Re: [Trisquel-users] Asus KFSN4-DRE: no Wi-Fi nor sound
I pretty much did all the checks I could find, but I still have issues with alsa. I'll try to set up my external soundcard as the default one and hope for the best.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 is not old
I thought it was older! But I need other system for some needs...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Evolution RSS Reader Plugin
Yeah, this is becoming more trouble than it's worth. At least now I kind of know how to build packages, though.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flatpak on Trisquel 7
This is a tad irrelevant now but the reason flatpak couldn't be installed is because in that PPA it's not available for Ubuntu trusty (upon which Trisquel 7 is based)
[Trisquel-users] Re : Trisquel 7 is not old
Thanks Wiliam ;-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 is not old
Completely agree! :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Asus KFSN4-DRE: no Wi-Fi nor sound
Super odd: in Audacious, instead of default pcm in the parameters, I selected one of the lines named after my external soundcard and I got sound output. Now I restart qjackctl, and it doesn't fail. I don't understand. In alsamixer, I have no levels of volumes displayed, and I can't mute any channel. Next, I close Audacious, open it again and it fails. I suppose I need to configure default_pcm.
[Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 is not old
Hello Everybody I just wanted to say that Trisquel 7.0 is based off Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and while it is 3 years old. It is still supported until 2019-04. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_(operating_system)#Releases
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : trisquel 6
Additionally, for GNU Ring, there is a test package that you can use in your current copy of Trisquel 7, by installing GNU Guix package manager ([[https://www.gnu.org/software/guix/]]), and then installing the test package. It's not officially in the GNU Guix repositories due to overuse of patching by GNU Ring project. As of 2017-07-29, the latest version of the test package can be found here: [[https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2017-06/msg00120.html]]. Also be aware that you will have to deal with the ${XDG_DATA_DIRS} variable in a special way (slightly different to what GNU Guix would suggest you to do when installing the packages): [[https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2017-03/msg00755.html]]. - Pretende me enviar arquivos .doc, .ppt, .cdr, ou .mp3? OK, eu aceito, mas não repasso. Re: [Trisquel-users] Asus KFSN4-DRE: no Wi-Fi nor sound
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/TP-LINK_TL-WN722N I bought the wrong version. Version 2 isn't using Atheros.
[Trisquel-users] Re : trisquel 6
Youre welcome ;-) It is much easier, better for your privacy & more secure to install software on Trisquel than on Windows or any other proprietary https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-software-installation-trisquel-different-windows Synpatic Package Manager is a great tool that serves to search install, remove, update, repair broken packages from Trisquel's repositary. Trisquel is dedicated to beginners.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Asus KFSN4-DRE: no Wi-Fi nor sound
Nevermind, the interfaces are not in /etc/network/interfaces. Minimal install is a bit too minimal sometimes. As for the sound, no idea.
[Trisquel-users] Asus KFSN4-DRE: no Wi-Fi nor sound
I know it's a server board, but I don't understand why my external Wi-Fi key isn't recognised with Wicd or sudo ifconfig (supposedly supported, a TP-LINK WN722N, Atheros version). Ethernet works, but I don't see it in sudo ifconfig either?? As for the sound, in qjackctl I have a "system" device listed on a working PC, but here there's nothing. My external USB soundcard is listed in alsamixer though.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Encrypting files on Trisquel
gpg is way more secure if you have ecc as an option especially... probably more secure even without it though. Trisquel 8 no doubt has ecc (use curve 25519 if possible)
Re: [Trisquel-users] I noticed that trisquel beta is out.
Hmm but then why did you edit it? just out of curiosity? xD

Ah, I looked at the page you spoke of which brings you to here: http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso/iso/
Re: [Trisquel-users] trisquel 6
The problem is that my brain was used to getting things easy. Probably they wanted to keep things easy for the user, so that he doesn't ask questions about software that he install on his machine. This is I believe Windows, mac, Ubuntu's philosophy. Keep it simple for the user and as hidden as possible. I've tried to discuss these things with people around me and my conclusion was that they don't care about their freedom. They just want things to work and this is what others exploit. If the Free Software Foundation were able to produce an alternative that is easy to use and also 100% free then the impact would be different. I am trying to follow FSF's advice and try to contribute to existing projects but will be a long process for me because I lack a lot of knowledge at this point. Thanks again for all your pointers, time and explanations!

Knowing that you are doing the right thing is always a good feeling. >How heavy is the burden Only thing I miss, and I'm very honest here, is some of the proprietary games I used to play. All the rest I can do on my system as I did before, only better, much better. >What things I need to understand in order to be 100% free ? Not much at all. You need a libre distro by default and you need to make sure you check the license of any software (addons, plugins, drivers, firmware included) you install outside of your distro's repository. This page is very useful -> https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#SoftwareLicenses >One of the things I've discovered as a freedom trainee was that it is not very easy to be free Unless your job requires you to use nonfree software (unfortunately this happens quite often), it is actually very easy **provided you really care**. Have fun!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Evolution RSS Reader Plugin
Good progress! :) Sorry to hear about the error :/ You can try another client maybe and see if you like it.
