Re: [Trisquel-users] free software to remove DRM from Adobe ACSM format
Any program designed to break DRM is illegal, so as a general rule, breaking DRM is not easy. The one exception I can think of is CSS (used for encrypting DVDs), but that's just because the encryption is so weak that it can be brute-forced very easily (so despite the illegality of it, all kinds of programs designed to break CSS exist; libdvdcss is just the most commonly used).
Re: [Trisquel-users] UNetbootin Installation
I totally agree with you. I remember using guis like unetbootin at some point, I also used rufus and some other stuff. Since I learned how to use dd, that's all I need to know. dd: * Fast * Reliable * alway works GUIs: * Have to install * Not always stable * Unexpected management of your usb stick * They work weird with specific distros
Re: [Trisquel-users] Getting Trisquel 8 Working on Macs
I used trial and error. You could use rEFInd or wipe the whole disk, then install Trisquel or another distro. MacOS Diskutility can be used to diminish the partition and create a new one alongside. You don't need rEFInd if you never dualboot or if you choose the loader each time manually (option/alt @ boot).
Re: [Trisquel-users] UNetbootin Installation
dd is amazing and no one should ever need more.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Getting Trisquel 8 Working on Macs
I am considering installing Ubuntu 18.04.1 alongside macOS El Capitan. Did you follow a particular guide for installing Ubuntu on the MBA? Also, when booting Ubuntu via a live USB, before it reaches the Ubuntu splash screen, I get the following error (which does go away): Couldn't get size: 0x800e MODSIGN: Couldn't get UEFI db list Couldn't get size: 0x800e Couldn't get size: 0x800e From what I read online, it seems to be related to the kernel. The forum posts are a year old, and the kernel has been updated from the version they are referring to, but the issue seems to remain. What do you think, and have you experienced it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] UNetbootin Installation
If you were basing your instructions on the relevant Trisquel manual, which it seems that you were, it's not your fault; rather, the manual's instructions were lacking.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
I'm using a "SLS Fukkokuban Sega Saturn USB Control Pad", identical to the good old SS pad. Works 100% with GanooLinux. No special driver / firmware needed, no bullshit. I mainly use it for retro-gaming with mednafen
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
I see :) Thank you for all the tips and suggestions, this is wonderful :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
OK, so I did a quick test, and it seems it works with buttons, but for some reason not axes (analog sticks). That's odd. In fact no mouse buttons seem to work for axes. Judging by what the dialog box says, this seems to be a design flaw or oversight rather than a bug, per se. Actually, I think I remember this problem, come to think of it. Perhaps one solution could be to assign the axis control you want to put on a mouse button to a keyboard control that does the same thing (e.g. arrow keys for scrolling). Of course, since it's libre software, the other solution would be to edit the source code to patch this shortcoming.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
Doesn't work :/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
Yes, you can. Assign a "key", and when it tells you to press the key, hover the mouse over the box and roll the mouse wheel in the desired direction.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
The reason why I thought first it was not working was because I had to minimize the program for it to work. For some reason it doesn't work when the program is either open nor closed, only minimized . But it's working, and it's gold! Thanks! :D Anyway, do you know if it's possible to set some of the buttons or sticks to mimic mouse scrolling?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
Good to hear. Did you just not see it in the system tray when you ran it at first?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
Nvm, it's working, it's working! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXwGVXD7qEQ
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
http://qjoypad.sourceforge.net/doc/c64.html It seems like there are several other things one needs to have in order to get qjoypad to work. One of which is Xwindows which seems rather complicated to install. Or in other words, it seems as though one has to build it. Am I misunderstanding something?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gaming console type controller to use on desktop?
> You can make the analog stick to move the mouse by setting axis 1 and axis 2 to "Mouse (Hor.)" and "Mouse (Vert.)" respectively, then ticking "gradient" and turning the mouse speed down to 10 or so. It doesn't seem to work :/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s Libreboot | drivers don't load
Hi Tiberiu, That works just fine, do you know the cause for this issue?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s Libreboot | drivers don't load
Hi uboot, The output of that command is: nvramtool: CMOS option table not found in coreboot table. Apparently, the coreboot installed on this system was built without specifying HAVE_OPTION_TABLE.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s vs T420
ubooy thank you for your answer, I agree, at some point we have to make sure we have a good substitution for hardware this old (hopefully in the long term). I guess the only problem with a Talos computer is the high price XD not to mention the portability issue. Maybe one day get the combo Talos for desktop and EOMA for laptop
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s vs T420
Thank you for your comments. Maybe the T420 is the way to go for now. I didn't know the T440p was still a classic thinkpad.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s Libreboot | drivers don't load
Hi Beformed, Good job flashing a T400s on your own! To have WiFi and Fn keys working, run pm-suspend, close the lid, wait 1 minute, open the lid and enjoy. Happy hacking! Technoethical team
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s vs T420
Of course T420. Better CPU and GPU, up to 16 GiB RAM, up to 3 disk drives, larger battery... Now I'm trying to liberate T440p and T540p with Intel's integrated graphics, the last generation of ThinkPad Classic without Boot Guard.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s vs T420
It's up to you. Both have "issues" I like the fact IntelME is fully removed on T400, x200 etc.. but I regret not having microcode update from Intel for this era CPUs.. (I'm not even mentioning huge stability issue without running latest avaiable microcode (2010)..) T420s IntelME can almost be nuked with me_cleaner and there are microcode update available from Intel (although we don't know what those are introducing..)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Thinkpad T400s Libreboot | drivers don't load
Maybe cmos battery needs to be replaced (below the keyboard) What's the output of : nvramtool -a ?
