Re: [Trisquel-users] Want to remove triskel and synaptic package manager doesn't work
I asked a serious question, is there anything I don't understand?
Re: [Trisquel-users] careful with PPA
The good part about it is that Hand of Thief needs to be given root permissions, so the user must be tricked, instead of gaining root from a security flaw.
Re: [Trisquel-users] GNU-Linux on Wikipedia
Perhaps 'Open Source' advocates would say that Linux isn't getting any credit now, though that would be hypocritical.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Want to remove triskel and synaptic package manager doesn't work
I used the method you suggested, and Triskel/KDE was removed. It is strange that now Synaptic now works after KDE was uninstalled, but not with it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] careful with PPA
Are you talking about me?
Re: [Trisquel-users] careful with PPA
Does Trisquel compile the source code, or mirror the binaries?

Will that command remove those programs even if there are other installed programs require them?

Re: [Trisquel-users] New thinkpenguin laptop
I can't imagine what 32 GB of RAM could be used for. My Mac mini is plenty fast with 2 GB of RAM. (That's all it can address, sadly.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] New thinkpenguin laptop
Here is the model: http://lowendmac.com/2006/mac-mini-early-2006/ I bought it used with 2 GB of RAM, and I upgraded the processor to a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo. The Mac mini has 2 RAM slots, the first one had a 2 GB RAM stick in it, so I tried putting a 512 MB stick in the other slot. When I pressed the power button, it didn't turn on. Removing the added stick solved the problem.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New thinkpenguin laptop
That's strange, because I'm sure it uses DDR2; it has one 2 GB RAM stick. I may have linked to the wrong model.
[Trisquel-users] Want to remove triskel and synaptic package manager doesn't work
I installed triskel and triskel-recommended, now I discover that I don't like KDE, but I can't figure out how to remove it. After I installed KDE, I booted back into GNOME Classic, but now Synaptic package manager doesn't work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] careful with PPA
Distributions like Ubuntu actually do review all packages that are submitted. So, if someone attempts to submit a package with the Hand of Thief trojan, ready to wreck havoc on unsuspecting users machines, they'll catch it and the submitted user will be reported. Where do the packages come from that make up the Trisquel repository?
Re: [Trisquel-users] A libre Courier font saved my rush
How are fonts installed in Trisquel?
Re: [Trisquel-users] A libre Courier font saved my rush
Are these fonts really free? Courier Prime is released under the OFL (Open Font License, which has this in the preamble: The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. (Emphasis added)
Re: [Trisquel-users] A libre Courier font saved my rush
It's strange that that condition is in the license when it is so easily rendered useless.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ebook reader
I've done that with my Nook Simple Touch, but I still don't think it's running fully free software, not even counting the drivers.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Ebook reader
Remember the moral part of software development is on the developers, not the users. The users are the victims of non-free software, but it's not immoral to use it. But it's dangerous. And stupid. Well, usually.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Talks about DRM
GNUser said - As for the word piracy, well, it's better to understand the meaning that the word carries when talking about content, than to make stupid jokes about ships and murders. I (and most people I know) associate the word pirate as pirates on the high seas, even if used in the context of unauthorized distribution. The RIAA, MPAA, and the BSA (Business Software Alliance) intend for this to happen, to smear unathorized distribution. The word piracy must have not changed too much, as there are modern-day pirates on the high seas (plundering ships, killing the crew.)

I don't do what some may call 'piracy', and follow copyright law, but copyright is a bad law, and should be drastically reformed, or abolished altogether. I noticed that you have called unauthorized copying 'stealing', though it is not. See Copying Is Not Theft, from Question Copyright. (Torrent link below) I understand what you mean, though; unauthorized copying is bad in a different way, as it prevents one from making a free version.

I notice that it doesn't look like Trisquel Mini, except for the window borders and the background. LXDE actually seems slower than GNOME Classic, on a 1.4 GHz Pentium M with 1 GB of RAM and a 5400 RPM HDD, so I may switch back to GNOME.
