the right direction! http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1971229 https://askubuntu.com/questions/131170/how-to-get-microphone-to-work-on-acer-aspire-one-722 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2HYyRgue_8 https://askubuntu.com/questions/264505/install-acer-aspire-one-zg5-microphone-on-ubuntu-12-10 https://askubuntu.com/questions/23036/microphone-not-working-at-all-in-skype http://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/Microphone-input-does-not-work-with-Ubuntu-12-04-LXLE-on-Acer/td-p/3240666 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/940841 https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/mic-issue-with-acer-aspire-one-10-in-ubuntu-unr-729158/

[Trisquel-users] Re : No GUI and Backup Home through Terminal
*You* wrote your disk was mounted at /computer/media/user/TOSHIBA (where, I assumed, user was to be substituted by your login)! Anyway, plug your external hard drive (and no other removable device) and type cp -a /home/* /computer/media/ followed by some tabs until it does not give give you a longer line (the command interpreter autocompletes your command). Then press the enter key. The command will then copy the home directories of all users of the system to the root of your external hard drive. That can take hours.
Re: [Trisquel-users] No GUI and Backup Home through Terminal
Try cp -r /home/user/ /media/user/TOSHIBA
Re: [Trisquel-users] Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542X Wireless
I get 'No scan results' upon doing that command Chris. Not sure what's going on... Also, not sure if I mentioned it. If I set the SSID manually, that doesn't work either.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542X Wireless
I'm not sure where the problem lies, but the chipset isn't as well supported as newer atheros chipsets.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542X Wireless
I did find something about madwifi drivers, but are they proprietary or are they just all together irrelevant?

Technically ConnochaetOS was examined in great detail and it was confirmed that is meets all requirements of the Free System Distribution Guideline. Did the FSF provide you with this information? Re: [Trisquel-users] A new ConnochaetOS release
Henry, it seems the FSF's complaint was not that someone in the forum used Open source (which is simply not punishable, if you like the term). It was that, according to them, you used the works open source to describe the project yourself (inadvertantly or otherwise, of course). If you don't call yourself open source (or at least not do so without explaining the diferences between what open source and free software mean, and perhaps the similarities as well) and re-apply, things should work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A new ConnochaetOS release
I'm still not clear why your GNU/Linux distribution wasn't accepted to the list of Free Software Distributions, but please stop telling people the rejection was due to someone spotted that one of the users used the term 'open source' in the forum or in the wiki. That appears not to be the case at all. Exactly. While there was some initial concern over the wording, RMS quickly put the kibosh on that as shown in the mailing list archives. And even though I had said it wasn't an issue (see https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/gnu-linux-libre/2012-01/msg7.html) Henry brought it up again in a reply to that very message (see https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/gnu-linux-libre/2012-01/msg8.html which even quotes that part of the message) and continued discussing it as if it were. I'm not sure why. That he continues to this day to present it to the public that this was the reason nothing happened seems troublesome because the mailing list archives clearly show that, while there had been some initial concerns over the wording it was in the end determined that it was not -- repeat not -- an issue. From my perspective, ConnochaetOS completed the community review process which is the only part of the endorsement process that the gnu-linux-libre mailing list is involved in - making sure that the distro actually is a feasible candidate, which I did and posted my results in the message I've linked to. The FSF staff are supposed to take it from there. If nothing else happened after that, it is best to follow up directly with the FSF staff for further information.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A new ConnochaetOS release
After reading that thread it seems to me that the true reason was not having community guidelines that said something like Avoid certain misnomers and propaganda terms. But you now have rules on the forum[1], so if you add the no misnomers and propaganda terms thing, they will endorse Connochaet for sure. By the way, I find weird that they started some kind of free software vs open source instead of telling you what should you do to fix it and get the endorsement. If this happens again just ask them what should you do. I'm saying this because I obviously want ConnochaetOS being endorse by the FSF. Why? Because the free GNU/Linux distributions list don't have any distro based on Slackware (which is a great distro)and ConnochaetOS has a lot of potential, so I can only think that ConnochaetOS will be make an excelent addition to the Free GNU/Linux distributions list.
