The cryptomount commands booted just fine and I am running Debian by now.

In your guide you write: "See here for instructions, rather straightforward:

"Rather straightforward" probably depends on one's knowledge and skills. Does
this mean, that if I don't have such file, I should just create one
containing those specific commands, by use of e.g. gedit?

You really make me want to try with Trisquel again (thanks), but I have spend
so much time on this. I just want it to work now, so I'll stick to Debian for
the moments,

The cutoff version of Flash Gnash tends to be compatible with is 8. I'm not
entirely sure, but I think the main thing holding Gnash back is not having
ActionScript 3 support.

don't feel embarrassed, if porn is indeed what you need it for... that will
only keep you trapped in desiring such things.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnash Won't Play Certain Flash Content

If it's porn, go to a different porn site. You'll find one that works without
Flash. Heck, there's a Greasemonkey script called "ViewTubePlus" (not to be
confused with "ViewTube+") designed for porn sites, and it works with dozens
of them.

I can't imagine anything else you could be embarrassed about watching.

I don't need flash for youtube. I'm embarrased to say what I need it for. But
Midori with Gnash extension won't play it.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnash Won't Play Certain Flash Content

What do you need Flash for? Pretty much every use of Flash has an HTML
fallback these days. That includes YouTube, which hasn't required Flash in
years.

> 1080p htlm5 video on Youtube (Midori will only play 720p)

YouTube doesn't distribute 1080p as a single video file anymore; instead it
distributes the video and audio separately and depends on some JavaScript
code to mux the pieces together, and this requires support for Media Source
Extensions. Firefox and variants of it such as Abrowser can handle this just
fine AFAIK.

[Trisquel-users] Gnash Won't Play Certain Flash Content

Gnash won't play certain flash content that I want to watch.

I installed lightspark and browser-plugin-lightspark.

But lightspark doesn't appear in the Midori list of extensions.

Midori is the default browser in Trisquel-mini which is why I'm trying to use
it but I think I'd rather use a different browser.

Which freedom browsers will lightspark work with automatically as a plugin /
extension? I'd like one that will play 1080p htlm5 video on Youtube (Midori
will only play 720p)

Thanks.

If when I reboot I press F10 which takes me to the boot menu then select
Trisquel (the only option), I get the grub menu. Select Trisquel from there
and it boots successfully. I can live with that.

Well, can you try maybe the full version of Trisquel, the 1.5 gb ISO with
gnome-flashback? I used it on an intel atom with 1 Gb of RAM for some time
and it used to work splendidly. Maybe try that and see.

Definitely don't reflash (you don't have to).

I just remembered how these instructions lacked clarity sometimes, so here's
something better:
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/shorter-and-thorough-guide-updating-libreboot-x200

See #3, but before modifying GRUB, make sure you can manually boot with those
same commands. Else it's pointless.
So allow me to insist: did you manage to boot with those cryptomount
commands?

For Trisquel, the truth is I didn't flash Libreboot, it was already done. I
updated it twice though.

The gigantic problem I've faced is documented here:

[Trisquel-users] Unable to Reboot After Upgrade

2016-11-07 Thread myway . 1

Hello,

I have installed Trisquel-mini on my Intel Compute Stick. It has an Intel
Atom z3735f processor with Intel HD graphics and UEFI boot. I created the
live USB on a windows computer using rufus and specifying UEFI boot. I
installed from that live USB

I rebooted after the install with no problem.

I attempted to use the "Software Updater" but it failed, so I did apt-get
update and apt-get upgrade.

I then tried to reboot but was unsuccessful. I did not get any of the typical
boot / startup processes scrolling across the screen. Instead it went
straight to the desktop wallpaper, then the screen went blank. I turned the
computer off, turned it back on and the same thing happened.

I reinstalled Trisquel-mini and rebooted with no problem, this time did
apt-get dist-upgrade but again was unable to reboot.

Could it be because of the UEFI boot process? This PC does not offer legacy
boot.

Re: [Trisquel-users] No grub file

2016-11-07 Thread jbahn

From https://libreboot.org/docs/gnulinux/grub_cbfs.html, 1st option says:

---
1st option: don't re-flash

By default, GRUB in libreboot is configured to scan all partitions on the
main storage for /boot/grub/libreboot_grub.cfg or
/grub/libreboot_grub.cfg(for systems where /boot is on a dedicated
partition), and then use it automatically.

