[Trisquel-users] An issue about the Wiki-documentation
Hello, world and everyone here! It's my first topic. I don't sure that should I submit this on the "Issue" page, so I put it here. I've improved this page: https://trisquel.info/wiki/Writing_Japanese It seems should be named as "Write in non-Latin languages". But I can't change the title. And, on two pages: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/all-manuals https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/language-and-accessibility Two links point to the page I've edited and a repeated one. It should be removed: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/writing-non-latin-languages About me, I come from China, and I've used Trisquel for several years.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Any libre + uncensored 18+ tubes or forums?
Yes, that's why I suspect it came from the mailing list.
Re: [Trisquel-users] uruk gnu/linux 2.0
I used Startup Disk Creator. DD seems to work better, but I wanted to see if SDC worked as well, which it does. With Trisquel 7, Trisquel 8, and Uruk, my ThinkPad X60 has had trouble making it through the installation without freezing when I use the graphical installer. It may have something to do with overheating, as the fan is always on high when it happens. Trisquel has a text installer that works much better. However, it only took a few tries to make it through the Uruk installation. I didn't do anything differently the last time. My machine doesn't have UEFI, so I don't know if that would make a difference. Trisquel 8 doesn't have firmware-ath9k-htc packaged yet, so Uruk doesn't either. You can build it or install via the deb file from https://packages.debian.org/sid/firmware-ath9k-htc If you don't have access to ethernet, you could download the source or deb file on another computer and transfer it over.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8... where are you?
IrishUSA, I've been lurking for sometime now...but I couldn't resist suggesting a name. How about "Purish"?
Re: [Trisquel-users] uruk gnu/linux 2.0
Glad to hear the quick review; here's my first impression: I started the live system, made using the DD command and a USB drive. Screen reader and music cme up as expected; this is what I wanted. Mate desktop, menus, and control center work nicely. My Think Penguin USB wifi adaptor is not recognized, and I cannot connect, yet, lsusb shows it to be present. I have not yet tried a wired connection. Your observation that installation took many attempts gives me pause re: installing onto a machine having UEFI. What did you do, in the final attempt, that resulted in a working system?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8... where are you?
To search packages related to guile, open a terminal and type this: apt-cache search guile You will see a list of packages matching your search. To get information about one specific package, for example 'guile-2.0', run apt-cache policy guile-2.0 And you will get the version available and the version you have, if any, installed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Any libre + uncensored 18+ tubes or forums?
This is best practice for those of us who are speechless :-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
For systemd: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SystemdForUpstartUsers
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8... where are you?
You could search in synaptic or make a 'apt-get list ' search in the terminal
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
You can get easily the missing packages from the ubuntu xenial repos.. gnome did work for me, i use lxqt atm. Lxde worked for me as well ;) I made a fresh clean install, because i couldnt fix the gpg problem but maybe someone else knows how to do so...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
I'm hoping that the upgrade would have removed Upstart and installed Systemd, but if not then that might be behind some of the booting confusion. I actually didn't bother with apt-get upgrade and went straight for dist-upgrade and it seems to have removed some packages that weren't present in the Flidas repos. I think one of the ones that had issues was 'gnome-session', which sounds like it might fairly important. So, how do I fix the issue with the gpg keys? Do I need to download a new key file from somewhere for Flidas?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8... where are you?
