Re: [Trisquel-users] free software to remove DRM from Adobe ACSM format

2018-08-06 Thread onpon4
Any program designed to break DRM is illegal, so as a general rule, breaking
DRM is not easy. The one exception I can think of is CSS (used for encrypting
DVDs), but that's just because the encryption is so weak that it can be
brute-forced very easily (so despite the illegality of it, all kinds of
programs designed to break CSS exist; libdvdcss is just the most commonly
used).

I totally agree with you. I remember using guis like unetbootin at some
point, I also used rufus and some other stuff. Since I learned how to use dd,
that's all I need to know.

dd:
* Fast
* Reliable
* alway works

GUIs:
* Have to install
* Not always stable
* Unexpected management of your usb stick
* They work weird with specific distros

2018-08-06 Thread enduzzer

I used trial and error.

You could use rEFInd or wipe the whole disk, then install Trisquel or another
distro.

MacOS Diskutility can be used to diminish the partition and create a new one
alongside.

You don't need rEFInd if you never dualboot or if you choose the loader each
time manually (option/alt @ boot).

dd is amazing and no one should ever need more.

I am considering installing Ubuntu 18.04.1 alongside macOS El Capitan. Did
you follow a particular guide for installing Ubuntu on the MBA?

Also, when booting Ubuntu via a live USB, before it reaches the Ubuntu splash
screen, I get the following error (which does go away):

Couldn't get size: 0x800e
MODSIGN: Couldn't get UEFI db list
Couldn't get size: 0x800e
Couldn't get size: 0x800e

From what I read online, it seems to be related to the kernel. The forum
posts are a year old, and the kernel has been updated from the version they
are referring to, but the issue seems to remain. What do you think, and have
you experienced it?

If you were basing your instructions on the relevant Trisquel manual, which
it seems that you were, it's not your fault; rather, the manual's
instructions were lacking.

I'm using a "SLS Fukkokuban Sega Saturn USB Control Pad", identical to the
good old SS pad. Works 100% with GanooLinux. No special driver / firmware
needed, no bullshit.

I mainly use it for retro-gaming with mednafen

OK, so I did a quick test, and it seems it works with buttons, but for some
reason not axes (analog sticks). That's odd. In fact no mouse buttons seem to
work for axes. Judging by what the dialog box says, this seems to be a design
flaw or oversight rather than a bug, per se.

Actually, I think I remember this problem, come to think of it.

Perhaps one solution could be to assign the axis control you want to put on a
mouse button to a keyboard control that does the same thing (e.g. arrow keys
for scrolling).

Of course, since it's libre software, the other solution would be to edit the
source code to patch this shortcoming.

Doesn't work :/

Yes, you can. Assign a "key", and when it tells you to press the key, hover
the mouse over the box and roll the mouse wheel in the desired direction.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?

2018-08-06 Thread svenerik_vn
The reason why I thought first it was not working was because I had to
minimize the program for it to work. For some reason it doesn't work when the
program is either open nor closed, only minimized . But it's working, and
it's gold! Thanks! :D

Anyway, do you know if it's possible to set some of the buttons or sticks to
mimic mouse scrolling?

Did you just not see it in the system tray when you ran it at first?

It seems like there are several other things one needs to have in order to
get qjoypad to work. One of which is Xwindows which seems rather complicated
to install. Or in other words, it seems as though one has to build it.

Am I misunderstanding something?

Hi uboot,

The output of that command is:

nvramtool: CMOS option table not found in coreboot table. Apparently, the

HAVE_OPTION_TABLE.

I guess the only problem with a Talos computer is the high price XD not to

Of course T420. Better CPU and GPU, up to 16 GiB RAM, up to 3 disk drives,
larger battery...

Now I'm trying to liberate T440p and T540p with Intel's integrated graphics,
the last generation of ThinkPad Classic without Boot Guard.

It's up to you. Both have "issues"

I like the fact IntelME is fully removed on T400, x200 etc.. but I regret not
having microcode update from Intel for this era CPUs.. (I'm not even
mentioning huge stability issue without running latest avaiable microcode
(2010)..)

T420s IntelME can almost be nuked with me_cleaner and there are microcode
update available from Intel (although we don't know what those are
introducing..)
