Re: [Trisquel-users] Please help me with this strange system hang issue!
It's not a software problem. Your problem is on your GPU. What GPU do you have? If it's on chip, put thermal compound after cleaning it. If not, put thermal compound on the GOU card after cleaning it and clean the cooler. If it's on your motherboard you should send it to a place that repair motherboards to check for some problem on the circuitery.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Creating a "How to Remove Windows" article for dual-booted computer systems.
lap4fsf, Hi you I understand you trying to help on this topic but I don't agree with that ways of "unistalling" Windows (or any other system) at all. If your using an SSD it would be OK but yet this is how to do it the hard way. It is preferable to start from the beggining by making the partitions for a new system and then install Trisquel. Of course that would be after making a backup of the files including the conf ones. It would take a lot less time than the hard way and it is safer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Untransparent Bloatware
I haven't mentioned anything related to hostility neither frostility. The trisqueltrollsquad is not a group of users. I have never said such a thing.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Root Partition Filled Up After Upgrade (6 > 7)
I have never said the trisqueltrollsquad are exclusive users because of the useless spammersbegonetool. All replies to an offtopic comment are offtopic. And guess what? I was not the one making the first offtopic comment!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Untransparent Bloatware
complainer ยก= troll The trisqueltrollsquad members seem to have a fixed idea on segregating between either of two kind of users: troll, not-a-troll. Mr Tichum, my sweetie, Have I ever told ya how much I love you? I love you to the Mnn!!! You are requesting something that you didn't notice; it is OPTIMIZATION for YOUR system. You should look 'linux optimization' or 'linux boot optimization'. Also, the removal of packages will only serve to have more disk space. I don't how much, but maybe we are talking about 300MB. That's nothing. There's stuff in RAM that could possibly be used but when it is not required it can be unload at anytime and it's automatic. And again, the impact on the processor will be near 0, 1, 3 %. That's nothing. If you have an old computer it should run Trisquel mini, not Trisquel. First post your system specs... On your networking issue I don't understand but it shouldn't be happening. If you want a customize installation, then go to minimum install or netinstall. I guess your words complaining on this were that you have to pay for each MB of downloaded data? If it is that, look in the wiki; there's the offline updates installation. It might help you. Also, I don't if it is possible but maybe there's a way to put the onced downloaded files for the netinstall on a usb and tell the net install to install from there?? On the free stuff. Trisquel free is FLOSS as FSF claims it is.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Unninstall all packages on a system except seleted ones, possible?
Also, sort | uniq
Re: [Trisquel-users] Unninstall all packages on a system except seleted ones, possible?
I don't see how could it work!! Imagine this: super-program-v1.0 Added to list1!! super-progra-v2.0 Added to list2!! super-program-v1.0 Added to list1!! program-super-v2.0 Added to list2!! (name of package changed thru versions) Those doesn't match so you have no package in the end. Or vice-versa, you only accept those not matching the trisquel list and remove them. That's sounds good but there might be references to those removed packages.
Re: [Trisquel-users] More ram for my thinkpad?
Tried with on a computer with DDR2 on purpose but I didn't get the DDR2 type, instead it says "unkown". It worked to know the working speed, though. sudo demidecode -t 17 Is shorter in info for this case.
Re: [Trisquel-users] More ram for my thinkpad?
Terrible spelling _._._._._._:::
Re: [Trisquel-users] More ram for my thinkpad?
No it doesn't. It depends on the transfer speed of your memory and tour processor but it is 1:30 to 2:30 hours

