Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram/Tray (Mate Panel) Bug
What about Wire? Anybody know anything bad about Wire?:)
Re: [Trisquel-users] No suspend or hibernate options in GnomeShell
May I ask why you prefer hibernate over suspend?:)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Unity desktop broken in Fildas
It's been quite awhile and my test VM hasn't gotten an update to fix it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram/Tray (Mate Panel) Bug
Yes, I didn't mention proprietary dependency, because I didn't want to seem too obstinate and that was a mistake. Great that you did it :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser recommended privacy/security extension
>user.js and firejail I think they are too much for my taste I'm not sure what you mean by taste, but they are both 'set and forget'. It would take you half an hour to set it, even less to forget it. On the other hand the benefits last indefinitely. cheers and push da limit o/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need help with GPG/Enigmail/Torbirdy
I currently use the host of my website, but eventually plan to self-host and run my own mail server. If you're looking for an alternative to Screwgle, posteo.de seems like a good option. It's not gratis, but if you can afford the 1 Euro/month paying with money is better than paying with your privacy. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] No suspend or hibernate options in GnomeShell
If you're still having this issue, try editing your power preferences with dconf-editor instead of gnome-tweak-tool and see if they have an effect. The power settings in dconf-editor are under org -> gnome -> settings-daemon -> plugins -> power. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram/Tray (Mate Panel) Bug
Although Signal is free software, it cannot be built without Google Play Services. So you are "free" to modify it, but only if you are willing to use proprietary software to do so. It might still be preferable to Telegram, however. See: https://forum.f-droid.org/t/signal-discussion-about-google-play-alternative/95/8 https://whispersystems.discoursehosting.net/t/how-to-get-signal-apks-outside-of-the-google-play-store/808 signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram/Tray (Mate Panel) Bug
Oh, I believe I have read about Signal somewhen in my past. Anyway, I did it now and it looks way better than Telegram. It's great that their server side software is free. I understand you :) Well, I may not be the best friend or something just goes wrong in this life period. Hmm, I stay alone. I hope this is just a summertime sadness and it will not last for too long. I used to chat with my friends using Jabber/XMPP. I helped them to install Conversations on their mobile devices. I am divided with most of them by kilometres and I guess this causes problems: misunderstanding and things like that. I also use Ring and I used to chat over it with one of my friends :) I realized one thing: all of them feel themselves extremely comfortable with Instagram and VK.. And they will choose it over sending an email or even XMPP. Well, my soul will always be connected with Jabber - this is a technology with which my college love has started. And I also used it to exchange messages with someone in another city. This is a long story of love as well. Of course, I ** up everything, and now she will never write to me. But if I were using VK, she would. This is strange. Well, yes Signal seems to be a good replacement :) I wish you the best too!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser recommended privacy/security extension
Umatrix is more complicated no doubt, but I think you should look up what noscript actually is. Noscript has a crap ton of security protections, and moreover, it is usually a script blocker. You should if nothing else, use it in that mode. It really is a recommended security addon.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser recommended privacy/security extension
Isn't umatrix the advanced version of noscript? Should be redundant if I make rules per site (uscript) and not globally (noscript) Kind regards
Re: [Trisquel-users] SSH known_hosts was already filled
Ahh just as I posted this question, I realized that the entries are from the server I connect to. Stupid me ^^
[Trisquel-users] SSH known_hosts was already filled
Hello! I was playing with SSH today and then I noticed that my known_host file in ~/.ssh had already 3 entries. I can't remember when I put them there and which one would be the known hosts for me. Has anyone an idea should anything be there per default or how could something land there? P.S. There are also the files id_rsa and id_rsa.pub but there is an option that I created them (which I also can't remember). Kind Regards
Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram/Tray (Mate Panel) Bug
@nickeylodeon Thanks for the new insights, I didn't think about Pavel being a Russian Gov. player. But that explains why the Russian Gov. was only afraid of Telegramto make it more popular. It was not easy for me to switch to Telegram, had to install a lot of clients to my close friends. So what is the alternative? Signal? Kind Regards
Re: [Trisquel-users] Right click secure delete in Trisquel 8
Also the software I posted above seems to not give any output indicating when it is done, it kinda crashes caja...
[Trisquel-users] Right click secure delete in Trisquel 8
Hey everyone, So in Trisquel 7 (with gnome and nautilus) I used to have the right click giving the option to wipe a file, which was the nautilus secure-delete integration. Now in T8 I don't see that I have anyway of doing it, because caja has a lot less integrated stuff compared to nautilus. Another example is the lack of gpg integration (I used to just right click and select verify or decrypt, T8 has none of that). Has anyone solved it? I found this https://github.com/Fred-Barclay/Caja-Wipe but would prefer not to have to search for additional software on the web everytime I want to have a right click doing something. Yes, I know one could write scripts to do it, but I am looking for a package that adds all the nautilus integration to caja.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Telegram/Tray (Mate Panel) Bug
Yes, this is true. Their client program for GNU/Linux though seems to be libre (I am not sure). Their client for an Android operating system does contain binary blobs and makes a use of things like Google Play Services and HockeySDK, as described here: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.telegram.messenger/ This is a libereted fork that can be downloaded using F-Droid, but I personally see no reason to install it either. Here, in Russia, I saw their dirty business game. It is awful! They played that game with roskomnadzor and became more popular over users, who erroneously believe that Telegram defends their freedom and privacy. No one should trust this company built by creators of VK - the biggest surveillance engine in Russia. They say that their servers are located in different places. This is not how federation works. How does it matter, if all of them are controlled by one company? Facebook surely has a lot of server farms around the globe too.. All in all, community doesn't have Telegram. Telegram does have community. This is a good example of open-source politics. They only need it to be bug-free and popular.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Unable to update the kernel
Hm, I see. But do I understand it correctly that packaging update and repository update are two separate matters?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree's Libreboot laptops now come with Trisquel 8.
Is there a powertop script for Trisquel 8 available somewhere yet? I found a mention of powertop.debian on https://libreboot.org/docs/misc/index.html and was actually able to download powertop.trisquel7 as part of the latest libreboot archive but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work well in Trisquel 8. Thanks.
Re: [Trisquel-users] GNOME Shell on Trisquel 8
Thanks for the documentation. Could you be interested in checking / mentioning this point? https://trisquel.info/en/forum/cant-access-virtual-consoles
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why qre Minifree's Libreboot X200 laptop threads all locked?
Alright thanks for the detailed answer. I believe there might be a problem with the edit buttons. At least, I don't experience this behavior. No big deal though. I was just curious. As for the locked thread I was frustrating about, I won't need to ask a admin to revert the auto-lock because I found a more relevant one that is still open. Good to know we have this option though.