Simply create your custom GRUB configuration and save it to
/boot/grub/libreboot_grub.cfg on the running system. The next time you boot,
GRUB (in libreboot) will automatically switch to this configuration file.
This means that you do not have to re-flash, recompile or otherwise modify
libreboot at all!

Ideally, your distribution should automatically generate a libreboot_grub.cfg
file that is written specifically under the assumption that it will be read
and used on a libreboot system that uses GRUB as a payload. If your
distribution does not do this, then you can try to add that feature yourself
or politely ask someone involved with or otherwise knowledgeable about the
distribution to do it for you. The libreboot_grub.cfg could either contain
the full configuration, or it could chainload another GRUB ELF executable
(built to be used as a coreboot payload) that is located in a partition on
the main storage.

If you want to adapt a copy of the existing libreboot GRUB configuration and
use that for the libreboot_grub.cfg file, then follow #tools, #rom and
#extract_testconfig to get the grubtest.cfg. Rename grubtest.cfg to
libreboot_grub.cfg and save it to /boot/grub/ on the running system where it
is intended to be used. Modify the file at that location however you see fit,
and then stop reading this guide (the rest of this page is irrelevant to
you); in libreboot_grub.cfg on disk, if you are adapting it based on grub.cfg
from CBFS then remove the check for libreboot_grub.cfg otherwise it will
loop..

---

Am I wrong to understand, that I should find the grub.cfg file and modify it?

Are you suggesting to go with the 2nd option?

When installing Trisquel, did you encounter any problems which you know how
you came about?

Re: [Trisquel-users] No grub file

 Modify grub.cfg (CBFS)

Now you need to set it up so that the system will automatically boot, without
having to type a bunch of commands.

Modify your grub.cfg (in the firmware) using this tutorial
(https://libreboot.org/docs/gnulinux/grub_cbfs.html)

https://libreboot.org/docs/gnulinux/encrypted_debian.html

the GRUB configuration file (where your GRUB menu comes from) is stored
directly alongside libreboot and its GRUB payload executable, inside the
flash chip.

Trisquel on Librebooted X200 worked just fine for me, by the way.

Can you mount your HDD with the suggested commands ? (cryptomount etc.)

[Trisquel-users] No grub file

2016-11-07 Thread jbahn
Disclaimer: This question is about Debian. I have unsuccessfully tried to
install Trisquel on my Libreboot x200. I have so far succeeded to install
Debian - I hope to be able to install Trisquel 8, when it's here.

As said, I have successfully installed Debian. Libreboot searches for a
libreboot_grub.cfg which should be created (renamed and/or modified) from
grub.cfg. But I can't fin any grub.cfg file. It's not in /boot /boot/grub
/etc/default/grub or where ever I have searched.

Running "update-grub" in terminal gives me "command not found" response and
sudo'ing gives the response "[username] is not sudoersfile (translated from
Danish: [username] er ikke sudoersfilen.)

If I understand correctly, this means that I don't have access as superuser.
That on earth do I do about that?

Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?

2016-11-07 Thread mcz
I really like the idea of having only 3 addons installed (though it seems it
demands knowing how to configure them, as far as I know, which isn't far). It
seems it would cover 99% of the needed protection if properly configured
(What are those 1%? No idea yet).

OTOH, let's say I mainly use TORBB, and Abrowser with those three addons for
video and anything too heavy for TORBB.
I'm thinking of having a third browser which would be enabling JS, thus
enabling a lot more addons to compensate would make sense, like:

- Self-destructing cookies
- Privacy Badger or Disconnect (seems they do the same stuff)
- Refferrer control
- Request Policy or equivalent (Umatrix, Policeman)
- Decentraleyes
- Random agent spoofer

Maybe some of these overlap, maybe more are needed, I need to do some
research.

[Trisquel-users] Re : Locked out of Admin log in

2016-11-07 Thread lcerf
The username and the password you are referring to are GRUB's. The username
is "grub" but you do not know the password. Trisquel's installer randomly
generated it. Well, you can read it if you have administrative permissions
(but you do not know the password of the only administrative user) or from a
Live system (what clearly shows that GRUB's password is no security). You can
also use the Live system to directly give the administrative user a new
password. That is what I suggested you in
https://trisquel.info/forum/locked-out-admin-log#comment-105213

Do it. I can then help you with removing GRUB's password. The "e" key that
other users have suggested you to use presupposes you removed GRUB's password
(or that you know it). It is to be pressed on an entry of the "Advanced
options", that you currently cannot access.