Tell me something, maese. Do you have a swap partition?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Root Partition Filled Up After Upgrade (6 > 7)
"Calm down. I'm not out to get you." I was calmed down and I still am. You had complained about my email address and then I changed it ironically. This is the third time I've got to explain this to you. "conspiracy theories" I didn't said such a thing. The trisqueltrollsquad is a name for a set of exclusive users. There's no such a thing as a conspiracy, organization, squad, team nor a nation named trisqueltrollsquad. That was made up by another member of the trisqueltrollsquad named MagicBanana and another one I forgot the name. I haven't said there's a conspiracy agains me not even a persecution against me (opposed as what you said in another post that I think I'm being persecuted). How does it comes that I talk about conspiracy theories and you are talking I am someone else? "the belief that your neighbours are more dangerous than the intelligence apparatus" I haven't made any reference to it. Now I can tell you that in my neighborhood were 4 Inn Tel ngy Agnts. One of them passed away and was actually retired, another one was removed his services to another "state" (it's not another state but it is like saying he was removed from California to Texas). The other two are operative. I should that there were another two agents on the University I went. From the 6 I have mentioned only the latter 2 were "chasing" me. They do not operate in the same neighborhood they live. That's how it works here I don't know why. For your information me and my family were persecuted by the police during years and a few of them lived in my neighborhood. Now there's only two that still live here. All that persecution stopped about 3 and a half years ago. "constant reference to the 'trisqueltrollsquad' made you indistinguishable from cooloutac." I'm pretty sure nobody called that name to this set of users. I used to call them 'TheEternalOffTopickers', if that makes you feel better. I0ve changed that named after the introducing of the useless spammerbegone-tool as I stopped working on the wiki for the same reason because I'm truly offended with that crap and the ability to censor comments the trisqueltrollsquad don't like. Sincerely yours, Your beloved sweetums
Re: [Trisquel-users] Root Partition Filled Up After Upgrade (6 > 7)
Secondary? If you'r asking why I put someonedidnotlikeitsothisishowitlooksnow as e-mail address It's because you (moxalt) complain about it. "as opposed to cooloutac?" I can't help u here as I don't have any clue on what cooloutac means. Cool out activation? Cool! Out of Alternate Current? I don't a correlation with my address.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Root Partition Filled Up After Upgrade (6 > 7)
Well, you can use ext2 on boot partition as it doesn't use journaling.

Don't be deceive by the trisqueltrollsquad MeNoMore; I've found your explanation useful as I stated after the joke I make. I urge u 2 read it again, please. Don't be deceived: "Just kidding dude, thanks for the cool stuff. It'll come in handle later on my future." (I clarify that there's no sarcasm on it)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't boot Vista after Trisquel install
Trisquel always installs passwords for grub but you'r not asked for it if your not trying to edit grub at booting. If you are always beeing asked for a password in dual(tripple, n)booting please tell me as I know my brother has Trisquel dual booting with W7 and also with a shared computer and we was never asked for such a password. On the other hand, to ask for a password on dual-booting is a security thing which I don't agree but I agree entirely with a password for editing the grub at booting. Tell the OS and specified your instruction set.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't boot Vista after Trisquel install
You should try to search on the forum first instead of duckduckgo. Also, duckduckgo is shit. Use ixquick or startpage.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't boot Vista after Trisquel install
You had an issue that others didn't have. The grub password is asked for editing purposes only when booting BUT IF YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO EDIT IT IT DOES NOT ASK FOR A PASSWORD. If you was asked for a password and you was not trying to edit the grub then it is a bug or just an issue only applying to you. Now, you and us should try to reproduce that bug to know it is a common issue or not. If it is, we could fill a bug form. Also, to put a password in BIOS it's not the same. If I took that drive aways from that machine and I put it on another one I'm beeing able to boot it and that's a security/privacy issue.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Root Partition Filled Up After Upgrade (6 > 7)
Okey okey... we got it. The Almighty LogRotate is our budha and you love it. pp Just kidding dude, thanks for the cool stuff. It'll come in handle later on my future.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't boot Vista after Trisquel install
An attacker that does not have an authorized user user and password to access Trisquel and did install another OS into the machine to access it can't boot the other OS to browse Trisquel.

Re: [Trisquel-users] How Can I help?
Another way of help would be to help me to do a text to fix the free of speech issues going on on the English Trisquel forum to asked our project leader to go back with the voting absurdity as it serves only to segregate users and groups of users and not allow free of speech and, of course, to the use of misusing it for the purpose that was given about a year ago: to combat spam by the community itself.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Spam ... Spam Everywhere!
The spammersbegone-tool (aka downvoting/upvoting) was served to Trisquel forum in order to its users use it to combat spam. Any other sort of use violates the trust on this offer. Remember those days of non spammersbegone-tool? Yes? Remember the free of speech? Remember when you make a thread 'Trisquel might have been compromised'? Remember reading those posts of yours? Well, exactly that's it, remember. Only the past can be remembered. The only way to combat spam is to report the issue on "Spammers be gone". Downvoting keeps the message there and it can (IS) be used to segregate the community into groups and not to allow free of speech. The more use of it, the yahoo answers the forum will look.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing on computer with SSD and HDD
I understand clearly, but the amount I've listed are quite more than enough (/boot), it is overdimensioned. And the others are what the disks are capable. There's no inconvinient on these 3 or 4 partitioning. Using more partitioning would be possibly a problem on dimensioning kind.

