Try downloading "Compiz Fusion Icon" from the repos. Launch it first. (It is  
in the "accessories" menu) Once launched, it sits next to the clock, and if  
you right-click on it, one of the menus is "Select Window Manager". Hover  
over it, then select Metacity. I'm not sure if it will stay that way, but it  
is an easier way to change it back.