how to see the package versions?? i want know the gnu guile version would have, sorry i'm beginner user
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
No, unfortunately not. I really want to use LXDE, so if it's got broken dependencies then I'll have to figure out how to fix those packages ;-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
> I installed the full version and then changed to LXDE from Gnome LXDE doesn't work in Trisquel 8 yet. It still has some missing/broken dependencies. Did you have any other DEs or WMs installed alongside LXDE?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
I installed Trisquel 8 nearly the same way... I took a trsquel7 mini install and updated it until it got the new gpg keys from 2017.. After updating i changed the sources.list to flidas and had therefor no gpg errors... Then i had to only switch to systemd, because upstart wasnt working properly anymore.. There might be some packages which arent in flidas/xenial which you can uninstall, but besides that everything worked for me fine this way!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Using VPN and Trisquel
Thank you all! If you have VOIP phone, then I guess you can't use the VOIP phone connection and the VPN connection at the same time. I've seen ads for the Think Penguin VPN mini-router - can you use the mini-router and the normal internet connectien (for VOIP phone use) at the same time?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
Interesting indeed... If it would be possible to change the preferred company. ;) Or better yet, have a direct email or phone with which one could talk to the web design department of that company... and keep calling them at least once a month. ;) So far I managed to get 3 out of 10 companies understand my message, and I'm not the only person who benefits from this, it's everyone else who happens to be a client of that company. ;) 2017-12-06T10:38:20-0600 Caleb Herbert wrote: > It's nice that your parents are using GNU+Linux. It's nice that your parents are using GNU+Linux. My mom doesn't like using GNU+Linux, because she only uses PCs for doing stuff that her tablet and phone can't, which is usually accessing some company's website that requires Flash or something for its sign-up forms. -- Caleb Herbert OpenPGP public key: http://bluehome.net/csh/pubkey signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Re: [Trisquel-users] Any libre + uncensored 18+ tubes or forums?
While this is true, it may be wise to cautiously avoid writing it in the title and acting like it's an official, legal thing. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Re: [Trisquel-users] uruk gnu/linux 2.0
I've had a chance to try some of the features that are supposed to be different from Trisquel. (1) mate configuration and control center The default mate configuration is indeed better than Trisquel's. WIN launches a menu with items grouped into "system," "places," and "applications", plus a search bar that can launch applications. Uruk Control Center looks nice and is intuitive. (2) package manager simulator Runningsudo pacman -S icecatinstalled IceCat as expected, so that feature works, although I don't see a use for it. (3) installing from source Tested with this.u-src youtube-viewer-3.3.1.tar.gzgets stuck atchmod: cannot access 'configure': No such file or directory sudo: ./configure: command not found make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. make: *** No rule to make target 'install'. Stop. /usr/bin/u-src: 14: cd: can't cd to pwd rm: cannot remove 'youtube-viewer-3.3.1': No such file or directory (4) guix installer Did not work, as described in my previous comment. (5) being finished I'm not sure how Uruk 2 can be considered out of beta, or even out of alpha, when it has all of the same missing and broken packages as Trisquel 8 alpha.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Upgrading to Trisquel 8
Most of the packages seemed to install just fine, although a handful had dependency issues. The system isn't currently booting up, so one or two of those must be critical. I'll have a look at those broken packages and see if there is anything I can do.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Any libre + uncensored 18+ tubes or forums?
'any porn sites working without js? Appropriate. 'any libre uncensored 10+ tubes?' Highly inappropriate. Anyway, most PC stores receive laptops to backup format and reinstall because the user watch porn and got infected by viruses. However that is hardly any worry for a GNU/Linux user, since most malware will target Windows and not other systems. Apart from that, not using JS and maybe using Tor will be enough. TBB with security settings in like... medium will be enough for 99% of the websites.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
Wish I could have one of those. The Apple design with more freedom than I have in my current laptop, very nice indeed :) Though I live my laptop design anyway so :P To answer the OP yes I run Trisquel and even had my parents move their computers to Trisquel too (one of them is still running Debian anyway, but Main repo only).
Re: [Trisquel-users] trisquel 8
Thanks. It's good to know that even if work on Trisquel stopped right now, we would have a Free OS for another couple years with security updates (by that time I hope some other solution would already be present). I am using T7 however I did install some packages from the original developers sites (using PPA or deb files, I don't usually build from source) to get the latest version when necessary. With T8 I would be fine for years to come. However I hope we get a stable release soon (at least before it becomes outdated itself lol).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
I've been using Trisquel 7 for 2 years now and now have installed Trisquel 8 for several months and have had almost no issues with it. I do all types of coding and media work on it and it does the job for me.