Re: [Trisquel-users] No space in "boot"
so what?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installing on computer with SSD and HDD
Manually do the partitioning SSD /boot Partition of 1 or 2 GB You can use ext2, ext3, ext4 /swap Partition of the amount of your RAM if you hibernate, if don't don't make it / (root) Partition The rest of the SSD You can use ext4 HDD /home Partition of the entire disk You can use ext4 or xfs
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel rescue usb stick
You don't need anything to make a rescue disc. You just use the installation disk. If you have it on a USB, you can maintaine it updated. I mean, this is not Windows. Unless you want a rescue disc to work repearing pcs you don't need a rescue disc.

Re: [Trisquel-users] No space in "boot"
Your partition is too small. I recommend you to make the boot partition around 500MB at least. I prefer to put 1GB. The idea of make a separate partition for boot is to make backups of it without caring of what file system it uses, So, if something goes wrong you can simply put it back. Keep doing it but with bigger sizes. Disks have enough space not to use it -_- dd
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix ntfs formatted disc in trisquel
chkdsk only detecs logical bad blocks. You have 7 bad blocks, meaning you have 7 physical bad blocks, and that info was taken from the SMART. It's about the disk not about the file system. What you do need to know is if those sectors are on which state: a) Non recoverable bad blocks b) Remapped/reallocated c) Pending of reallocation The health status health as passed doesn't mean you don't have bad blocks or another issue. It is just an overall thing that evaluates if the disc can continue going on or not.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How Can I help?
Hi, again. Here's a thread about advertizing Trisquel http://trisquel.info/en/forum/advertising-trisquel-floss and its results https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/marketing As you can see, the aim was for users to switch to Trisquel but there's nothing about to help Trisquel in developing it. Probably you can contact sum of the guys on that thread to team up something.
[Trisquel-users] Atrack developers to Trisquel
Here's a user http://trisquel.info/en/users/dennisd that wants to help. He says he would do some marketing stuff http://trisquel.info/en/forum/how-can-i-help I suggested him to do something to attract developers to Trisquel and making this separate thread to add ideas for that purpose. I'm linking this thread to that one plus this one http://trisquel.info/en/forum/advertising-trisquel-floss

Re: [Trisquel-users] How Can I help?
I would say MANDATORY: - SHELL - BASH - C - C++ - GIT - Understanding on how things works - Knowledge on conf files - Understand the Debian and Ubuntu way - Read the manuals of the corresponding software - Read the documentation of what you're working on. - Have a system to test it (preferable) - E-MAIL, for contacting purposes DESIRABLE: - SED - PYTHON - XML - Understand different kind of licencing Please, if you're not into these things and you never done a complicated script on bash, stay away of it. You can make things worst. Anyway, you could ask David, quidam, Legimet, etc. what they think the skills should be.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Root Partition Filled Up After Upgrade (6 > 7)
You're right, it may be that the system is filling the logs with errors of that kind ---
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems with Trisquel 7 install
I redistributed your questions on a different order: a) 4) Already answer by Mr. Mzee. b) 2) & 5) I can't really help you on this one but I propose you to open another thread for this specifically. I think a guy recently claimed that he pressed Ctrl+C and there he was asked for a pass and it looked like everything was working fine ... But, dunno. c) 1) Not sure about this but this was always my impression: the text mode and the netInstall are the same. The difference is that you're allowed to use the same disc to make different kinds of installation using the same disc. Meaning you need Internet to do both netinstall and textmode install. Anyway, this is an impression and, anyway#2 you DO need to upgrade lots of software after the installation. d) 3) It seems u was thru a long travel Well, for security reasons you don't use root. For administrative tasks you use a user that's on the sudoers list. This user is an administrator and belongs to different groups which gives it credentials. The user and password you're asked for is for this user. After installation, you use this user to create another user which must not be an administrative one and is for daily use. Meanwhile, the administrative user you use to create accounts, install software, etc. when needed. This keeps the system safer. I send you a little kiss on you right eyebrow!! muack :))
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems with Trisquel 7 install
LOL! Because of that I only read your post and Mzee one. TL;DR to everything except those.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix ntfs formatted disc in trisquel
I'm kinda in a hurry. So, the bad sectors are phisycal bad sectors --- that's bad --- I'll try tomorrow to give u an advice on how to solve that (if it is possible in your case). The error of mounting you can possibly fix it doing: # sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda3 (it must be unmounted- no, seriously, it must be unmounted)
Re: [Trisquel-users] How Can I help?
Mr DennisD, what Trisquel really needs are developers. That is programmers that can commit code to Trisquel to solve the issues (http://trisquel.info/en/project/issues). If can do some marketing slicks to attrack programmers to Trisquel project, most of us will be celebrating with lots of beers, till our eyes rolls back :-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does Anyone Know How to Map a Network Drive in Trisquel?

Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreOffice: from repos or their own website?
I use LibreOffice in the repos until I make a decision that there is a special feature in the newer version that I need to use. When that happens, I download the deb from the oficial website and I install it in all pcs of the network that work together even if they use another OS.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What WiFi speeds can I expect?
Thanks 4 the feedback :D
Re: [Trisquel-users] Help with new install
1) Yes 2) Yes if u didn't messed up the discs 3) Check your wireless card if it has one and if you'll use it. Also wireless mouse and keyboard if exists. 4)First, if you're going to Suspend-2-Disk, you need a swap of the same amount of your total RAM; if you won't S2D then don't make a swap partition. Second, use one HDD for the system and the other one for your /home to improve performance. Make a /boot partition (500MB), / partition (until the end or until the swap) and a /swap partition (if needed). Make a /home partition on the entire other drive. 5) (not numbered by you, concerning as a server) No. Its power consumption is too much an such expensive in the bill. Moreover, the heat it generates is the fucking hell at home. You'll end consuming air conditioning and paying a huge bill -.-
Re: [Trisquel-users] Help with new install
No. That commands retieves the configuration of the OS not the CPU. The command to know if it is 32 or 64 instruction set is: cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 64 If it is, then you'll get an output of 2 lines or more (always paired; 2, 4, 6) depending on cores and threads. You can put the output here.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Its time to nominate your free software hero(s)!
"though it's nothing that can't be solved by another post that would clear the misunderstanding." No one asked for that. not a single user asked for any argumentation (that I have). "calling people trolls and other names (ad-hominem indeed) and not backing it up is what you often did these days" Sorry, but I think I did that only in this thread. And yes , that's not good but I'm doing it on purpose simply to show that some "exclusive" users have the right to say anything including call someone a troll like moxalt did WHILE there is the majority of users who CANNOT DO SUCH. So, as you say, freedom of speech it's not easy so there are limitations to try to achieve that. In the English trisquel forum those limitation DOES NOT APPLY to users like lembas, onpon4, MagicBanana, moxalt, etc. Thus, it is censure made by themselves. Also, an ad-hominem attack is when you use a human being as an argument (on this case) and I didn't do that. In fact, as MagicBanana said I didn't sum up ANY ARGUMENT. So, there CANNOT be an ad-hominem attack. Simply making statements without an argument doesn't mean you don't have one and the downvotes didn't have any arguments. For example: onpon4 said he doesn't agree with Richard Stallman being a troll. The he sums up an argument of that. However, think what would happened if he wouldn't have summed up an argument... Read it: I DON'T AGREE WITH RICHARD STALLMAN BEEING A TROLL. Is that an ad-hominem attack? Because a positive adjetive/noun is used doesn't mean it is an attack. The same users replying to me because of calling Richard Stallman a troll didn't reply to moxalt's post in which he calls me a troll.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Its time to nominate your free software hero(s)!
Hi, daddy. Are you a troll?
